Need help i897 broken after slimbean flash - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi, i tried looking for some info but cant quite get exactly what i need,,
just flashed slimICS into my i897 , but for some reason flash process took less than a second and now the phone gets stuck at a screen with a g and 4.0.3. TH , can someone help my out here a little, this time i really dont know where to look or what to do, please advise

You can boot into recovery and try flashing again. Keep in mind the first boot might take a few minutes.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium

thats what ive been trying to do, it justs reboots, after i hold vol down + vol up + power, it displays att logo, then the G with 4.0.3 then reboots , loops

U may be holding the buttons too long. Try again, but release all buttons as soon as u see the first at&t screen.
If that doesn't work then u will probably have to get into download mode a flash to stock and start over.

At least let go of power; keep holding volume.

i tried all of the above, for some reason , everything seemed to broke, even download mode wont enter now anymore , it just looped forever
read somewere i had to make a jig, to enter into download mode , not needed, i was able to enter into download mode via adb ,
btw , i flashed a kernel and it seems it didnt finished so it broke, after that i was not able to go into download mode or recovery mode, thats why i was asking but i managed to go into download mode using adb, now im back at stock rom, thanks for ur time, NO jig was needed

Check our faqs next time. If you ever loose recovery by what ever reason just ODIN a AOSP kernel thats running the same partition layout. Should get you recovery back so you can reflash.

yes i know read before posting, sometimes its just dificult when your running out of patience, whats amazing about it is that my wife always tells me, dont do things when ur upset, cause u break everything , i never listen, i break everything ahahaha, when im calm history is diferent, thnks for ur times,
by the way, what i noticed is that after recovering from all that happy clicking, my power button no longer works, could it be a bad flash? or is it just me that got really lucky and broke power button also?

It shouldn't be a rom/kernel problem. However on the off chance that it is you can ODIN your way back to Stock GB and check. Be sure you have kernels with touch recovery or that you can use the softkeys to select (its been so long I don't remember if it was available on TW kernels or which one had it. If its hardware shouldn't be to expensive to fix it ($30+ shipping through mobiletechvideos.com). Though need to consider if its worth fixing 2 year old device.
Cheers

A friendly fyi, as far as GB goes, the capacitive buttons can be used in the recovery of KK4 Corn Kernel v7.0A ---- menu=down, home=up, back=back, search=select.

[Q] Galaxy S Wony Boot!

After downloading an app from the market (cant remember the name of it)..
It rebooted itself and now the phone wont reboot.
It comes up with the Galaxy S I9000 logo and everything but go into my main screen
It continues to vibrate and the screen stays all black.
The lights on the 'back' on the left and the 'menu' panel on the left has its lights on but it just vibrates as if its force closing and wont boot...
Tried system reboot by holding down the keys and tries reboot but wont reboot...
Any ideas????
My phone has been rooted so im guessing that the warranty on the phone wont apply??
Other people from other forums advised that it would be a good idea for me to install a different ROM but Im not too good with these things so I dont know what it means, also having trouble understanding how it can be done when I cant access th main screen of my phone?
Please help

Darkyys recovery rom is a good place if all else fails, It has got me out of a few holes when even the standard roms failed to work
you'll need odin (i recommend version 1.7) but if I remember correctly it's included in the download with darkyys rom

[Q] I think I bricked it...help would be nice :D

So I flashed the initial kernel file using ODIN3 to my captivate running Continuum __ and I'm getting stuck at the Galaxy S CyanogenMod screen. I was wondering if there is any way to fix this other than purchasing the resistors and making a jig...
Did you try flashing back to stock?
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA Premium App
Continuum is a Froyo ROM, right? Were you trying to pair a gingerbread kernel with a Froyo ROM?
Can you get into DL mode to odin back?

First off, what you described isnt even close to a brick.
You need to tell us a couple things. Can you get into download mode? have you tried to flash back to stock?
well the problem is that i cant get into download mode or boot into recovery
Anyway to "adb reboot download"?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA Premium App
nope cause i cant get the usb debugging to work since it wont boot at all
Been there once...what I did was...removed the battery ..and out my phone in Download mode...flashed back to Stock 2.1 and did everything again
You said you cant put it in DL mode? were your 3 button combo working when U flashed initial kernel?
Its definitely not bricked, try putting it into DL mode and flash to stock..
1. remove the usb cable, battery, sdcard, SIM.
2. wait 10 seconds, then insert the USB cable.
3. press and hold the 3 button combo while you insert the battery
4. continue to hold until phone's screen goes black twice and release power button.
5. timing is critical, it may not work the first time. Keep going until you see the COM port is connected properly.
well when i was flashing initial kernel i just did adb download and the flashed it and when i follow your steps it just puts me back to boot screen and i stay there

Continuum v5.1, v5.2 got big trouble

Hi Experts,
I have a Cappy and i love Continuum 5 ROM. I never miss any versions from beta2 to RC 3, everything is ok, but now when contimuum v5.1 was released. I tried to flash it but i got a big problem in that version. The first, i encountered Boot Loop issue while booting, but it's not the biggest problem, my cappy is still boot up to the home screen, and here everything was became very bad. My Cappy got lag and cant interact with return and it reboot automatic after that.
Now, when v5.1 was released, i believed it'll be fixed, but it's still exists. .
my cappy cant boot up to home screen. it repeats booting to continuum animation and restart forever.
can anybody give me a suggestion for turning my cappy back !!!!!!!! Please help
Did you have full battery? I made this mistake too... Be sure that you did everything correctly..
Sent from my captivate using XDA App
I would suspect you could simply use the 1-CLICK ODIN program to restore the phone then follow the steps carefully for 5.1 (which is a pretty awesome ROM btw)
I'm sure i charged full battery before flashing.

