My GT-N7000 charging sometimes slow sometimes normal :( - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
Firstly, this is my first post and I would like to say sorry if there is any mistake.
My problem of posting this thread is that my Gnote N7000 is charging sometimes normal which is 3 hours from 0-100% but sometimes it takes about 6 hours from 0-100%. I have been seeing this for quite a few days already. I have also tried to flash some custom ROMs and my note is rooted.
My current system is:
ROM: Classic ROM v6
Kernel: Speedmod K13
Modem: XXLRK
It was charging normal last 2 days but today I realized it is back to slow charging again. Kindly post/share your comments if you have been in this and sorry if I am posting the existing thread. I have searched the forum for this before I am posting but couldn't find exact answer. Please guide me to the right track if I am doing wrong. Thanks all.

A lot of things can effect the charge time. If you charge it in your car, from your computer, from the plug connected to the mains also different ROMs and kernels can effect the charging. Don't worry about it.

also depends upon the applications running in the background when the charging takes place..

Thanks both for the comment. I mainly charge it straight from the AC plug only as it should be the fastest. I also use the original travel adapter that comes with the package. But one day I tried to use my colleague's galaxy nexus S charger which is the AC adapter(not USB) and found out that it just takes maximum 2:30 hours to charge fully from 0-100%. That strikes me in my head
And yes, I tried to close the wifi/3g, while I was charging but may be I should use some apps to check the background processes as the settings/applications doesn't show all.
Now, I just went back to stock 4.0.4 with Philz's rooted Kernel to see how it goes. Have been charging 1 hours (from 43% and now it's 72%). Looks better yet I will see how it goes. Will update the post again if this problem goes away. Thanks!!

Battery Usage
Then also would like to share and check with you all the battery usage of my Note as well. No matter which custom ROMs i use ( i have tried many from xda here) and realized the battery usage below.
No Wifi/3g - 1% drops per 8-9 mins
With Wifi on - 1% drops per 4 mins
With 3g on - 1% drops per 3-4 mins
And maximum screen on time I can have is about 4-4:30 hours only depends on the usage.
I am asking this because some people posted saying they can have 1% drop at 10mins with wifi/3g on. It's like double of mine
Is this normal at all? lolx...I am quite confused it has to do with the physical of my note but not the soft/kernal/rom issue?
So kindly share your usages as well

philz is a stock kernel.. so u should all ideal results

This is amazing So mine would have last only 6hours and 40 mins with wifi on as it's 1% per 4 mins. Are you on the stock as well or custom ROM? Have you freezed/removed some apps/bloats?

as i said,, i am on 4.0.4 Philz kernel.
yes i hve removed all the bloatwares.. no autosync.. no android backup.. and startup apps optimised using rom toolbox pro / autostarts..

I will try to remove the bloats as I got the list at this thread and will try out the rom toolbox as well. I have tried lite but haven't tried the pro version yet. Anyway, thanks for your help I hope that I can share more again on my finding.

Well..I have removed the bloatwares/unwanted apps already but this evening I was charging my phone from 40% again and it just back to slow charging again..:crying: Really confused. Because of my charger??? or becoz of 4.0.4 or kernel or..don't know.. banghead
Have anyone of you guys having this situation as well? Really curious. I can't spend 5 to 6 hours to charge my note to be ready

Yes, I am really doubting my charger now. Like I said, I was trying to charge it with other charger, which output is only 0.7mA(Galaxy Nexus S) but it is charged fully in about 2-3 hours.
I am even thinking of going back to GB or try JB ROMs outhere and see how it goes. Will it worth the try?
Or I should just go to SAMSUNG and buy a new one

First make sure that you can charge it well with other charger and then buy a new charger
Note charger will definitely charge faster than nexus charger
If it doesnt work, then think of changing rom

I have the same problem too. I try another cable then it charge fast from 5 to 100 percent in just 2 hours. Then few weeks after it charges slow again i dont know how to fix the charging.

