Hi folks,
I tried updating my S plus to ICS today by following the instructions listed here:
theandroidsoul.com/galaxy-s-plus-i9001-ice-cream-sandwich-update-install-cyanogenmod-9-cm9-pretty-good-and-working-rom
I read through the instructions and it looked pretty simple. I successfully installed Team Win recovery, performed a backup, wiped, and then installed the CM9 rom.
After the installation, the phone just boots back into Team Win recovery. I tried reverting to the backup, but it still just boots to recovery every time.
Now that I'm stuck in TeamWin recovery, I'm at a loss on what to try next .
Does anyone have any insight on how I can fix the problem?
Thanks,
Evan
Sometimes when you flash new Recovery (usually when replacing stock recovery with modified recovery for the first time) you get stuck at bootloop. It means /boot partition was damaged. After flashing TWRP did you restart your phone and it booted correctly, or did you install everything (TWRP, got backup, wipe and install new ROM) at once?

So is reflashing in Odin what you are suggesting? Sorry if I'm misunderstanding.
And yes, after I flashed TWRP it booted fine, the 2nd time I went into recovery, performed the backup, wiped, then flashed the rom. I've tried wiping both the cache's with no success. I've also tried reflashing the rom, wiping the cache's, restoring with the backup, wiping cache's again... nothing seems to be working
What would be different if I had installed everything (TWRP, backup, wipe, rom) at the same time?
*Edit* Reflashed through Odin and it worked great! Thanks for the help, I'm a little scared to start messing with the phone again, but ICS is tempting...
Got the rom working with a fresh backup after fixing the bootloop. Thanks again for the link divibyzero, the troubleshooting steps solved the problem, whatever it was, and now its running ICS
These Samsungs S+'s seem to be a little more finiky than my HTC.

You didn't specify, so I'll assume you have an i9001, if this is not the case, you probably shouldn't follow these instructions
Just reflash the bootloader as explained here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24831012&postcount=1330) and you'll be fine. I had the exact same problem when I had installed CWM on my own device. It's not with adb, but it's not like you have to do a lot of effort to get Odin or anything and it will fix your device.

You must properly install Samsung mobile drivers on your PC, kill Samsung Kies process (or even better: uninstall Kies) and enable USB debugging on your phone. Then it will work.

The problem was that I was using Windows 8. I was able to resolve the issue after doing it on Windows XP.
Hello,
I own an Xperia Z C6603 and i was running the latest oficially available firmware before
i m quite new to all the stuff regarding flashing/rooting/unlocking etc
so today i decided to give it a shot.
now my phone is in a state that i cant use it any more.
Basically what i wanted to do is install this [BeanStalk-4.4015] custom rom. Now its stuck on the loadscreen forever.
I started with rooting the device following the description in one of the posts i found here (flashing the previous kernel with flashtool then rooting it and flashing the original latest kernel again) which worked out very well.
After that i unlocked the bootloader following another guide here in forums which went ok without any problems aswell.
As it seemed like it reset all my settings after unlocking the bootloader i reenabled the developer mode to set the USB debugging and security options for unofficial software aswell.
All went fine and i was preparing to install the custom rom so i put the zip file on my sd card entered the recovery mode and flashed the rom zip file.
It seemed all ok and the phone was restarting and its stuck in the boot screen ever since that. I tried to get it back in order by trying out various stuff i could find here on forums.
when i tried to reset the delvik cache initially i did not see any error messages or anything so i assumed that its done correctly also cleared the other caches which were listed. I was getting a bunch of errors but i assumed its because the folders could be empty as it seemed like the phone was completely reset after the bootloader unlock.
I could not get anywhere with the CWM recovery mode so i flashed MOEW kernel through flashtool. The meow kernel was mentioned in the post regarding the custom rom as viable and it included TWRP recovery so i wanted to give it a try.
First exactly the same happened when i tried to boot it normally... Stuck...
So after that i tried to mess around with the TWRP recovery which seemed a bit more complicated than CWM.
First that came to my eye was that i could not enable all the partitions (system was constantly disabled) i managed to enable it after hitting the fix permissions button a bunch of times also i started to get some error messages while trying to reset dalvik cache but none of this changed the main problem at all.
Also i m unable to access the SD card from my computer for some reason even if i enable USB teathering in CWM or TWRP.
any suggestions how to get the phone back to work ?

