Phone not showing ICS
I can't get my son's phone to show the update as available. Has anyone posted the zip file out there for other users to install the ICS update?

Mind sharing where you found it? I'm finding links but not sure which is right. I'd rather just use whatever you used since I know it will work.

uggghhhh. I was just going to use OTA Rootkeeper but ever since I updated to .905 my adb does not work. My phone will not mount to the computer at all, it won't read my SD Card, only charge the phone. So I tried to fix it by flashing a FXZ through RSDLite, because that fixed it last time it happened 6 months ago, and it didn't work. So I'm just going to install the update, and hopefully it will fix my adb. If not, I have no clue how I'm going to root this ******* phone!!! its so frustrating! If anyone knows of a way that I could edit some rooting script to connect through adb wireless, please let me know. I would even be willing to pay someone like ten or fifteen bucks if they could give me a working script to root through adb wireless, or some other way, which I've never heard of.

Please let us know where you found the motofail-ics download that you used. Also, did you just have usb debugging checked or did you need to check other options as well?

motofail ics failed for me
Just hot a replacement bionic in the mail and am about to send back my rooted 2.3.4 running eclipse 3.0. I updated the replacement w 4.0.4 and tried the wonderfully simplified motofail ics, usb debugged (not in mtp mode) it recognized device, started daemon, then stalled out for 20 min....? I unplugged read up some more switched to mtp mode and now it claims its waiting for device to be ready..... i am a unlimited data grandfather who relies on my unlocked wifi tether.... any guidance?!

How did you update to ICS? Over the air update? I ask because if you updated it via FXZ and Fastboot mode with RSD Lite, then what I'm about to suggest is moot. But if you took the OTA update, then it makes more sense.
I'm betting that either your computer doesn't have the right Moto drivers on them, or that you're plugging it into a bad port. They can be finicky.
Go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1771993
Grab the USB drivers mentioned in step (4).
Then make sure that you're plugging your phone into a USB port on the back of your computer, not an external USB hub. Also don't plug it into USB 3.0. This may not actually be the issue but I accidentally used my USB 3.0 port once to Motofail and it didn't work at all. If you already tried one of the back ports, or are on a laptop, just try another port.

MrChupon is spot on. I had the exact same problem until i went Motorola and grabbed the very latest drivers. Worked like a champ after that.

It was over the air, from a fresh stock VZW replacement. For what ever unknown reason it stalled out once it started daemon..... I pre maturely ejected it, and I think it left the device in a partial state, and when reattempting in my 2.o port it was confused and left me hanging.... so in my sleep i decided to try a factory reset to flush the cache so to say and motofail proved to be a fantastic success! (Using my wifi right now thanks to some sqlite value adjustments! Thanks for the wisdom and words regardless!

Ota pushed to mine too!!! 2.3!!!!!! Well, I had to start the check and there it is!!
Me 2 I just checked and it's there. Just booting up as I type. And, I just got a "Software Update Failed".
_mrbirdman_
If you guys hold off on the 2.2 OTA, ill have a pre-rooted .zip to install (will work no matter what version your on ) 7 minutes ago via web
got mine lastnight
Something about a cache error. I had to .sbf to get the update. So everything is fine now with 2.2. Now for the Droid 2 root method.
so if im rooted on regular 2.1 will it work out ok? i uninstalled kindle app and blockbuster and a few minor other ones. is that an issue?
I have a buddy with a Droid X which we rooted and then removed lots of the bloatware. He is having the same issue. I'm in this thread for the fix
As with the leaks you need to replace anything you removed from system or you take a chance of bricking. There seems to be a problem using the 2.1 .sbf after trying to run the ota so be very careful if you removed anything put it all back to be safe. My 2 cents

I had a similar problem. I had to use r3l3ased and forever root, then path saver.

Had the same problem. I have narrowed it down to either a bootstrap issue or one of the mods I used in the past. I used R3L3AS3DRoot and 43V3R Root before doing 2 separate OTA's, one to get back to 893 than the next to 902. It takes some time, sure, but it worked. I'm now waiting for my apps to reinstall.
I tried to go into stock recovery just a sec ago. and when i click vol up to select it . i get an exclamation point with the android guy below it? anyone know why this is happening or what i can do? thanks guys

derp soory i figure it out. i forgot you are supposed to hit vol up and down at the same time
I had similar issues getting a corrupted file. So I ended up going back to stock 893 using the fxz and rsd lite. That put me back to true factory setup, and back on the OTA wagon. So I forever rooted and took the update direct from Verizon and let the phone update itself. Now "poof" running rooted 902.

Need help going back to stock

I have a bionic that i system updated to 5.9.902 a couple days after i got it. Then i made the mistake of coming here and messing up my phone because i have no idea what I'm doing
I installed safestrap and did the whole noob step by step guide. Installed eclipse and a couple other roms. For some reason i wiped my internal and external storage. I have no backups of anything.
I've tried releasedroot, petes, rds lite with the 902 xml. I got stuck all the time with what seemed to be a driver issue.
I just want to return this thing to stock and stop messing with it
As of now when I press power i go straight to ap fast boot flash failure screen. I press power to power off and hold vol up and down to boot into recovery but just pick the normal boot option. Phone then boots into what seems to be my stock 902. I dont know if im rooted anymore.
If i could rid my phone of this flash failure and safestrap, i would be stupid happy
Anyone out there willing to help a total noob? If any more info is needed I'd be happy to provide
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using XDA
What error did you receive using rsdlite?
When you go into your phone settings..can you verify your on 902?
I'm at work now but it was some sort of usb failure. It got stuck on 1/22 mbm something.
Yes as of right now im on 902.
Is there a tutorial on how to completely remove usb drivers? Even though rsdlite says I'm connected, I don't see my phone drivers in device manager. That's where I think I'm going wrong but not really sure.

