How are you guys doing it?
Root the phone. Download sqlite. Look for a file called settings storage. The correct one has a symbol looks like tools. Select the sub file. Go down and edit the line that says entitlement check. Change the value from 1 to disabled. Save and reboot. Enjoy making a wifi hotspot.

any sqlite app will work. its like the file manager apps that allow you to see the root files and the ones that normal file managers won't let you see. any one will work.

ok. i got it! rihgt before i paid for 1 i tried (SQLite Editor Pro Free 3.0) by HT SOFT. i clicked on SUPERUSER and noticed sqlite was blocked! so i deleted it out of the blocked setting log and then exited superuser. clicked back on sqlite and there was the screen asking which permission to grant, 1 minute 10 minutes or forever. i clicked forever. (questionable) then i went right to the file and was able to edit it.. thanks again. i appreciate the smart guys helping the, well, not so understanding guys! lol...

Rooted & Change entitlement no internet
Help please!? I have rooted my Atrix HD, changed the entitlement to disabled thru sqlite and I can now mobile hotspot which was not working before....but....I can connect devices to the phone but each one states "limited or no internet" yet the phone has full 4g internet (cuz I can surf with it while mobile hotspot is on) but NONE of the devices can surf. I have changed the ssid and the passwords and have tried the open protocol as well as the wpa-psk options and still no surf on any device....
Please help...been trying to mobile hotspot with this phone every since I upgraded from the Atrix 4G which I loved.
Thanks
Jim
Most ROMs have tethering built-in, so you could go that route.

I just wanted to put this out there for anyone having trouble finding apps on the Market with their VS GTAB.
I found Bluetooth File Transfer by "Medevial Software" that allowed me to transfer most of the apps that I have on my Nexus One over to my GTAB.
The app has a nifty little function called "Send Applications" on the menu under the "more" tab.
Both devices have to have bluetooth on for this function to activate.
This app helped me to get apps over to my GTAB when I couldn't get to them from the Market (on the GTAB).
Some Apps on my N1 were locked so I could'nt move those but for the most part I was able to get a lot of apps on my GTAB that I was not able to get via normal channels.
You can also use the free version of dropbox and get apps from all your PC/phone/Gtab.
It's a cool little app/program. and you can share folders as well. But it is only via wifi, which is fine as my phone is rooted so I always have wifi.

I used Dropbox all the time it's pretty cool but I tried to see if I could get my apps from my N1 over to my GTAB with Dropbox but it didn't give me the option to send APKs like BTFT does.
BTFT will package the selected apps into individual APKs so you can install them easily after they are transfered to your device. Which is a big help because before I found BTFT I was moving apps over using Titanium Backup which had many steps to get the apps over and installed successfully. With BTFT those steps are greatly reduced.
Try it out.
Nice find, thank you sir.

I believe the default location for transfered apps is the main directory of the internal sdcard.
/mnt/sdcard
Just scroll to the bottom if you are using a file explorer like estrongs.
BTFS worked great for me! send a few apps to my boss' droid2!
Here is an easy way to transfer and sideload. Using a WiFi connection.
Download apk's to your pc, use ES File explorer to browse for apk on PC (Lan), copy to your "downloads" folder on sd (Local). Browse w/ ES File explorer to downloads , choose apk and install.
Been working like a charm for me
Edit; Sorry to post this here, since this thread relates to "BFT", meant to post on previous thread.

Using VEGAn 5.1 Beta with Pershoots Latest 2.6.32.29
It does work Nexus to VEGA, I just tried it out again using CM7 RC1 on my
Nexus w/Wildmonks 2.6.35.10. Transferred nine test apk's over just now as I typed this thread reply.
I'm not using the 5.1.1 supplement.
I was using stock kernel (I guess) from vegan, updating now to see how it goes...
NO GO! updated to latest pershoot
Weird, anyhow, no biggy since I have plenty of other way to transfer my apk, just very strange!

