Bravia Engine
Interesting. Want to try out this rom. Currently downloading. ETA 1 hr =D
Just one concern [Oh boy i hope this gets answered within that time =P]:

As far as I know, and please correct me if I'm wrong, the bravia engine is supposed to be used on LCD screens only right?
Umm... concern 1.2:
Even if it does work on Super AMOLED screens, and make everything look better, can it have any negative effects on the screen itself? [Like faster degradation of color reproduction, introduce black clipping and such.]

yes it was made to help lcd screen to keep up in contrast saturation and sharpness with the amoled screen
for the second question my guess is no
bravia engine is use in a lot of mod and rom on galaxy s3 and other phones and i haven't read anything about screen degradation
we have tested this rom for weeks and none of our people in our team (about 10 people) had any problem

@motzilotzi, I cannot understand your words! Why are you so suspicious and crude ?
This adventure begin in july. Tylwith was a famous cooker on Windows Mobile (and a famous WinMo developer on MoDaCo) , he ask us to rebuild the team (T.Corp) to prepare a new kind of ROM.
I was the most sceptical in this team (the last stock LIB is wonderfull), but I did make all test, and try every alpha product by Tylwith (some days we have to flash 2 time a day).
Tyl was trying too many things, some tweaks, some softs from other phones ... etc ... But everytime, you have the Wahoo effect, and just after, you have the incompatibility with its FC in some case of situation. (Gallery from the Note2 is a perfect exemple).
I can say that I did not believe that the crystal effect (Bravia engine) is a reallity. I was, first thinking about a placebo effect.
After too many tests that can not make any proof... I have too admit, it's true : just try it, there is no other way to know !
Tyl asked us :"what is for you, the things we can improve from stock ROM ?"
For us, it was the amount of RAM. It is annoyed that you cannot open 3 pages in internet browser, or one task and internet.... and so on.
Then the memory swap appear, and this is for me the most important improvement that I have never seen in a custom ROM.
With this swap you can open many applications, and they stay alive ! And, without any king of slowdown. Multitasking enter in a new dimention.
This ROM has no cosmetic improvement, it is, maybe not, more faster than original (no ROM are), but, MDS is clear view, smooth using and the memory swap is a blessing !
Try it, I promise you will not remain indifferent. This is; the Magic Dream Symphony !

No you don't need to do anything to make this memory swap working.
(don't scare people, there is no kind of relation with SWAT ! we are pacifics )
Tks for this rom

This will guide you and teach you too ONLY if you read well rather than just pressing download links!
Now that we had TONS of kernels out there, It doesn't means NEWER = BETTER.
Here you will find useful links to guide on choosing which kernels fits your needs.
This is pointing out and will be guide for those people who dont know what is a KERNEL?
This thread is for those who doesn't know wtf does a kernel is, for those gamers for those on stock roms for those who wants performance for those wants promising benchmark scores etc..
KERNEL? what is it?
In computing, the kernel (from German Kern, nucleus, core) is the main component of most computer operating systems; it is a bridge between applications and the actual data processing done at the hardware level. The kernel's responsibilities include managing the system's resources (the communication between hardware and software components). Usually as a basic component of an operating system, a kernel can provide the lowest-level abstraction layer for the resources (especially processors and I/O devices) that application software must control to perform its function. It typically makes these facilities available to application processes through inter-process communication mechanisms and system calls.

Now that you know what a kernel does, its time to know what VSYNC (Vertical Synchronization) is?
Vertical Synchronization, also called Vertical Sync, or simply VSync for short, was primarily required because of the physical limitations of CRT monitors as discussed in the Refresh Rate section. A CRT monitor has to constantly light up the phosphors on the screen many times per second to maintain an image, and can only do this a certain number of times per second based on how fast the electron gun in the monitor can move. Each time it has to redraw the entire screen again, it moves the electron gun inside the monitor from the bottom of the screen to point to the top left of the screen, ready to 'repaint' all the lines on the screen from top left to bottom right, and back again for the next refresh. The period during which the electron gun moves to the top of the screen for a new refresh is called the Vertical Blanking Interval (VBI).
Enabling VSync tells your graphics card to synchronize its actions with your monitor. That means the graphics card is only allowed to swap its frame buffer and send a new frame to the monitor when the monitor says it is ready to repaint a new screen - i.e. during the VBI. Your graphics card and monitor do not have to be in sync; they can still operate properly when VSync is disabled, however when VSync is disabled, you can experience a phenomenon called Tearing in periods when your graphics card and monitor go out of sync, precisely because the graphics card and monitor are acting without regard for each other's limitations.

