Can't Install zip file from sdcard - HTC Sensation XL

I have ICS stock rom, rooted and s-off, HBOOT 6.28.6666 and Using CM Recovery v 5.8.3.1.
I copied the zip files to my sdcard and tried to install via recovery.
Every time the installation fails eg,
Installing /sdcard/*****..zip
Finding update package .....
Opening Update package ....
Installing Update .....
E:Error in /sdcard/*****.zip
(Status 0)
Installation Aborted
Could anyone please tell me what is wrong with my recovery.

The file in meta-info is corruped.

I have tried it with 3 different zip files and the result is the same, you can substitute ***** for any file name.
Also the file is not corrupted as it is the same result with any zip file I download from this forum.
Thank you all for your prompt reply.

Change the recovery, as far as i know 5.8 is the touch-version of CWM, use the one provided by unlimited.io, you can find it in the tool provided in my signature
Hope this helps.

Also, if you send files via ADB or via Mounting USB, if it gives you errors like this, restart recovery. Well, this kind of errors give you if you change a file with the same name.

Thanks for your reply. I download your multi tool and used option 3 to install ICS Recovery (unlimited.io)
Same error when I tried to install from zip file on sdcard.
Could it be because I used protected HBOOT from unlimited.io when doing S-Off in my phone? At the moment I have HBOOT 6.28.6666.
Do I need to install different hboot?

Am I the only one with this error?
Has anyone else got HBOOT 6.28.6666 with working recovery?
As I have used unlimited.io ics protected hboot, do i need to do anything after this to get S-OFF with working recovery.
I have already tried CWM Recovery (5.8.3.1) and unlimited.io ICS recovery.

Try flash ruu gb and starts over with the flashing tool.

Thanky all for your replies. At the moment I can not try anything as my phone has black screen of death.
The screen is black and remains so after power on or hard reset. My battery is fully charged and also tried with USB Cable, still black screen.
I need to do Jtag on my phone. Looking into possibility of buying riffbox and then play around with it.

Ok you need to stop posting the same question on multiple threads! Please be patience and wait for responses. You claim that you relocked the bootloader before ou attempted the OTA, but did ou also remove CWM and replace it with the stock HTC recovery? That will prevent the OTA from completing successfully.
Yhanx for quick response can u tell me how can i replace stock HTC recovery ?????

You need to extract the recovery.img file from a RUU/ROM.zip file. Then you need to unlock the bootloader again and reboot into fastboot mode and flash the recovery.img file like you did for CWM.
Thanx mate it really works.

Latest Virtuous Quattro ICS rom

Hi all
I haven't racked up 10 posts thus i can't post in there so I'm forced to ask here =(
I just downloaded the latest virtuous quattro rom however after having downloaded it two times already, when I try to unzip the file on my computer, it tells me that the file is corrupt and i'm unable to unzip the file. The reason I need to unzip it is because I need to manually flash the boot.img as I haven't rooted my phone.
Does anyone have any solutions for me? Is it just me?
Thanks guys
Maybe I should mention that I've flashed the beta versions of that rom without any problem. I've always done it through manually flashing the boot.img through fastboot
No problems with extracting. Your zip file is probably corrupted.

I'm not sure how I should go about doing that. Can you show me how to do that?
The software I'm using to unzip should be fine, I used that to unzip the other beta versions and they worked fine.

If it helps, when I tried to flash the rom through clockworkmod recovery, the installation was aborted. I suspect the zip file is corrupted?
Obviously the zip was corrupted and it seems like you're downloading from a cache, try to clear your browser cache and redownload from a different mirror, or using a different browser.

You need 4EXT RECOVERY.
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using XDA App

is it possible flash a rom without s-off?

as the title, my phone couldnt get into adb to get s-off
You need either HTC Dev unlock
or revolutionary s off to flash a custom ROM
That's the simple explanation

well, im unlocked, so i can flash it through recovery

You can
And make sure you fast boot flash your boot.img as well
Sent from my Nexus 7
If you're unlocked through htc dev, just flash custom recovery (4ext touch recommended) and you can flash custom roms after that.
Just make sure to flash boot.img through adb as said by mark. Always do this after flashing new rom when you are s-on.

Every time you flash a new ROM or kernel you need to open up the zip of the new ROM and fast boot flash it, otherwise it probably wont boot unless there is a similar kernel already

If you use the app to install recovery, make sure to extract the recovery.img file in the downloaded zip and manually flash that through fastboot. Only have to do this while s-on

the problem is your "unlocked" bootloader. you can only get OTA updates with a "relocked" or "locked" bootloader.
just use fastboot and type in "fastboot oem lock" and it should work if your still on stock-rom.
Would it be named "OTA_WL_JB_spcs_wwe".zip

what are you trying to install? an official OTA update or a zip-file which you downloaded?
The OTA. I havent downloaded any roms at all I'm still on stock
Sent from my HTCONE using xda premium
so you've downloaded a zip-file which contains the OTA update, right? if yes, you'd just have to flash this file in your recovery.
As I understand it, Your phone has a OTA available via [Settings - About - Software Updates]
You have downloaded and tried to install - but it boots the custom recovery instead of the stock recovery.
To fix this you would need to install a stock recovery.
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2373111
Hope that was what you was after.

this was what i thought too, but then he mentioned his zip file... when you do an OTA via settings, you should never see this zip...
but i agree with SolCenva, flash stock recovery, lock your bootloader and it must work..

[Q] need help with custom recovery.

Hi, I'm a new user.
I just unlocked my bootloader, and I was looking to put a custom Rom on my device .
But wherever I look , I can't find a custom recovery.
Can you introduce some custom recoveries to me.
Oh and I don't know how to put a custom recovery on my phone too,so I need some help with this too. =))
Ps: I don't want to root my phone.
I will be thankful if you help me.
TWRP: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2395979
4EXT: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1377751
CWM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1918450
(I suggest 4EXT)
To flash one of them, rename the IMG file to recovery, place it into your fastboot folder, boot into bootloader(fastboot mode) open command prompt navigate to your directory
Command to flash is "fastboot flash recovery recovery.IMG"
Hope this helps

The preliminary steps are to unlock bootloader (which I assume he has done that or if he is on HBOOT 1.13.0000, then use Revolutionary to S-OFF and then flash custom recovery and root), flash ClockworkMod recovery, then flash a superuser.zip to obtain root.
There's a guide made by myself in my signature so check it out. If you still need help, post back.
