If you read a bit, you'll soon discover. But to make it short, i'll tell you. This phone won't have any custom roms as long as the bootloader stays locked, because it doesn't seem to be attractive for developers to make anything as long as they don't have full control. Roms could be made with 2nd init, but the kernel can't be changed and nobody managed to make proper roms with that until now. Our only chance left is that LG will unlock the bootloader, but that's very unlike to happen. So if you want custom roms, go for the OneX. If you want great hardware for a great price with the downsides (though stock software is pretty good), go for the 4X. Or wait another two months and get the Optimus Nexus, which will most likely have LG hardware combined with Google AOSP software and unlocked bootloader.

yup..the bootlader is the main problem here... because the hardware of Optimus 4XHD is really great
What is the solution to unlock the boot-loader . The O4X has similar specification to htc One X .
Please, Can someone explain that why the LG 4X has locked boot-loader and what is the best method to unlock the boot-loader ?

There's no method, unless You'll explore it by Yourself and show it to us lol
O4X wins with HOX in hardware, it've for sure better screen for example
I believe that even if there was bootloader, make a rom is very complicated and takes a lot of work, when a phone has updates of firmware within all stock applications and LG did a very good phone with software integration where all hardware works fine. I think is not very attractive build a rom.
There are already plenty of ways to customize a phone through applications like Launchers, Keyboards, Backgrounds, Status bars, Sounds ...
For now LG seems to want to continue to update the phone and the phone was last updated in December and it works perfectly, fast and smooth.
And if you want to "root" your phone you can do it very easily.
If they wont unlock b., then they need to make JB for our phone. Do we have chance to they unlock b. or JB?
I'm not the waiting type.. im gonna wait 1month.. if the JB update comes in January.. i will test it If i don't see any update before 9.febuary i'll put an order for Nexus 4.. This phone has been out for half a year.. its time something happens!!!!

Hi, I am thinking of getting the LG 2x because it comes with the bootloader already unlocked, so does it INVALIDATE YOUR WARRANTEE to flash the Rom?
Thanks.
I'd imagine so yes, but you can revert back to stock very easily.
Oh BTW, if anyone can answer tonight, I would be grateful, cos experia offer ends midnight! ;-)
Lol! - you must have posted that while i was typing! ;-)
Also, do you know if there is a Rom with HTC sense 3 for the x2??
There is no rom with sense 3 ui !!
Try for MIUI ROM it has a sense theme which gives little bit similar ui as that of htc sensation !!!!

It depends on your country LG policy whether it will invalidate your warranty or not. At best ask your local LG branch.

Hi,
I have got this LG optimus 2x from Wind, unlocked, and rooted. The thing is that I am still using 2.2, and for the longest time I have been waiting for an update, yet nothing seems to appear. I was looking around and I found this guide:
http://www.lg-phones.org/how-to-flash-lg-optimus-2x-to-android-2-3-4-gingerbread.html
To my knowledge it seems pretty legit, but the links are old, and I can no longer get the files I need to perform the upgrade. Do you guys advice me to perform such an upgrade, or should I go for custom ROMs (not a big fan)?
Any help is appreciated, thanks.
Try to search a live link in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1035041 or google it...
You can flash older version (V10) with smartflash, then use lg update tool to update it to the newest.
You can try this rom, too, it is the newest stock with minor changes http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1035041 and easily flashable through cwm.

You are on the wrong forum. LG Optimus 2X is LGP990 but the one from Wind is LGP999 (a.k.a. G2X) . Head over to the T Mobile LG G2X Forum
Just bought a 4X HD and its looking nice
Not keen on LG's overlay though but maybe it will grow on me.
Anyway it is a UK model (Unlocked, No Operator etc)
Already Upgraded to 4.1.2, software version is P880020a-234-000
Bit confused on if I can root, flash a rom etc.
Please advise
Thanks!!

ya. It is said jb is rootable. But as for 234-000 you are unlucky.
Root
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2180688
you can try og lockscreen too.
Ok thanks I am now rooted
Can I not Unlock bootloader/install custom recovery etc?
Or change to EUR rom and do it??
Thanks again!!!!
now is unlocking useless for normal users ...because no custom roms / custom kernels .
LG released the soucecode this morning. So now its only a bit of waiting before the first custom roms will be released.

So I can unlock using LG official and put CWM on now or not?
Sorry about all the Q's , EVERYother phone I have bought has had a great modding community with guides everywhere so this is a bit unusual to me

Not until you unlock your bootloader which, until they find a way to do it, can't be done in the 234-000 version.
Also, there are guides in this community, you just have to look for them (e.g. in the General Forum or the Development one). There you could have found answers for your doubts, as well as other people trying to get around the bootloader issue (there's even a thread dedicated to 234-000 users, and another for 262-000 owners).
Now we just wait my friend!

