worked perfect, thanks dude.
Worked perfectly for me to, had to do this a couple of times before it saw the update, thanks alot mate
Unfortunately it didn't work on my device, maybe because I live in Germany with a different distribution policy?

Because every time I see it posted there is never a warning associated with it that doing this will break your push notifications. It's just the OCD in me.. If you are going to suggest people do something like this you should also explain the side effects of doing it.
I had to do it 6 times in a row, until it worked. Don't know if google has some kind of "random %" of having the chance to update everytime the device has a new try, and thus deleting google framework data makes your petition a new "try", and so in x tries you end up with the update chance.

this method reminds me of July, when we all were hitting f5 on our browser for ups to see if Google shipped our nexus 7. until Google actually 'ships' it out you won't get it.
Cool, worked the 1st time! Thanx a lot!
Worked the 4th time. Thanks.
Hey,
Well I got my N7 yesterday and played around with it and all in all I think that it's a good tablet with 4.2.1. I find it to be slow sometimes when I am typing fast or using chrome.
If I did decide to root could I backup my device before I do so I can just restore and carry on like nothing has changed.
What are the advantages of rooting the N7, I know I can speed it up and delete stock apps.
Would appreciate it if someone helped me out.
Also if I do root can someone post
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
So that its a good idea to root then, can I backup before I root so I can carry on from normal?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I suggest that you learn what is root access and what you can do with it before doing so, rooting is not a goal, but the means to an end.
What I usually tell anyone who asks this question is: Do it if you need root access for something specific (can be as insignificant as one app). And if you need to ask without knowing if you have to root, then the answer is no until you understand what it is you're doing.
Edit: Do some research on root access and it's benefits/drawbacks and Nexus factory restore images to put your mind at ease on rolling back to stock. Having root access in and out of itself is harmless, what the user chooses to do with that can be dangerous, especially if what they are looking to do is delete system files.
Edit 2: Assuming that you are using stock firmware, I have heard of slowdowns caused by Google currents and its background sync. Try turning off the background sync and see if that helps with your issues.

Don't just do something just to do it. Rooting alone will add nothing to your device or its performance. Rooting allows access to areas of the operating system for apps that require it, but these are generally limited to backup apps and those that modify certain settings. It also makes a device more vulnerable to some serious problems if done wrong or if you misuse an app that has root access. If you are unsure, best to leave it alone until you know what the benefits are exactly and whether or not you need it. BTW, rooting will void your warranty on most devices and unless you understand how to recover from a problem and return your device to stock in the event you need warranty service or exchange, I would stay away from it.
I was also thinking of rooting with the Nexus Root Kit. And i also saw that you have an option to "Flash Stock+Unroot" has anybody tried this toolkit ?

meh, like others said, only root if there is something you need and to those that say you dont lose anything thats a tad wrong, some apps check for root and dont let you run them. There are apps that hide the root but from personal experience they dont always work for everything.

I tried it. I unlocked and rooted my N7 with it and I also flashed stock and unrooted it, because something went wrong and I had to do it (that mistake was made by me, not by the program). Everything went very good and fast, I recommend it (it's your choice to use a toolkit or not), but read everything carefully!
Of course all of this depends on what you want to do with the device after root. There is no point if you want to stick custom ROMs on it as being a nexus device it will constantly be updated. Only if you require root access to a specific application should you root the device. But also take into consideration if it is worth it. If it is for a minor improvement then you have the potential to brick the device and void warrenty for nothing. Only do it if there is a genuine need.

In a word, no. Titanium Backup will not even run on an unrooted device. Other backup apps may run on an unrooted device, but you will not be able to restore data from them if you are not rooted, only the actual apps. You need to first unlock the bootloader to root a Nexus 7.

I know I've been here only for one year, but I learnt many useful things. I tried this program and it works great, I recommend it, but only if you need something fast and simple and you don't want to learn anything. You can do it the hard way to discover something new, right? It's his choice after all, isn't it?

I don't advocate against the use of toolkits myself (as I've used even used them on my own N7), but I would at least urge you to understand what it is you're doing before you do it. And by that I don't mean knowing enough to manually input every command, just know enough to understand why you're doing something and have a general idea of how it is accomplished.
Trust me, learning a little bit before using the automated route saves you and everyone else a lot of crying and hand holding over simple matters if something ever goes wrong.

So I remember when 4.3 hit there were all manner of little random quirks with various apps not being compatible and little things not working right. It took about a month for most major apps like MX Player, Lightflow, some others to get ironed out after it released. Also took a couple days to make rooting easy and stable. With us having to wait on *Official* Kit Kat by the time it comes out most the apps will be ready. Several of my apps have been updated recently and I've noticed 4.4 compatibility in the change log. So I guess I don't mind waiting a couple weeks. Although it still doesn't help me really understand why....

The look of the new launcher will also be possible with 3rd party launchers once they've been updated, since now Android supports transparent menu and status bars out of the box. Also, I think with those launchers we won't have this hideous gradient.

It's funny that you mention it, just today we discovered that it is possible to flash custom ROMs. If you're on MJ5 and something goes wrong, you won't be able to un-brick your device. However if you're running an earlier firmware you can use Odin to re-flash stock. Can't wait to wipe this TouchJizz off the face of the earth, just waiting for that MJ5 Odin. :good:

Once your on Mj5 as of right now the most you can do is Root and theme. im Hoping we can get a Odin Package for MJ5 soon so we dont have to worry about bricks and we can start testing more things with out worrying about not being able to recover.
true..root ,theme and debloat ....You would think.after debloating this rom. And using sd read/write values that would increase a decent amount for such a early development.

Hello all.
Im new to the note 3... but not to xda. I dont post much at all. However I do have a rooted skyrocket and give all credit to Vincom. I still read through his threads regularly. I got the s2 when it was the flagship and now ive upped the grade to the next one. I think its wrong of the manufacturer and carrier to charge us a boatload for this device and chain it to the dock so to speak. It seems there is some experience in this thread so I will be checking in often. I also had the mj5 update sneek in before I knew what happened and it does seem that we are all leary of the dread 600$ brick. Thanks to all who dare. You are my hero (s).

I got one for Christmas and am kinda disappointed so far. Got it connected but the functionality sucks without all of Samsung's bloatware. Lack of weather no camera uploads no extra apps. Whatnot.
I'm not sure if I want to ROM the watch it give it the full android feel. Plus I love gear managers watch faces.
Is there way I can give the full functionality on 4.4? I'm even willing to download a little bit of bloat.
I just found a ROM that really works for me and it makes me sad to have to lose it.
Please help. I need some direction!

what do you like about touchwiz? everyone use their gear differently, but i really hated these black and white icons, and you couldn't change how many icons at the same time are displayed.. so if you want to go to voice memos for example, you had to swipe so many pages just to get to that app. i can't stand that. to this day, there is only one custom rom by fomey (bless you). i wouldn't even consider keeping the gear if not the custom ROM. samsung ****ed up big (not the first and not the last time).
As for the face and font colors, I'm sure Samsung will update it with more colors in customization in the future.
Adding more color plates....it is a piece of cake from the technical point of view! :silly:
I got mine a week early and have been loving it since I got it. I think more would get it, if it cost less. It is a very cool and useful watch.
