Regression: High Pitch Noise on .247 - Motorola Droid Bionic

Remember back when the Bionic was new and a high pitched noise was heard through wired headphones/ear buds?
Search google: "droid-bionic-owners-complaining-about-mysterious-high-pitched-sound"
It was eventually patched (*fixed*).
It seems it is back with .232 and .247. I have been running 232 for a couple months and just installed 247. Both versions have reintroduced the high-pitched whine over my headphones.
Using in-line attenuation reduces the whine.

I'm patiently waiting on .232 with the noise present. I was hoping that it would be fixed for OTA

I was hopeful too. Unfortunately, all signs point to 247 being the eventual OTA (unless something bad happens in the soak test). Maybe this noise will be the *bad* thing?
Regardless, 247 does feel like a new phone, and even from 232. 232 was a bit unstable for me (switching from dock mode and back). I've yet to encounter the same stability issues.

Go to system settings, sound, wired devices, uncheck enable audio effects.
Not perfect but definitely better.

.246 OTA has noise too
I didn't expect any different. But, yes, the official .246 OTA for the BIONIC has the high-pitched noise.

The whine is absolutely back, and it's about the same as it was a year ago. Motorola's quick response was one of the major reason I kept the phone. I'm a bit of an audiophile, and say what you will about Bluetooth, but it doesn't come anywhere close to studio monitor quality. I may have to upgrade to a new phone early.

I too have the OTA of ICS and am having the headphone buzz. I have worked with Verizon on multiple times to no avail. They transferred me to Motorola support and the tech folks I spoke to seemed like they knew nothing of the issue and I currently have an open incident with them.
In working with Verizon, they issued me a warranty swap. The replacement phone came with the latest Gingerbread load and did not exhibit the sound issue. Once I updated to the OTA ICS load, the issue showed it's ugly face. In multiple calls to Verizon, they are unwilling to work with me. They offered for me to:
A) Buy a new phone at the full retail price
B) Buy a factory refurbished phone at the full refurbished price
C) Buy a used phone off of the internet
D) Just wait for Motorola to issue a software update
I asked if they would be willing to allow me to upgrade early and I got a resounding NO. I asked if they could give me any kind of discount on a new or refurbished phone and I got a resounding NO. I asked if they would waive my early termination fee and I got a resounding NO. I asked what they WERE willing to do and they said, buy a new or refurbished device or just wait for the update.
I just wish either Verizon or Motorola would man up and just cut their loses and help the consumer out.

According to Motorola, they are not aware that this is an issue. If you are experiencing it, please call Verizon Wireless tech support and ask them to open a case with Motorola.

I called vzw yesterday to report my HP buzz and as soon as I mentioned it they asked if I wanted a new bionic to which I said yes it should be here by Wednesday so we'll see if it too has the buzz if it does I will be calling holly @ vzw support back and requesting a non moto device and its bs that moto I unaware of it I tweeted with motorolamobility and they said their dev team is aware and working on a fix but that was Oct.22 and we still don't have any sign of a fix

I hope you have better luck than I did with the factory refurbished device. I went round and round with probably 4 or 5 Verizon associates about some sort of deal to where they could help me out a bit with a new device but no joy. They wouldn't even let me speak with a supervisor.
I am not looking to get a free phone, I just want to be allowed to upgrade early or have my early termination few waived. I really don't think that is an unreasonable request...

Man I hate to hear that cuz they where super nice to me and did everything I ask but I've been a vzw customer since before they where called vzw

I've had VERY mixed + & - experiences with VZW over the last 10 years. The network is the only reason why i stay with them. I also have this issue and its annoying now that I use it at the gym. Hopefully it will be taken care of with JB.

Well here's an update on my quest to resolve my HP whine with vzw I received yesterday a warranty replacement refer dished bionic and was not surprised when I plugged in my HP the whine was there so I called vzw again now they are sending me a third replacement if this is bad the guy said he could get me a diff device. On another note the referb bionic they sent sucks so even if it didn't have the whine I would send it back if I put it in my pocket when I take it back out it will be shutdown and I'll have to start it it also the slightest bump will make it reboot and 4g is barely better than when I had GB. So much to my dismay I'm really starting to not like moto because of all the bs I've put up with from the bionic. Oh and I also talked to a moto rep and they all but called me a liar saying that this headphone issue is isolated to me alone even though I have read numerous threads about it. That really pissed me off so if I can after this return I'm leaving moto

Getting better headphones fixed my problem. But I mean way better headphones. I switched from cheap $3 earbuds from Amazon to $100 Bose earbuds. They were a gift and they are awesome. No whine at all.Maybe there are cheaper solutions though. The high pitched whine is a huge bummer. There's always Bluetooth earbuds. Costco had Motorola stereo Bluetooth earbuds on sale for $40 (regularly $60) a month ago. I'm sure you can find a deal like that somewhere.