You should change the charging port. I just changed mine 3 months ago then now its normal.

[Q] Problem with my new Vietnamese galaxy note battery!

Hello everyone, yesterday i figured a big problem with the battery of my 3 Weeks note.
I'm so upset and its driving me crazy.
I screen captured this. Battery life became so short it hardly works for 10 hours maximum if i don't use it much. Thanks
might want to get rid of that any.do app or change the settings. .
No i don't think any do is the problem as i downloaded it about 2 Weeks ago, and the problem started just yesterday.
what settings do you think i should modify?
well maybe any do wasn't the problem 2 weeks ago.. but it is the problem now.. why ask if u aren't going to take advice?
do you have the original samsung batterie? or an cheap rebuilt one? I've made some bad experience with cheap chinese batteries...
Do you have the stock kernel? In some old versions of Abyss Kernel i had bad batterie lives...
Dear bambo i did take advice and deleted the app. I've formatted the device 30 minutes ago as well.
Still having the same problem.
Mr David its the phone's original battery made in Japan finished in China
I took a screen shot after the formatting. Its just getting worse.
Thanks for helping guys
tap on the graph to expand it and post that.
Try badass battery monitor pro and see what may be keeping the phone awake, or waking it up often.
what graph?
I've had loads of batt drain problems, and found the batt stats app to be really misleading.
In nearly all cases a random app 'appeared' to be the culprit but further investigation yielded it as being some other app filling the system log (logcat). Try looking at something you installed more recently. Uninstall them one by one and check foe when the batt drain stops. That'll be your culprit I reckon.
The more complicated approach is to install something like catlog from Google Play and read through the system log and try to work it out that way. I used his approach to discover WidgetLocker was capping my juice even though AVG was being reported as the battery hog!

Go to market and install Better Battery Stats. It will give you all the wakelocks and the culprit apps and kernel that might be eating your battery and not allowing the device to go into deep sleep and conserve battery !
Thanks for helping guys, I formatted the phone yesterday.
I‘am afraid the battery has a hardware problem. I'll have to contact the store I think, thanks to ALLAH I have 1 year full warranty. But I've got 2 questions for you guys:
1- I charge the phone while sleeping, so it stays plugged about 4 hours after its fully charged. Does that shorten the battery ‘a life?
2- Does the Android get viruses? Cuz if its not a battery problem, it might be a virus though.

-1- No, dont worry about your batt if u plugged more.
-2- I dont know about virus, but what i know if u install crack apps its maybe a virus.

[Q] Problem with charging my Note

Just a little background..
I bought this SG Note last April and I haven't rooted it yet because it still has its warranty. I upgraded it to ICS when it came out here in the Philippines and I have issues with ICS because it often overheats when I talk to someone on the phone and when I charge it. I don't have that problem with GB.
Anyway, I recently went to Samsung's service center to get it checked because I had other problems with it (it's fixed now, thank god). I told them about the battery which drains very fast. They replaced it with a new one last Wednesday. I don't have any problems with it anymore.
Here's the problem, I charged my phone last night and when I woke up this morning, it stopped charging because apparently it was TOO hot. I didn't charge it again until now. The problem is, it charges so freaking slow. I charged it at 6pm (with 43% battery) and when I check up on it at 8pm, it went up by 1%. What seems to be the problem?
It's still plugged in since 6pm and it's now 11pm here with 80% battery. Ugh. What's the problem :crying:
Are you using the original charger?
first..if your on stock ICS... don't compare your experience when your with stock GB and with ICS, because there are too many reports (unaccounted though), that ICS pretty much sucks on the battery side thing.
Anyway, I bet your in stock kernel right?, try to see if you can flash a custom one. Usually heating problems has two sides of the coin.
Either:
1. You have a defective charger
2. It's time for you to explore other realms of possibilities, e.g. root, flashing a custom rom (for better UI and performance) and a custom kernel to handle your charging issues. There are custom kernels that helps voltages and keep your phone charged up fast.

