Hi,
This is my first post on the forum, but I often read it, nice job!!
The subject is very explicit, does anybody knows if there is Kies for Mac?, or maybe in a future?
TIA.
Jesus.
that's a tough one....
you'll be better off running the windows emulation to get kies installed in your Mac
truth is... you are not missing anything by not installing Kies
i don't even use Kies
i did install it, but after finding out what it does, i've no use for it
except to check for official firmwares
but we have so many firmwares available from samsung firmwares.com that it has become totally useless to me
all my syncing is done via my gmail account
and music/video is just drag and drop direct to the phone
i'm sure they will release a Mac version in the near future.

Many thanks for the reply AllGamer, I come from iPhone world and I miss a tool to sync everything, including apps. Actually I sync with my google account contacts, calendars, etc..., but not apps, pictures, videos... :-(
Cheers!
Jesus.
I import photos and videos using Picasa and sync my music using Windows Media Player. There must be an option to sync music using Itunes.

Apple is notorious for blocking Syncs. Palm Pre initially was able to sync, Apple updated software to block then -> Palm created a workaround -> Apple block -> it might have repeated after that.
I doubt there is an official way to natively, and seamlessly sync via iTunes. Some 3rd party software...maybe, still no guarantees.
@OP, you can look into doubletwist, it has a very iTunes look/feel to it, will allow you to sync Podcasts, Music & Android Apps (sorry, no video AFAIK):
Main Page: http://www.doubletwist.com/dt/Home/Index.dt
Mac download link: http://www.doubletwist.com/dt/Download/DownloadMac.dt
if the goal is to Sync the music you have purchased in iTunes to your SGS phone, then it's rather simple
just download all the music off iTunes to your hard drive, and use a AC3 or MP3 converter to remove the Digital Right Management, then you can use the music on any device you want

Part of the reason why I hate Apple. Seriously what did they get by doing that? If you don't want to officially support syncing with other devices, don't. But intentionally blocking it is evil and unethical. /off-topic

hello i`m from Brazil, I bought my i9000 and outdoor kies not appear for me to buy the apps, says it does not support the country in which I am.
Sorry my english.
Downloaded Kies today from samsungmobile.co.uk and got hold of copies of XP (with SP3) and Parallels 6 and VMFusion. Runs under Leopard no problem on Parallels 6 but could not get it to work with VMFusion. Don't ask where I got the copies - seek and you will find.
I want it for Linux.
Top tip...
Don't try upgrading your firmware using Parallels 6.
Kies got to the switch to install mode (yellow screen on 'phone warning you not to disconnect) and at this point it seems that Parallels can't see the USB driver any more when the 'phone is in recovery mode...
It's possible if I had fiddled around in Win7 device manager uninstalling and re-plugging the 'phone it might have worked, but I gave up and used a PC.
Oh and of course I had a moment of panic that I would break the 'phone disconnecting it, but pressing and holding the power got it back again.
You can't really blame Parallels, as I have had all sorts of problems getting a working USB driver on two different PCs that would let Odin see the 'phone.
Aren't Samsung drivers so reliable and east to use
If your Samsung is running Windows Mobile or Android OS take a look at SyncMate - it allows syncing devcies running these OSs with Mac for free

Recently some of the system dumps from the upcoming Motorola Sholes/Tao/Droid hit the Developer community, and they have been trying to piece the puzzle together of what the Motorola Sholes/Tao/Droid is all about. We got our hands on a new app which looks like it will be front and center when the device finally hits the shelves, Motorola Phone Portal.
Those that remember using the Motorola Phone Tools app to hack their Motorola’s back in the day (I’m getting all “Ahmad – Back in the Day” about my v600, v810, and RAZR) will instantly recognize this little gem, but it’s been updated for Android and provides some pretty cool functionality. Basically, Motorola Phone Tools (MPP) serves as an all-in-one phone manager that allows users to easily view, edit, create, delete, and play their contacts, ringtones, photos, wallpaper, and media. The key difference now is, the app is web-based and you log into your phone from directly from your browser! No installing “modems” and drivers on your Windows machine (painful), just fire up the app and press the “Connect with Wi-Fi button. When you press the button, the app prompts you to either turn on Wi-Fi, or connect over USB. For this experiment, I chose Wi-Fi.
MPP lets you add/edit/delete/browse your contacts, photos, bookmarks, browser history, and media in an easy-to-use interface. Playing media directly from the device in the browser worked very well, and the picture viewer/slideshow feature is pretty damn cool. So with MPP you’ll be able to play/show-off your media anywhere from any browser. If Moto adds a Social/Sharing aspect to this, they will have a winner on their hands.
So there you have it kids, a little taste of what’s to come with the Sholes/Tao/Droid. The original Moto Phone Tools was a pretty handy app (when it worked), and the new MPP looks to be just as functional, if not more so. I am sure it will help a lot of users manage their contacts/media/content when it gets released, and the ability to do slideshows and play media from your device directly from your browser is pretty slick. I hope Moto adds more features and functionality to it as time goes on, but this seems like a sign of good things to come. Grab the .apk file below and play away!

