I have a DROID X2 right now and the development community is a lot slower than a lot of other phones due to the lack of an unlocked bootloader. I'm highly considering buying an OG DROID from someone on craigslist and ROMing, Theming, Overclocking, and undervolting the hell out of it. I used to have a samsung fascinate back in the day and i could do just about anything with that phone since the bootloader was totally unlocked. I just wonder if the OG Droid is worth buying and replacing the DROID X2 that I have now.
What do you guys think? Is it worth the $75 OBO?

I got my OG droid recently with dock and 2 chargers for less than $50.
DROID X2 is droid 2, or is something diffrent ?
Droid 2 is only single core.
X2 is dual core tegra.
Droid x is more close to droid 2 but with larger screen and no physical keyboard and 8mp cam instead of 5.
X2 is different beast all together.

You have a Droid X2 and want to get a Droid? I can't think why.
OK, we all like modding, theming, etc, but you have a little beast with Dual-core 1GHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor, ULP GeForce GPU, Tegra 2 AP20H chipset and 512MB RAM. It also has an FM Radio which the Droid doesn't and also a screen with 540 x 960 pixels, 4.3 inches (~256 ppi pixel density)
It is a way better device than Droid. So I would keep it and wait for development to start. I believe the bootloader will be unlocked just like Atrix' did.
And unfortunately I can't use it here in Greece as we only use GSM Networks and not CDMA's or I would buy it from you!
I absolutely love my OG Droid, but over the last 6 months it's started to get pretty frustrating. It is a really fun device and there are lots of great ROMs for it, but the internal memory is too small and it is starting to be way too slow, even overclocked. I've been waiting for what seems like forever for a phone that I've deemed worthy of replacing it, and the Galaxy Nexus should be it, if VZW will ever decide to release it.
ive been looking/waiting for a better qwerty phone since i got the d3. d3 problems to me screen, no 4g, lack of ram, shouldnt of even come with motoblur eventho thats removable. id still like to see more specs on the stratosphere II looks very promising. the d4 is not something id want for my own reasons. i like the photon q but its on sprint and there 4g or lack there of lol. http://www.engadget.com/2012/11/12/samsung-stratosphere-ii/ opinions thoughts? o yea the d3 didnt even get ics illegitimately id love to see a droid 5 but i think the specs will be under par sadly enough.
I'd like to see Motorola take a Droid Razr M, add a keyboard and call it the Droid 5. Motoblur has been much improved with ICS and newer as its hardly a skin anymore, and mostly resembles stock. Being almost a year old, I would stay away from the Droid 4 as well. I'm wondering if there will be a Droid 5 at this point. With the Samsung phone your getting a lower resolution screen vs the Droid 3, but not by much (800x480 vs 960x540). Your also getting Samsung's UI on ICS.

we can day dream about phones all day they will never get it right. i like super amoled i like the color saturation resolution on smaller screens doesnt make that big of a difference to me. still dont like moto blur id just shut off the slow animations that eat up memory. removeable battery, keyboard, amoled, external storage, hardware camera button and 4g thats all i really want in a phone. original droid was great they should have kept building from that it had no moto blur no locked bootloader could of had more ram but so could the droid 3.
This device poorly integrates the physical keyboard with android OS. When I had it I got more frustrated by the physical keyboard not working as expected and would just use the on screen keyboard. Definitely use one in person before buying.
Planning to get either phone. Also considering Galaxy S4 + HTC One. Time is not of essence, good phone is. I want performance, megapixels (Camera) and long battery life. Right now edge is Droid MAXX. Interestingly I don't see a forum for the new Droid MAXX/Ultra on VZW which is already released. Also the phone MUST be globally capable as I travel and like to use AT&T/T-mobile SIM's from time to time.

I'm in the same boat. Really want the battery life of the maxx and wireless charging ability. In fact really for me the only downfall of the maxx is the capacitive buttons. I really like the soft on screen buttons. Don't know if that will bug the heck out of me or not. I think I will at least play with both and make my final decision.

