Can I fix the small scratch on my screen? - Off-topic

I got it today....its small and only noticeable when in light...I just got this phone yesterday...anything I can do to fix?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using XDA Premium HD app

No. All the products that say they will "fix" scratches are basically abrasives that wear the entire screen down to the scratches level. This is like throwing water on an oil fire. Seems like a good idea but the results aren't the intended ones.
There are only two options that actually work:
1. New device/screen.
2. Screen protector to diminish the appearance of the scratches.

Take a knife and stab your screen like your crazy. Then, call the company and tell them they shipped you a jacked up phone.

A screen protector might cover it up if it's really small.

You're going to need to throw the phone on a concrete tile, face-down. You should not be able to see the scratch anymore. If needed, repeat the procedure.

Unfortunately, no. Like other posters have said, slap a screen protector on it to diminish the scratch. Anti-reflective protectors do a good job, IMO, of hiding small blemishes, but not everyone likes how they make the screen look.

Lol! She's a severe clinical insomniac (on 15+ prescriptions from the same doctor, multiple diagnoses). She has to take some of her pills with food, and occasionally falls asleep (spontaneously passes out) while eating. So, when she wakes up sometimes, there are dishes on her nightstand. We she was handing me her dishes as I was going to the kitchen, tossed the fork, didn't realize I'd be fondling my new phone and wasn't looking.
Edit: However, she is Irish, and pissing her off is NOT a good idea, so your advice is still good.

Back Glass Cracked around speaker

I went out tonight to a movie. I put my phone in my pocket when I left the house, took it out once to put it on vibrate at the start of the movie then took it out of my pocket again when I got home. The phone was the only thing in that pocket, so it's not like it was up against my keys or anything.
The phone was intact when I put it on vibrate so while it was in my pocket at some point during the movie or the ride home is when it got cracked.
It seems that the part of the glass that's cut out for the loud speaker got pushed in enough that the glass around it gave way and shattered. I don't remember bumping it on anything or it being jostled in any way, just a typical movie and drive home...
I have insurance on it through Tmobile but I may try and call LG directly first to see if they will do anything considering I didn't drop it or really abuse it in any way that I can think of...
So let this be a warning to you if you have one, be careful about that part of the phone. Maybe be careful to put it facing screen-side-out in your pocket so the back speaker cut out can't be bumped...
The glass around the speaker grill is entirely shattered with cracks spider webbing from it to all 4 corners of the screen. The cracks going to the top are hard to see in the pictures, but their there.
Anyone have any comments or suggestions about contacting LG, or anything else about it?

That does not seem like Gorilla Glass anymore. Don't think I've ever heard of a phone just magically breaking without any kind of impact.
How the hell did that happen in a pocket? Hmm
I don't think that the backside of the phone is made from gorilla glass, only the screen. But you still should contact LG, because no way it should blow up like that.
Hope that they change it for you

I was babying this phone as much as possible, it was the only thing in that pocket and I made sure not to use it when over cement or anything in case it did fall.
But this happened while it was INSIDE my pocket, I even had to empty some of the glass shards out of my pocket when I noticed what had happened...

Haha, no skinny jeans, and it was in my front left pocket.
There was no stress at all that I can think of. When I took it out of my pocket at home to text someone the back felt rough and I thought something was on it, but when i turned it around to look I saw it all cracked. I was 100% surprised to see that considering how I had babied it all night and I didn't even use it the entire night.
There was no case because none are sold yet. When I bought it the store said they would be getting the cases (bumpers I guess) in stock next week, I was going to call them Monday to see if they had any yet, and I still will but I don't expect them to get any until mid week.

I wish I could just "not buy" it too, but it happened....
Like I said in my first post, it looks like a typical crack you would get from tempered glass when the stress point is hit, and it looks like around that speaker cut out is a stress point. The thing is, it wasn't hit, bumped, dropped, or anything else like that.
If you were the insurance company or LG I would understand not trusting me, but why do I have to gain by not telling the truth here?

I told everyone in my other post that the glass is BS because it got scratched by itself, just being in the pocket and on the table... But almost everyone laughed at my warning...

Worst element of Nexus 4 - frictionless back

Background: I owned the Nexus S, and Galaxy Nexus as daily drivers.
This is my first glass backed phone - but not until I finally removed the plastic film from it recently, did I realise how problematic it is.
In short:
DON'T LEAVE THIS PHONE ON ANY SURFACE NOT PERFECTLY LEVEL.
I mean, the slightest incline and your phone will slowly make it's way to jumping off the edge.
I had never dropped my phone in the few months since release, and the week I take off the plastic, it has hit the floor 3 times.
Once it did it over the course of a few hours in the middle of the night, from the flat night table next to the bed.
The other day, off a counter ledge in the bathroom.
Just now, from atop the microwave in the kitchen.
Each time, nothing was moving or near the phone, and it fell off seconds or minutes after putting it down. No vibration or anything occured either, which would surely expedite the falling.
If you put this phone down on a not-level surface (ie, anything that would cause a ball to roll) you can watch it ever so gradually slide and move around. I can't even put it on a short stack of 6 pieces of paper on my desk without it slipping off before long. I'm telling you these are surfaces that you wouldn't know weren't level if not for this phone treating it like an ice skating rink. Nothing has ever fallen off of them, previously.
I hate it. I wouldn't change the phone to another, but still. Frictionless glass backing SUCKS.
Oh, and luckily no cracks or damage. So far. But I've learned my lesson and now have to wall it in with other objects it can't move past.
Now i know

Whilst I recommend a case for pretty much everyone else I know, I'm careful enough to go "naked" and appreciate the phone as designed. It's just an adjustment in this case, and I don't anticipate it falling ever again.
A stupid adjustment I shouldn't have to make, but there you go.
Your physics concepts are fu**ed up,if there is no friction, the phone would be slipping away from your hands every seconds already,go back to school to study man. In your situation,it is called lesser friction.