[Q] should i go for the .905 leak now or wait for official ota

I just got my bionic on saturday and i love it... i saw that .905 has leaked out... Now my question should i go for it or wait for the ota... my phone is not rooted as it runs very well with the current 902 rom... and If i do get the. 905 rom will i be able to update the software in the future
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk 2
If your not rooted yet or using custom roms, then I would just wait for the ota. I'm rooted and romed and haven't bothered myself because it's really just a radio update. However, I would root your phone just for all the other benifits.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk 2
Depends on how adventurous you're feeling
If the .905 release isn't the final, then you will be off the upgrade path. Getting back onto it isn't impossible, but it certainly is a pita.
At this point, it's been so long since the soak testers posted about their invite, I'd wonder if they will push another version out. Most everyone thought that .904 would be the next stable release, and now .905 seems less likely too.
Wish we had more info on what was going on behind the curtain with moto and vzw, but alas we do not.

I would very much like to upgrade to the ota 905 JUST so I can put the Eclipse V3.0 ROM on my Bionic. I am just not certain of what to do. I think I need to use RSD Lite woth the 902 "rollback". Then update to 905, root again with motofail, then install the ROM??
I have confidence in doing this onc I have all the right pieces. It's not like I havent done this before (HP Touchpa, Motorola Xoom, Toshiba Thrive). I just need to make sure I have all that I need and have the correct install instructions....
I have a rooted bionic with version 902 currently on it. Will upgrading OTA to 905 cause my phone to brick or should i just wait for a rooted version to come out?

I just received the .905 update and it broke my root. All I had to do to get it back was run motofail and I was up and running again.
I only use Titanium Backup, Root Explorer, and Rootdim as my root apps for now though.
I ran the update also. Didn't break root but destroyed 4g connectivity. Back to 902

I've been on Nitro33's Bionic-905deodexed-nitro33.zip for 2 days without a glitch. I upgraded from a stock 902 that I rooted. Had to get rid of safeboot and go with ClockWork mod recovery since the locked bootloader didn't like the file signature, but I put safeboot back on after the install, did my backup, and I've been runinig without a glitch since. I didn't even wipe data.

I tried to update to 905 from 902 and it keeps failing. Could that be happening because I had soft bricked my phone a while ago but was able to save it by finding the stock online?
I safe strapped back to my unsafe side. Waited a day to see if the update dropped. Nothing. So i downloaded it off phandroid's article about it. Flashed it after removing safe strap. No issues. Kept root. Flashed safe strap again. 4G radio is great now. I'm using Droid Theory's Axiom ROM and data connects immediately now. Used to take a minute or two after a boot. Loving this.

What does it say when it fails? If you can get it OTA, extract it out of your /Cache/ folder and Place the file on your SD card, like actual Micro SD. Power off. Hold both volume buttons and press the power button. You are in fastboot. Press volume down to highlight Recovery, then tap volume up to select it. Now do the option for update with zip. Choose the file. Watch it as it installs. When it fails it should state what was wrong.

it will only be there when it is first downloaded. Once you try to flash it it is wiped from the cache. So you would download it when prompted. Then when it finishes and asks to reboot, choose you'll reboot and install later, now you can extract it from the Cache folder.

Unrooting Bionic

I rooted my phone a while ago using Motofail and would like to update my phone so I can put the ICS update on it that was pushed out the other day. I am kinda a noob to hacking my phone and would really like some help with this. I have found the Motofail for ICS for once I install ICS.
http://droidmodderx.com/bionic/
This guy has a lot of tutorials on YouTube & needed files for you to download
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using xda app-developers app
Just download and install all parts of House of Bionic and follow the on-screen instructions. In order to un-root you need to choose option 2 then option 2 again. Check out the FAQ if you have trouble with ADB. Read the post very carefully and probably more than once but it is actually very simple.
http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/topic/4026-samurihls-house-of-bionic/
Thanks Samuri for this script, I have been telling everyone about it. Cheers!
?
does anyone know if the apps that hide the root will work or do I have to completely unroot the phone?
rooting the phone
as you most likely know motofail will root the phone, settings applications unknown sources, development usb debugging i also check leave screen on, then when usb is plugged in make sure charge only, have a good charge also on yer battery, if in 7 right click on motofail run as admin
i also like to have wifi already going and download root checker, this verifies, sometimes, dunno why, when i go to one rom or another i have to use one version of motofail or another version of it, also motooneclick worked for me also,
either way that'll get your phone rooted, i haven't done anything with ics, i did see a version of motofail for rooting ics afterwards
i'm on eclipse 2.2 which i just love, need anything else gimme hollar, skype allen-sec or yahoo allensecz
learning the bionic and this myself, been at it for about a month, learned a lot, just don't have 3g flowing yet,
so if you got that going on yours, hey gimme hollar
sincerely, mrbeav
Bare with please
I asked in a different thread but I got some things answered but not all exactly.
I keep hearing if I want to unroot my Bionic I need to use all the HoB files or FXZ. I will explain why I'm still a little confused.
I used Razrs Edge to root my bionic earlier this week after the OTA ICS update. Worked in like 3 minutes and put safestrap v3.05 on and made a backup of my stock OS. I want to restore and then remove safestrap but I'm confused on how to unroot. Since all the unroot methods seem to be based around HoB or motofail or using the Pete's files (which the links never seem to work)
What i need/want answered is how do I unroot it if I used the Razrs Edge method of rooting? With one of the methods i mentioned above work? If so, which one please and will i just follow the same method?
My reasoning is when/if JB OTA comes out I want to unroot to get it so i figured since I'm involved now, I might as well learn how to unroot it now and get it over with.
Thanks
Eric
