Hey guys,
I noticed that when setting up a hotspot and connecting wireless with my galaxy tab, the internet speed on the tab is veeeeery slow (takes at least 10 seconds to load the google frontpage), although when surfing directly with the razr i, the speed is fine. Anybody else having this issue or could please test it?
This hotspot thing worked flawlessly with my galaxy s/ galaxy tab combination. Still using same sim- card and provider (BASE Germany). I noticed that there are some more options in the hotspot menu like choosing the broadcast channel and the DHCP adress. Those options were not available with my old galaxy s. Tried different channles with no effect...
Any ideas?

Are you having reconnection issues with other WiFi devices on your network? Because this is usually a Wifi/router problem. I don't think it has anything to do with your galaxy tab.

I have the same problem and extremely unstable wifi performance and it looses connection even with very good reception. I havea netgear 3300 router with both 2.4 and 5 kHz networks and the only device that works badly is the tab. I have 20+ other devices with no problems at all of which 4 are other android devices.
I live in an area with 15-20 other wifi networks and perhaps it would help to disable all other networks but the settings for wifi is very basic and not many options exist. I have a DBT device with stock JMG FW.
JMG/JMF problem. I had none of this issue while my firmware was JK5. Now it sucks and still waiting for Gingerbread to come to Kies.
SAME PROBLEM WE HOPE IN GINGERBREAD
Hi. My Galaxy Tab SCH-i800 will have to be pried from my cold, dead fingers.
I have a wifi-only Droid X which I connect to my SCH-i800 via the mobile hotspot, but it does not get very good bandwidth. My Droid X has gotten speeds up to 10mb on various other networks, so I don't think the slow connection to the SCH-i800 is the Droid's fault. No matter what the 3g connection quality for the SCH-i800 is, be it 200kbs or 1mb, the Droid only gets 1/4 of it, maybe 1/2 on rare occasions. Experimenting with the encryption mode didn't seem to make much difference.
Is there an internal throttling to the mobile hotspot feature on the SCH-i800? Are there settings I could change which might allow my Droid X to enjoy a higher percentage of the 3g connection speed of the Galaxy Tab?
Thank you very much for any suggestions.
really? nobody has any ideas at all?
Hi,
Are you using the Android OS's built in Wifi share application? Have you tried other tethering software from the Market? Lots of those software are available. Maybe that solves the issue.
It is difficult to help because there is no analysis available. So you do not know which part is causing this. Tab Android Software or Motorola Android Software, current ROM on the devices, current kernels, current build.prop settings. You can only start checking the issues by trying out every combination one by one.
other wifi sharing apps
Hi! Thanks for your input. Do you mean I should try an app to replace the hotspot app on the galaxy tab? I didn't know that was even possible...
Has anyone managed to get this working on their note?
I want to use my notes internet connection to tether to my galaxy tab using bluetooth.
first, on the tab i put it in airplane mode and then turn on the bluetooth and pair up the devices.
on the note there is then an option for bluetooth tethering, which ive selected, and it is set to share the phones internet connection. the tab is then set to use this connection, however, i have no internet throughput.
any suggestions?
I can't help with your issue, beyond suggesting turning off airplane mode, but I can confirm that I bluetooth tether my Note to both my Transformer Prime and my MacBook Air, all the time.

Dave

Thanks, i did get a little bit further, but still no cigar... i took the tab out of airplane mode, but disabled wifi, and this actually resulted in a confirmation message on the note that it was connected to one device and sharing the internet connection. The little bluetooth symbol on both devices then goes from grey to blue, however, the tab still cant get any internet data.
my note is running paranoidandroid v. 02, and tab is on cm9
Well, I'm running rooted stock on my Transformer Prime, and Criskelo's V5 with Franco R6 kernel on the Note.
I'd suggest trying a Touchwiz based ICS ROM on the Note, to see if it is Paranoid related.

Dave

Hi all. i have a problem with my note. on some instances if i try downloading large files(for games or navigon maps, or just browsing on some sites, etc) after 10 15 seconds the wifi adapter shuts down/resets and the connection is lost. the adapter restarts and connects to the wifi in 2 3 seconds but is very frustrating to try downloading something many times before succeeding. anyone else has this problem? i searched the forum but didnt find anyone else with this problem. any ideas as to what is causing this problem?

Re: note wifi disconnecting
Hmm. Try changing the router wifi settings to transmit only b/g and retest.
Had the same issue, please tell us what version and kernel rom you are using?
->I had only when using CM, on stock GB and the XXLSC roms, I did not encounter this problem (also with cm 10.1 I seem to have a stable connection again)
**I do want to note, that it can't be possible to have a worse connection when on CM vs TW, but I have experienced it this way. So I can onlyh draw my conclusions from that...(I don't have any developer knowledge whatsoever)
Re: note wifi disconnecting
I would start by un plugging the router and plug it back in.

baseband version: N7000 xxlpt. kernel version N7000 xxlq3. android 4.0.3. This issue was present from day one. but never tried downloading large files from another router and my htc legend never had this issue with the router. will try to see if the router is the problem today and get back to you. tx to all in advance

Try this:
Dial *#0011#*
Press the menu button on service mode screen
Select wifi
Turn "wifi power save mode" off
It seems like this is only working on samsung roms. I'm on CM10.1 and I have to dial *#*#0011#*#* to access the service mode.
Also there is no wifi entry in the menu.
Re: note wifi disconnecting
just downloaded a 700 +mb file with no problem. i set the router to b and g only. seems it was the frickin router. tx a lot to all 4 ur support.