Now base on my experience, this are the .35 kernels (never had tried .32 so I cant point out which one is good for me) I personally found out useful and those gave me good experience on stock and custom roms.
NOTE: it doesn't means all of this are BUG free!
For stock rom 2.3 | .35 kernel
Vsync off
The smoothest one i found for stock lg rom|voff gives smoother ui transitions and scrolling
Rome-v1.3.3-cfs-vsync-off by zack here
Vsync on
Best one i tried for von on stock rom
paolo's OC kernel V3 here
you'll find the thread here but most of the links are dead
For custom roms, all cm7 based rom (miui, lewa.etc) and themed roms |.35
Vsync on
best ones i tried that gave me performance and really good experience even on games!
Ta-gb-kernel-v1.1 by thachtunganh: here
Roq kernel-IX by Roqu3: here
Roq kernels (for those who doesnt even give effort to search but rather spam and ask anywhere) here! Newer doesn't mean better
Vsync off
for benchmark HOGS and for games who need further more frames for HQ games
PP kernel v1.7 ta-gb 1.2 based, originaly by thachtunganh moded by trettet here (the best for games so far)
Candied kernels by DJnoXD here (voff with variety of touch fixes also good for heavy games but lesser benchmark scores compared from PP kernel v1.7)
Nice tutorial there

GTR.
A good rom like CM and a good kernel as in my suggestions will give you good game experience, as of now I'am on gsnap rom simply because its CM but I like the way its very lightweight.
i confused on my question i meant which kernel is the best for gaming? im curnttly using GTR-V7.8 kernel roq+paolo touch fix

PP kernel 1.7 will give you performance but i dont suggest it on stock cm, may be on GTR but on stock it would only make scrolling sluggish because of screen tearing.

so what do you reccomend on GTR ( WHICH KERNEL?)
> agreed with roq IX and ta-gb 1.1:good:
I have a question I'm on aokp dynamite's ics and the performance is awesome. but some games (not necessary heavy weight) don't start. in somewhere I read that changing the kernel would help. so is anybody here in ics using custom kernels?

changelog
Beta2 [6/27/2012]
--------------------------
added smartassv2 and lulzactive govs
--------------------------
Beta3 [7/18/2012]
--------------------------
removed lulzactive and smartass2 for now, readding next update
tweaked govs to ramp up more aggressively but also ramp down agressive when not in use
removed 100mhz steps, now steps as 100,200,400,600,800,1000,1100,1200,etc.
stabalized gpu clock @ or around 200mhz to prevent issues with phones not being able to do higher gpu clock
added 1.4ghz freq (use at own risk and may not work for all)
--------------------------
Few things to know
1.Will glitch at power on due to kernel size and some tweaks i made, its no big deal
2.for the first 10min after boot the clocks tweak out and wont go under 1000mhz, so let it sit and it'll settle down
3.With no tweaks just stock KB5 I get great performance, so idk how well it does witha tweaked rom
Great Froyo Support!
A 2.2 Kernel, Great work!
Thanks for your contributions!
Say ECOTOX, you work has been added to the Vibrant Kernel Bible thread, please stop by to post updates and I will update the thread, Cheers!

Good =) was built on an already well tested kernel (my previous one) mostly I had to tweak clocks and voltages to maximize stability. Now I just gotta work on some method for voodoo color on 2.2, that's my immediate task now.

So far no issues, thanks a lot for the kernel. Very smooth indeed..
Eco that would be badass if you could get adjustable Voodoo Color to work on a 2.2 kernel because it has never been done. I can't wait until you build a current Touchwiz GB based kernel with working GPS and adjustable Voodoo Color since there is no supported Vibrant kernel at this time, and Talon was the last to do it but never had GPS and Voodoo Color working at the same time. An updated CM 7.2 VC kernel would also be badass. I remember running your older kernels and they were quick and stable.