This is a cool little phone manager app that works really well with Hero and G1. It's an app that runs a webserver from your phone that you can access over Wifi from any browser on the same network.
It allows you to:
* view/add media on your phone
* view your call log
* read and send sms from the browser
* and more!
Works with any OS - anything with a browser should work. Only works over wifi with Hero, no USB connection is possible it seems.
I replaced as much Motorola branding as I could and replaced it with HTC stuff to make it a nicer experience for HTC fanboys
Download HTCportalv2:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/vpbxzo
Changelog
v2 - Changed more Moto references to HTC
Now if only this would let me control music playback.
Still, looks super, and nice to be able to manage over wi-fi instead of usb
You mean playback music on your pc from your phone? Hmm, I think it does allow that!
But I'm at work at the moment without wi-fi so can't confirm..
I think it lets you pull files, so you could listen on your pc, but I want to control my phone from my pc.
Basically, my stereo is the other side of my room from my desktop, and I'm lazy so if I could just play music from my pc, through the phone, into my amp, then I wouldn't have to get up
Also, I wonder if this means we can send files over wi-fi to web-enabled phones?
Have you tried it out yet? I can't give it another go until I'm home, but I thought that was possible. Look at the quote:
So with MPP you’ll be able to play/show-off your media anywhere from any browser.

You can certainly run a slideshow on your pc, from the photos on your phone. Pretty sure music is playable too. Give it a go
As for sending files, yes you can, but I think you might be restricted to media files.
How can I get it work with usb?
Not sure if that's possible, I was trying too. If you turn off wifi and try to connect it says it can connect over usb too, but I couldn't get it to connect. That might only work on a Motorola phone. Everything works over wifi though
That is awesome!!
This app is awesome!!!
Everyone should check it out!!!!
Nice work Pookie!
Cool, glad you like it!
I checked out the music thing, it lets you browse the music you have on your SD card, and you can click to play, but it plays the music on your phone instead of on the computer. That's what you wanted right Branwen?
Here's another screenshot:
Looks like a great app but I can't conect in my browser, anybody els having troble

same network, can see phone and pc in the ip list in my router.
Tryed to disable my firewall and got the same thing.

I really can't think what could be causing it apart from some kind of issue with your network/ports/firewalls
For mine, at the initial setup it would not work at all when I clicked the start for wifi connection. It was only after I unplug my usb cable did it work...or I might had a huge lag.

Are you sure you're wifi is enabled?
Have you tried pinging the IP address from your PC's command prompt?
If you can't even ping it you'll know it's a firewall/port issue...
This was cool! Thanks for your effort!

im having the same issues in general with my hero: my laptop and the hero are connected to the same wifi network, both work fine, but they don't see each other. no ping, no ssh, no http no nothing. from my cable connected (to the wifi router) pc, everything works just splendid. i actually blame either my router (fritzbox, but some lowend version) or my laptop/ubuntu on my laptop for this behaviour, but i actually never investigated in that. whenever i want to connect from my laptop to my phone i hop via my pc, works fine.
It looks like quite a good contact manager also.
And yeah this is just what I wanted for music playback!
should i use ANTIvirus and ANTI malware?
on my PC i have kaspersky and Malware bytes
should i have something similar on my android phone?
This should not be necessary as long as you don't use any files from unknown sources. For example only use the market to install applications, only copy files from your pc to your phone (they will be scanned on your pc), and as usual be careful for attachments in your mailbox. Check where they come from and if you receive "sexy girls.bat" from anyone (even a friend) don't open it...
You can always connect phone in mass storage mode and run kaspersky on the two memory cards .
jje
cheers
both good bits of advice
- stuff from good sources a great idea ---sexy girls.bat
-also the scan with kaspersky was a great idea
What about antibanner. since my new update every frickin flash banner is annoying me. I'm sure they weren't there before

I'm resurrecting this thread since I read the article on here about dodgy virus market apps
I couldn't find it again to post it.
But do I need a security program on my phone
if so whats good or are there any free ones?
cheers
i use 'MyLookout' its a free app (also a paid version) and everytime something new is put onto the phone, MyLookout will automatically scan it for malware, its a really good app.
also another advantage of this app, is you can do backups to the cloud.
And another thing. If your device was to go missing, you can simply log on to the website MyLookout.com from your PC or another Phone, there you can switch on GPS, track the Phone down, perform a full wipe, lock the device, Sound an alarm on the phone which cannot be turned off.
and the best feature, is you can select an option so the app will not uninstall, so the thief who took your phone, cannot uninstall the app. Meaning you can always keep tracking it down
you can do all this from any PC / Mobile
Dr Web antivirus light is nice too

No just don't install sketchy apps.
Then again I don't use AV on my PC's either...it has proven useless in the past as it doesn't keep up with the attackers quickly enough. These days I go with a 'perimeter defense', keep the hostile code from running on the machine in the first place rather than running every damn thing and counting on some program to be current enough to save me.
Kaspersky Mobile Security is the best
Though i'm not using it right now.
I use lookout and find it excellent, though as others rightly say your phone is not nearly as vulnerable as your pc and by following common sense behaviour you should be totally fine. Give lookout a try as it includes lost phone detection and wiping too.

