Motofail2Go: Atrix HD root exploit - Motorola Atrix HD

Despite my strong belief that people who are interested in rooting should buy devices with unlocked bootloaders instead of expecting the magical hackers in the sky to give out free exploits (which are in short supply), I'm once again continuing to encourage bad behavior by publishing another root exploit:
http://vulnfactory.org/public/motofail2go_windows.zip
Instructions:
1. Download and extract the entire zip file.
2. Ensure your device is connected via USB and that you have installed the latest ADB drivers from Motorola.
3. Double-click "run.bat" and FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS. The exploit will ask you to press a button combination at one point.
If the exploit prints an error saying something like "run-as: Package 'com.motorola.bug2go' is unknown", then unfortunately you will have to wipe your data and cache partitions and try again.
This exploit should work on the Razr M, Atrix HD, Photon Q, Razr i (you might need to replace some of the binaries with x86 versions?), and the upcoming Razr HD.

If you received the error message I described in the instructions, then there is no way it could have worked during that attempt. You'll need to wipe data/cache and try again.

Hi guys,
I know you can't wait to get the OTA 4.4 update for your Nexus 4 phones but we don't have to wait anymore because Google already released the ROM for our phones! I got my Nexus 4 updated to 4.4 without installing any custom recovery images trough this tutorial.
1. Make sure your Nexus 4 bootloader is unlocked. Unlocking your bootloader will wipe all the data from your phone, so make a backup before doing this! Bootloader unlocking steps:
1.1 Make sure you got the latest Google USB driver on your computer. If not, download and install it from this official link.
1.2. Boot your phone in fastboot mode by holding - Volume down and Power buttons at the same time.
1.3. While your phone is booted in fastboot mode, connect the phone to your computer and open fastboot command prompt window, then type "fastboot oem unlock" and follow the instructions on your phone and then restart it in fastboot mode.
2. Download the official 4.4 ROM image from Google Developers website and wait the download to finish.
3. Extract occam-krt16s-factory-2006f418.tgz file and extract the extracted occam-krt16s-factory-2006f418.tar and you should have a folder named "occam-krt16s" which contains the official 4.4 ROM we want to flash.
4. Connect your phone to your computer in fastboot mode and open with Notepad the file named "flash-all.bat" and remove the -w command from the batch file if you don't want to wipe all data from your phone, else start the batch without any editing and wait the process to finish...
and voila, you should have your phone booting up the latest Android KitKat 4.4 version which takes couple minutes at the first time booting. After that, enjoy!
Let me know if you need any help around this.
Hit the thanks button if you like my simple, yet useful tutorial.
Easy clear steps thanks +1

Unlocking bootloader is gonna wipe all your data. And flash-all.bat is gonna wipe it too if you don't edit it. It's a nice thread but there are already many threads for flashing factory images.

Locking and unlocking didn't do the trick.
Also factory resetting through original recovery didn't work.
Any suggestions? I did it without a SIM-Card. Maybe it needs one to boot up?

You cannot lose your data or OS by flashing a recovery. However if you do it incorrectly or use the wrong process to flash the recovery, you can brick your phone. And if you bricked it, you may have to flash a new stock ROM to unbrick. That may cause you to lose your data.
So as always, BACK UP YOUR OS AND YOUR DATA before you mess with your phone! I can't tell you how many people I read about who fail to backup their phone and then they mess with it not really knowing what they are doing and end up losing everything because they've bricked their phone and have NO BACKUP!
Don't risk your data. Back it up NOW. Then you can mess with your phone freely and without worry.

Where's the. Zip file download link?
An app that tends to work on almost all lollipop based devices is the KINGROOT app........
Just google it and download it....
Your phone may reboot during the root process but thanks to lollipop's ram feature your unclosed apps stay unclosed nd in the memory even after rebooting......
so carry on with the process after reboot(if it occurs)
I've rooted many stubborn devices with it

[Q] How can I update to Lollipop 5.1 if my device is already rooted?

Hello
Excuse me but I'm a newbie to all of this. I have found tons of posts here to help me with whatever I need but now I can't seem to find a way to update to 5.1
I tried the OTA but it didn't work since my device is already rooted although I am still running 5.0.1.
I tried sideloading it but it didn't work and I read a few posts that it won't work anymore since I rooted already.
So what's left to do? Flash image? If so, can someone point me in the right direction? Didn't any new posts regarding 5.1 image flashing and I really don't wanna risk doing anything stupid. Also, I read that there's a way through which I can bypass losing all my data?
Thanks in advance!

you can just flash a 5.1 rooted rom, just like before 5.1. thats the easiest way around. you can flash the factory img as well, then reroot.
Download the Google factory image here: https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
Extract the system.img and boot.img then fastboot flash them. Read general > all in one guide > question 28 for fastboot.
Once flashed, boot straight into twrp recovery and flash SuperSU. Zip to root.
Edit.. Or if you want, you can download a pre-rooted ROM.zip and just flash that from twrp recovery

no advice, flash whatever you like. but ill warn you ROM Manager is an ancient app that WILL cause you issues. what you should do iz boot into twrp recovery, flash whatever, then reboot. thats how you flash. remember my words, rom manager WILL cause you iasues.
Just flashing a rooted rom will not install the newest bootloader and modem/radio. So I wouldn't recommend that....
But either way works if all you want to do is get on 5.1 without updating the bootloader and modem/radio

Your going to have to Odin back to stock NE4, then ota up from their.
If you have/want root then follow this thread....