Just what I want. I have been using your previous kernel along with Toxic Crazy 8 ROM since quite some time.
But, I would love to see some other features borrowed from Semaphore like:
Touchscreen sensitivity changes provided by Chainfire and automatic brightness handling(as the default one is not very intelligent).
I have tried, 2.3.x & 4.x kernel(&rom) , but all in vain, some or other thing stops me from making it my daily driver. I will try this out along with D9RC3 Fishman Mod1 Rom, today.
Lastly, what do you recommend for GPU & CPU tweaking,as I couldn't get 3 games working on DMZ kernel, but there could be other issues, sending you pm for the same.
Any chance to include voodoo colour with adjustable colors?

Story:
Considered the best ROM of all time for the Atrix for a large number of users, the ROM TopSmarts finally is in its final version. During the previous versions we tested several supposed improvements and changes. This latest version includes only those that actually have significant effects. Those that did not make any effect, or that the benefit did not explain the cost, have been removed from this version. An example is the Bravia Hack, which increased battery consumption and lacked significant return. This version was tested for days and always had stability. Hope you enjoy it!
User top comments:

About the kernel... it is the CM7 stock, based on Faux's version 2.6.32.59. I want to see how new Faux's kernel works before bring it to the Rom . There are some other tweaks and mod that i'm testing now. Next versions will be better
I don't use quadrant for benchmark tests, i use Antutu. Got 5500+ every five times i tried.
Wow very nice looking rom.
I'll test it! Can i have a features list? That can be very handy for everyone.
And yes i also see the atrix comeing back to life. (the ics update can be a blood refresh)

Battery Life: I swear, never used a Rom with better battery life before.
Im coming from neutrino and this rom feels snappier, better quadrant score and I can notice improvement in battery life too. Will report on any bugs I find.
Thank you for this great rom italosnt :good:

Italo you did it again. Thanks. Best speed and battery life ever.
I am thoroughly impressed. My battery is at 87% with an hour screen on time from playing AndRO. I don't think any ROM could compare to the battery life on here.

Did you change from ART to Dalvik? That *might* help... ART is still somewhat unstable, and lags and such depend alot on the kernel you're using. 2.6 is stable but a bit sluggish, 3.1 is faster but hás camera bugs and is battery hungry.

Some version ago, ART was the default, but there were problems.
I remember that tonyp wrote that ART could give problems.
In last version the default is Dalvik, so it is non necessary to modify.

Slimkat options
Hiya,
I was wondering if anyone had any memory options for the current Slimkat, with built in 3.1 kernel (basically out of box settings) that are suitable to keep it running somewhat smooth after a week or so.
The only thing i've been able to do is dumping of the cache, and using the Fstrim command to keep the lag at bay, but this still causes memory drops of some apps, ... like Phone calls being dropped, and keyboard crashing even when I have as much as 40mb of free memory.
I do keep Skype open in the background I need it to keep in contact with someone special. so i've greenified everything else that can be hibernated. except for Viper, and other CPU and kernel managers. ( and ofcourse Skype for above reason)
the phone app crashes alot after one week of use, i don't use other social apps like facebook or whatapp. I only use Skype, and Now browser. with normal Phone and Messaging app.
I may play music sometimes. but when finished I kill the app. allowing everything else to be alright.
anyway. if there is a preferred CPU / Gov / sched / swap / zram combination that is working well for people, I would appreciate some feedback on what works for them, with minimal cache dumping, and memory leaking.
Also. please let me know via PM, if I should post this elsewhere. I'll edit the post and correctly post in the correct thread, without cluttering up the thread.
Thank you.
Necro.
I'm hoping for this info too! Just installed Slimkat and despite it being quick for the first 30 minutes after clean install it gets slower and slower and now even pressing power on can take up to 30 seconds just to get to the lock screen. Yes, it's insane.

Yes you should buy RamExpander and expand your RAM to 1 GB.
And put CPU to 1.2 GHz.
At that settings phone is working great for weeks/months. (tested)

I was actually hoping for a app that would help me over clock my CPU, and allow Quad core access, . with Ram increase to 3gb, and turn my Tegra 2 into a tegra 5,
and just have the phone do .. .ya know, .... phone stuff.
but Ramexpander only helps the ram. so its not worth it for me.

