Just an FYI. Blestol has it inverted in post #6
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1934434
I was able to successfully install this on my friends Thunderbolt that is running the ICS leak.
Steps as follows;
1) Use root explorer/or similar to re-name the existing Gmail.apk to Gmail.apk.bak
2) Push either Gmail2.apk (normal) or Gmail4.2-signed-aligned.apk (inverted) to the /system/app
3) Re-named it to Gmail.apk
4) Boot into recovery and wipe cache, dalvik cache, and run fix permissions
5) Reboot the phone and profit.
The first time the app is run it may take a few minutes to load, please be patient.

I just tried both on the computer and they work. I have not tried them using the phone broswer or tapatalk app.
Hmmm... I wonder if my adblocker is shutting it down.

Just an FYI. I'm on JB 4.1.1 and this app seems to break some of the Google Now functionality. Specifically the 'note to self' voice action.

I don't think we have to worry. Google now isn't quite fully functional for the Thunderbolt or the Rezound.

.894 keeps trying to update to my device and fails because of forever root. I know I don't want to update, but I need to find a way to stop this notification from popping up. Does anyone know a way short of unrooting and letting it update?

If you want to keep root, I wouldn't. But if you really need to, take mount_ext3.sh and remove the lines of code forever root added.
Delete the files from the cache folder.

I think you need to use root explorer to be abler to see them there is two files in the cache folksy you will need to remove, both saying something about .894, I had the same issue with .893, removed those files and it stop annoying me.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using xda premium
Ok, found an .apk in there that I deleted. The inly other file was what looked to be a log from .893
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using XDA App
I deleted it and it is still trying to update.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using XDA App
Reboot after you delete it.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using xda premium
You need to open root explorer and then go to /system/etc/security rename the file otacerts.zip to otacerts.zip.bak and then reboot your phone and that should do it. Hope this helps
If your stock .893 not rooted what does .894 do for you

Kill your root, that's all it was released for
If your not rooted it probably closes the exploit

Didn't work. Still trying to update. I don't think it ever installed it, it keeps trying to download it. Looks like I may have to sacrifice root. Any other ideas?

Titanium backup and freeze updater. Defrost when you need it.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk
It comes up as download of update failed. It is annoying because it will break into tasks. Say you are shooting a video, it will pop in and stop the recording.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using XDA App
Did you delete both files related to .894 in the /cache folder?
The only things in /cache is downloadfile.apk, lost and found and a folder names recovery that has a logfile in it. I tried deleting downloadfile.apk several times and it keeps coming back.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using XDA App
That apk shouldn't be there. At least I don't have that. Try renaming it to .bak on the end and rebooting.

I checked for downloadfile.apk and it stayed gone this time. It still tries to update. Will probably come back after reboot.

I've been getting force closes after almost every run.
I haven't... are you running ICS?
Sent from my DROID3 using Tapatalk
Yup. Haven't updated in a while though. What ROM are you on?
Sent from my XT862 using xda premium
AndroWiz, CM7 based rom.
Sent from my DROID3 using Tapatalk
Hm. Maybe it has to do with the HW Accelerated graphics not working on CM9. Can anyone else on CM9 confirm force closes?
Sent from my XT862 using xda premium
I don't think its ICS. Works fine for me running Gummy
Must be me then. I'll try flashing gummy and give it a shot.
EDIT: Flashed Gummy and I still got a force close. Didn't get a chance to test extensively because I have a Calc 2 test tomorrow morning, but it FC'd with the first 5 minutes.
I installed this on my MIUI rom based of Hashcodes's CM9 and it fc after first game/ when I click replay.

Now I'm really confused. When I installed Gummy, I did so after a clean wipe: /system, cache, delvik, data/factory reset and it still force closed. Hopefully the company that made it will release a patch soon.
I checked system/apps and they are not there but how come they still in the app drawer.... do i have to delete somewhere else as well?

