Was thinking about rooting my rogers htc raider. Iam looking to gain more battery life and enjoy customizing my phone. How easy is clockworkmod recovery to use and would it be a good choice for what im looking for?
Cwm is easy to use but most have found the wcx or twrp work Better on this phone I don't know why but they do even I was having cwm crash all the time while flashing some roms so I made the change and have had 0 issues.

i use wcx personally......
i think cwm has been updated to ver 6 now ... still not interested though.. wcx works for me
I use wcx too and it's been perfect for me. As for rooting, use the all in one tool in the sticky here, very easy, but slightly time consuming.

Ah ok...I read cwm is the only one that will work for my raider as Iam on the rogers network here in Canada. Is that true?

Not true. Bell Raider here. I've used CWM and WCX (and I think I tried TWRP but didn't stick with it). Also used CWM and WCX on my friend's Rogers Raider. CWM is my favourite.
I tried CWM a while back. Seemed to be less usable and was definitely a lot more buggy than WCX's. Try em both and see what works best for your device.

Yep, totally not true. I have a Rogers Raider running on Bell Canada now, and I've used all the recoveries there are for this phone. I have settled on TWRP personally, but I also liked CWM just fine. My main beef with it was that it couldn't restore large backups, so I ended up boning my system after flashing a rom for testing. I do think CWM has fixed that in the newest version, but I'm happy with TWRP so why change?
Since you might ask, you can also run the ROM of any carrier on your Rogers Raider. As I said, I'm on Bell, so I originally flashed the stock Bell ROM before I started running custom roms (where some of them are AT&T, Telstra, etc based).
Once you unlock this phone, sky is the limit.
Help. Used hasoon all in one toolkit, I flashed cwm but cant choose zip from sd card. Says error cant mount sdcard. Any ideas?
Sorry more details... when I click permroot I think it boots in recovery, but then the prompt box says waiting for device...and nothing happens..?

are you trying to root the phone? if you are, all you need to do left is basically install superuser.
the all-in-one-kit did the same to me. it loaded the recovery fine but didnt actually install superuser to give me the root permissions.
not sure if it was supposed to or not though.
Ya just had to root. I figured it out I downloaded v2.2 of hasoon toolkit for some reason i had old version. So when I clicked permroot button it downloaded superuser zip to my phone, before it did nothing with old version. Good to go now all rooted

Hi I just bought a nexus one and was a little confused and was looking for some help. I looked around and couldn't find a solid answer. I want to root my nexus one running frg83 update. I saw there's a 1-click method recently made by I forget who which is supposed to work with almost all phones, nexus one included. Once I use that to root the phone, can I just download a rom, like evils desire rom, rename it to update.zip, put it on my SD card and flash through normal recovery? Sorry if that's a dumb question. Any help would be great. Thanks.

You have to flash a custom recovery first.
Do u know which one works with this version of android? That ra one?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Yes, you could use the amon ra or the clockwork mod. Your choice.
If it's a brand new Nexus One, it's probably SLCD, which means you can't use Clockwork until they make it compatible. The Amon recovery should work but it has to be 1.8 or up.
Also unless there's progress I'm unaware of, one click root won't work on this version. You'll have to follow the manual instructions for rageagainstthecage. And you can't use ROM Manager until Clockwork is fixed.

thanks for the help.. i used this to root and it worked: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
clockwork mod flashed too. it was a used nexus but i had google send me a replacement. still amoled i'm pretty sure. it has the red tint to it and blacks are really black so i think it's still amoled. anyways, so once it's rooted and i have the recovery flashed, i can just flash a rom right? no need for sd partitions or whatever?

Yep, you can flash any rom now.
Obviously possible but I am trying to root my buddies CAptivate and NOTHING is working. What am I missing. TRied z4, cant use because AT&T blocks 3rd arty installs, tried superone click and does nothing, tried the other one click and it sits on the little blue screen saying my phone should be rebooting but my phone just sits there ? Tried the "update.zip" method and tells me "bad E-siganture"
can someone please HELP!!!
Pc has current drivers installed and has degugging checked
1: search for esignature problems, there is a way around this. (simple)
2: use sideload wonder machine from android central to load z4root.
3:use z4root

Thank you. I finally got this to work as far as I have the Super User app installed on the phone. I thought if I had this then the phone is def rooted yet when I try to delete ATT bloat ware it still won't let me.
Is this only because its still running the factory 2.2 froyo. Will the full SU benefits be there one I flash whatever ROM he wants on Monday ?
And what is the best rom for the cap ? I have the Eris running a GB rom that I love but I'm sure this phone is different
go to the market, download titanium backup. use that to uninstall, unwanted bloat...you cannot use the native package installer/uninstaller to remove system apps.