Well going by the fact that you have 234-000 You might not be able to unlock your boot loader as of yet.
There are 2 users that i know of from the UK that have unlocked their boot loader. I have tried and and tried again.
LG's Open source team have told me and a few other forum members that 234-000 and 262-000 are both unlockable.
The best bet is to wait for AGBRBK V20A... Which is the UK build of 20A.
Its just a waiting game. :good:
Hey guys,
I own both the bell version of the xperia z, and the T-Mobile version. I ONLY want to use them as glorified tablets. Basically like the Ipod touch version of the iPhone, I want to use them unactivated. For me, its all about customibility and I really want to unlock the bootloader. I know neither of these can be unlocked, but in theory, if i wrote the software of the global unlockable versions (c6602/c6603) which DO allow for unlocked bootloader, would I be able to do it? I know signal would be screwy with the radios, but i dont care since thats irrelevant to me. Any help would be great, thanks guys.

Short answer: Never going to happen.
So its impossible to write c6602/3 software to it? Longer answer would be nice : P

Sorry, you can't unlock the bootloader if a device says: "bootloader unlock allowed: no" which is if you have a branded device. If you try it, you'd better throw it away.
If u can root everything is possible. As long as there's someone who provide geeky solutions
And under your situation u don't need flash different rom as there's a way to install recovery without unlocked bootloader in rooted phone.

hey, thanks a ton for the responses guys! So, is there ANY possible way I can get cyanogenmod installed on either my c6616 or c6606? (Bell and t-mobile)w
I don't have your phones so I cannot guaranty but you can try my method.
I got a c6603 from vodafone, and use ota to update to 4.3.
Since the 4.3 cannot root and I dont want unlock bl. so I use these steps
1. downgrade phone by flashtool to a version which can be rooted.
2. root
3. install recovery in locked BL:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xpe...cked-bootloader-cwm-recovery-6-0-2-8-t2187363
4. Choose whatever rom you like and flash it.
DONE!
You cannot use custom kernels on a locked bootloader, so you cannot run CM, PA, AOSP etc.
Stock based roms only. There's no way around it.

Awesome tips guys! Got recovery working and its all good- just ONE last thing:
are there any vanilla style roms out there like cyanogen that are stock based? I just want my pure android with some nice customizable features, no kernel updates or anything. Can you suggest any?
I just bought a Moto X DE from Swappa to use on my T-Mobile and I have a couple of questions.
I'll be reading the forums so I'm sure I'll find many answers, but I know for some reason I'll just have a hard time finding some even if they are right in my face.
1) Is the 4.4.4 update out for it yet or so I need to unlock/recovery before I can get 4.4.4 I am only interested in AOSP/Google ROM's not CM, PA, or any of the others.
2) How, if at all is the DE ROM different? Or is it just the Bootloader being unlockable the only difference?
3) I am thinking of changing the White back out with a black one. I have seen the guide but my only worry is that the back may not be as tight after I do it due to having to release some of the glue. Will the back still be tight?
4) Anything else I may find interesting? Any Must know tips/tricks.

I have the DE on VZW
1) i'm not sure, but I beleive its out for Tmobile. You should not need to unlock or do anythign else as long as the device has stock OS and boot-loader
2) the roms are not different other than being designed for slightly different devices, even the Verizon Droid lines share a very similar rom with the X. That being said, do not flash any rom that is not designed for your specific build (xt1058, My DE is xt1060) Also, once you take an OTA, this device does not like to be downgraded, even tho its a DE, its not a nexus that you can just flash any OS version to.
3) I have not replaced a back yet, i cant answer this, but i would be interested in your findings, as i may replace my back some day.
4) Moto did a great job with the software on this device, The stock rom is great. Xposed is all that is needed to bring the look and feel of a custom rom.
Thanks, the only changes I plan to make is Root + maybe flash a kernel and OC the CPU to 1.9/2GHz and play with the DPI settings.
One thing, yes you do have to unlock the bootloader on the moto site. ?
I dont think 4.4.4 is out for tmobile yet. I have the gsm dev edition, haven't gotten it yet nor have i heard/seen anything about it. But it will come soon I hope!
As far as i know the only difference is the unlockable bootloader, ROM is the same otherwise.
If you're planning to root, check out xposed and gravity box.. that combo makes this phone super customizable and you don't need any custom roms ever!

Just got the device, it has 4.4.3. So it looks like I'll root before I get any farther.
