I found it to be much more responsive to the pads of my fingers. Seems the harder (more calloused) finger tips have trouble getting a response. It is frustrating because I find myself double tapping out of habit now. It would be great to change the sensitivity.

yeah i always double tap and now with this laggy froyo i end up going back too far, is there a solution to make it more sensitive?
Out of curiosity I grabbed my sons phone and lifted the screen protector. The responsiveness is definitely increased without the screen protector. Arguably it is a very crappy throwaway protector but it could explain some issues. I have a skinomi skin and am not taking it off for testing purposes.
Do you happen to have a protector over your buttons?

Hey, coming from an iPad 3 my hands are thanking me for the break! You wanna talk about heavy, that thing is a monster.
sore from refreshing email for conf.
If you think this is heavy, don't dare pick up any other tablet. Your hand might fall off.

Feels nice and light to me.
Very comfortable in the hand and easy to hold.
I'm sure when I get mine later today, it will be nothing compared to my Asus Transformer.

No, it's not heavy. Go hold a Xoom for an hour, THAT is heavy.
Feels fine for me although I do have big hands.
Makes handling my One X even easier after using it.

I have pretty strong hands being a drummer and after about a 4 hours of playing this thing I do notice that my pinky is sore from holding it up. I've been using my pinkies to cradle it and its probably a bad idea.
I was caught off guard by the heft too once I received it. Its not heavy but the thing feels solid as hell. That said, I feel I need a case now cuz a drop on my stone floors would probably ruin it. The size feels perfect tho, never having used a tablet before.

I have an iPad and a Sony Tablet S, this at 340 grams will be replacing the 598 gram Sony monstrosity and hopefully make long reading sessions much much easier.
That's my thought anyway. 340 grams is also way less than my iPad's humongous and wrist breaking 652 grams.
The Nexus 7 feels heavy for its size; more than you'd expect especially considering the lack of bezel to grab on the sides.
Hey guys I just want to let you guys know my experience with the Optimus G and the Nexus 4. My situation was a bit funny as I didn't get both phones at the same time so my usage for each phone was very exclusive. I spent a week with the Optimus G (2 Optimus Gs in one week LOL) and afterwards a few days with the Nexus 4.
Optimus G Experience
I first got the Optimus G because the Nexus 4 wasn't available and I really liked the look of the phone, it was sleek and the buttons were really great to press. LG put some effort into their UI and it had some pretty great features like the multi-window and the quickmemo note taker.
I would've kept it but there were some funky problems/bugs with touchscreen responsiveness. I don't think it was an issue with sensitivity but I think it was the way some of the UI elements were designed. Typing was fine but when navigating and swiping, you weirdly lose a swipe or two. Enough to be annoying. There was one point where the touchscreen stopped responding completely to my touch. That was weird. I don't know if it was a static charge thing cause I was wiping the phone down quite a bit and plastic was all over it, or a defective touch screen but after doing a recovery using the KDZ LG update thing, it fixed itself. Needless to say that freaked me out so I went and returned the device and got an exchange. The second device never had that issue but it still had the issue with missing a swipe here and there. The great thing though was the performance in games. It gave me a consistent experience through NFS: Most Wanted and other intensive games. The screen was also damn great.
The visual design of the Optimus G is awesome. It looks awesome and premium. Doesn't feel too awesome though, it actually sorta feels gross. Everything about the phone was glossy, therefore oils would totally cling to it and cause a really slippery, gross feeling phone unless you wiped it down every hour or so. The buttons were pretty darn good to press and felt solid. The phone was thin but that caused me to feel the back a bit too much and usually the back was really warm. So the whole holding experience of the phone is warm, oily, and smudgy. My hand is usually dry but the phone still oiled up like a sumo wrestler. Sounds great doesn't it?
In conclusion with the Optimus G, looked good, performed great, but its UI hampered the usage, the lack of users prevented a large following thus reducing development, and the holding experience of the phone was really bad. In the end, I did return the Optimus G.
Nexus 4 Experience
I managed to get my hands on a Nexus 4 a couple days after returning the Optimus G. Was extermely excited to use it. The one I got was defect free it seems with no yellow tint. After the Optimus G however, the design of it was a bit weird with the curved glass and it was definitely bulkier than the OG. Using it for a couple days here's what I noticed:
Man that stock android experience is just too smooth and there is really nothing that can compare to untouched Jellybean. It was just really responsive when tapping and swiping. So I couldn't fault the OS here, despite the lack of built in features such as multi-window (Q-slide in Optimus G) but there's probably an app for that. 4.2 does have its share of bugs though but nothing too crazy.
Visually the phone looks good but again, I did not like the curved glass that much as it sorta promotes scratching on the edges as screen protectors usually can't cover it properly. At first I didn't like the wider and a bit bulkier Nexus 4 compared to the Optimus G but after using it, the phone feels REALLY good holding it. The soft touch plastic was thick enough and curved in a way that the hand was not always on the back of the glass and allowed the hand a bit of breathing room so that it wouldn't get too warm. The soft touch plastic is not oil prone so you don't feel as icky. So the holding experience was great. The buttons on the other hand is a different story and I wish it had the same clicky feeling of the Optimus G but I don't think it's that big of a deal.
The performance of the phone was good but not quite as good as the Optimus G due to, yes, throttling. Although I like to have my phone as stock as possible and performing properly out of the box, I know the community for the phone will help it in the long run as it is a Nexus device and work out some of the issues.
In conclusion, the Nexus 4 has great software, great community, and feels great in the hand. The things I wish it did better are: buttons, some performance issues, and hopefully the edges of the screen won't scratch in the future. Otherwise it's a great phone that I think I'll be keeping.
That's a nice write up, thanks for sharing.
Rik.

