Hello all,
I just started to play around with my Galaxy Note. I rooted it, flashed the speedmob kernel and then the ParanoidAndroid V2.22 Custom Rom based on CM10.
Everything runs fine so fast, better than the stock-rom. I especially like the tablet mode.
I read about many build-prop tweaks to install incompatible market apps, but found nothing on my problem.
I want to install tablet-optimized apps, in this case the chameleon launcher, but the market won't let me do this.
Is there any possibility to tweak something, to make the market (and also the running apps) think that this is an 10 inch tablet (for example the Galaxy Tab 10.1)??
It should be an 10inch tablet to have the bigger grid size of the launcher (6x4 for 10" and 4x2 for 7")
I think the screen resolution is the same (1280x800), also the Ram and CPU should have enough performance. And I know the launcher is running on the note very well (but not installable via market and only with a grid of 4x2)
Is this possible and what do I have to change?
Thanks a lot for every hint!
may be possible by dpi setting in the build.prop file

But if I only change the dpi setting, I think, it will still be recognized as the GT-N7000.
Has anyone the content of the build.prop of an galaxy tab 10.1?
Then I can just try to copy this, right?
Which amount is the minimum dpi possible?
i guess u should go an check in that forum.. by the way... its just like Svoice.. to make it work u need to change the model name in build.prop to s3..
this mite not be the coreect method..do a lot of reading b4
There is a guide for making note like galaxy nexus but i hvnt tried it.
I have tried 213 dpi setting on stock tw and used chameleon launcher.it was awesome but as it was tablet mode, battery drainage was fast.

Just looking for the Nexus Guide, I already saw this. But this i an 7inch tablet.
Can anyone post the content of a Galaxy Tab 10.1 or the Note 10.1?
Then I follow the Nexus Guide but take the Galaxy Tab Model Names
What is the worst thing that can happen, if I change anything wrong?
the phone wont boot.. so make a nandroid backup b4
I think first of all you need buil.prop of note 10.1 then you can do something.
Why you want to do that???there is already tablet modes available man.
Hit thanks buddy

Sure, I am already using ParanoidAndroid in Tablet Mode... But in this Mode i still cannot purchase the Cameleon Launcher from market and also this launcher only runs with a small Grid Size of 4x2 which gives very little space for the widgets... I prefer them with smaller fonts but more space to move.
On 10inch tablets (also with 1280x800 resolution) there is a grid size of 6x4.
And I want to purchase the launcher with the bigger grid size...
Don't Care, I have good eyes

Thanks for opening again. Also from my side, please stay on topic. I want to support the chameleon team and buy the app.
The purpose of my thread is to tweak my note to get access to this "incompatible" app.
Back to topic
By changing the Screen Density in the build prop, I just got a plain Tablet view (Although there are very big unused borders at the top and bottom in potrait mode and leeft/right in landscape) and was also able to install the launcher regularly via the play store.
Everything fine so far.
But I just got the small grid (indeed this is just 3x2 not 4x2) and think there might be a way to change this.
On the developer Site
http://chameleonlauncher.com/widgets/makeawidget/design/
there are mentioned different layouts for 10" and 7"
Any ideas how to get the bigger grid?
And also how to remove the ugly borders with unused space?
I treid different DPI in the buil.prop, but only the basic 320 and the applied 160 had good results. Everything else messed up the entire screen and forceclosed the systemUI (tried 180, 190, 200, 240)

The app's author made a video of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KD5WD-HDagM&feature=player_embedded
EDIT: Looks slow because I think the video was made using the Android Emulator rather than an actual device. Just pointing that out before folks start going "omgitsslowzz"
just purchased and it does seem a lot slower than LP. luckily i was able to return within the 15 minutes.

So far, other than the nifty new animations, app drawer, presets, it looks the same as the free ADW.Launcher which I currently use and my favorite. More than likely I'll buy it, once I finish watching the video.
Differences between ADW.Launcher and ADWLauncher EX
ADWLauncher EX is based on the ADW.Launcher opensource code with a lot of new additions and improvements, like for example:
5 different app drawer styles/behaviors
3D Nexus One like applications drawer
2 different plain vertical applications drawers styles, the “old one” and a new fast and smooth one
2 different Iphone-like horizontal applications drawers, a traditional paginated one and a new one with continuous fling
Different desktop transitions (8 at the moment): new animations while navigating through your desktop screens. Try them all, they’re crazy!!!
New Icons configurations/look and feel: Tweak your desktop icons, change its sizes, add coloured backgrounds, change font size, color, etc!
New fast presets mode: Quickly change the whole desktop configuration by 1 click!
Editable desktop icons for applications, shortcuts and folders!
Lots of code improvements
More, more more to come!!