If you want Development, there is going to be a lot more people getting the Moto X since it's on all of the major US carriers. Just be sure to get a Developer Edition
Add me to the list of the undecided. I still have the Galaxy S4 on my short list. Im leaning towards the Maxx for the aforementioned reasons.
The development issue has me balking at the Maxx though. That and some of the issues reported with last years Droid Razr Maxx HD. I know this SOC is different, but some of the sluggishness reported on the Razr Maxx after using them for a while has be wondering if i shouldnt wait a month or so.
Was an early adopter of the Droid X and its been my only phone for over 3 years. Still going for now running VXLR 2.2.0, but im seriously overdue for a new phone. I tend to hang onto phones for at least 2 years or more, so i want something i can ROM when and if it starts bogging down or i just want better features.
At the bare minimum id like to get root access on the Maxx. I guess its still a little too soon to know if that will happen. Anyone have any thoughts or a best guess on whether root will be achievable on the Maxx?
I'm completely in the same boat. My renewal just came up. The X seems like a good phone, but it seems very similar to the Maxx and I would love to have the Maxx's battery life. The X/Maxx/etc have virtually the same specs. All of them have the same screen type that I dislike, I prefer the soft buttons so Maxx/Ultra are one down for that, no sd card (minor as I have a nexus right now), non-removable battery (minor but annoying).
I do love the HTC one, similar issues, I like the screen better & love the speakers in the front, because well its nice they are directed AT me, but the camera is weak and HTC hasn't been know for its quality in the last several phones it released.
The S4 is a possibility, my co-worker has it and loves it. The note 3 is coming out soon but that phone is massive! lol
What to do, what to do. If I had any choice I would really love another nexus, but alas that ship has long sailed and is most likely never coming back.
The two major differences comes down to screen size and battery life. Maxx has a slightly larger screen size and double the quoted battery life for mixed use. Personally, screen sizes are getting out of control so MotoX is an easy pick.
From what i read and experienced
Battery life:
MAXX > S4 > Moto X > One
Design:
One > Moto X > S4/MAXX
Screen:
One/S4 > Moto X > MAXX
Storage:
S4 > One > MAXX > Moto X
Camera:
S4 > One > MAXX/Moto X

I disagree with the battery life that S4 is better than MotoX. Yes, the S4 has a 400mAh larger battery, but that is offset by the larger screen and higher resolution that requires more juice. The MotoX mainly comes short in 3G talk time. But let's face it, most people don't really spend a lot of time talking on their phones. We mainly use it for non-talk stuff (email, texting, music, video, etc), which is where the MotoX excels. Life all battery life tests, none of them matter because it depends on actual user.
Also the HTC One and MotoX should be tied for design as they both worthy for different reasons. Aluminum body on the HTC One is pretty sleek, while the motomaker and build quality on the MotoX makes plastic look expensive.
True. If it's not the MAXX, battery life is all pretty much the same. As for the the design, i agree with you, but i also took into consideration the speaker design, I.E. the front facing goodness

No regrets with getting the maxx as long as signal with Verizon is good enough for me indoors where it matters (work) in happy with the switch. Went from 49% to 25% first day initial charge with 2hrs screen on time.

Apparently the OS takes up 6.5GB. I'm going to go with the Maxx, I want more than 9.5GB for all my stuff on stock. But God, I hope this thing gets unlocked

Was waiting for the X this hole time. I went and took a look at the MAXX yesterday and went ahead and picked it up. Awesome device!!!!
Feels really solid. Great battery. External speaker is kick butt for a small speaker. Like the 5" screen.
Why is there not a Droid Maxx forum yet?
Someone else recently brought this up - why isn't there a Verizon Droid Maxx Forum yet? I see today they put a Verizon HTC One forum in, and that's not even out yet?!
I'm planning on going with the Maxx for battery life. If this had soft keys I'd be 150% sure, but right now am about 90%.
Yeah it's a little odd there is no section yet... Unless they are tying it in this one because the four phones are practically the same but that would be weird and you'd think they would state that.

On Maxx now. Battery is amazing. Love the design and weight. Screen is great. Moto X almost had me sold the "design it yourself aspect", but wasn't enough for me.
Hope this gets enough love for root. But loving it so far.

I got a Ultra and love it. I'm using it with my ATT Sim at the moment. Every thing works too Calls, data (HSPA+) and mms..right out the gate. No messing around with apns.
If people is deciding to grab the Moto X and not pick up one of the new Droids up because of the possibility of no development because of the locked bootloader..if I remember correctly, the Verizon and ATT Moto X has locked bootloaders too. And since the new droids and the Moto X devices is so similar, I would assume that they have a similar bootloader and maybe even all locked down the same.
Maxx looked nice in store, but trying to decide if I should wait for moto X unlocked.

I am surprised there is no conversation on the LG G2 coming. I am ready to part with the DNA due to battery and wanting the latest. Tempted by the Maxx but I had the earlier version and Moto is just boring. Then I get stuck flashing and ignoring my wife. The Maxx is heavy compared to the S4 or LG by 20%. Had the S4 and took it back since I wasn't in love with all the gimmicky stuff and it was just okay. Think Sense is better. Today I just decided to wait for the LG with the larger battery and slightly larger screen. Still tempted to go toy with the Maxx since no one does battery better.