Tried using Astro and E Strongs both and niether worked and they are non native. I'll give TBU a try.
Tbu is the most popular app users use to remove apps. And it worked for me do I hope it can work for you

What ROM do most cap users seem to like these days that stable and quick.
stable and quick
stick with froyo based roms. especially if you have to ask
besides that,,, research research.
there is no best.

The Gingerbread ROMs are still Beta.

Thanks all. I don't think it's going to matter since when I reboot into recovery I do not have the option to "flash zip from sd card". I got it rooted, installed rom manager and flashed clockwork but to no avail. This all seemed to go so smoothly when I did our eris phones.
I have his "wireless tether" working and was able to delete a ton of ATT bloatware but I think he's going to stuck with the stock ATT 2.2 ota rom.

As you have already been told in this thread you need to make sure you have modified your 3e recovery to allow cwm to work.

Check out TRusello's signature "3e recovery fix" also after you boot into recovery from rom manager you have to "reinstall packages" twice, then you will see all the options...

you need to reinstall packages in recovery twice.
also you need the to fix 3e recovery before you can flash the cwm .zip.
look @ the stickies in the general section. there is a thread on working around 3e recovery. it contains a link to a batch script that'll fix it
there is also odin(tethered) that can replace the kernel with one that has cwm baked in
and sgs kernel flasher in the market that can do the same from the phone as long as it's rooted.
bit.ly is great...
3e fix in my sig 100 hits to-date (dirty version)
3e fix in the 3e thread 1 hit (cleaner version)

You aren't the first that I've heard of this problem. What CWM are you using? The one I posted earlier today in the superguide (VER2) or the one that was in there before?

slap, there hasnt been another recovery released that i am aware of.
ver 2 of my CWM root was only to root via CWM, it doesnt replace recovery.
This is my first htc and Im not even sure how to flash anything using fastboot. Im so used to booting into cwm recovery and flashing from that. I know there isn't a recovery already built for the vivid but if someone could point me to the right thread on how to get into the recovery Im accustomed to Im sure I could figure the rest out

Ah you are correct, my apologies. Or maybe he's using the other CWM apparently floating around that doesn't have the battery indicator issues .
But my fault, I forgot what I wrote in my own thread! imitenotbecrazy, go to the thread that Pirateghost specified, read up on everything. Also, I have written down some things just in case you have that backup issue. Try this...
- IF YOU ARE HAVING ISSUES WITH BACKING UP, pull the battery, boot back into recovery (power + vol down then select recovery) and try again. OR you may have to boot up and delete the old partial backups with a file explorer and try again. OR make sure your USB is no longer connected and try again.

install superuser app and see if root works after. and you most likely need to flash a kernel through recovery to fix the wifi

Don't listen to him ^^ WildChild's site will give you the best help there.. but you did something wrong... on his site download the instructions and follow them everything works fine.
What? Obviously he is missing the files that flashes with the kernel if it's not working and yes if he followed the guide everything would have worked

To the OP what are you trying to do? Please elaborate more. Did you flash a rom and only flashed the WCX recovery? Wildchild always provides the boot.img with his roms that need to be flashed via fastboot regardless if you are S-Off. Are you rooted? I would not flash a recovery until you can confirm root.
My HTC One is with Rogers and I had it rooted using the all in one toolkit. The last time it was running I was on the Nandroid backup as listed below which comes unrooted, but I rooted it with CWM recovery. .
Nandroid Backup: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2207874, in particular Rogers Nandroid Backup from Whampahoofus
(http://bugsylawson.com/files/file/1857-m7-cwm-nandroid-backup-cid-roger001-12963117/)
So tonight I decided to go and unroot and flash the stock recovery because there was an OTA update available but would not install due to custom recovery. I followed the same process which is restore the nandroid backup from Whampahoofus as it is by default unrooted, I restored my data from tonights nandroid backup, booted up fine and tested that I was able to use the phone as is. I then went ahead and flashed the stock recovery (which is below)
Stock Recovery : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2270552&page=3
Success, I now had stock recovery, and unrooted. I didn't relock my bootloader as I didnt feel it was necessary just to successfully install an OTA update. I went ahead and it did go through and download the OTA, it started to install the downloaded OTA and about a quarter of the way through the progress bar, it is still there. Going for the past >30 minutes now. I cant seem to reboot out of it or anything. Thankfully cause that would probably be a bad idea if it was still going.
Anyway, anyone experience this before or have suggestions?

Mine also hanged during update and required the "press power under bright light" trick. Then after reboot it hanged again (for 30-40 minutes) and i restarted it. After the second restart it rebooted successfully BUT the sdcard contents were still under /data/media instead of /data/media/0 so i rooted and moved the files manually from adb shell.
It is recommended to flash the original RUU... After that, you shouldn't face any issues during OTA... I did the similar process as you, but i was getting a red triangle on OTA update process....
I flashed RUU and everything went smoothly then.