In other news, walking on gravel without shoes hurts and standing outside when it's snowing will make you cold.
Yes, it's got a shiny back and yes, funnily this makes it more likely to slide off things.
If it bothers you, get a bumper. I did and it doesn't slide around now. I also bought shoes for the snow and that fixed my feet too.

Hahaha yeah my physics are just so CRAZY. It couldn't merely be my writing, you know: using a word that conveys the relative amount of friction, rather than scientifically correct terminology. Get over yourself.
And whilst we're at it, unless you were somehow holding the phone only by its "frictionless" back, it wouldn't slip out of your hands, now would it? Oh, the irony of your terrible post.

This. I have NEVER cracked a screen on any of my smartphones, not because they all had good build quality but because i take care with my gadgets. For example before i got my case for the Nexus 4 i would not put it down on a table without a cloth underneath.

Simple physics guys..
Glass will shatter if it hits the ground hard. Don´t forget you don´t own a simple phone anymore like a Nokia 3310 Your smartphones are actually very sensitive mini computers.
Gorilla Glass may prevent the glass from becoming scratched very easy, it will never prevent it from breaking though.
This is hard to read. I have an S2 that's I've dropped many times from hip level, no case, and the screen has yet to crack.
I definitely bought a case for this one because no matter how careful I am I can't keep my phone from dropping.

Now random cracking is an issue, but even 2 inch toughened (laminated) glass will break if it hits the ground along its edges/corners because the stress distribution is concentrated there.

I obviously agree with your first statement but why do people always have to bring up the iPhone to compare things to. How about an HTC One, or a Samsung Galaxy S4 or an LG G2? People think if an iPhone does something then we can just accept it. I would expect an iPhone to break. It is built by underage kids and is known to get damaged easily regardless of what Apple tells us.

Hardly. All I said was that it uses the same glass as pretty much every other recent phone. So if you have an issue with the quality, then that issue is with the gorilla glass, rather than the phone.
And of course some phones will shatter from small falls, that's fairly obvious.

I interpreted it as him attempting to say that he wanted to get hold of a box that was on a conveyor belt, so he lent across to reach it. It seems that when leaning over, he pushed too much of his weight on the phone, which would have been caught on the edge of the conveyor belt.

At this point in the game, pretty much every smartphone has a screen with essentially the exact same degree of durability. They're all using Gorilla glass or some equivalent. If your screen cracks, it's because of what happened to the phone. I guarantee you that any other phone would have broken in the exact same way under your circumstances.
It'll be interesting to see how sapphire screens hold up when those are mainstream in a few years.
Chalk me up as another that don't know how they cracked their screen. Mine has 1 small crack at the upper left corner and a medium one at the lower right corner, fortunately neither cross over the screen or where I'd touch. First time I've cracked a screen and don't know how it occurred thought it was just a long hair that got caught in the case at first.
I know the OP isn't the first here to have this problem. There was a few threads where people just put the phone in their pocket and pulled it out later and it was cracked. They couldn't remember anything specific that would have broken it. Also if I'm not mistaken doesn't gorilla glass just stand up better to scratches? From what I understood, it's not stronger than normal when it comes to cracks, just scratches. Which I can vouch for. Spent the whole day at work with my phone and keys in the same pocket. No scratches and even more lucky, no cracks!
Sorry to hear about your N5 though That's rough man, I would die a little on the inside.
IIFC gorilla glass is a bit more flexible when it comes to bending so it would resist cracking there a bit more than regular glass.

Samsung's Next Big Thing

Just caught a TV commercial with Samsung announcing its Next Big Thing (really, they really said that in their commercial). It's a washing machine that can also be used as a sink! Why would anyone want to use their washing machine as a sink? Will there be an app for custom water? Will it be able to be rooted? Will it run Android or Tizen? Too funny Samsung. Maybe next they can make a matching dryer. Perhaps you'll be able to use it to also dry your hair. SMH

I think they misunderstood "logic".
Actually I really like Samsung appliances, and MUCH more than their phones (which I don't really like anymore)...
Someone has clearly never done his own laundry...
The sink is there to manually wash out stubborn stains without having to run to the kitchen or bathroom all the time. The sink has a wall texture like an old-fashioned washing board for scrubbing.
Not to mention, some fabrics and clothes can't be done in a washingmachine without ruining them or the print. It's so much more convenient when you don't have to walk down three floors just to do one t-shirt, and then back up three floors again to hang it to dry with the rest. And no, not everyone can build a sink wherever they like. Some people rent.
The idea behind the washer-sink is convenience. It's not stupid, it's brilliant.
If they do make a dryer to go with it, one with a flip up clothing rack for the items that can't go in the dryer for obvious reason would be incredibly helpful.

You're absolutely correct ShadowLea, not even once. Isn't that one of the reasons we get married? So we don't have to cook, clean and do laundry? Lol

Lol, don't worry orangekid, I won't. And not to worry, my wife and I both do the cooking, cleaning and laundry. Which is why I've remained HAPPILY MARRIED for the last 30 years.

Thank you orangekid. I truly met my soul mate and wouldn't trade her for any woman in the world. In all of our years together, we've had just one argument.
I was just reading an article recently about how short marriages are these days, and I forget whether it's 10 or 15 years, which isn't bad, but still sad that people that claimed to love one another would rather divorce than try to work things out.