Droid Bionic cancelled?

I don’t know if it’s true but the guy at the Verizon store told me he heard the Bionic was being canceled and they were coming out with a better version with a 12MP cam, 1 GIG Ram, etc and it would be out in September now.
Don’t know if it’s true or old news.
That is the current rumor. The Bionic is being replaced with the Targa. No official confirmation from Moto or Verizon yet.
If and when confirmed I will need to buy an interim device from Craigslist to hold me over until the release of the new batch of dual core 4G phones are released.

I wish there were more information about time lines. I am eligible for upgrade now. Nothing looks good at this point if this gets canceled. The Charge is single core ($300, WTF!), the Revolution rumors are going back and forth (dual/single core), the X2 doesn't have 4G, the Thunderdolt has a tiny battery and is a single core device... Targa in September? My DInc won't last that long. I might just upgrade to the DX on a one year contract. (Yes, I know the one year contract is unavailable to the masses...)
I called verizon and I'm not sure which rep you talked to, but they not only told me the rumor wasn't true, but they said reps shouldn't ever give a rumor like that unless it's confirmed. Then this popped up... http://www.eweek.com/c/a/Mobile-and-Wireless/Motorola-Droid-Bionic-Delayed-as-iPhone-5-Looms-229162/
It's delayed no canned.
this is great news, i wasn't looking forward to eating the 600 bionic cases i received 2 weeks ago! well great news would be a may release date, but this is at least good news.

Unfortunately you may not be out of the woods yet. In addition to "enhancements" the rumor mill also suggests an updated form factor.

this is true.
I bought a DInc from Craigslist. I have rooted and loaded CM7.0.2.1. It's running smooth with all day battery life on stock battery with moderate use, about 12 hours with 20% of battery left. This includes about 4 hours of Pandora use on 3G.
I can wait for the new Bionic now.

The Bionic has been removed from the Motorola web site
http://www.motorola.com/Consumers/US-EN/Home
Motorola has removed the Droid Bionic from their web site. Searching on the site will only lead you to the Mobile Phone Support site.
Hope to see the new Droid Bionic site up in the near future.
I was at the Verizon store today, and inquired about the Bionic. The guy there said it was being postponed because they're removing the dual core processor & going with single core, due to massive overheating that they couldn't find a workaround for.

Though there was no specific information given about the changes being made other than the form factor, I highly doubt they'd do that. It's been the phone every is zeroed in on because of the Tegra 2 along side 4G.
Motorola's DROID BIONIC LTE smartphone, first announced at this year's International Consumer Electronics Show, will launch this summer with Verizon Wireless. Based on compelling feedback since the show, we are incorporating several enhancements to make this an even better consumer experience. This includes expanded features, functionality and an improved form factor.

