Unfortunately it didn't work on my device, maybe because I live in Germany with a different distribution policy?

Because every time I see it posted there is never a warning associated with it that doing this will break your push notifications. It's just the OCD in me.. If you are going to suggest people do something like this you should also explain the side effects of doing it.
I had to do it 6 times in a row, until it worked. Don't know if google has some kind of "random %" of having the chance to update everytime the device has a new try, and thus deleting google framework data makes your petition a new "try", and so in x tries you end up with the update chance.

this method reminds me of July, when we all were hitting f5 on our browser for ups to see if Google shipped our nexus 7. until Google actually 'ships' it out you won't get it.
Cool, worked the 1st time! Thanx a lot!
Worked the 4th time. Thanks.

While that might be a nice program for beginners, I don't recommend it in the long run (unless you happen to know how to unlock and root manually already, which even then, you probably don't want to use a toolkit)
It works and most of my xda friends who are getting the new nexus are already rooted in their other devices. It works very well.
Besides, it's pretty difficult to brick a Nexus device.

That's not the point though. While it may work, most people that use toolkits have no idea what it actually does. If they ever do get in a situation where they have to manually root (or use another feature from the toolkit), they are probably going to be clueless...
But don't get me wrong, I too used to use the toolkit when I first got my Nexus 7. But I eventually learned how to do stuff without the toolkit, and I have to say it's pretty cool Knowledge is power
Google really seem to be getting a reaming on japanese blogs/2ch by people who are expecting FedEx to be as flexible as takyuubin companies regarding scheduled/night/weekend delivery.

Nope, I received mine in 34 hours, 6:30pm on the 26th.
As soon as it hit "at local depot" I rang up customers service and had them set to "hold at facility for pickup".
Japanese customers that have never had any prior experience with FedEx are going to expect to be able to ring up and say "deliver on saturday in the afternoon" like it was Kuroneko Yamato or Sagawa Express and Homey don't play dat.

From Google's press release / blog post today:
With Android 4.2, you can add multiple users and switch between them instantly right from the lockscreen. We believe that everyone should have quick and easy access to their own stuff -- email, apps, bookmarks, and more. That way, everyone can have their own home screens, their own music, and even their own high scores.

This will solve one of my greatest complaints -- my only complaint, actually -- about the Nexus-7. I have to go to lengths to be able to hand my tablet to anyone else to use while still protecting my privacy. It galls me that not only do I have to lock down the Gmail app before handing over my N7, I have to lock down Chrome too, because Chrome will either automatically log into my account when Chrome visits mail.google.com (aka gmail.com) or will offer to do so. Same for all other Google sites (e.g. Google+). I hate that. Once JB 4.2 is on my N7, that will no longer be a concern.
This is pretty nice; although I don't let anyone else really touch or use my Nexus 7
When would they start 4.2 OTA for N7?? Nov 13 or earlier?
This would be nice.
My nexus is used as a family tablet & i'm reluctant to add my google account.
I'd like all of the goodies from the store from my account but don't want my gmail on there as the wife would go mental if she looked through all of my reciepts!
Yeah any word on 4.2 update?

I would actually let other people use my tablet with this!
This is huge... We're beginning to roll out Nexus 7's in select areas of work (K-12 public school district) to students with special needs and/or classes who can benefit from these devices. It would be awesome to have multiple accounts, ESPECIALLY if we can lock it down. I'd love to hand the Nexus 7 out to elementary students knowing that the icons cannot be deleted, etc. Any word on the degree of limits, if any, you can assign other users?
Should be good, chromebooks do this well already , log in and have all your ****, themes, bookmarks, logins/ passwords, apps, Google drive etc all separate and personalised. Even downloads are in a user specified area, available to just that user. simple old idea, but effectively done.

I'm sure it'll have some sort of administrtive rights to it
I share my Nexus 7 with my daughter - and it is actually quite hard getting it away from her.
Separate log ins and sign on's will make everything a lot more convenient - except the physical part of getting it back...
Now she can have the screens the way she wants.

Just spent an afternoon backing up and rooting my Nexus 4 and putting it all back again. Not quite as slick and easy a thing to do the first time but we got there none the less.
Anyway, we got there and now I find that two apps I use quite often don't work on a rooted device. Yep banking apps and it seems there isn't a fix. Seems like I only did 98% of my homework.
Grrrr so with that and the fact my 4.2.2 update keeps saying 'verification failed' after it downloads over and over has got me feeling a bit deflated.
Back to unrooted we go. Might have to manually update to 4.2.2. as well it seems. Thats for tomorrow I think. More than enough fun for one day.
what banking apps in particular OP? just curious...
Its the Barclays banking ones.
That's the reason I root my phone as some as I buy it. No need to backup reinstall the stuff. However I don't know about the banking app stuff. I am using Wells Fargo and Chase app and both work beautifully for me.

if it's just root that's an issue, it's not exactly rocket science to UNroot it it only takes about 2 minutes

Yes once you've done it a few times.
When its the first time round on an precious device it takes a little while to pull all the info/apps and process together.

This section is for general news/tips/tricks/guides/etc. Even the little information about the apps that won't work with root has nothing to do specifically with the Nexus 4.

So I remember when 4.3 hit there were all manner of little random quirks with various apps not being compatible and little things not working right. It took about a month for most major apps like MX Player, Lightflow, some others to get ironed out after it released. Also took a couple days to make rooting easy and stable. With us having to wait on *Official* Kit Kat by the time it comes out most the apps will be ready. Several of my apps have been updated recently and I've noticed 4.4 compatibility in the change log. So I guess I don't mind waiting a couple weeks. Although it still doesn't help me really understand why....

The look of the new launcher will also be possible with 3rd party launchers once they've been updated, since now Android supports transparent menu and status bars out of the box. Also, I think with those launchers we won't have this hideous gradient.

When I went out to get device back in Nov, I was between this and the G2. I chose this after the Optimus G's inherent fun....not to mention that device was released 3 months before this one, yet is still on 4.1.2. Well, it may be some time. I have it booting, touch works well, navigation is great. Looks like a great DD...once all working. However, as with all new forays, there are some bugs...some easier than others to squash.
1) Camera preview works, seems to take a picture, but hell if I can figure out where it went...LOL
2) Networking is NG
3) Cellular is NG
4) Audio is NG (this could be a big one, as if you look at the way it needs to be configured, it requires writing of a UCM mixer config for the deviec...LOL

Yea the photon turned into a joke sadly. But the good thing about the Optimus G and G2.. They may be behind on updates but both are updated by great devs with the latest version as quick as any other device with all features working nearly 100%. The G2 already has 4.4 internationally and it also helps that the N5 is pretty much the same hardware kind of like the atrix and photon.

Well, before I could do any sort of collaboration, I have to get the source I've got building upped. It's really screwey how they have this thing set up....took 3 different tries to get the right files to actually repo sync. Their instructions seem quite incomplete in some areas, and are totally GONE in others (like the links to getting VoiceCall and HiFi audio working...links are page not found).
Once I get it synced remotely, I'll be more than happy to have some others pitch in. I have a feeling it's going to take a few of us to do it any way.
But for now...if anyone knows how to write UCM mixer files for alsa, I'd love to have some pointers. Their explanation is nearly NIL...LOL
