Hi. I would like to announce Wassapp, a non-official WhatsApp client for PC. This application basically allows any user to chat with his WhatsApp contacts from a computer (using a phone number that has been previously registered in WhatsApp, using a smartphone or any other method).
Start chatting is as easy as introducing your phone number, your password (depends on which device you registered your number in WhatsApp), and adding your contacts.
If the phone number was registered on an Android phone, the password is the phone's IMEI.
If the phone number was registered on an iPhone, the password if the WiFi MAC address.

Wassapp is already available for Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 8.
Linux and OS X versions will be available soon (a Mac Mini is needed for proper developing and testing, donations are welcome!).

Greetings.
I really would like to see this for mac. =)
Cool, really looking forward to the OS X app!
.....
I hope we can have a version for OSX soon. First we need to get some money, then find a cheap Mac Mini to buy it

OSX version is on its way! Development goes slowly, as I don't have many chances to test it on a real Mac, but today I was able to run it and login with my number
totally doesn't work for me
W7, I chose North America, and entered my IMEI (as safeguard, I double checked and enter twice) as instructed. No contacts at all, tried Google import, no show, tried adding friend's phone number, don't show either.......
What have I done wrong?

Don't try to use WhatsApp in your mobile phone while Wassapp is running (or close WhatsApp to use your mobile phone safely). WhatsApp server doesn't allow simultaneous connections so it drops the oldest connection. If you start using WhatsApp in your phone while being logged in Wassapp, WhatsApp will reconnect (as it will detect it was disconnected) and this reconnection will cause Wassapp to disconnect.

A new version of Wassapp has been released. It implements the new WhatsApp protocol so it's now fully working again!
Also it fixes a problem with contacts that were not added
Great stuff, dont now how long ive been looking for something like that!
And I have a wierd question: Are you the waninkoko from the wii modding scene or am I just confused?
Cheers,

Great app but doesn't import any contacts or groups from current whatsapp account.
Does the app support whatsapp groups?
I won't work on the Wii U, I left the scene forever.
WhatsApp doesn't store any contact list in their servers. They just take your contacts from your contact list and show you which ones use WhatsApp. You need to add contacts manually or import them from your Google account.
Hmm is group chat working?
This is great. It worked perfectly. But I whish there was a way to have two connections simulateously (PC and mobile). I had to put my mobile on "flight mode" to stop whatsapp from trying to reconnect.
By the way, are you the same Waninkoko as in the PS3 scene?

Does anyone know of an app where my g1 can track another g1 via gps? Basically, if Latitude would actually update for me, that would work. Im still playing with it to get it to work but it seems to have problems updating regularly.
Anyhow, I'm just wondering if there was an alternative to Latitude so my wife and I can see where each other is. No I don't suspect cheating, I just hate having to answer calls on my way home from work to hear "Where are you so I know when to start dinner?" If I share my location, she knows right where I am and I can continue streaming pandora in the car.
Anyone wanna try to tackle this if there is no good alternative? I need to find a "Android Development for Dummies" book.
You could try Glympse. It's concept is a bit different though: It allows to send a text-message or e-mail with a link that one can use to track you. You would have to do that every time you start your way home though. It also is more real-time than Latitude, therefore draining the battery more quickly. Either way I recommend you to give it a try.

It was exclusive to android i think with iphone coming later, so its a quality app, no question.
According to the website of GLYMPSE , the app is available for Windows mobile phones too.
It says you can download it on the marketplace for windows mobile
I am looking half an hour now for that program, but cant find it..

I used this for almost 3 days now. It's the best AIM app for Android by far, but it drains the battery fast. Besides that, it's great.
It seems a little laggy and definitely uses more memory/system resources than eBuddy. I'm leaving it installed, but I'll be sticking with eBuddy for daily IM usage.
It uses a lot of battery, and signs out when the phone goes to sleep. I constantly find myself having to re-login.

It keeps me logged in 24/7 (unless I'm on the phone and I lose 3g connectivity, but then it would log me back in when I get off the phone and regain internet connection), but then again, I am running 96mb swap.
keeps me logged in...I have it excluded with Advanced task manager...then again, I haven't put the phone down since I installed it...lol...
but so far the best AIM app...doesn't use the dictionary unfortunately so typing can get annoying, not sure if that's a KingKlick Eclair rom issue or the app itself...but all in all 4/5 is def a proper rating...could easily be 5/5 if I could remove the damn livestream and its tabs completely..not a lot of settings though.
I keep it excluded aswell in Advanced Task Manager, and I've been using it all day, and it's gone out on me multiple times, and I spent a good 6 hours with full 3g coverage, so I know it wasn't a matter of losing data. Even or wifi I lose it, and I have wifi lock on aswell to keep it from disabling while going to sleed/stand by. And I have a 128mb swap, not sure what that would have to do with it logging on or off...
I've been using HiAIM beta ever since I got my phone. It doesn't disconnect me unless I'm on the phone (which is normal). I like the interface a lot more than anything else I have used (I turn off bubble-style chat).
nice! great that aim finall released for android. i am currently using helloIM which is great and i think better at this point than this one. but helloIM is no longer supported by its devs i think, so i have a felling official AIM will be the one to use for the future as they update it more.
I heard on the news that Facebook chat will be available through 3rd party IM apps like yahoo messenger and AIM.....can anyone confirm this?