Update July 31, 2018
This thread is marked as discontinued. This means that It won't be updated so don't bother asking and I will not publish any more posts here or contribute to the general discussion. However, I might add files from time to time if necessary.
How it works
The default thermal cooling mechanism on Sony flagships isn't very efficient. This MOD basically starts throttling the frequencies gradually at certain optimal temperatures allowing the device to cool-down faster while maintaning a good performance.
Main advantages
- Improved overall performance
- Less heat & faster cool down
- Maintain a consistent performance for extended periods of time
- Prolonged camera usage, video recording
- Suitable for daily usage & gaming
Compatibility
Code:
- Xperia Z3+ Z4 Z5 (All variants)

Performance Benchmarks (Attached below)
OUTDATED
I know It's a phone not a PC but it's an accurate way to see how well we can handle stress
The following tests are done at room temperature on Xperia Z5 E6653 using the following set-up :
- RR ROM
- Kernel by @zacharias.maladroit NovaCore_I.1_n_1_10_C_1_6_3
Two consecutive tests each time are done with no delay between for : Stock thermal engine, FSC, FSC+
More tests for stock ROM/KERNEL can be found HERE
Instructions
- Flash the zip
- Reboot and enjoy
Extras
- Use a more reliable kernel, for LOS,Carbon,RR,crDroid I recommend latest by @zacharias.maladroit
I highly recommend my LKT™ Mod .. very smooth and battery friendly on Z5

One question, why did u remove GPU control from emmc therm 0? This doesn't seem a very good idea to me, because from my testing it seems the GPU is generating the most heat.
I have made a thermal mod too, a while ago. Look it up, it's somewhere on XDA (too lazy to search, lol)
I'll keep an eye on this interesting project.
Regards.

Thanks for passing by , I did not remove GPU control give [emmc_therm__2.DEFAULT] a look.
I kept values as close to stock .. Actually decreased frequencies from 630 to 510 in temp range 48900 - 53200
I kept them as close to stock because main focus is the cpu for current version
I'll see what I can do further with GPU tweaking in next versions
Just re-uploaded FSC+ and the stock restoration zip (fixed a small issue with the zip)

Great job there, stock z5 is terrible in performance terms really so mods are apreciated. Thanks!!!
Gpu is responsible for overheting in my opinion allso, it surges in terms of heat when under load and then all throttles down cause of it.
I still managed to get somewhat similar results with settings that worked for me till now (disabled qualcom core control) modified thermal.config (not my work).
Staring temperature prior to test:
52 cpu. 56 gpu. 41,7 batt
Geek Bench 411
first run
1442 single core
3407 multi core
Second run
1361 single core
3270 multicore
3D MARK (very demanding test)
Slingshot extreme test start from cold device scored 1883
Slingshot extreme test imediate second run scored 1770
End temperature after tests:
59 cpu. 64 gpu. 46,2 batt
I use .5.11 rooted stock
---------- Post added at 01:00 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:56 AM ----------
Could be possible to contain gpu very low somehow so it does not produce excessive heat, so cpu can be maintained at higher frequ?
I use kernel aduitor but it seems i cannot control gpu temp. Like i would really like it to.

Please remember that this MOD IS NOT INTENDED FOR HARDCORE GAMING/CRUSHING PERFORMANCE LIMITS (even though can handle it) but rather to give more balance and satisfy everyone, here's is a quick 3D Mark test for both stock and FSC 1.1 (2 runs each)
Heat handling obviously improved since score dropped by less than- 100 point compared to -400 on default engine and all that time temperature always stayed below 42 unlike stock .. I'm not really into pushing the GPU since it's not that powerful and overheat fast but I'll see what I can do more for further optimization if needed .
Awesome mods, Seems very potential. I'm testing and will share my experience soon.
Thanks a bunch, mr. @korom42

Take a look and feel free to use the GPU values as a comparison.
Im getting very good results with these values.

What to difference between [MOD] FSC Thermal Engine 1.1.zip with [MOD] FSC+Thermal Engine 1.1.zip file?
I'm keen to try this on my Moto X force/ space heater.
What exactly does this change? As it's been designed for the Sony I just want to know it's not likely to hard brick the device (soft brick is fine, I can reflash if it all goes wrong).
Thanks for developing this anyway

You can give it a try, just backup thermal-engine.conf file found in \system\etc.
FSC+ is recommended, to make sure that it's working open kernel auditor and look for unused frequencies history at the bottom for big you have find 1824 and 1958 (at least) and 1555Mhz (at least) for small cores, if not restore your original thermal-engine.conf because it's not working and share it here if you interested I may tweak a version for your device when I'm free .
Do I need to turn on these settings on EX kernel manager to take advantage of your mod?
