(GUIDE) How to port roms!

As the title speaks, here is a guide on porting roms.
For porting roms from fit,
1.download the rom (obviously)
2.Extract the rom through winrar
3.Go to system folder
4.Go to system/lib/modules. Delete everything there and replace with the ones for our device.
5.Then go to system/lib/hw. delete everything there and replace with yours.
( The "/hw" directory as you can see contains the files which control the sensors and lights such as GPS and the accelerometer. )
6. Then for the soft keys and hard keys to work, go to system/usr/keychars and system/usr/keylayout and replace with yours
7. Now go to system/etc. Then delete these items and replace with the ones meant for our device.
- vold.fstab
- /wifi
- /ppp
If u are porting cm7 from fit, use the boot.img of any cm7 rom here. eg. Mebitek's cm7 boot.img .
For ace,
Do the above things , then resize framework-res.apk, systemui.apk and other apk's like dialertabactivity.apk, phone.apk!
For other devices, (other manufacturers)
(Eg. HTC when porting cm7)
Extract the cm7 meant for our rom. Then delete app and framework folder. Then go to the rom u wanna port. Copy framework and app folder. And paste it in the cm7 made for our device.
For porting kernels,
unpack the boot.img of the rom u wanna port. Open init.rc and copy the things after bootpath.
repack ur ramdisk!
For camera to work on the ported roms, replace these wid urs,
libarccamera.so
libcamera.so
libcameraservice.so
libcamera_client.so
libCaMotion.so
liboemcamera.so
libseccamera.so
libseccameraadaptor.so
And plz dont spam the development section with ports
Use it for your personal use!

Gud guide for personal use...but now every noob will fill dev section with ports and least care about bug fixes...coz they don't know hw to do it. Lol

this is also an aspect ;-)
But we needf real Portes to FIX bugs. ..
And not some NOOB Porters to port a real buggy fw ...

Yeah most roms are noob friendly to port except the ones which are device specific..

yup like ldpi to ldpi
but mdpi to ldpi is in the most things really hard to port
and so on, i use my own method of porting roms ;-)
Most ports of me are mdpi to ldpi
and i know also how to fix bugs :´D
So for newbies stay out of dev sections with ports from devices you dont have
or dont know how to fix real bugs ,-)

I have ported the SGSII Rom from Galaxy Fit but I have changed the keylayout and keychair cartel but don't function the back button and the home and option button don't function correctly, this button function like the home button! What is the problem??

U changed d boot.img?

Correction:
Every developer was newb when starting, not a n00b.
n00b are those users that claim to have knowledge about a specific subject without really having a clue, causing confusion amongst regular members and making it difficult for developers to actually develop..
newb would be a user that knows his lack of knowledge, therefore making it easier to learn .....
Developers threads are for everyone, to develop and learn to develop. To cause obstruction of that "development" is what hurts our forums. So, in short
If you have something to contribute, please do it, and do it accordingly, trying to provide logs and specific issues in order for them to be approached.
If you have nothing to contribute, then....read.

If I want to port a honeycomb ROM to my tablet, would i use the STOCK files to replace the files in the honeycomb ROM? I need to know what ROM do I take my files to replace the honeycomb files with...

Would that work with any device or is it specific to Galalxy?
Like could I use a ROM of another device which has similar specs like my phone and use a cm7 for my phone and remove app and framework folder and then add the ones from another phone's stock ROM?

i did all steps above to port a rom from Galaxy ace but in recovry mode when i try to flash the zip it says Installation aborted
plzz help

U can try to port roms from fit as a starter -_- try first then speak! No offense. Some people have tried my guide and it workd! :/ eg. Kartik.ansal has ported lewa os from wildfire using my guide :\

I would like to ask your help. I need the original lockscreen sounds of our ace. I use a cm based ROM now, and it doesn't contains those sounds.

Get lock.ogg and unlock.ogg from a stock rom,find the lock and unlock sound files in CM,replace them with this,and give permissions if needed.I am not sure if it will work,but it wouldn't hurt to try I guess..

[Q]Theme JB for Galaxy Y working in mini??

Hey folks I was searching in the galaxy Y themes forums and i found this awesome theme that is exactly alike jb 4.2
I was wondering if this would work in our mini , in the comments the themer said that it won´t work on cm7 it only work on the stock bases custom roms for galaxy Y , So MAYBE it could work in a sotck base custom rom for our galaxy mini. Obviously i didnt try to flash it but maybe copying ONLY some apps (contacts and phone are great and enough for me ) to system/app it might work.
I tried but it didn´t work maybe i did something wrong or i didn´t gave the right permissions or maybe it only work it you flash it with the rom and not replacing the apk
I open this thread for any idea to make it work , not the complete theme, but some apps at least.(System ui and framework-res i dont think will work)

actually it works my friends the phone, mms,calendar, contacts apk work on any custom stock based ROM. just dont flash push the apks to system and they will work.
I didnt try system ui and framework (i dont think they work)

You can provide it as a flashable .zip, not just re-upload my ROM.