It looks nice, however it is a mega battery drainer, my phone also heats up quite a bit but that may be because I'm listening to music at the same time. Does anyone know if messages sent through this application to cellphones count as messages or date?
[AIM can also send text messages, im wondering if they count as texts or not]

It looks almost identical to Community Hero Mix, but slightly different (especially the battery indicator).
iVisionX01, how did you get your data indicator to display "H" instead of "3G"? Or is that included with the ROM?
My apologies gentlemen I have a Nexus One. I'm using CyanogenMOD 5.0 w/ the Smooth Black Bar Theme.
Interesting, I didn't know that the H was included with CM5. I'm requesting that he also make that change for the next release of CM4.
Hi,
This is my first post on the forum, but I often read it, nice job!!
The subject is very explicit, does anybody knows if there is Kies for Mac?, or maybe in a future?
TIA.
Jesus.
that's a tough one....
you'll be better off running the windows emulation to get kies installed in your Mac
truth is... you are not missing anything by not installing Kies
i don't even use Kies
i did install it, but after finding out what it does, i've no use for it
except to check for official firmwares
but we have so many firmwares available from samsung firmwares.com that it has become totally useless to me
all my syncing is done via my gmail account
and music/video is just drag and drop direct to the phone
i'm sure they will release a Mac version in the near future.

Apple is notorious for blocking Syncs. Palm Pre initially was able to sync, Apple updated software to block then -> Palm created a workaround -> Apple block -> it might have repeated after that.
I doubt there is an official way to natively, and seamlessly sync via iTunes. Some 3rd party software...maybe, still no guarantees.
@OP, you can look into doubletwist, it has a very iTunes look/feel to it, will allow you to sync Podcasts, Music & Android Apps (sorry, no video AFAIK):
Main Page: http://www.doubletwist.com/dt/Home/Index.dt
Mac download link: http://www.doubletwist.com/dt/Download/DownloadMac.dt
if the goal is to Sync the music you have purchased in iTunes to your SGS phone, then it's rather simple
just download all the music off iTunes to your hard drive, and use a AC3 or MP3 converter to remove the Digital Right Management, then you can use the music on any device you want

Part of the reason why I hate Apple. Seriously what did they get by doing that? If you don't want to officially support syncing with other devices, don't. But intentionally blocking it is evil and unethical. /off-topic

hello i`m from Brazil, I bought my i9000 and outdoor kies not appear for me to buy the apps, says it does not support the country in which I am.
Sorry my english.
Downloaded Kies today from samsungmobile.co.uk and got hold of copies of XP (with SP3) and Parallels 6 and VMFusion. Runs under Leopard no problem on Parallels 6 but could not get it to work with VMFusion. Don't ask where I got the copies - seek and you will find.
I want it for Linux.
Top tip...
Don't try upgrading your firmware using Parallels 6.
Kies got to the switch to install mode (yellow screen on 'phone warning you not to disconnect) and at this point it seems that Parallels can't see the USB driver any more when the 'phone is in recovery mode...
It's possible if I had fiddled around in Win7 device manager uninstalling and re-plugging the 'phone it might have worked, but I gave up and used a PC.
Oh and of course I had a moment of panic that I would break the 'phone disconnecting it, but pressing and holding the power got it back again.
You can't really blame Parallels, as I have had all sorts of problems getting a working USB driver on two different PCs that would let Odin see the 'phone.
Aren't Samsung drivers so reliable and east to use
If your Samsung is running Windows Mobile or Android OS take a look at SyncMate - it allows syncing devcies running these OSs with Mac for free

This should not be necessary as long as you don't use any files from unknown sources. For example only use the market to install applications, only copy files from your pc to your phone (they will be scanned on your pc), and as usual be careful for attachments in your mailbox. Check where they come from and if you receive "sexy girls.bat" from anyone (even a friend) don't open it...
You can always connect phone in mass storage mode and run kaspersky on the two memory cards .