Yes and no. I used the original charger earlier but seeing that it was charging so slow, I used my Huawei's charger

If I rooted my phone, that will void the warranty. Are there any other alternatives?
Try to use the original charger
Using other chargers can even damage your battery
And even though you root your phone and void your warranty, once you flash a stock rom and reset flash counter, you will get back your warranty
rooting your phone will void your warranty BUT Samsung is only keen in checking your binary counter (if it's raised to 1 or highter)... After rooting, you can flash ChainFire's TriangleAway App to restore your counter back to 0.
Other alternatives than rooting, is first.. buy an original charger and go from there.. Drain your phone down to 5% and charge it back again till it's full and observe if it's going to be hot again. Simple as that.
Also, if you have other wall outlets, do also try to use other ones. Who knows maybe the one your using your phone to charge on to, might be close to being short circuited, and henceforth that might fry your phone in the long run. See if there are other wall outlets in your house you can use to charge your phone WITH a brand new charger.

I'll still weigh in my options in rooting my phone. I'm too scared. I might brick it.

Try flashing hydracore kernel
You will be automatically rooted and thats a safe kernel
You can even move to any other roms from this kernel directly

Is there a thread here somewhere about hydracore?
I want to know more about it from people who used this.
-make sure that you're not only using the original charger, but that you are using the original micro usb cable. The note can detect if you are not using Google an original cable and slow down charging.
-is the replacement battery a Samsung battery or a third party one?
-depending on how hot the battery got the first time, it may have damaged the battery and thus affect the charging.

Battery problem

Hi Folks, I hve had my note for 1 year now and haven't had any battery problems until 2 days ago when I flashed a jb rom. All was fine for about 10 hours when I started to recharge the battery again that went fine, charged to 100% and unplugged, the phone said it was at 100%. After another few hours the phone cut out, no warning just cut out. I could get the phone back on but only when plugged into the charger. So, heres my problem, phone says battery is fully charged but when I unplug the charger it cuts out now. if I boot in to recovery with out the charger it stays on for hours. if I try to start the phone up normally with out charger it doesn't work. I have tried another battery again it started fine for almost a day then the same problems again. I have tried several kernels and roms in case it was one of those that was causing the problem but its the same every time. Im not a newb when it comes to flashing roms some im 100% sure its all ok in that department. any help would be appreciated.
thanks
Graham
My note is also about 10 months old. I want to know if my battery stats. I feel like my phone is giving me short time.

What really matters here is your screen on time (I can get around 4h30 with heavy use). I also see you have a few notifications so there might be some draining apps running in the background (like that *** Facebook app which is constantly running in the background even with notifications off). In any case BBS should help you identify the "rogue" app (if any). Also I don't use Google Now as it's kind of a battery killer.
this problem is same with me...after 1 year use gnote
and this is battery problem..i dont know whats is causing it...
i try to enter recovery mode and ..battery is good..almost 4 hours screen on recovery mode
but if I try to start the phone up normally phone is reboot after 1minute in homescreen android
trying with different rom jb ..same problem ..
after replace my battery ..problem is gone..
@strachg If the phone used to work well before you flashed JB I'd recommend going back to ICS to see if the problem persists. If it disappears the reason is JB which would not supprise me since all JB roms for the Note are not really bug free. If the phone continues to behave like you described and changing the battery does not help either I'd say it's a hardware failure.

Hi, Yeah I already tried going back to ics and it was just the same, it just seems like a bit of coincidence and really annoying lol. The only thing I can think off that is causing it is as you say that its a hardware fault and it must be overcharging the battery and breaking it. If it was JB that was causing it im sure I wouldn't have been the only one by now.
thanks
Graham
how did you install jb? Was it clean on safe kernel? You havent eliminated the possibility of software issues.
Qazibazit, it looks ok.
Guideline 3,5-4,5 hours on screen time is normal (if you play games can be less, thus is from full to 1%). Total standby time, usually more then 24 hours is normal.
If you have a lot less, go read ahalfords sticky on wakelocks. All you need to know to optimize battery.