Deleting the APK in the /system/app location doesn't delete the app only the APK file which allows the system to load it during the bootup processes. You must use Titanium Backup to delete or freeze a app that the stock system loads up. Also you must be rooted in order to use Titanium Backup.
Question... If I freeze them can I update via ota down the road... I just tried to update to .905 and it could because I deleted apk
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk 2
nope you would have to unfreeze those apps to update when a OTA comes around
If you already rebooted then maybe it is under data/app as well.
Thought I would share this. My apologies if it has already been posted. I came across this a few minutes ago. This is a link to download a flashable zip to install the stock jb (4.1) apps on any device running ics.
Follow the instructions on the page and take a look at the updated apps for jb!

try mounting system in recovery first, then flash it. I'm not using safestrap right now so I unzipped the file and manually copy and posted what was inside and it worked fine.

I did this with both mount/System and flash along with copy and paste. This did work for everything except for Gmail and Facelock. I completely lost the Gmail app and the facelock option when trying both ways.
I am not sure what I will try next. Going to have to noodle it a bit. Really like the magazine apk!
Yeah I had that same problem with Gmail. Didn't try the face unlock though. Magazines is pretty cool, but I'm loving the sound search widget. Better than shazam and soundhound

Did not coping the gmail apk over work for you?
No, it would show in /system/app but not in my app drawer. The other weird thing that happened is after I got the jb versions running, the ones that came stock on the bionic "updated" to their "current" versions. Had to disable auto update to keep them.

This recovery is an older port. For a source build version see this thread
UNOFFICIAL CWM 6.0.1.2 non-touch
NOTICE: I am not responsible for your device!
NOTE: This CWM was ported from VZW SGS3
I have successfully ported CWM to our device. It is NOT an official release, nor is it built from source.. I'm still working on that one. BUT, for now, we have this. This has been tested on my device. I've successfully made a backup, wiped everything, and restored. Device is still alive
YOU MUST BE ROOTED!
How to flash:
1. Download CWM 6.0.1.2 to the root of your SD Card -- *old thread*
2. From Terminal emulator or ADB do the following:
From ADB
Code:
adb shell
su
dd if=/sdcard/recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18
reboot recovery
From Terminal
Code:
su
dd if=/sdcard/recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18
reboot recovery
Congratulations! You should now have a functional CWM recovery.
Once you got custom, NEVER accept an OTA!. Verizon released an OTA for the SCH-I705 that makes changes to recovery, boot, and aboot, THIS WILL MOST LIKELY BREAK YOUR ROOT AND UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER! DO NOT ACCEPT!
TO RETURN TO STOCK RECOVERY
Follow the same procedures above, except flash this recovery instead of the CWM recovery.
*Old thread*
Thanks to:
ruben00 - for helping me out with repacking
invisiblek - for his mkbootimg cmdline values, they worked!
Whoever built the GS3 recovery I ported.. Can't remember for the life of me.
Good work. Wish I could test.
Wonder if mobile Odin would work to flash this like on the other gt2 models.
i just tryed it. it worked perfectly. thanks.. your the man. now when i get home on Monday from the honeymoon. i will build a kernel for it. need a little more speed.

Thanks, Nexttonomy
I've been really busy and haven't had a whole lot of time this week. I've also moved most of the work to PMs between a few people.

No, VZW Tab 2 only. Only ever flash a recovery built for your device.
Just got word.. That update was nothing important. Other then. It was only for wifi pop up screen.. And data usage software.. Just more bull **** for Verizon running the battery down..

Hey guys, I'm not sure if many of you know who jt is, but he's been developing on samsung devices since the fascinate. He's done great work on both the device mentioned and the samsung galaxy tab org. If he had the galaxy tab 2 and some beer, you can bet your ass he would get some work done on it.
I'll put in 20. Anyone else down for raising some money to get this dude a device?
All do respect. These tablets around 350 bucks. And there Really not that many owners on here. So the goal would never be reached. Just hang in there. Few of us development people are working on this. Should have something with in a month.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Xparent SkyBlue Tapatalk 2
Unfortunately I don't have a lot of cash to spare. Thanksgiving, Christmas, and a wedding after that all just within three months for me. Great offer though!
However, do you think he'd mind lending a helping hand by giving us some advice/input?
Anybody got a link to the origional build released on the verizon galaxy tab 2? Need to downgrade to gain root I think.
Month came and went. Still nothing. LOL