I highly their idea of an enhancement is a downgrade. The "Improved form factor" could mean they're using a different phone entirey(same features, obviously and hopefully more or "enhancements" wouldn't be the right word) because of issues they were having, as some have thought to have been heat issues before. There have been others saying that it resembled the HTC Thunderbolt too closely, which is true in a lot of ways, but nobody but the people working on the phone really know anything for sure. All we can do is speculate.
Motorola isn't going to drop to a single core processor. It'd be a bad move on their part to release a phone with such similar specs to, both, the Thunderbolt and Charge, which are both already out there. We all wanted the Bionic because it would blow the other Verizon phones out of the water in comparison.
On a personal note... they need to hurry up and get the Bionic out there so I can upgrade.. lol My Droid 1 is still nice and all, but my physical keyboard is done for... letters separated and glue not holding.. letters overlapping, making it hard to type without constantly pushing them back... lol I refuse to settle for less than upgrading to a phone of the Bionic's specs or better. A phone that is overkill now is a phone that'll still be decent when I upgrade again, is the way I look at it.
I ramble... sorry.. lol
This is true. It has been scraped for a better Moto Device. This device is to be released during the summer. So far they do not have alot of specs on it. I know a VZW employee and he could not give me a name of the Moto 4G device that is coming out but its this summer.
Well thats pretty dissapointing i was very much looking forward to atleast getting my hands on one, hopefully Motorola releases something better this summer
Wow I almost waited for the Bionic when I bought my Atrix because I was tired of AT&T. Then they kept pushing the bionic out and I finally caved and got the Atrix. By September I will be 1/3 of the way through my contract and maybe when this contract is up Verizon will have one I want. Sorry to hear it may be canceled.
one thing every one here seems to need to learn... PEOPLE AT THE VZW STORE ARE ****ING SALESMEN!
meaning, they will tell you whever lies they think you want to hear to try to get you to buy a new phone THAT DAY.
just saying they are always lieing to you to get sales... i see it happen all day at work. dont be a sucker. you're getter off geting info from sites liek this than sales associates.
There will still be a Droid Bionic, it just won't be quite what it was originally supposed to be. It will need a different case than what was originally going to need, so if you already bought cases, you will be out of luck. The problem is that other companies (Samsung) have announced better phones, with better screen since Motorola announced the Bionic. The Dual 1.2ghz is better than what Motorola had announced so they have to go back and fix that. After the long wait, they don't want to come out just to be second best.
What is this new form factor that is alluded to? I hope that it is shaped like the Atrix honestly.

Got update, so long bionic...

I am on my 3rd phone with poor GPS aquisition, browser freezes, email being pushed when it is not supposed to and a really odd thing where hitting the "on" button causes my phone to jump back and forth between music and dialing my last call or received number--only when my headphones are plugged in. It does not look like the update has targeted any of those. They offered a razr as a swap out but am going to the darkside. Ipone on the way and I will be "clouding" with my new macbook.
Too bad really since the bionic concept seemed to be outstanding for me.
On another note VZ just moved my update up to get the iphone so I have to pay the regular upgrade price. No credit give for the $200 I already spent on the bionic. I asked them what do I do with a phone that will not work properly...she actually told me to sell it on ebay or craigslist.. A customer service rep actually telling me to sell one of their faulty products to some other poor sap.
Can't tell if your bragging or complaining.
I don't want to jump the gun, but I don't think you'll be missed by many? Judging from your rep count, I don't think you're a developer or anything.
But anyway, buh bye!
good luck on a i****
I had that problem with my t bolt. They kept telling me they'll give me an early upgrade, but what about the $250 I already spent? Does that not mean I get a working phone for spending $250 and signing a new 2 year contract? Nope, you can keep getting crappy phones or pay more. Finally after 6 thunderbolts I got upgraded to a bionic.

Wow very well put!
I was plagued by Bionic data problems. 901 Was the first rom that actually addressed it for me.
But now 902 Has fixed data100 percent! So love affair with my BIONIC is back.
He can take his $lowa$$ iphone and shove it up his brown i.
Does everyone have to tell us bye when they get a new phone? I've never been part of a.community that people feel the need to tell everyone bye when they get a new phone.
On a side note, I wouldn't care if Verizon offered me an early upgrade because I want what I already paid for to work, not spend more to get something that works. I would just keep returning the phone until they offered me a different phone, not an early upgrade that I have to spend more money on. After so many replacements, I would tell them I want something different because I have no confidence that they can send me one that works, and if they don't, I will buy out the contract and switch to sprint. Last thing they want is for you to buy out the contract and switch to the competition. You have to go through a few replacements first though for it to work. Verizon replaced my Droid Eris with a Droid 2 that way (I had.to buy the battery, back cover, and charger though because they don't send those out with replacement phones)

Even if it had an unlocked bootloader, we're not guaranteed to have more roms. There are phones out there with unlocked bootloaders and still get very little development. I think that Verizon releasing better phones right afterwards has a lot to do with us not getting more.development, along with the bootloader being locked.
The LG revolution has been out since last may and has an unlocked bootloader, and we have just as many if not more roms than they do. If you want a solid development community, you have to go with an HTC phone or a nexus.