Hi guys, as you guys all know, those 3 phones I mentioned all have IPS technology for the display.
And as far as I know, the nexus 4 screen sensitivity isn't that great compare to other devices such as my Nexus 10. I could use the back of my finger, which is the nail, to navigate the screen while on the nexus 4, I have to really "touch" the screen. what that means is when I touch it light enough that I can feel the screen, the nexus 4 still won't recognize it until i press it a bit further. :silly:
I've been told this is related to the hardware of the IPS itself? :silly: but i'm not so sure since there's a mod to increase screen responsiveness. I tried it and it works, but the delayed when booting really bugged me .
So anyone with an Optimus G or an iPhone 5? how is the screen sensitive to you guys? can you touch the screen light enough that you can feel the screen but the Nexus won't feel your finger?
If it's more responsive then can we somehow pull the touch driver from the Optimus G to our Nexus 4?
I have Iphone 5 and I never have to put any pressure on the screen for it to work. I barley tap the screen... Even though I havent had a nexus 4, I've had galaxy s3 and I can say iphone 5 screen is more sensitive than s3 screen
None of these phone can recognize the nail finger.

hmm.. well that's even more interesting because s3 uses super-amoled. which I assumed to be more sensitive since my HTC one S is more sensitive than my nexus.. and if iphone 5 screen is really sensitive with IPS how come our nexus 4 sensitivity is so bad? really hope google would fix this..

The display technology doesn't matter here. It's the digitizer that makes the difference.
From my experience, when you just tap the screen on the nexus 4, you have to press quite "hard" to get it to register the touch.
If you start swiping around, even the lightest pressure will be enough. Even the fingernail works if you do it that way.

did you try it on yours? mine doesn't respond to my fingernail lol :silly: so is there any differences in sensitivity between Optimus G and Nexus 4? do they use different digitizer then? both are manufactured by LG and very similar in terms of hardware wise Any Optimus G owner out there? or had a hands on experiences with Optimus G?
My nexus 4 is very sensitive to touch, I barely need to touch the screen (just float over it) and can use it with the back of my fingers (fingernails). It's been much more sensitive to touch than my Galaxy Nexus ever was.
My N4 is one of the latest batch, maybe improved? I don't know but it's been faultless so far. Also find the screen has nice rich colours almost on a par with the GN, haven't noticed any washed out effect like some state, same goes to my friend who bought one at the same time (1 month ago).
I'm on unrooted stock btw, tried a few custom roms, but find stock better for me (at the moment).

I highly doubt it. I got one of the newer models (301k) and my screen sensitivity is awful. Yes if you press it normally most of the time it will work but if you a very light it isn't sensitive at all not compared to my one s. That being said I flashed the old touch driver back (e015) and my nexus 4 is as sensitive as an iphone now. Had the driver for about 2 weeks and I would never go back to the current touch driver that comes with 4.2.2 (e027) Hopefully google fix this but I'm doubtful. The people that say they have amazing sensitivity imo are speaking out of their backsides. They haven't made the devices any different, the screen sensitivity is a SOFTWARE issue and not a hardware issue. This is a link to old touch driver thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2163924 It's like a different device!

are you sure its not ur knuckle and just the finger nail? It should, according to design, not register hard things such as finger nails. (unless you have keratin deficiency in which case ur nails might be as soft as skin)

as far as i know, there isn't a single touchscreen device on the market (past or present) that will register the fingernail itself.
that said, my Nex4 is from the second batch and is quite sensitive to the touch. some of the touch responsiveness issues could be due to a screen protector too.

are you sure? last time i checked it didn't work with just the fingernail (no skin). that would be like using an old stylus from a windows phone 5.5/6 device (resistive screen) on a capacitive screen. i highly doubt that works.
Funny thing that I was so disturbed about was how badly insensitive the nexus 4 was compared to my i9300 (gs3). I could use my fingernail and the lightest touch to swipe the screen with the s3. So these things are possible.
I also flashed the kernel months ago and it improved things slightly, but nowhere near what I'm used to. Only problem with that is how much longer it takes to boot and be responsive. Same with TWRP...you have to wait a while to use the device.
When my phone is laying flat on a table the touch sensitivity is very poor, at least around the edges. I can't pull down the notification bar and the nav bar is near unresponsive. It almost feels like it's some sort of feature to prevent accidental touches, if you know what I mean. Has anyone else experienced this? There is no issue when holding it normally in my hand.

Yeah, not really much of a concern for me either. Just curious if others had experienced it or if anyone knew why it happened. Interesting idea with the skip/wallet setup.

Yes, actually. I have the thick shock protection sold on the Motorola site. I have been meaning to test it without but have been waiting to get a new protector to replace it however. I really don't like this protector and hope the touch sensitivity gets better once it's gone. I have just been lazy in looking for a new one.
I cannot detect any loss in sensitivity when my phone is laying on my desk. I am not using a screen protector at all.

No problems pulling down the notification bar? Also can you try installing the following app and drawing lines from the center of the screen all the way up to the top of the screen? Does the line go all the way up or does it end slightly before the edge of the touchscreen?

Yep noticed this as well. Mainly on the home button. Back and recents seem responsive enough, but if it's laying on my desk or floor, home is almost non-existent. Gets to be pretty frustrating.

It's funny because usually I sit it flat while I am on the couch - must be the soft surface and the curved back which means it works fine, but you're right on the hard table surface it's noticeable.
