Hi,
First of all here are my specs...
S5830
Android: 2.3.3
Baseband: S5830XWKPA
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-perf-CL561786
[email protected]#1
Build: GINGERBREAD.XWKPY
I want to flash this rom from sammobile which I beleive should work with my phone
Model Country/Carrier Date Version PDA CSC
GT-S5830 United Kingdom / Ireland 2011 September Android 2.3.6 S5830XWKPY S5830XEUKP1
but before I do I would like to backup my existing rom in the same format as this rom so I can flash through odin.
I found this page on the wiki for backing up your rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/How_to_backup_Original_ROM but its not in the same format as the downloadable roms. Can I flash this through odin? or how can I backup my rom like the downloads from sammobile?
I just want a backup so I have something to fall back on should I need to.
Thanks
First of all. The rom you are trying flash is very old. New firmwares are more stable. Try a rom which was released this year. I wonder why you want to backup the original rom, its old. Anyway, just backup stuff using cwm, search for your current firmware of sammobile and download it. If you want to return back to original firmware, flash the firmware via odin and restorethe cwm backup.

Hi, thanks for the reply.
There is no official rom higher than 2.3.6 for this phone, I'm guna flash cyanogenmod at some point when I get a bit more time but for the time being I just wanted to flash official 2.3.6. Am I wrong in thinking the CWM needs a rooted phone to work? or will this feature run on unrooted phones?
thanks
Try the Spanish Rom XWKTQ.. And i'm sure you'll love it.. Almost Bug free and really fast..

CWM needs a rooted phone.
About the firmware. Yes the highest android version is 2.3.6, but new firmwares have more features and more stable. Flash XWKTQ.

thanks for that

Just 1 quick question, just want to double check, aslong as its XW*** or another uk rom can I just flash it, because i was under the impression you cant flash roms from other countries unless its rooted?

If your phone is operator specific then flashing rom from different countries might cause problems. If your phone is unlocked and you can use it with any operator then no problem. You can flash any rom.
reply
ah ok, mine is on o2 uk but it was bought from phones4u so it should already be unlocked, so thats good to know. There doesnt seem to be any o2 branding on the phone so i'll have a play when I get sum spare.
cheers
But still, just try using a sim from some other operator and see if it works. If it doesnt, your phone is operator specific.
yeah, will do,
thanks

Hi guys,
After messing around with kernels and getting a non responding P1000, I managed to install from Samfirmware, what i believe is stock Gingerbread (Europe).
Everything looks and works fine, but I just want some reassurance that I've downloaded/installed it correctly.
My system details are:
PDA: P1000XXJQ1
PHONE: P1000XXJPZ
CSC: P1000OXAJQ1
Firmware version: 2.3.3
Baseband version: P1000XXJPZ
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7 [email protected] #2
Build number: GINGERBREAD.XXJQ1
The only reason I want reassurance is when I connect the tab to Kies, the message "this version cannot be updated" displays.
Is it the fact that this is the latest firmware, and therefore no more updates is available?
Thank you in advance and would be much appreciated and reassuring to get an answer for all you kind people.
If you have a tab that was bought throughg a specific carrier then Kies might not be able to update the firmware.
I have a GTab from Telstra in Australia and using the stock firmware I also get this message. All flashing must be done by either ODIN or HEIMDALL. CWM works so long as I don't need to restock anything....
If you do decide to change roms, make sure you check to see if the bootloaders aren't locked as some of the firmware from samfirmware were found to be resulting in problems...
Cheers...
I had exactly the same message from Kies when I tried to revert back to a stock Gingerbread rom. It seems that there isn't an official Samsung release of GB for Tab P1000 in the UK (if that's where you are) so it doesn't recognise it.
Only way I could get it to detect an official release was with a Froyo ROM.
The JQ1 was released not to Europe, but to Italy.

Yes that's right. Im in the UK. So from what i understand, only way to fully revert back and install Official gingerbread is by reverting than earlier froyo firmware and then connecting Kies thks way, then have it detect and install the newly released gingerbread?

Hi there, yeah i kinda thought the firmware i installed was the Italian release, as the date in Firmware was May, not July when the.official gingerbread was released.
Yep, that's how I understand it. However I probably will not even bother with Samsungs UK GB release as there are much better 3rd party GB options out there already. I'm running BOCA 1.5 and it is so fast - it dosn't have any Samsung apps or TouchWiz, but I haven't missed them.