Goodbye Bionic Hello Nexus

Well it's a story known all to well. I had the bionic. Every time I would call Verizon they would tell me to wait for the new update that was around the corner or they would just replace the phone with another Bionic. The new. 905 update just made the phone unusable. I finally broke down and called verizion yet again not expecting any real help. I was very kind and basically killed em with kindness. After explaining that I have had issues since day one and that I required a working smartphone for work and there was a history of me calling all the time, they finally moved me to what they called level 2 support. Had to explain the whole process from day one to now again. The man was very kind, as was I and offered me a thunderbolt. I asked him if there was any way to change out to a different dual core 4g phone cause the thunderbolt was a step backwards. He then said he could give me a razr. OK I guess but I then asked if he could do any dual core 4g that wasn't a Motorola. He said no at first cause phone companies are cracking down on the exchanging phone issue. As I started to say OK send me the razr, he asked if I would hold for about 10min. I said sure. When he came back he said I can tell you are not happy with Motorola at all and in general not happy with the way things have been handled. He said he asked his boss if something could be done and got approved the Galaxy Nexus for me. Now I am waiting on it to arrive. (If you are willing to take a total of an hour and a half and be extra kind and not demand stuff they will work with you. Key is to keep talking till they offer a phone and never say no if they offer a phone you don't want. Just ask if its possible for something else in an indirect way) So I can't wait to start being part of the nexus forum and am very excited to be getting a phone with an unlocked bootloader again. My Incredible was just that. Incredible. I am hoping the nexus will be the same.

Congratulations, but the "big mistake" is unnecessary and kind of insulting. I've never had any problems with mine unless I was on one of the GB-based ICS ROMs.
Sorry if offended. I have had nothing but trouble from this phone. It has been so unreliable its not funny. Even with the ics leaks I still had issues. It would had been a great experience if it was reliable. I am not the type that likes to offend so I will remove that part. Apologies my friend.
I was just being a baby. Maybe it's just me being jealous. Seriously Congrats on the S3. My brother just got one (I made him pre order to not screw up our family's unlimited plans) and I want to make love to it.
I thought the op got a galaxy nexus not a s3
Too bad you been having problems with your bionic, I haven't have any problems with mines even on the ICS leaks from 2231-235
Hope you enjoy the gnex more than I do bc for me the bionic have a better reception/data connection than the gnex I had
It is a nexus that is on its way indeed. Thanks and I am not too worried about reception as I am stability. The bionic just would not stay connected to data for nothing except on .902 and even with that I had to battery pull about every 2-3 days cause of no data. Even with the ics leaks. 3 bionics and all have had the same problem. It would have been a great phone just if data was a solid connection and an unlocked bootloader. Maybe for those still with the bionic maybe you will get an unlock tool one day. Saw a tweet from Motorola about a week ago saying they were working on one but of course its been said for a year they were going to unlock the bootloaders.
Nexus, my bad. Too many Galaxy devices going on right now! the Galaxy Nexus is a piece of sheer beauty though. Someone came with with the GSM variant on 4.1.1 for me to root, and I was amazed at just how smooth JB is.
I would not ditch a Bionic for a Nexus now.
I ditched the bionic for any dual core 4g phone they would give me. Just so happened to be a nexus.
I just got off my 3rd phone call with VZW.
1st call- Told them some of what I had tried to do to fix the data dropping. (All of which I read about here or elsewhere on the interwebz) Removed battery, adjusted nighttime settings.
Result- New Sim Card, no data drops for 2 days, then they came back with a vengence
2nd call- They asked me to factory reset my phone. I'm a little bit pissed at this point but I tried it. They are the expert in this conversation and I figured refusal to waste my time would result in me wasting more time before anything was actually resolved. Also I didn't want to end up yelling at some poor soul in a call center.
Result- Data drop within 3 hours of resetting the phone.
(less than 10 minutes ago) 3rd call- Samsung Galaxy Nexus is being shipped to me. I was leaning towards the razr but they told me that the razr was having some data problems as well. I'm really sick of this and just want a working 4g smartphone. 4g is the greatest thing before or after sliced bread, I can watch youtube with no buffering at any time. I loved the bionic so very much visible screen in direct sunlight ftw, good build qualify, fits well in my hand, ect. I didn't have to hint or argue with them to get the nexus, I asked what phones were available to me and they said the Nexus and the Razr. I hinted about the S3 and they shot that down without missing a beat, probably knew I was going to ask before I started. Also I'm getting the extended battery because they are out of the regular batteries.
Result- Oh please merciful spaghetti monster let phone work out.
If you're having data trouble call them and follow the steps. I'll see you in the nexus forum, I'll be the one lurking.
Never
Never ever have I had problem with my Bionic. I would never of traded, no way Jose. With ICS its the best thing out. Strong casing, not that plastic thin stuff. Love my Bionic but if you happy and it is what it is. Good luck with the Nexus. Reading all posts here seems like people feel the same way. In the past I never waited that long for an exchange lol.