hey if you wana go back to stock rom follow this post forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2240614
i think u have to fastboot and flash boot.img
try pacman rom which is better and bug free rom
Hi, are you still able to connect to flashtool in flashmode? If so have you tried to flash back to stock rom?
Check this thread out, it contains good stuff.... 3rd video show how to flash stock ....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2275632
Good luck !!
Hello,
thx for your replies i m still able to access all the modes it just does not load up if i dont do anything
after i unlock the bootloader to i need to reroot the phone ?
as it seems right now to me it simply doesnt write anything when i try to flash the rom also some partitions are not available
Hello,
i managed to unbrick the phone using this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2458530
however i tried to redo all the steps following the guide to install the beanstalk rom and noticed that i m getting an error about updater package when i try to execute the installation from TWRP any ideas ?
would you suggest trying another 4.4 based rom ?
Hello again,
ok so i gave up on the beanstalk 4.4 rom and decided to try my luck with pac rom mtayabkk suggested
so now the problem is not as big as it was.
Able to get the rom to run however i m unable to import my contacts/sms/call log using titan backup
The restore seems to work but after that i m getting com.android phone has stopped error everywhere i go on my phone (the contacts/etc are actually restored in this process tho and work fine apart from the errors)
i did restore a bunch of other settings together with the contacts aswell which i found as safe to back up in a guide i found
so can you give me an advice how to properly restore this to the newest pac man rom and avoiding various errors after that ?
ps
i moved all my media to sd card so it does not concern me the only thing i cant seem to be able to move over apart from contacts/sms/call log are the APN settings which is bothering me a bit aswell as i can not receive the configuration messages from carrier but i found them on the internet and i will add them manually
trying to restore the stock backup from PC companion right now to export them again as i lost the backup in process of trying to deal with the error i was getting
would you suggest trying again with titan backup or any other tools ?
I have tried this numerous times still no result.
Cm 10.1.3 works perfectly fine. But once i flash it with my Titanium backup update.zip file. There will be errors, and after i reboot it, it iwll just get stuck at the spinning blue circle. I have tried everything, from apps+data to only app data. Nothing works.
I would have to factory reset and reflash it again.
I use clockworks mod recovery.
My phone is a odin rooted Galaxy S3 Lte (i9305)

use recovery to flash roms not TB, its much more reliable.. i think the problem is because of apps and data you trying to restore with the update.zip. i know you use tb because you want to restore your apps+data easily while flashing new rom, but tb seems to give problems with this method

yes i see, but that seems to be the problem ''restoring apps, data with tb'' and from what i know it occurs that this sometimes gives errors, fc's and bootloops like in your case

you could try to export your backups (only data) to pc temporary and after having flashed the rom with full wipe, install the apps again and put the backups manually in corresponding directories and see how that is gonna work out. I gave up on TB because of this problem and usually i always start fresh with new flashed roms. I only put my personal files on pc and put it back manually after rom install.

yes, most of the times works fine but cant guarantee it will work with every app, i guess has something to do with permissions i.m.h.o
The problem I'm having originally started when I attempted to install a marshmallow global port rom on my g4. For some reason even after doing a clean install the rom was buggy, screen would become unresponsive, and apps would consistently crash. I attempted every possible option from recovery. Wipe, install several different roms, restored nandroid backup (unresponsive screen issues still persisted). Finally, I decided to restore stock firmware with a complete wipe of the phone via kdz. However somehow the system instability persists. An error will pop up saying "Process system isn't responding. Do you want to close it?" So now I have no custom recovery and have a hard time even getting to the settings menu to enable usb debugging. I'm stumped and what I should do....

I managed to reinstall twrp and root. However, installing different roms whether it be stock or otherwise does not resolve the issue. I'm absolutely boggled how this issue can persist across flashes. I'm hesitant to call it a hardware problem because the phone is mint and there was no physical damage/shock done to the phone right prior to the issues occuring.
hi all, i made an xda account because i really cant understand whats going on with my phone
HTC One M8 running Android 6.0 (rooted)
so after rooting my phone, i proceeded to install xposed.
i flashed the zip - no problem
i installed the apk, and after choosing 4/5 modules that i wanted, i went ahead and enabled them all and rebooted to activate them.
this is where the problems started. my phone booted, however it kept on flashing a screen with the deafult One M8 wallpaper at me. after a few seconds, it came up with an error "com.android.systemui has stopped"
not sure what was going on, i went to twrp and directly restored my nandroid backup, but after waiting for 15 mins, i realised my phone was in bootloop, so i went back to twrp and did a factory reset and restored my nandroid. but again, it went into bootloop. i tried factory resetting and restoring 3 times before giving up.
my phone isnt connecting to my laptop anymore either, but if i need to flash anything i can do it with my sd card.
im not a complete noob but im still learning and ive never not been able to restore my nandroid.
thanks in advance for any help i can get

*. Flash xposed uninstaller zip and try booting your device. Link here - http://dl-xda.xposed.info/framework/uninstaller/
-->> use thisĀ» make a full wipe from recovery, then restore nandroid backup.
*.While restoring nand. from recovery, make a full wipe like wipe system etc.. Then restore your nand. Then you're good to go.
thanks a ton for your reply
i already tried flashing the uninstaller - didnt work
but ill try your second method. thanks once again

Hey, the 1st one won't works, Cuz you'd already did a factory data reset, so that's gonna be won't work. And you'd tried restoring nandroid over that, so that's failed.
I hope second one will works.

Deym!!
So, look at the One m8 forums, you'll get the workarounds.
I've found one here - https://forum.xda-developers.com/ht...k-twrp-t3086860?_e_pi_=7,PAGE_ID10,5801529172
@chaitra26, either DL any custom ROMs and flash it via custom recovery [Twrp].
Look here for custom ROMs - https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/development?
Regarding that '' no OS installed'' error, that's common when you try to reboot your device from twrp without installing any system images /ROMs.
FYI - when you full wipe your device and tries to power up you'll get the same warning.