Hmmm? Don't have an answer for you. I remember having that same issue but all I did was make sure both devices were discoverable and making sure the ftp share service and opp receiving service were both enabled in settings for both devices. I don't know for sure that would be your fix though..
BTF
I had the problem before of getting an error message, but I installed Blue Tooth File Transfer on both devices and now it works fine. I have it on my Gtab, EPIC, Moment, and EVO and all works fine.
Wow, very cool. Thanks, worked great from N1.
This is kinda the same as the Atrix, not sure who posted this but the steps for enableing tethering are pretty much the same.
1. Root
2. Install SQLite Editor
3. Under Settings Storage select Settings.db
4. Select secure
5. Mine is line 147 yours might be different (tether_entitlement_check_state) change value from 1 to 0 (Zero)
6. back out of SQLite till at home screen
tethering should now be working I have had some problems with restarting and having to go back in and change this setting back to 0, still trying to locate the problem but havent really had time to do so.
option 2
NO Root needed!!!
1. Download any cut from market
2. Open and select activity then select hidden menu this will give you all of the hidden menu options or you can just select connectivity test.
3. Open new shortcut and unselect entitlement.
tether will now be working but once again you will have to go back into the settings and reunselect this option if you reboot.
this way does not dissable the renableing of the entitlement still working on that.
Cool, thanks dude i didnt want to have to wait for a rom.
thanks man

Which one would be the best from the market? I did it for my Captivate oh do many months ago but I can't remember which one I used and on my Dell I never needed to do anything.

option 2 is a little easier, specially is you reboot often.
Sqlite only worked once for me. Once I rebooted my phone, it wouldn't work again no matter if I went and changed the field back to 0 and backed out or just pressed home key. It automatically changes back to a 1 when trying to hit usb tethering or hotspot wifi. Then go back and change it to a 0 and it switches it back to a 1 when I try and tether. KInda disapointed I spent the money on this app for this one purpose and now it's past the refund time.
I have been having more luck with option 2 using sqlite does have some problems this way it actually dissables the entitlement through a native app.
Option 2 let me turn on the Mobile AP but I have yet to test it.
I also discovered that if you try to turn on the Mobile AP using an app like Widgetsoid it reboots the phone! I'm hesitant to use widgetsoid for that function now.

Am I missing something? I just got my Thrill 2 days ago so I was not sure about tethering and all that because I have not had time to play with it. I just went to "Wireless and Network Settings", and its listed right there under "Bluetooth Settings".
It says; "Tethering & Portable Hotspot". Maybe I just got lucky but I checked the box with it hooked to my computer and I am tethered.
#1 Worked perfectly. Thank you very much!!
is entitlement under one of the other options? been looking still cant find it,

Hmm, I just now tried it, and I get the same message. Guess we'll need to wait for a third-party ROM like CM10 before this is an option...
Have any of you tried FoxFi? Its in the Play store, and it's free. There is also PDAnet as well.

I'm also having the same problem with wifi hotspot (tethering). Unlocked my phone (originally locked with AT&T) and anytime I click to enable Portable wifi hotspot I get "There is a temporary problem that prevents the enablement of the Mobile Hotspot function. Please retry later."
I've also tried installing FoxFi to see if I could tether that way - no luck. I get the same error message as above.
Any one have any solutions?
Solved! Alright, so I rooted the phone using the HTC First All In One found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2242639
Once the phone was rooted, I downloaded an app on Google Play called "WiFi Tether" (do not download FoxFi, it doesn't work). The "WiFi Tether" app works ONLY for rooted phones.
Now I can finally tether!

Stock roms seem to whitelist the apns that can use their tether, so either
1. Insert entitled {yourCarrierAPN} into /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/telephony.db with sqlite editor:
Old Instructions:
1. Use a rooted filemanager (e.g. ES File Explorer) to backup the Telephony Database (/data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/telephony.db) to a safe place (e.g. /sdcard/).
2. Download SQLite Installer for Root from the Market and open the app and install SQLite3
3. Open an adb shell
4. Type the following command in to open the telephony database:
su -c sqlite3 /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/telephony.db
5. This should have opened sqlite3. If it did then type the following command in to update the database:
INSERT INTO carriers (name, numeric, mcc, mnc, apn, authtype, type, insert_by, state, protocol, roaming_protocol, carrier_enabled, bearer) VALUES ("Entitlement","302720","302","720","ltemobile.apn ","-1","entitle","internal","hidden","IP","IP","1","0" );
6. To confirm that this has been applied you can type the following:
select * from carriers;
This should list all the carriers you have in your telephony.db and the one you just added should be at the bottom.
7. Type the following to quit sqlite3
.exit
8. Type the following to reboot your phone
reboot

You have to edit a database entry as well. Search the forums. Youll need sqlite editor from play store.