Won't see me there. Never had data drops and since everyone is in 4g there is no 3g traffic so 3g is very smooth. Also the fact that they gave u the fat battery means they will send u the back also which when connected, it will be heavier. But if you're happy thats what counts/

The reason they're running out of Bionis is because people are re-buying them. G o to Swappa and see that price has not dropped and that the demad is high. The Bionic is back.

For those being sent a Nexus, what about your Bionic? Did they want it mailed back to them? Did they say keep it?
vzw
my bionic's headphone jack started going bad about 5 months in, called vzw and they sent me a new phone for free being it was under warranty. I love the bionic, if it's broke, just fix it.
To those who haven't had any trouble with the bionic, I envy you greatly. I think I've given the phone more than a fair shake at this point and it gave me a white 4g signal of doom in return.

They want it back. I'd like to keep it, perhaps one day, when cars fly, moto will fix it and I'd have a valuable backup, or maybe the nexus would be the back up. Or I could use it like a tiny tablet for....something.
The Bionic could have been a great phone if it was not for the LOCKED BOOT LOADER, and the monsterious level of bloatware(I blame Verizon/Motorola, and not android for this issue). My experience with pure google phones has been outstanding(I own a Nexus S 4g), heck most of the modder's/developers on XDA are in essence trying to actually enjoy the greatness of simply pure google. Why else would I install a custom ROM, because most of the custom rom's are faster and bloatware free. I have what cellphone carriers have done to great phones, quite simply they turn them to ****.
My Verizon contract just ran out and I traded my Bionic for an unlocked GSM Galaxy Nexus. I never had any problems with my Bionic and loved it, but the Nexus is a better phone. It's amazing how much faster and smoother it seems, and the build quality is very good. It's not cheap feeling at all. I think the Bionic's flimsy back actually made it feel a little cheaper. I do miss the Bionic's super bright screen outside, though. That thing is just amazingly visible in direct sunlight. The Nexus' screen can't hold a candle to it in that regard, at least.
I am curious to know if anyone here, that has switched from the Bionic to the Nexus, actually used ICS on their Bionic first. When I switched over to ICS from GB on my Bionic, it WAS like having a whole new phone, and responsiveness was amazing. Probably the same experience I would have gotten if I had upgraded from a .905 Bionic to a Nexus.
Well, that was my thought last night, so I called VZW and after about 10 minutes the conversation got to the point where they were offering me a replacement. No yelling or any arguing was required - it was very nice. They offered me any 4G LTE phone except the HTC 1X, Galaxy SIII or new Incredible (for free and no contract extension). They said that the Galaxy Nexus and Razr MAXX were probably the best that were available. After much deliberation, I opted for the Razr MAXX since I think it barely wins out due to the awesome battery life. Plus, ICS is officially released for it, so it's an upgrade from the Bionic any way you look at it. It should arrive in 2-3 days. I have no idea what the development community is like for the MAXX; I was just kind of hoping there was something out there.
Worst case scenario - I don't like it, sell it on eBay and buy a Nexus with the sale money.

I have no idea what the development community is like for the MAXX; I was just kind of hoping there was something out there.
Worst case scenario - I don't like it, sell it on eBay and buy a Nexus with the sale money.

I never rooted my bionic and my reading lead me to believe that the dev community hadn't fixed this particular issue with the data. You can buy a 4k battery fro the nexus for $20 so that wasn't a big issue to me. They didn't offer me a maxx just the regular razr.
Yeah, I've seen that 4K battery...Yikes. It could power a boat. The biggest appeal to the Nexus is unlocked bootloader and slim profile. Everything can have ICS these days, with the right hacks, so the "always get the latest updates from Google" tagline never swayed me. I still don't see how it beats the MAXX. I guess I'll find out soon enough if I made the right choice. I never had any complaints about the screen on the Bionic, and the MAXX is supposed to be the same if not a little better. I sit in front of an HD display all day at work to compare it to.