right. i got a bootloop when flash to v5.2. i tried to flash the rom in recovery mode many times, but it's still exists. even i flash back to RC3. i got only the android text animation on the screen.
thus i have to flash to the stock by that way. and now i got a brick
I've had problems in the past with getting to download mode on the cappy. I did some googling trying to find a way, ended up finding a very good page on it:
http://samsungcaptivate.wikia.com/wiki/Putting_the_Phone_into_Download_Mode
I hope that helps.
Had the same problem with my cappy. The problem is that after all you did, you have one bootloader from i9000 and another from i897. The jig won`t help. I`ve found the people that recovered the phone with JTAG.

[Q] Help! Phone won't boot up or recovery menu!

I have a samsung captivate and i have been using the ROM fasty 2.5 for the past few months and i noticed there was a fasty III 1.3, So i went into my clockwork recovery and back up'd my system and data and whiped it all and proceeded to install the ZIP to my phone. When it all had finished i tried to reboot my phone and i got this staticy screen and then it would repeatedly restart over and over back to the static. So i then forced it to stay off and tried to boot it up to the recovery menu by holding the volume buttons and the power button and it can't boot to the recovery menu. Instead it just stays at the I896 screen. Is there anything i can do to fix this problem? i need my phone working as soon as possible so any help would be very much appreciated!
Sounds to me like you didn't flash the GB bootloaders. Might need to get yourself a jig and then flash the right bootloaders

Take a look at the sticky threads and search for a download mode jig
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using xda premium
I checked all the sticky notes and the web and it looks like these all include me messing around with the insides of my phone and tinkering with the hardware. I am not very comfortable doing that or do i have the understanding or tools to mess with that. Is there anything i can do software related to unbrick this. Or is my phone truly F'd?
No worries! I ended up using odin3 to restore it. Thank you very much for your help anyways! i will be sure to grab those GB loaders this time.

find cf root, or use semaphore kernel
bootloop becoz wrong kernel flashed, knowing ur build number is important to determine which cf root u needed
if u find da suitable kernel, bootloop will fix by flashing thru odin, but ur sayin u dont even know da version here, so it become more difficult.

Try this:
This feature is great for people who
a) Have a bad KIES flash
b) Stuff up their phone somehow
c) Accidentally flash something dodgy via ODIN
d) Some other random occurence
To test this feature you just need to start with your phone turned off... Best way to be sure is to remove the battery.
Then
1. Put battery back in
2. Press and hold Volume Up + Home Key
3. Continue holding those buttons and then press and hold power button.
4. When you see the logo pop up release power button ONLY
5. Keep holding two buttons from step 2 until you enter recovery mode.
I hope this helps!

DUDE!!!! I have the samsung galaxy s4 att sgh-i337. I recently just tried flashing uxylon from the goo manager . I did standard procedure of factory reset twice, then cache and dalvik cache wipe two times. Just so happens as Im waiting for uXylon or whatever its spelled to flash , my phone decides to stay at the boot screen.... At this point im sweating. After a few minutes i take the battery out and restart regularly . I restart and wait 10 minutes thinking it still may flash uxylon. NOPE. :,( Now im getting really scared. I try to the custom recovery mode.... no twrp OR SYSTEM RECOVERY .... Now Im Falling over scared. I take out battery try again. power , home , volume up , repeatedly . It wont even say booting recovery it only says recovery options then black screen untill I release the buttons. . Then bootloop to logo no recovery. Now Im frantic. I look up adam outler's page on ODIN recovery with stock firmware and ddownload ucuadml and ucuamdb not knwoing which , if either of them , would flash through ODIN. So im frantically flying through the web for 3 hours searching some magic button combo or something that may help me just reach my recoveries in twrp (since the computer would not recognize even in download mode) . I look everywhere. EVERYWHERE. This point i figure i can try odin and its my last chance. Im waiting on the firware to download right now to this second as I type . Somehow God magically guided me to this page though ... because I did about 300 google searches looking for a way to get my twrp back and use my nandroids. NOTHING until now..... I run across this post and move down and come across your post. "have you tried this button combo ? " I read the next comment . "NO no combos worked." Clciked forward a few pages and found nothing. Im giving up ... its over... Either ODIN will work and flash my stock firmware or I will have no way to turn my paper weight back into a cell phone. As Im click the back button i come across THIS post YOUR actual comment. I read it and think ... I didnt try that. I tried it the way you posted. Home + volume up ... nothing happens .... TWRP's beautiful blue screen pops up !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I rostroe my cleanROM 1.0 nand and Im back up . I seriously just want to thank you for posting this little comment that you probably thought would never really help anyone at all. This truly TRULY just saved my phone . find cf root, or use semaphore kernel
bootloop becoz wrong kernel flashed, knowing ur build number is important to determine which cf root u needed
if u find da suitable kernel, bootloop will fix by flashing thru odin, but ur sayin u dont even know da version here, so it become more difficult.
here list of cf root
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108
but as i said before da difficulty now is u dont even know ur build number n version but ur sayin u wanna backup ur app data but ur fone bootloop now.
