What exactly are you trying to accomplish? If USB debugging is on, you can use ADB via USB to access the filesystem in the phone if you need to backup files or other items. If you are going for a replacement and need to back things up to flash, if you have CWM/Safestrap, you can use hardware buttons to control those and make a backup, then reflash via USB to stock. Otherwise, you will have to back things up using ADB before that.
As for unlocking the screen, some phones can be unlocked with a button or sliding the keyboard out (my tablet unlocks via Menu hardkey, LG Ally unlocks via slide-out) although the D3 doesn't seem to unlock either way, so you are likely not able to do that.

Have to send my phone in for warrenty replacement...but I have custom rom

Hey guys,
So my screen went nuts on my phone to the point where it's so dim that you can barely see anything on it. I'm getting a replacement from Verizon so that means I'll have to send my old phone in. The problem is I know they will charge me a ton of money if they get it back with a custom rom on it. I know how to install roms but how do I get it back to stock rom without being able to see the screen? Any sort of recovery menus are unusable...
Thanks!

I've tried this but the thing is my screen is unusable so I cant get into any sort of recovery to flash roms. And when I use RSD lite my phone never shows up in the device list
If you have adb on your computer and debugging is enabled you can try using the command
adb reboot-bootloader
from there rsdlite should work
Get into bootloader mode and flash sbf.
You don't need to be able to see the screen to get into bootloader mode.
Sent from my XT860 using xda app-developers app
Boot your phone into bootloader
Then choose ap-fastboot
download my 1 click sbf. Exe (not the rsdlite version)
plug your phone into the computer
Doubleclick the sbf.exe
Its automatic and will erase all data on your phone (not sdcards)
Done
Return to warranty center
thanks for the help guys! one more thing...anyway to get my pictures off the device without being able to see the screen?
When you plug it in from the booted up OS just copy the pics from the sd card.
Sent from my xt862 using xda app-developers app
Go to kmart and get a sdcard with the kit that will allow you to plug it into your computer then just transfer it over...or....
Use your use usb cable plug it into your puter navigate to your dcmi folder and transfer those files to your puter
It seems as though my pictures were stored on my internal memory because when I insert my card into my new phone, no pictures are found. I'm unable to access my phone through usb becaused without the screen I can't get it into usb mode

i'm curious if vzw is still shipping replacement D3s or if they've "run out" yet. i'll find a reason to send mine in for warranty once they run out.
I'll have to send mine in a couple of days, phone jacket is defective. Hopefully Moto will screw everything up again and I'll get a new phone instead. Last time I asked them to change my screen and they took more than a month to fix that.

[Q] OTA updated on rooted phone

Hi, I have a rooted HTC One running the Google Play Edition ROM (first rooted device) but I stupidly hit the 4.3 OTA update when I got the notification. Apparently this is a big no-no, but I didn't know any better and now my phone can't get past HTC's splash screen. I can still enter bootloader and recovery (CWM 6.0.3.2) but that's about it.
I don't have a ROM on the internal memory, so can't just revert to the previous 4.2.2 and because I can't enter the phone's settings to turn on USB Debugging. The phone does not show up in Windows Explorer, nor in 'adb devices' when I do the usual thing on Command Prompt. The phone shows up in Device Manager under Android USB Devices as 'My HTC' but again, no device will appear in Command Prompt, otherwise I'd adb push a new ROM onto the phone.
I've tried clearing cache, dalvik and so on with zero luck. It's causing me all sorts of grief and I've been pulling out my hair since yesterday. I've heard that an OTG micro-USB cable might help by loading a ROM onto a flash card, but I'm looking at a few days delivery (at least) and would like to get this problem sorted ASAP. If you can help, I'll name my firstborn after you.

I think an RUU for your carrier will do the trick. There are a lot of RUU's posted in the HTC One forums in the various sections, search and find the one for your phone/carrier. Pretty sure that will do the trick!