Ha! Just found the XDA app, makes posting and browsing on here so much easier.
Yeah i would have thought 3rd party options would be better running as they'll omit all the bloatware that comes with the official release. I was just thinking more about the option for the future should i have any reason at all to revert back to legit stock.
There's so many recommendation on which custom Rom to install, i think I'll have to spend some time going through the forums to understand which one will be best for me.
For now, Im gonna stick with this working GB (albeit Italy release) as for now it works and I've not had any problems with doing what i want out of it.

The lastest gb released isn't UK, its for Orange Spain.
Hi Friends,
I see that the ICS Update will arrive sometime between may/june. i have a rooted Galaxy note using this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360
i just wonder when the time comes do i have to unroot to update or can i just update.. im new at this android world so i would appreciate any help i can get, thanks
Dont worry, sure you will get update to ICS
But how you have to update this can mentioned only after release of ICS, And yes it take few hrs to know just after release of ICS, you need is to just stay tuned here.
Just remember i said above in term of keeping your root intact. If you dont want to keep root, just you can flash Stock ROM of your country anytime, N just update ICS over Kies whenever it release over Kies.
Hi,
I have similar question. Previously I had a KK5 rom before I gave my note to Samsung in warranty for screen replacement. They flashed XLA4 rom and CSC is also changed now to JPLA1. Now KIES says it cannot upgrade my ROM. My question is: is it still possible to receive OTA updates (including ICS when it is available). Please note that my phone is not rooted. Thanks in advance.
To get update with Kies/OTA
your device should have installed ROM from your region, as well CSC should also be same as your region
Check CSC with *#272*IMEI#
Remember, changing CSC will wipe off data.
Sorry to bother you again. using *#272*IMEI# shows JED (which is correct for Saudi Arabia). There are other options to choose from e.g. KSA (which I think is also for Saudi Arabia but I don't know). Do you think changing will solve the problem? And is there any other danger (other than wiping the data) with changing the CSC? Thanks again.
Nothing more thn data wipe happen after changing csc.
Your installed rom shud b same for your region as csc.
If your rom is older for region, kies will show msg, you have update. If your rom is latest for this region, kies will msg you have latest firmware.
In other condition kies won't recognise your rom n won't allow to update.

Sure, when updating to stock you will lose the root, so you dont need to worry about that...You can look around and there are ways to flashing to next version if you want to mantain the root, tools like mobile odin can help you with that..... but i do recommend you to take a look arround the forum, you like me probably end up using custom roms
Regards

Well, i have a S5830L in Colombia with Android 2.3.4 stock rom. I've tried to update to 2.3.6 via OTA and Kies, both ways told me the same: "This is the most recent firmware".
In Samfirmware.com i've found that the last firmware is Android 2.3.6.
Exactly, the question is: What is the reason of unavailability of an Update Via OTA / Kies? Do i have to install "Manually" the rom?
Thanks in advance

Updates are made available for different regions at different times because of carriers taking their time to adjust the new version to their own branded roms. Some carriers don't even release updated versions for old devices.
You can go ahead and manually install any 2.3.6 firmware with odin if your carrier didn't provide updates (i recommend the spanish KTM, works great with 5830L), just use titanium backup to backup apps and data (because odin will wipe everything on your phone).

But aren't ROMs for GT-S5830 only for that phone...
L version of ace has different frequency than "no L" version so if you don't flash a firmware for L, 3G wont work and some other things like that...
I recommend you to download UBKPL which is the latest version for ace L

From personal experience (i own 5830L). Flashed spanish ktm as soon as it got out, i was ready to flash the latin telcel modem and guess what? Didn't need to! Everything was working great: calls, sms, wifi, 3g.
5830L and 5830 are the same phone with different frequencies. If flashing a 5830 rom gives trouble with connectivity, just flash a latin modem.

hello,
i got a question, I wonder why my s3 is still on android 4.1.1. I cant update via kies or ota, it just says i already got the latest version. Does it have something to do with my provider (proximus) or the fact that I have the 4G version, that I seem unable to update to 4.1.2? also, i never rooted my phone and im not planning on rooting it either.
thanks

I can't see any firmware from proximus on sammobiles, so there is a chance that it has not been updated for them, if you want 4.1.2 I would download the latest unbranded rom for the i9305 (be 100% sure that the model number is correct) you can then proceed to flash this via Odin, you will not need to be rooted and it will not affect the binary counter.
I suggest the unbranded rom because that comes straight from Samsung, and contains no carrier bloatware.
Next time please post your questions in the Q&A section, as it's against the rules to post questions in general discussion, I will report the thread and ask for it to be moved to Q&A for you

Sry but you didn't read it right and it was not a Samsung statement (just a rumor), for now we wait for 4.2.2 or 4.3 on S3 and only in like 4-8 weeks at least.