What if I already have the free ADW.Launcher? Does buying EX mean I have to reset all my options and homescreens, or is there a way to transfer them over?

Probably new shrug. Try backing it up and see if it works.
It worked! but you have to rename the original adw.launcher backup file to the EX backup file.
ADW.Launcher backup files:
adw_launcher.db
adw_settings.xml
Rename both to adw_ex_launcher.db and adw_ex_settings.xml
Course you'll need to readd your widgets though. But most of the settings transfer over.

You need to swipe down on the dock itself. Put an app in that 2nd dock, it'll make it easier.
Hm... LP still seems smoother to me. And LP still doesn't feel as smooth as it does on my N1 or Vibrant... guess I'll have to wait for a gingerbread compatible LP.
looked around a bit but didn't find a legitimate answer..
can anyone post some pictures with 160dpi and 120dpi?? and maybe 132dpi??
i can see how 160 doesn't look quite right but am weary about getting the necessary apps&files to get to 120 or even 132 because apparently there are market/app issues?
someone explain thoroughly???!
In my observation, the touchpad's resolution for 120 dpi is way too small. Everything looks blocky, there are no details. 160 dpi at least in my opinion looks better.
155 was the best for me. 120 and 132 were just too small and 160 didn't seem to space everything properly. When I used 155 it felt much better because it felt like everything was how it was meant to be. Market compatibility was an issue though

If you're willing to shell out some cash for a very useful app, use this one.
Rom Toolbox Pro (jrummy)
Just swipe to the second page and use the build.prop editor/tweaks to experiment with density and anything else you want to try out.
is the market compatibility as simple as changing the dpi back to 120 or 160 (whatever doesn't have issues) and then just updating all your apps??
is changing the dpi essentially just a way to get different aspect ratios and make the things on the screen look better?

DPI changes how large items are on the screen. The screen in the touchpad was made to run at 132, but since that's non-standard for an Android device it messes with the market. It has nothing to do with aspect ratios, but it can change how the screen looks. Lower DPI means blurrier icons, but more fits on the screen at once.
You'd need to do more than just change the DPI back to update. You'd also have to clear the market data or wait a couple of hours before updating. Its a pain, I would recommend sticking with 120 or 160 exactly as anything in between will cause issues. I personally prefer 120 because 160 reminds me of those cheap Chinese tablets, but its a matter of taste.

For those wanting to try 120 dpi, many say that the font is too small. You can go to settings/Interface/system and change the font size to huge. Problem solved. I have been using 120 as my regular size for months. No issues with market and this dpi seems to be better suited for a tablet in landscape format IMO.
I did change build props to samsung SGH-T989 in order to be able to play modern combat 3 but otherwise, everything is stock. I have no need to run chain fire or use drivers for games. As I do not have an android phone, I cannot get the other files for deadspace but I can live with that. 160 dpi just looked too big on the touchpad screen but, again, that is just my opinion.

Give 140 a try. I use it religiously and have no complaints. Everything looks correct. Moreso, ipad-ish if you need a comparison. Couple with Go launcher HD and large font option and you will be happy. Did this for a few friends with touchpads and not a single complaint yet. Yea. Occasional app compatibility issue in the market, but when that happens I just download the APK and install manually.
I choose 148 DPI. For me it's the best. You can have a look on my screenshots.
I currently run at 160 dpi, I love the big icons and clarity, however portrait mode does not center.

I have found that the home screen looks the best when it is set to 155 dpi. I have found that the home screen grid best fits the screen at this setting.

WEll, you've really got something there, just tried 140 on my OaTty touchpad and it looks noticeably better.
Homescreen is off a little though, what grid size do you suggest? I'm using Apex out of preference, I've got 7x8 for both portrait and landscape. I've done a lot to Android but never really messed with the dpi, so I'm a little new to this.