Hey all,
So I'm due for a phone. Currently using the HTC DNA on Verizon.
I was all about the Moto X(2014) until I heard about the Droid Turbo, which looks pretty sweet.
These are my concerns:
Moto X will probably have a larger Dev community, as the turbo is a Verizon exclusive.
The Turbo will probably have a lot more bloat than the Moto X.
The Moto X boasts a 'Pure' android experience, and while nothing has been speculated software wise on the turbo, it will likely be similar, but with a **** ton of Verizon bull****.
Does the higher resolution screen, extra gig of ram and faster processor worth it?
What are your suggestions?
Thanks

There will be no difference on bloat. The turbo may have extra droid stuff (like circle widgets and that zap thing) but moto X on vzw still comes with vzw bloat (this is based on my 2013 X having vzw bloat)
The new X has 8 Verizon apps. I have disabled 5 of them. Verizon Voicemail can not be disabled. I use the hotspot app and the Verizon mobile app to check data usage.
I'd add another phone into the mix, supposed rumors detail the Nexus 6 is coming to Verizon.

If you are sticking with Verizon, then the Droid. better specs, better screen, better battery. But going back to carrier lock and carrier bloat is not something I am willing to do after leaving Sprint last year. I'll be activating an X or Nexus on either T-mo or Cricket soon. Can always walk away if I'm not happy.
I bet the screen brightness will push many to the Turbo. More juice to allow a brighter display. So it was with the X/Maxx dilemma.
FYI: The manual for the Turbo leaked.
http://gizmodo.com/leaked-droid-turbo-manual-shows-a-super-powered-motorol-1644058683
I went with the X because I don't like the droid branding or the fact that it has capacitive navigation buttons, like the galaxy phones still cling to.
The one benefit of capacitive is that they can't burn in at least. I got the new moto x and love it. Might still get the Note 4 instead though. I'd rather have a 16 mp camera on Samsung then a 21 with bad software. That's the only ring Motorola can't get to be great. Camera software.
Ah man, I'm on day 13 of moto x 2014 and now news of droid turbo leaks. Better battery, hopefully more storage and same software features. Thinking about returning moto x to wait for turbo.
Turbo has good specs, but looks like moto went back in time 5 years in the design department

Function over form:
Returning my moto x. I love it, but the entire package is way better on the turbo. It seems exactly like a 5 inch version of the nexus 6. I even set up an exchange for a different moto x yesterday and I contact moto today to get my money back.
Droid life is reporting that the battery code listed on the Turbo benchmark sheet relates to a 3,900mAh battery spotted in China.
Not too shabby.

I ended up returning my moto x, hopefully these droid turbo rumors prove to be true.
Yeah, function over form, but who can feel performance difference over any flagship device out this month? I have an iPhone 6, moto x, M8 and they all perform the same. The only draw back I have is the camera on the x sucks, like really really bad and no good cases for the x. Otherwise, I like the near pure android experience of the x over sense and iOS. And the x just looks so much better than the other 2
The only reasoning I have to keep my moto x is that it's the pure edition so it will most certainly get updates quicker than the droid and it's rocking and unlocked bootloader

Yes, the Turbo ill most assuredly have a locked bootloader, be almost impossible to Root, and probably never see anything past Android L.
But dear god, those specs.

Burn in? Lol. These aren't plasma TV screens.
I see that the specs for the screen are better than the Note 4. But the Note 4 is labeled as a QuadHD and Droid is not. Does this mean the Note 4 screen is still better because it's QuadHd?
Just because it isn't labeled doesn't mean it isn't. The ppi itself tells you that it's quad hd for it being so high. Plus if you haven't looked even on Motorola website it States it being quad hd.
It's QHD, which isn't very relevant to the quality of the screen, but whatever.
Note 4 have serious screen quality issues, look a note 4 forum and you see.
I currently have the Note 4...thinking about switching because it's just to big for my pockets. But I can tell you that the screen on the Note 4 is beautiful and it's so good it's making it hard for me to ditch the phone.
I went to the verizon store to look at the droid turbo...but the store was so ghetto they didn't have but 5 phones on display and didn't have the droid turbo.

I got rid of my Note 3 for the same reason. I went to the S5 witch is a great phone and then this phone. I'm totally happy with the Turbo, the screen is nice and crisp and the near pure Android OS is killer. I did a comparison at the VZW store with the Note 4, Turbo and Xperia Z3V. As soon as I picked up the Turbo and played around with it I said wow I gotta get me one of these. Root or no root this is the best Verizon currently has in my opinion.
Don't get caught up in what all the latest buzz words are, just look at the resolution (2560x1440) for both. Image quality may differ but resolution is a finite, comparable spec.