Hi, I've read up on this option but apparently it unroots my phone and basically returns it to factory settings. This will be my last choice. Thankfully all my photos from a recent trip have been backed up to Dropbox/Drive, but I'd need to root again and jump through all the hoops. I simply want a way to get a new ROM onto the phone to flash it, but neither of my computers are recognising the phone in recovery, with USB debugging off.

Dude, have you a phone that won't get past the splash screen, and you're worried about losing data? If you could get a computer to see the phone, you could push a rom to it in ADB and then sideload it in recovery. If you can't, I think you're left with an RUU I'm afraid.

You can just root/unlock/s-off it after, you've come this far already so you should be familiar with the short process
Flash a ROM using an OTG cable if you have one.

Cheers for the info guys. I think I'll wait till Monday to buy an OTG cable, fingers crossed this will work. In hindsight, I should have kept some ROM on the phone memory or left debugging on. At least now I'll know not to do an OTA update on a rooted phone.

[Q] Remove Unlock flag without ADB, using just Fastboot

Hi everyone
Been running through the hoops on this one. I, along with several others on the board, appear to be having faulty usb ports. whether or not it is hardware is undetermined, but returning to stock by flashing a RUU hasn't fixed it. I can access the phone via fastboot, but not via adb. When the phone is on, the bottom port is useless. If it does notice somehting plugged in, it immediately goes into car modec and says i have the wrong adapter.... mind numbing.
Is there any way to remove the unlock flag from the bootloader via fastboot?
thanks guys

How to back up Z1 with broken touch screen??

Hello.
So my Z1 touch screen no longer works because of a crack.
Xperia Companion detects the phone, but I can not do anything as it says the screen is locked and asks to unlock the screen to use companion. As the screen is broken, I can not do this!
Is there a way, with this broken screen, that I can get into the phones files and back up old texts, photos etc??
When I go into my PC's devices even there, it shows Xperia Z1 as a drive but it doesn't get into the memory from that for some reason (EDIT - I think because I can't use USB debugging mode because I can't use the phone screen to select that)
Thanks

UB = Unlocked bootloader
LB = Locked bootloader
so you need your data back
no thing you can do but repair ur screen cause if you was have recovery you can use software to screen the recovery
and there is another way by flashing ftf without include data but this will remain your screenlock
sorry but you have to repair your screen to get your staff

CHANGING OR REPLACING SCREEN DON'T RESETS YOUR DEVICE.
YOU DON'T NEED AN BACKUP ACTUALLY BUT IF YOU ARE WISHING TO KEEP IT SAFE USE SONY COMPANIONFOLLOW THIS STEPS

Nexus 6 data recovery

Hi,
So I busted the screen/digitizer on my N6. Phone will still ring and give notifications but screen is dead.
With no way to take the phone out of charge only mode and access it via USB, is there any kind of work around to recover my files on the phone without resorting to buying a new digitizer/screen for $150(already got a replacement phone). I'm comfortable enough with computers and doing cmd functions, I just have no idea how to tackle this.

Do you have TWRP recovery installed? Booting to TWRP should give you access to internal storage.
Is ADB enabled in developer menu (which itself would have had to been enabled). If so, the obvious answer would be to reboot to bootloader and use adb pull.
If nether of those options, then *maybe* you can use a technique where TWRP is booted on the PC. I'm on the road, so I can't test that for you.
Nope no TWRP, not even rooted and I didn't set up developer mode. Learned my lesson and have that all set up on my 6p, guessing I might be screwed.
Thanks so much for taking the time to try and help me out.

I'm not so sure I'd give up quite yet. The booting twrp on your PC might work. requires USB debugging enabled.
Do you have tasker? Maybe we could create an auto task. requires usb access which you don't have.
That's what I get for spitballing before coffee.
So, unless your bootloader is already unlocked and you can fastboot flash twrp, you're stuck. I'm sure you're aware, unlocking the bootloader now would wipe your data you're trying to recover.