I was under the impression I lost my root because I accidentally updated and my SU access would not work anymore.

Not a good idea to take OTA updates if your rooted....usually breaks root. The reason it won't update now is due to the fact you were rooted...even if you loose/unroot it still detects traces and the update fails. The only way to OTA now will be to use odin to flash back to stock NE4.
I see from the photo your on NG3 so you can reroot and go from their.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2799754
This and the thread I posted above should have all the info/files you need to get to rooted 5.0.
I appreciate it greatly. I will be taking on that endeavor later on today.

Ignorance would be not reading or asking anything until after you brick the phone :sly:
Nothing wrong with asking legit questions, that's what it's all here for:thumbup:
Since your on NG3 now my advice would be to use odin and flash the ne4 stock kernel...then you can use towelroot again...reinstall supersu...then again in odin flash back to the NG3 stock kernel. This will put you on NG3 with root. From their you can follow that top thread and it will put you on stock rooted 5.0.
Edit: Here is another thread for you...OP has all the steps to walk you through rerooting. Just skip the first step about taking the ota and go from their.

Flashing the kernels to root shouldn't delete any data, but the jump to 5.0 will. I'd strongly recommend backing up first just to be safe.

I'm pretty sure it's already backed up to my Gmail, but I'll do a manual onto my computer. Now I am debating on just flashing to keep my root cause I don't want to go to 5 and I lose it again.

When your done, just make sure to freeze the Att software update app with titanium or similar, that will kill OTA so you don't have to worry about them sneaking an update in.

I need a refresher on the terminology again, like sideload and OT4 or what ever. Lol where do you suggest I glance through.

This one is a general guide for the g900a...not quite the same as the active, but the terminology still applies.
Just Google "guide to android terminology" and you'll end up with more info than you ever wanted! :sly:

Is there a way to back up my phone 100% before I go ahead and try rerooting?

So good news, I re-rooted after a couple hours of research and I am rooted on 4.4.2. Now all I have to do is flash up to 5.0?

Yes, as long as you have root you can flash straight to rooted 5.0.

And flashing 5.0 is the SAME process? Lol if so I will be okay. Do you suggest any other root apps? I had flashify, but I was nervous and deleted it before I go stuck in a boot loop. Lmfao

Just follow the steps in the op and you'll be fine.
You'll need FlashFire, and I'd recommend TiBu...Good for freezing/removing bloat and backing up app data.

No problem bro. Glad to help.
I can confirm Magisk v12 works flawlessly
I am currently running this rom and am planning on leaving metropcs since it seemed someone may have ruined their network. I paid for the 60 dollar a month plan and I cant even get close to a single megabit download speed. Is there any way someone could post or attatch a twrp backup of the modem? I tried to flash the stock modem from the stock firmware but I dont have a computer right now and accidentally erased my modem.

Install flashfire, you can do all that with the stock firmware package. No PC required. It's a godsend

I tried that but it failed miserably. I also tried to dd if=modem.bin of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p14 (modem.bin from the csc file) in android and the twrp terminal. No luck! I remember a twrp backup of a working modem took care of the problem but I accidentally deleted it and dont have the proper technology to run testdisk or foremost on the internal memory to try and restore the radio.emmc.win.

nope. I also tried reflashing the stock firmware. Fails at boot loader. m2kefs /dev/block/mmcblk0p14. Now all I got is a tablet. Won't function at all with the modem in place.

Let me create a nand for you and upload it to mega. You still have access to TWRP?

I was finally able to resolve my situation. Thinking back.. I thought maybe I just accidentally turned my radio off but I actually hard bricked my phone because I had to format the modem partition for the phone to even function properly over WiFi. Perhaps if anyone else has that problem the new firmware posted on mega.nz will have the proper modem driver for hw rev 05. If not then this phone could have a factory limitation to stop people from developing their own open source Android Rom for the device. A defect I would call it in this case. Although I haven't been able to verify it because I have no reason to corrupt my modem and then try flashing the new firmware.

Fantastic bro. Such a rewarding feeling when you figure stuff out. So my firmware helped, or was it another package you found?
I have a J700T1 MetroPCS device. I have been pulling my hair out and studying day and night to run XModGames on my phone. (XMG "XModGames is a modding app for rooted phones to alter games) I have done this before on other phones. I have tried flashing a permissive kernel, and once it was permissive XMG would still give an error. I have installed BusyBox, deleted app data, changed XMG to system app through LuckyPatcher... Restarted and flash my phone several times! Just trying to figure this out... Can anyone give some ideas? I'm testing this ROM Deodex & Deknox but it stayed in T-Mobile boot screen for 30 minutes. I'm about to flash stock again.
