Ok, I apologize if this has been asked already but I can not find it. So my problem is not matter what I activate in my keyboard settings for the Motorola mic to appear on the keyboard it will not show. It will show on the swype but not on the Motorola keyboard. So I also installed the JB keyboard from the market as well with no luck. The settings key will show but no mic to voice to text. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Is anyone having the problem where they pick another input type (i.e. PCM Keyboard, TouchPal) and it defaults back to the WM Keyboard? I like to use a soft keyboard for "one-handed" use sometimes. Anyone know of a workaround or fix?
Do a search for SIP changer.cab It allows you to set your default keyboard and it will restore it after a soft reset.

I downloaded the SIPChange program and it didn't seem to help. When I reboot, it still comes up with the MS Keyboard. When I select another input method like PCM Keyboard or TouchPal, it goes back to keyboard. Any ideas? This is getting extremely frustrating.
I found with sip changer, you need to run it and make the selection there and confirm it with the button in the middle of the screen, not the OK button in the top right.
If that doesn't help, I'm at a loss as it works fine for me.
If I understand the OP correctly, it isn't simply an issue of what defaults, it's an issue of being able to select the 3rd party keyboard, period. I have the same problem with ToughPal... I install touchpal, it works for a while, then after a while it can't be selected. It's in the pop-up list to select, but selecting it results in the standard keybard. I uninstalled, re-installed, and it worked for a while, and now it's back to not working.
SIP Change also addresses the issue of the 3rd party keyboards not showing up correctly. I'd tried PocketCM keyboard and it had failed, but SIP Change fixed that once I'd executed it correctly.

I tried a couple of things as well. One of them was to change the setting to 5 seconds first. That didn't work. Once I changed it back to 10 seconds, it worked fine on this reboot. Will post back here if I run into problems again. Also, I only tested it with PCM Keyboard and not TouchPal.
Hi Guys
Sorry if this has been posted, I did do a search and couldn't find a solution.
Whenever I change the input type in the input settings, it immediately defaults back to compact qwerty when I go back in to look.
Is this a known problem?
Thanks in advance
Nobody have any ideas?
After flashing the new ROM i've the same problem.
Every time i switch the keyboard layout, it automatically returns to compact QWERTY.
Can the layout be set in the registry?
I haven't found any solution yet.
fixing the default imput method
I also had this problem and it was driving me mad! However, searching the forum I came across a recommendation to use a little program called SIPchange. I installed this (it's free!) and it allows you to set any imput method as the default. So far it seems to work.
The only problem I now have is that the Letter Recogniser doesn't show me any suggested words as I enter text, despite this option being switched on in the settings. Any ideas anyone?
Richard
Hi All,
Recently I flashed my Diamond2 to the latest ROM from official HTC website. (ROM 2.53...)
I found out that if I want to search for names in contact (All People) the keyboard available only for numbers. I couldn't key in alphabet characters to spell names. Is this how it should be or is it bug? Please help. Thanks.
I know that on the default SIP, it knows when numeric values are the default, however to search contacts it should still allow Alpha characters.
Maybe try a different SIP.

what is SIP? AND where can i get other/different SIP? Thanks
SIP is Soft Input panel. or your onscreen keyboard.
There are free ones such as Finger Keyboard avail here on XDA, or pay apps such as Touchpal, Zoomboard, Rescoe Keyboard, etc.
Keyboard issue still not resolved

Thanks bruce. Really appreciate your help. I've installed finger keyboard 2.1 yesterday, but it makes my td2 hang .today i've uninstalled it, no more hang, but my first problem still not resolved. also, i found out when using phone keypad mode, some of the keys not working/not woking well. how to fix this problem? please help. thanks
So, nobody here can help me?...
Have you tried to change the SIP to Alpha when numeric appears? or select a different default input panel?
There's no option to change to Alpha or other input. Please take note, this only happen when i want to search contact (by pressing magnifier button).
to get names workin
i use swype and i have to delete at least one letter out of the name i want and it brings the contacts up to choose from.
give it a try! let me know if it works ion the other keyboards as well.
So I have a Samsung Vibrant GT-i9000m from Bell Canada with the FFC. Some how I no long have the Android Keyboard in my list of input method's (long pres on text input field) or in settings -> Locale and Text -> Select Input Method -> Swype or Samsung Keypad (only). My phone is unlocked (i bought the unlock code form Bell directly) and I used the one click lag fix for rooting the phone. I'm unsure when I lost the Android keyboard but I know for a fact I never deleted or uninstalled it. I can only assume that the bell unlock code or the one click lag fix rooting app are the cause of the missing input method.
Does anyone know where I can download the Android Keyboard? I've searched a bit but Android Keyboard give a vast variety of results even on the app brain and market.
Many thanks in advance for any answers!
Swype or Samsung Keypad
that is correct
those are the default input methods, you can always install more if you want
like the HTC keyboard or the Moto Droid keyboard, or many other available out there
but of them all i prefer the swype keyboard better
I recall having a 3rd option "Android Keyboard". It has a mic icon in the bottom left corner i assume for speech to text. Kinda like the Iphones voice search that's what I'm looking for. Yes I strongly agree Swype is better but when I'm driving I wouldn't mind some speech to text or voice search.
I did find on forum.xda-developers .com under thread 709519 but its 114mb kinda big for a keyboard. (cant post URL)
I might be wrong and never seen the Android Keyboard option but I know I have seen screen shots of other peoples Vibrants with this 3rd option that I assumed was stock to android 2.1.
Even my google search widget doesn't have the mic icon for voice search.
vLingo it comes as part of the phone
you need to install it in Samsung Apps
it's free
it does voice control and voice dictation
needs some minor training, it can handle accents
OMG I had it all along and never tried the vLingo keyboard. Thanks so much! YOU DA MAN.
it is very annoying due to the fact then when I want to delete the whole sentence I can no longer just push the alt button and then delete. i used to do that a lot and its very helpful with texting. So does anyone have any ideas
I am also looking for a solution to this. My last phone (Nokia N900) you could just ctrl+backspace for whole words, or just ctrl+a (select all) then backspace but i can't seem to work out how to do this on the DROID3.
As far as I can this is a bug, and the only workaround is to choose Swype as your input method. The Droid2 has the same issue. It's an artifact of the auto-word-completion feature which is still enabled when the physical keyboard is in use.
I've tried changing the Multi-Touch keyboard settings (including the "device keyboard" section) to no avail.
Hooray changing to swype is genius ahaha works fine for me and i like swype anyways whenever I'm too lazy to slide out the keyboard.
