Hey guys.
At the moment I'm trying to unlock a Samsung Galaxy S5830i for all networks. So I came across this thread and fought with some minor problems, which I solved after looking through the forum. Now I can't find anything similar to the Hex-String in the bml5.img, which should show me the code to unlock the phone.
Now my question: Is it still possible to unlock the S5830i by myself?
After reading the comments, where people with different phones were successfull, I want to ask, because nobody wrote about the "i"-version of the phone. And before I spend hours in searching for an way to unlock it again I want to know, if it is worth the effort.
If you need any more information, feel free to ask.
Greetings, Matt

A newbie here to all things rooting
I am going to be travelling Europe and South Asia in 2 weeks and want to take my captivate with me. IF I root the phone, will that unlock the phone so that I use a local SIM of the country that I am travelling.
Another reason I want to root is that I am sick of all the ATT bloatware, and would be nice to get some Froyo going
Could please suggest/point a relatively simple method for a linux dumb like me.
Much appreciated.
No that would be sim unlock. I am mobile and cant post links. But search that. And post in Q&A and you will get the answer.

As stated this is posted in the incorrect section ask in Q/A and you will stand a better chance of getting your answer.
As to the bloatware yes rooting will allow you to get rid of it

Just an FYI, if you have a question, you should post it in the "Q&A" treads. Otherwise you will probably get an ear full about how it should not be in the "Development" section.
To answer your question question, no, they are two different things. You can root your phone, but you can also unlock your phone. Doing one does not do the other. You do not have to root to unlock you phone for over sea use. You do however have to root to remove all the bloatware and to be able to mod or run other programs/ROMs you wish. There are numerous treads relating to this in XDA, so you should easily be able to find out how to do both if you wish.
Hope that answers your question. And just remember to post general topics or questions in the appropriate sections.

Beat me to it.
Hi to all...why there are so many things to GT-S5830 and nothing for GT-S5839i? Is it for being a new model? Or simply there is no interest on it? It's a bit annoying see so many things for ace but not for my ace...
Very few devs have the i model to start cooking stuff.
If no one's done it for you its never too late to start doing it yourself.
There's plenty of tutorials, guides and information online to get you started. This is better than expecting someone else to Cook something and then complain about no support for your phone, android version or whatever.
there's not much difference between the two. why ask for a specific dev for your phone if you can use anything that was built for the ace?
I see what you saying...the question is...where to start and what to search?
Hello,
I know this might've been answered atleast a dozen times, but I'm seriously in a hurry and I need a reply, fast or advanced, the situation is seen from the title, however, as I will explain it here, I'd like to mention that I did search and try everything. however none have worked, and I'm seeking professional and or novice help from someone who understands technology.
I have a Galaxy tab, P1010 (wifi only), I've dug with it around, it's sort of new, still got the warranty, to the point, I think it's bricked.
It's giving me the picture of the phone being unable to connect to the PC. (Warning sign in between them, bet most of you know how it looks like eitherway).
Is this really critical, or is there a way to fix it? And I'd like to ask whether someone could help me find some stock firmware, for the EU tab?
That's pretty much all summed up, don't shoot me too hard if I posted this in the wrong forum or this is already overasked,
thanks.
This is not a problem, this screen is still a download screen. You need to restock, flashing will still work. However, this is not a forum for the P1010, it's for the P1000, you need to ask again in a P1010 forum, they should be able to help you.

ableeker,
I think this is the forum for P1010 too
but there aren't that many P1010 devs and users around.

Thanks for all the help, I've decided to fix it today and it worked perfect, simply putting 2.2.1 worked.
Since it's risky, I'll try upgrading to gingerbread after my girlfriend is back from a trip with it... I hope it works well and won't brick (seriously this time).
Thanks again, and bye.
Hello All,
I am new to phone forums but not new to XDA I have experience with rooting tablets but not phones. I have the Galaxy note Tmobile and I am tired of the bloated crap they give you to run the phone. I did a couple of searches and maybe keying in wrong words. what program do I need to figure out to unlock phone so I can then download the root packages and beging rooting?
Thanks,
Joe
Good Evening:
This is my first time and first post here. I've gotten pretty frustrated and am hoping someone can help me out? I have a Galaxy S phone, model number SHW-110S; firmware: 2..2; kernel: 2.6.32.9; build version: FroYo.SK22. I've been all over the net and can't seem to get the users manual specific to this particular phone. So, I have a number of questions? Let's start with this one: where can I get/download a users manual specific to this phone? If it becomes too difficult to find, then my next question would be: Can I upgrade this phones O.S.? Now, there are still many more questions, but I think that's enough to get started in the right direction.
Thank You:
Rick
Hi, ive been lurking a long time and I believe that your model of the Galaxy is a Korean version.
I found this page about turning the SHW-110S into an I9000 model. I can't post the link since i have less than 10 posts so just look up Turn SHW-110S to GT-I9000 (Samsung Galaxy S) on Google
I hope it can help you in some way. :good:
Maybe it helps asking your question in the galaxy s q&a subforum

REPLY TO kishagi:
Afternoon kishagi:
You are correct; it is a Korean make/model. It was with great interest that I read you reply. NO ONE has suggested this maneuver. And keeping with that theme, would it not be best just to upgrade the O.S? As far as I can tell, I can go only as far as Honeycomb 2,3,6(?). Now, should I option for this upgrade, I wonder if I'd be able to activate the FM/TV receiver in the phone? I've done a LOT of searching and believe I've found the answer to the FM question. That is to install a widget called simply "Galaxy S radio widget". However, it seems that widget is defunct(?). So, could you suggest another widget that is comparable and compatible with this phone? And would you know if I'd upgrade whether this widget would still operate in Honeycomb? THANX for responding and my apologies for taking so long to reply!
STAY SHARP:
Rick
ADDENDUM: This has got to be THE most frustrating forums/site I've ever been in!!!! Once you login, just trying to get back to this forum/subforum is a nightmare!! I'm also extremely disappointed by the lack of response/lack of knowledge this supposedly "special forum" delivers. Read the "into" to this forum, it clearly deceives anyone that comes to this forum into thinking their phones issues might be solved. I've not only had so much difficult in trying to start/post a "thread" (hell, most of the time I can't even find the "icon" to tik), once I login, I have one hell of a time even finding/getting into this subforum. I'm not getting/receiving responses to my questions. Clearly, there was no one devoting "'special" attention/service" to this forum as stated in the introduction. IF I find where to unsubscribe I will certainly do so. TO THE DEVELOPERS OF THIS FORUM: You and this supposed forum are a sad joke and a complete waste of time and space.!!!!!