The settings in the Trebuchet Launcher menu do nothing in the latest CM9 build!
120 by far. Elements in certain apps can a little difficult to press, but 90% of the time it is a non issue. I haven't ever come across text that is too small to read, and I like the high res look.
What is everyone running?
I run 340 and love it.. But it seems most of you run/prefer 400.
To edit your LCD density use any root explorer and find the build.prop file. Then edit ro.sf.LCD_density to whatever you desire... 300-480 is safe. I use android tuners built in build.prop editor and this is what editing it looks like:

340 with normal font for me not too bad just enough to get sms text fields below the "nexus 5" on the stock screen protector
Some others in another thread were discussing this as well. 445 seems to be the consensus for what it should look like stock. I've been running 445 for a few hours and I'm loving it. I'm considering trying 440 but 445 really does seem to be the perfect size for the screen.

I used andromodizer. All apps should be about the same. Its really just an edit in the build.prop file. I am going to try 445 and 368 to see how it looks. I am mostly interested in 7 icons in the home screen with the stock launcher. But can use apex or nova to get 7 with a higher DPI. The inky problem with 300 and normal font is the keyboard is rather small in portrait mode. In landscape it is fine though.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk 4
I used 320dpi until I found a bug in the launcher which pops up the keyboard every time you go from an app back to home by pressing the home button. Very annoying. Now I noticed this does not happen at 361dpi and up, so I'm at that now. Just do not want to switch launcher.
Does changing DPI put apps like tapatalk into tablet mode?

Just one thing I would like to know about the little screen of the note 3, when you close the cover, the screen doesn't fit the cover.
Th second thing is when you are on the dialer screen, it doesn't fit too.
Do you have any clue to resolve this probleme please.
And do you think, you are gone to release a lollipop version of Xnote for note 3, with note 4 theme, please.

Great job!
I just typed up a whole paragraph and firefox froze... Anyway, I have discovered that if you change your dpi, everything crashes. But, systemui, and alot more apps do not. That means touch wiz bugs out and makes everything huge like on kk. This fills up the whole screen and looks real slick. Tab A ish. Awesome right. This means that some apps support multidpi but bugs out in a way that makes it huge.
Its working fine on my tab s after replacing a few apks and such. After some serious testing I have found out that systemui and framework res supports multidpi. Awesome huh!
Crashes
Contacts, Camera, TW launcher, Wallpaper chooser, and 50% of multiwindow. Popup window works.
Polling
If anyone would like to see this working or continued, let me know! I'm deciding weather to continue this if there are lots of requests.
Minor changes
I would need to replace some apps like camera and such with some from CM or google if you dont mind.

Boss, I hope you will extend on T700. Best dpi is 384 or 40 I think. If you need tester for 8.4 model, I am here!

Once I get more time to test for my T800, I'm guessing it should go well for T700. I already have twdetox downloaded just in case I had some T700 users

For me this is most important thing in tab s development. I am forced to escape to cm because of small dpi.

Devs
I am in need of a custom ROM base. I don't have time or experience to get a fully one working. I need your help!
Everyone
sometimes I may need testers. Most times I don't.

Hmm after some more testing, my themes work fine and look great with this! Some altering around with icons could get it working. Layouts bug seems to be fixed with changed dpi.
Great. Do you have something for t700 to test?

Not yet ☺ Once I get things working on my T800, it should be a similar process for the T700. But soon!

I haven't built anything for T700 yet. I've been working on my T800 before starting on T700. So far, 340 DPI is good and anything above 360 DPI makes it nexus 7 like. Some apps will be replaced with cm12 apps like the launcher and there are still a little f/c here and there.
Multi window 75% working. But can't drag. Only apps can be pressed.
Lock screen wallpaper may require some injection of an image since wallpaper chooser is broken. I don't mind personally.
Well do more later. Its 5am and ive been up all night. Too much school work lol

I will wait patiently. Just to suggest; go with 384dpi, I have tested many dpi's but this and 400 giving natural size off any app later. For me 8.4 tab is logical to have phone like layout (10.5 I do not have; probably it is stupid to have too big everything ). Go on friend with this very important development!