You can't share paid apps, "Smart Keyboard Pro" is a paid application in Google Play.

black mailing is not the right way mate :/ ...modding rom's is not just a reupload of rom, of all ppl here, u have better understanding of how android works..u work with png's and make a lot of changes in xml/smali for extra mod's that arent merged in source by CM team..which is fun..but without modding and experimentation, there wont be any fun...just boring zombie dev's and users who arent allowed to work with compiled rom's..
look at mini forum..based on ur great work of cm9 and cm10, there wouldnt have been so many roms to choose from for users, without modding them...people will eventually get tired of using the same rom for over a period of time..
in the end, fun is all that matters in android since we can do anything with it...lighten up a bit, let them do wat ever they want...its not like they wont mention u in credits..telling people not to use ur work will only take the fun out of it...just sayin my thoughts sincerely..no offense meant

It's actually not blackmailing, but whatever... Taking others work and putting it into another's work (taking midzan's apps and adding them to my ROM) without doing any modding at all (at least I don't think adding/removing apps to a ROM is modding). + he asks for tutorial on how to do that. Either you contribute with some meaningful updates/patches/fixes etc. or you keep your Winzip ROM for a personal usage. I am not spending my free time so others can just re-upload my ROM. It's the same if someone takes your theme and changes, for example, the color of battery icon and re-uploads it.

just make an update.zip that will :
-install the apps you ported (dont include launcher etc if midzan21 doesnt want)
-deletes the cm10 apps you deleted
just dont have it as a whole ROM

[Guide][Full]Port Galaxy Y ROMs To Galaxy Y Duos

Read Whole Procedure To Port Custom Rom Of Galaxy Y To Galaxy Y Duos.
What This Means - Open Your Duos Stock Deodexed ROM In One Window And In Another Window The ROM Of Galaxy Y You Want To Port.
Just Drag And And Drop Files From Galaxy Y Duos ROM To Galaxy Y ROM (You Port).
(If This Procedure Works With Other Devices Than Reply Must!!!).
Note : Every Changes With Stock Deodexed ROM. Few Changes Done with Stock Odex ROM.
Where To Make Changes. Change in These Folders/Files In System Which I Write.
1. App
2. Bin
3. Cameradata
4. Csc
5. Etc
6. Fonts
7.REMOVED
8. Lib
9. Media
10. Usr
11. Build.prop ,CSCFiles,CSCVersion,SW_Configuration.

Delete Boot.img Present In Galaxy Y Rom
Download iduos1.3.1 Kernel
Unpack It Add Boot.img From Here To Galaxy Y Rom. That You Port To Galaxy Y Duos
-----------> You Done.
-----------> Repack The Zip
-----------> And Flash With The Same Procedure Which Comes With Galaxy Y ROM.

i just tried porting minirom _ux (sgy rom ) but my cell got stuck on Samsung Galaxy Y duos screen....pls guide me about this problem.
Even i saw that in the main post i could see that FRAMEWORK is written as (removed) ....can u pls tell me what actually u meant ??

The above procedure works well..!!
and i port some galaxy y roms to galaxy y duos like
jellyblast
hyperion
nemsis
and other
remove framework, becoz theirs some difference b/w galaxy and duos framework
if you change ant framework files
your device cant boot up

and one more question will it work with 2 sim or only 1 and if it only 1 is there any way to make it work with 2 sim

If you are porting a single sim rom than it only detect 1 sim only not 2nd sim and add csc file of arabic like INU , NPL and other

1st of all u dont have to do nothing with framework folder leave it becoz galaxy y and duos framework files has some different. and dont take files from here and there .take this and this file to port rom or u got a bootloop i also use my own procedure and ported hyperion 8,jellyblast , nemsis and other but i didnt give u.
just follow the above link and dont do anything hurry.

But both sims will work or only one sim and how to make work both sims can u send a link of procedure or if u know just tell bro ..

only 1 sim work beciz u port a single sim rom or making single sim to dual sim not possible (if ur going to change than it takes more changes and editings)

i am porting jellyblastv3 and i tried 3 times.
1st time with no framework folder -->>stuck at yduos logo
2nd time with jellyblast(sgy) framework files -->>booted but sim not working.NO SIGNAL.(HELP)
3rd time with stock deodexed (yduos) framework files -->>bootloop(tried wiping data cache..but no luck)
need help no signal

in 7th step i write framework(removed) now edited . this means u dont have to do anything in framework folder .