Jumping ship :(

In the midst of fighting with verizon over getting a working revo i jumped ship and bought a Moto RAZR on craigstlist for cheap. I appreciate all the help y'all have given over the last year and how hard everyone(especially mtmichaelson) has fought to make the revo a damn good phone. I have to admit, after tasting ics, gingerbread is just bland! Thanks again guys, and good luck on keeping the revo at least moderately caught up in the wake of all the new JB and ICS phones on the market!
I'm almost about ready to do the same. It's weird how this phone is a little over a year old and already obsolete.

I'm looking at jumping ship as well and buying a Droid 4. I know it uses a microsim and ours uses a full sim card. Do I need to do anything other than cut it down to micro size or will it just work when I stick it in the new phone? Do I need to contact Verizon for activation or anything? Thanks.

Micro is a completely different size and card. You would have to contact Verizon. You can go into a corporate store also. They have extras they can activate for you. Last I knew they were free with a sales pitch for an add a line our upgrade lol.

Haha, yeah. I'm sure there would be a sales pitch. lol Definitely.
Thanks for your answer but are you sure about the card? I've read that as long as you keep the circuitry and contact points intact cutting a sim down to a micro sim will still function. Or is there yet another kind of card I'm getting this confused with?
I recall seeing a how-to cut down the SIM card quite a few months ago. A video even. I'm certain Google would point you to something useful.

I got a new Rezound on ebay for around $300 and sold the Revo for a $100 and I could not be happier once I got ICS on the Rezound
You'd spend more time watching the video and doctoring your card than you would spend at a Verizon store getting a free replacement of the correct type....just sayin'....

I completely agree. I would go with free over cutting based off of a YouTube video.

Thanks for the replies. I think I will just go into Verizon for the freebie card as suggested.

I just switched to a galaxy nexus, which uses a micro sim and they just switched it out for me at the Verizon store; no sales pitch.

I did the same thing. Picked up a galaxy nexus off of craigslist for pretty cheap. After owning the original droid I'm happy to be back to vanilla android (ICS this time). My revo had become way to slow for my liking, even with mtmichaelson's rom (which made it way better than stock).
I destroyed verizon. Revo out. Samsung Galaxy S3 to replace. for free.
This is my wife's phone and we've had it for about 6-7 months. I rooted it, ROM'd it (1st Gingervolt, then Broken Out). I'm on the latest firmware update, and again rooted and flashed Broken Out. All throughout, there were issues with bluetooth, Vibe of Death, screen freezes.
I complained just the other day - hey it was Sunday on Labor Day weekend and I had a moment. 1st Verizon rep was willing to send a replacement Revo. I told her that was unacceptable, that all the forums I've read detail that the defects I've cited are baked into the phone, it is a lemon and should be recalled and that sending me the same lemony phone was unacceptable. I urged her to elevate my claim. I was insistent and was really quite angry that she was not getting it.
I then spoke with a really great rep - technical support - to whom I mentioned all I had done (except for rooting and flashing a rom) and truthfully told her that I had upgraded to latest firmware and still had screen freezes and bluetooth problems. I told her about what I read on the forums and how the phone is just fatally flawed. I also mentioned 20 years as a Verizon cell phone customer, my family plan with 5 phones, all with data, and that what I was asking for - a different model replacement phone - was neither outrageous nor unexpected.
She asked what phone would I prefer. I first said a Razr, but said the Galaxy S3 would be great, but I doubt they'd substitute. Without a moment of delay, she said I could have the Galaxy S3 and what color, blue or white... It was shipped immediately and we are awaiting it.
So pretty soon, on ebay, you are going to see our used LG Revolution...
The moral of this story is get past the first level of customer support and stand your ground. insist on a replacement. Tell them that the Revolution is a huge disappointment and does not provide the basic functions a phone should.
Man...i wish my experience with trying to get different phones was better... I did the same thing, insisted that i would rather go to another service than get a revo back... They didnt give a rats ass... The only reason i'm still with verizon is due to the razr i found for dirt cheap. ICS is so nice in comparison!

I didn't know it at the time, but we have to send our Revo back. Still, getting a S3 for the Revo is a home run.