I would really prefer to not do anything with my phone, I tried rooting and custom rom and all that stuff on my transformer prime tablet and that didn't end good at all, so I really dont want to ruin my S3, as I have no idea what unbranded and Odin and carrier bloatware is... And sorry for the wrong section
Also when I look on this sammobile site for firmwares, I do not see my PDA number. My Baseband version is I9305XXALJ2 and buildnumber JR003C.I9305XXALJ3. I do not see those numbers anywhere on the site, and since you said I had to be absolutely sure I have the firmware with the right number, there is no firmware for my device or..?
latest is 4.1.2 on sammobile .
Updates Kies OTA are via your vendor . They may choose not to update .

The roms on Sammobile are completely stock, but if you have a carrier branded rom, and they haven't updated you to 4.1.2, and you don't want to mess around there isn't much you can do except wait.
But if you have the I9305 you can flash any I9305 rom.
Odin is a program leaked from Samsung it's what they use to flash test devices at the factory, unbranded is just a rom that has come from the manufacturer rather than carrier, and contains no carrier based boot animations or apps etc. Bloatware is unnecessary system apps (for most people) some examples are apps from your carrier.

Man, just download generic (not branded ROM) for your region and flash it via Odin 3.0.7. It takes about 5-6 minutes to flash and you'll be OK afterwards...
I never use branded fw. Every time I buy a new phone, put it to download mode right out of box and flash generic ROM.

well yes I checked for update today and there it was, 4.1.2, but not really happy about the update.. scrolling trough my text messages has gotten really slow and laggy and the gallerybis not really smooth anymore either, takes a few seconda before its ready.. ah well, on to 4.2.2!
Hello guys, i will explain the story in order, sorry for my bad Grammar.
first i have the official GTI9070 but i forgot the baseband (GB)
then i accept software update that appear in notification bar, my baseband become I9070DXLK2 (GB)
and i see there's CM11 out that can make kit kat running in I9070.
but it requires root to install CMW / TWRP..
so hard to find root zip for DXLK2, and then i found one full ROM rooted then flash it with odin.
my baseband still I9070 (GB) but rooted (binary counter++)
after that i flash TWRP with odin too.
then i try flashing CM11 with TWRP.
it success, but no mobile network.
i search at this forum and someone say "no mobile network happen because flashing from GB (2.3.x) directly to KK (4.4.x)"
he said first update from GB to official samsung JB.
the problem, there's no official samsung JB update for my country/region (DXLK2)
my question, if i flash the official samsung JB update from other region.. let say it italy.. will my baseband change?
if it changed, what's the problem and whats the negative impact? what should i do better?
thx in advance.
PS: my device is Samsung Galaxy S Advance GT-I9070 (Indonesian)

You don't have any negative impact if you flash any stock JB firmware, only with your warranty if you still have one.
Please, follow this guide from point A (JELLYBEANIZATION): [GUIDE] From stock GB to Custom JB (Noob-friendly)
After you updgraded to JB, ask/read some tutorials linked here: [{INDEX of GUIDES/TUTORIALS}] Galaxy S Advance [GT-I9070].
Be sure when you proceed to do something OR ASK before, NOT AFTER you doing something wrong.

Or maybe removed. Try on samsung-updates.com or sammobile.com
In Canada, have XXLK2 (Africa?). Want JB, use UK version?
I bought my unlocked I9070 almost 2 years ago and am thinking about upgrading to Android 4.1.2 (JB).
On samsung-updates there appear to be lots of JB versions for different regions.
Can I just select the one for Britain (XXLQE)? Is there anything I need to check re: compatibility?

I had a lot of trouble trying to get the samsung-updates.com download to work (used the free one, which either didn't start most of the time or died during download). Eventually, I took the filename (for Britain) and Googled it, and found a download site that let me download it (required 3 hours).
Armed with the .zip file and ODLIN, it worked like a charm. All my installed apps and data survived, which surprised me. I thought this would be a vanilla install.