i use 'MyLookout' its a free app (also a paid version) and everytime something new is put onto the phone, MyLookout will automatically scan it for malware, its a really good app.
also another advantage of this app, is you can do backups to the cloud.
And another thing. If your device was to go missing, you can simply log on to the website MyLookout.com from your PC or another Phone, there you can switch on GPS, track the Phone down, perform a full wipe, lock the device, Sound an alarm on the phone which cannot be turned off.
and the best feature, is you can select an option so the app will not uninstall, so the thief who took your phone, cannot uninstall the app. Meaning you can always keep tracking it down
you can do all this from any PC / Mobile
Dr Web antivirus light is nice too

No just don't install sketchy apps.
Then again I don't use AV on my PC's either...it has proven useless in the past as it doesn't keep up with the attackers quickly enough. These days I go with a 'perimeter defense', keep the hostile code from running on the machine in the first place rather than running every damn thing and counting on some program to be current enough to save me.
Kaspersky Mobile Security is the best
Though i'm not using it right now.
I use lookout and find it excellent, though as others rightly say your phone is not nearly as vulnerable as your pc and by following common sense behaviour you should be totally fine. Give lookout a try as it includes lost phone detection and wiping too.

Why should I care about malware when I flash the phone every two weeks!!
(sometimes less time)
I don't, because I want to maintain maximum performance and battery life. Plus I'm not sure how effective any of the products are.
I must say though, I am a lot more careful about reading permissions and installing untested apps these days, after reading about the droid-dream malware etc.
nipip: lol true, same here
What about NetQin
Galaxy S XWJVB
And where to get kaspersky from? its not in the market
Galaxy S XWJVB
I use Lookout and have been very happy with it. Sure it may be a placebo at this moment. But as smartphones become the net access tool of choice for more people, malware will get worse as time goes by.
Plus I feel those people who say they can avoid trouble on their phones and even PCs by just not downloading "dodgy" code are massively underestimating the asshats out there and the ways that harmful code can be hidden. If you open a PDF or even a website, you ARE vulnerable.

ddoes anyone know if there was/is/will ever be a whatsapp program for WP7? i used to use this a lot when i had android on my WP7 and i do miss it. the website mentions that it is cross-platform, but doesnt mention anything about wp7 (or windows mobile for that matter) i have read a few articles about adress book integration being the issue, but may other things such as whatsapp not having any wp7 developers, and a beta versions with no contact integration, but i dont trust any of the sources
so i am wondering if the good people at XDA can clear things up
According to the developers of WhatsApp there are no plans to support WP7 until various aspects of the OS are changed/updated. It's to do with the way apps are run on the OS.
Because WP7 apps are run in a 'sandbox' style environment WhatsApp cannot access the WP7 built in contacts app etc so the developers are waiting for that level of functionality before creating the app.

that was what i had read elsewhere. there were some suggestions about pulling the contacts direct from windows live via a http request, but not being a developer i dont know how this would work. i guess i will just have to wait and see
The Mango update should sort that all out, so i guess we all just have to wait.
Yeah we waiting Mango and Whatapp both
after that its boost wp7 market share
I just saw on the Whatsapp homepage that they are looking for a C+ progammer/debugger. So that could mean they will soon work on a version for Windows Phone!
Here is to hoping
The missing piece for me on the Window mobile platform is only Whatsapp. Once this is sorted, and I hope that Mango does what it needs to for the developers at WhatsApp, I'll then ditch iOS and Android.
Does anyone have "connections" to any of the developers at WhatsApp? I wish they would communicate their intent.
Yes, Whatsapp should provide some updates on whether a WP7 app is being made.
Also Microsoft should pull their socks up with WP7. It's been utterly disappointing. I've thrown more money to Apple to use the iPhone because of Microsoft's poor execution of the WP platform.
i am also waiting for Whatsapp for wp7 i have seen new cross platform app Pingme its nice its support for wp7 is coming soon
u can check the site www.pingme.net
WhatsApp is definitely coming and sooner than you think!

Whatsapp for all
unfortunately The reason many of you wont be able to see this is in marketplace is because your Windows Live ID hasn't been added by the author to the permissions page.
But good news is that it's coming sooon
I am attaching a file if any one interested. Happy Xapping.
works perfect on it i found it in the windows 7 phone section
Works perfect, i installed the .xap! Great to have it, more reasons to stay on WP7!
its working Fine on My HD2 Mango
Works great however it has some issues with push notificiations.
When I get a new message, instead of a contact name showing with the message, I get "Phoenix". Ah well its a BETA, after all
Installed and quite satisfied ... maybe this beta it's at an early status of development, missing many functionalities already present in the other available platforms, but I think that beta 1.0 is surely better of ... nothing, isn't?
BTW, has someone tried to add a sound effect when receiving a message?
Is it possible to change in any way the status message?
whatsapp is out but only for wp7.5 devices and the wp7 devices that will be upgraded to wp7.5.