This phone was obsolete when it was released honestly. The Droid Charge came out before it and was a better phone for the most part. The only reason I bought it was for the unlocked bootloader but I guess none of the Android developers did because we only had limited development (not a knock against the people who did develop, but for all the developers who complained about locked bootloaders and then didn't jump on one that was unlocked)

Giving up on the Bionic.

I'm throwing in the towel with my Droid Bionic. Frankly my experiences with this phone have been a complete disaster.
I got the phone in the first place because I wanted the lapdock. Thus far I've never got my lapdock working for more than 2 or 3 minutes at a time. Even doing flash to stock etc etc I still end up with no mouse control on the lapdock - stupid thing just freezes as soon as it comes up. At one point Verizon decided to ship me a replacement phone thinking that one of the ports on my phone was bad. Well not only did the new phone have the same problem - but they ended up charging me $600 for it because they claim they never got the one I shipped back. Despite my numerous calls to verizon they simply have elected to not do anything about it. So after buying two phones and a lapdock all I have is a phone that still does not work right and a lapdock that might as well be an oversized paperweight.
Between that and the crap like locking the bootloader, promising updates then not delivering I think this will be the last motorola unit I buy for a loooong looong time.
cool story. took you 2 years to figure all of this out? never thought to take either back while in warranty? not saying this phone is perfect but these are the things most normal people would have done.

I made tons of calls to both Motorola and Verizon regarding all of this. Verizon says they'll send me yet another phone (this would actually be my 4th one - I left out part of the sob story) - however they refuse to allow me to return the one I have to the store if they do that. Of course I have a real problem with that seeing how they ripped me off $600 already by claiming they never received one of my old ones I shipped back. Motorola pretty much said screw-off deal with Verizon.
What it boils down to is VZW sold me something that does not work, has never worked, sent me 3 replacements all of which did not work, charged me $600 for one of those when they should not have - and all the meantime I have a pile of **** that still don't work and a lapdock I can't use. --- and VZW seems to not give a crap about any of it.
Really disgusting experience all the way around. Just as a matter of principle I'm considering printing out all of the correspondences and march my butt down to small claims court and demand a) my $600 back and b) refund all my monthly bills for past 2 years since I've never had a properly working device.
You should post this to the new Marketing consultant to Motorola, Guy Kawasaki on Google+.
A new sob story may net u a current HD MAXX or discount (or better) to the X phone whenever it launches.
My dad's always said, the answer's always no unless you ask.

why have you never exchanged the lapdock?
Despite Motorola's efforts to ruin the device, I still find it to be pretty good. Its not the sexiest of devices, but its pretty solid and I've found I can do just about anything that the newer devices are able to do. I've learned that you enjoy a device more when you make it work for you, rather than wait for them to add new features and a system update. I'm not sure how much more Jellybean could offer because I'm able to do just about everything that Android is capable of doing.

Sorry you had bad luck with your phone. A lot of people had their bionic replaced with a nexus or a RAZR by Verizon for much less than you mentioned. Are you interested in selling your lapdock?

hmm sent back a $600 phone without tracking and delivery confirmation? That would not be Motorola's fault.

I'm guessing he used the return label VZW sends you with your replacement phone. Which means that he probably didn't write down the tracking info (who would, unless they've had issues before?), and just packed up the old phone and sent it in. This isn't the first time this has happened, BTW. I'm more surprised they didn't try to replace the lapdock for him as well.
OP, good luck with your next device... I've been looking for a replacement for my Bionic as its started to have some issues, and I'm not really happy with the options at this point. I'm hoping for some new stuff around Google I/O, but not holding my breath. FWIW, I've had way fewer hardware issues with my Bionic than with previous phones.

Well I only paid 50 bucks for it - but I wouldn't feel right about selling it to someone because I don't know if it actually works right.

Ahh yes the infamous tracking-number / label problem. Well that is how they screwed this all up to begin with I think. When they sent me a replacement phone, there was no return shipping label in the box. I called VZW and they sent me another box that was empty, expect for a return shipping label. I've tried and tried and tried to explain to them that my guess is that they're looking at the wrong shipping label because of this.
Everytime I call now they say the same thing. "Ok - we're going to start an investigation". Yes, that's right - since last August, every time I call they say this. I think the count is at 59 times now they've said they're "starting the investigation" (I will have to check my notes on exact number).. It's just a bunch of bull****.