Hi baz 77 yeah using safe kernel, tried a few actually. And using utackas. Version of paranoid android now again tried a few Roms. Everything was wiped and redone the process about 20 times. I looked through all the roms. And kernel threads and no one has had this problem. New battery coming so will see how it goes now.

I don't think you quite understand this app.
That time up top that I'm pretty sure you're reading isn't your wakelock time (in fact, your wakelock time seems to be pretty low as far as power consumption goes). It's the amount of time that the app has detected you've been off the wall (since it doesn't record statistics until you go off the wall).
Your battery life is basically at the upper ceiling of someone using a smartphone as a smartphone. I don't quite see why you're still complaining about battery life, especially after people pointed out you were fine in your last thread on this.

Are you fing kidding me?
30% drain over 11 hours? With 1 hour screen time? Your awake time is literally like 2 mins more than your screen time. There us NOTHING wrong with your battery stats or your battery life.
Unless you're using your phone in Airplane mode and disabling Google Now.

Yeah, tell them it's their policy to work on rooted phones or just flash a rom.zip if you're s-off.
I used to get that error with certain charging cables. Bought a good cable. Made sure I plug into a real outlet rather than a usb port on pc. All is well. That error is totally common with sub par charging cables.

Yup... never use the USB port on your computer (500 mAmps) and never use a sub-standard and LONG usb cable (always keep the usb cable length to the minimum you need)...

Yerv, any updates on this today? I'm curious/worried about this. Sounds like what has happened to some folks that ended up with a brick.

[Q] Ridiculous Battery Drain

Dear People of XDA,
I have this issue since a few days and I don't know how to solve it. My battery drains out after 10 min while using wifi and the phone will shut down of course. Leaving it for about an hours time, some power will be regained and I can continue using my device. It all started when I reverted back to stock ICS from cm 10.1. I thought flashing Carburano's ROM might help but apparently not, same problem. I know batterys don't always go nuts but when they do, it's progressive. Any one know what might be wrong?
Regards....

Use the better battery stats app and check which app running in the background is draining your battery without allowing the device going into sleep....
but if the drain is like what you have described....then it is time to move on to another battery....
just a word.....Kernel is something (other things being Baseband) which takes care of the battery performance....so maybe you can try changing this and check which one suits you well.
CHECK IN THE FORUM TO FIND INFO ABOUT APPS LIKE GREENIFY...
Hope this helps you

Thinking it like this: the phone probably can drain a fully charged battery in 10 minutes if you turn on every major component, like vibration, flash, display to 100%, gps, wifi, 3G and what else... But having just wifi on and getting a phone shutdown in 10 min seems excessive. This would suggest your battery is not charging properly. This can result from end-of-lifetime battery only charging to some 10-25% of original capacity, broken charger, battery self-discharge and probably some other reasons I could not think of right now.
The best solution, most likely, is to replace your battery (like SREEPRAJAY above already suggested), but if you like to troubleshoot you could try to charge your phone via USB to reduce the charging current (Li-ion batteries show a lower voltage during charging with lower charge current until 100% is reached). This way you may be able to charge to higher capacity. Also, it may hint that some kernel might work better for you, but I'm not sure about this, since I don't remember what part of Android (SW, charger HW or what) handles the charging logic, i.e. what triggers the charging actually to stop.
Thanks...I'll try the suggestions

well maybe your battery isn't so good anymore or you must try also other roms like jelly cream and those kind of roms and if you wanna know the rom slimbean and cm10.2 from tonyp are also pretty smooth and battery saving but cm10.2 is sadly not working camera still but further it's damm good
Hi I have experienced some issues with battery draining, when I check battery stats it says that most of the battery is drained from Android . media. Service... I have no idea how to work out or disable whatsoever is using those services.. Btw I'm on cm10.1 latest nightly