CHanging to b/g works
Hi,
I have router DIR 855 and had the same issue with my note. Wifi kept disconnecting whereas all the other devices at home stay connected. So it was clear that Note was the one that had the issue. Changing the 2,4ghz to b/g setting helped but I would like a stable connection on my 5 ghz band and that one keeps disconnecting. Any idea how to fix that? I am using NAS and the speed is much better when using 5ghz instead of the old crappy 2,4ghz.

For me too 5GHz is not stable on note... Why not use the router on Auto and then use the settings on NAS to use only 5GHz
Please explain

Hi,
Can you please elaborate on how to do that?
My router has two different bands and it cannot switch between the two. What do you mean by NAS setting?
Depends if your router can run simultaneous dual band.
Wicked wakelocks and WiFi issues
Just yesterday I started having wicked WiFi issues, where both 5GHz and 2.4GHz networks would connect, then immediately disconnect, then connect again a few seconds later for it to just do the same thing, over and over. It keeps sending reports everytime it does it. I haven't factory reset though, but I'm going to have to.
Also, I keep getting insane wakelocks. Android OS is the worst, causing 7h+ of wakelocks in a 10h day. Google Play Services is pretty bad too, around 6h+ in that same 10h day.
Anyone else having major issues like this with their Note5? I have the N920W8 model, which I can't really find any info about anywhere
Im having similar wifi issues. Initially trying to connect to my 5ghz N home network (wpa2 psk) connect attempt, drop, connect attempt drop rinse and repeat. After a while it connects and stays connected, however, connecting to any web pages is painfully slow (like a super slow dns lookup), and i frequently get failed web page loading errors or failed to download apps from teh app store. Wifi calling is useless in this state. The same thing happens on an open hotspot network at work (2.4ghz) and the corporate (5ghz n) network. The note will ususally eventually drop wireless and force me back onto LTE. I looked at my data counter after just 3 days, and had used 27gigs of LTE, which is more data than I've used on tmobiles network since last year. Had some spotty wireless issues with teh note 4 rev 3 5.1.1 as well prior, but only had that phone for about 10 days before swapping for teh note 5. Prior to that I had the nexus 6 and no wireless issues on the same networks.
J'ai le même problème avec le 5g damn!!!
Luckily i have a dual dualband router, I set up the alternate AP 2.4ghz N wpa2 psk and the phone appears to be working fine at the moment on that network.
I ended up factory resetting and it appears working for now. A static IP address (DHCP reserved in the router) seemed to help.
Another issue I have though is when disconnecting from WiFi and connecting to mobile data, it seems to have DNS resolution issues until I turn data off and then back on. Not sure if it's the phone or the carrier (Wind Mobile) but it's pretty consistent
Not seeing these issues on my W8.

I'm just having dreadfully slow WiFi on my att model, but it doesn't drop connection
Dial *#0011# and click "wifi settings" from the menu at the top right corner. Turn off power saving mode and restart the phone, see if that does the trick.
If not, google search "note 3 wifi issues" and/or "note 4 wifi issues"and look for answers there. In all likelihood the problems that are being experienced with Wi-Fi on the note 5 are similar to the Wi-Fi issues that the predecessors experience when they launched.

It's Lollipop. It's a known bug in the software since Nov 2014 and Google hasn't addressed it. I too had issues with my WiFi when I first purchased it. But I found the work around. The bug is in the security software. The WpA2-PSK with TKIPS or AES which is a catch all, reeks havoc on our WiFi chips. It doesn't allow the phone to have proper DNS addresses resulting in severely slow internet or dropped connections.
Solution: Change your security standard to WPA/WPA2-PSK without AES or TKIPS.

Is that a phone setting or a router setting?
Hey guys,
I've got an Australian Samsung note 5 that has wifi problems. It started not working all of a sudden so i decided to go along with it but after a while i felt the need to try and make it work again. So i went into recovery mode and factory resetted (thinking that it would help) but then on the boot up after i came to the setup screen and found out that i was screwed. The samsung setup screen doesnt let you go past the setup screen without any wifi. Please help, i wanted to post a thread but im new to this community so i am restricted.
Thanks
p.s wifi networks can be detected but only when the phone is held right next to the router.
I fixed same problem of wifi, its a setting in phone, but you need to root phone, its system setting in system folder.
Any updates on this? Im running one 920g completely stock and another 920g with hybrid n7 port v9. Both have this same issue.