Why should I care about malware when I flash the phone every two weeks!!
(sometimes less time)
I don't, because I want to maintain maximum performance and battery life. Plus I'm not sure how effective any of the products are.
I must say though, I am a lot more careful about reading permissions and installing untested apps these days, after reading about the droid-dream malware etc.
nipip: lol true, same here
What about NetQin
Galaxy S XWJVB
And where to get kaspersky from? its not in the market
Galaxy S XWJVB
I use Lookout and have been very happy with it. Sure it may be a placebo at this moment. But as smartphones become the net access tool of choice for more people, malware will get worse as time goes by.
Plus I feel those people who say they can avoid trouble on their phones and even PCs by just not downloading "dodgy" code are massively underestimating the asshats out there and the ways that harmful code can be hidden. If you open a PDF or even a website, you ARE vulnerable.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
Concerning to performance issue, I do not think it's a good idea to use an antivirus app
Hi Guys,
I just posted my first App the Android Market (so please be nice) & thought I would let you guys know
It's called UDPro (UDP Pro) - Info copied from the Android Market
Remotely control your Windows PC from your phone.
Features included at the moment are:
1) Control Windows Media Player
2) Send a popup message
3) Lock PC
4) Log Off PC
5) Shutdown PC
6) Reboot PC
7) Hibernate PC
8) Sleep PC
9) Real Commands - Like running from cmd.exe - Pro Version
10) Multiple Computers - Pro Version
11) Added Custom Commands - Need to added to on the PC App
12) Wake on LAN
13) Change PC Volume
14) Take a screenshot of each monitor & send them via email to your desired email address (configured in the Windows App)
All information is encrypted (emails included if you use a ssl compatible smtp server)
You need to run an application on your Windows PC - It can be obtained here http://www.minooch.com/udpro/setup.exe
It has been tested on Windows 7 & Windows XP - You need to have at least .NET 3.5 (http://www.microsoft.com/net)
It will be minimised to the system tray when opened
By default the password on the Windows app is not set
Please make sure you open port 29000 (UDP) (The port can be changed) on your PC (if you're running a firewall). If your wanting to use it over the Internet, I suggest you obtain a static IP Address or signup with dyndns.org (obviously port forwarding would be required)
You may also need to open an additional port to be able to send emails (the port will vary depending on your smtp (email out server) server)
If you have any ideas please let me know
Works for 2.2+

Make the exact same thing except work over Bluetooth. I came from SE phones and symbian/Nokia so I miss salling clicker.
Add text message notifications, and if at all possible, respond to texts. Phone notifications of who's calling, of course both of these would be on the computer.
But yeah Bluetooth support would be sick!

FilePush lets you transfer files to your Android device with only two clicks. With the Windows Client you can create context menu entries that appear when you right-click a file inside Windows Explorer. With a click on the "Push file to device" entry the file will appear a few seconds later as a download on your device. It works much like Chrome2Phone just for files.
There is a paid version that costs $1.2 and a free trial that has all the features but lasts only for 14 days.
Paid $1.2
Free Trial
Windows Client (direct download)
Officially supported is Windows Vista, 7 and 8
WLAN transfer
It's faster but can obviously only be used if your PC is connected to the same Wireless Network as your Android device. A internet connection is still required on both the device and the PC as the transfer gets initiated by a Google Push message.
Google Drive Transfer
The file gets uploaded onto your Google Drive first and will then be downloaded onto the device. It's slower but should work anywhere with an internet connection.
Something that's probably a concern for a lot of people: Your Google password isn't stored anywhere, locally or on a server. It uses OAuth and you only have to login with your Google Account the first time you launch the Windows application.

There are a few differences. Once you have FilePush set up you don't have to do anything else than just click files and they are on your phone. It doesn't always have to run in the background because it uses push messages to initiate the file transfer. With Wifi Transfer Pro for example you have to launch the app on the phone, enable the small http server and type the IP (that could be different every time) inside the browser. This doesn't seem like a lot of work but if you just want to send one or two files at a random time of the day with FilePush you can just click it and don't have to worry about it anymore.

Well said I suppose you COULD configure wifi file transfer pro to use the same IP everytime if you know how to set it in the router but all other points are valid points. I might use this
very smart program and easy to use interface... much easier than the other competitors eg zumocast.
suggestions for improvement (which will motivate me to buy): allow transfer from phone to computer too; allow transfer of folders; allow it to work via 3g.

1. Phone to Computer is an often suggested feature but technically hard to accomplish to make it user friendly, but I'm working on it
2. Transfer of folders is also something that I want to do but has some downsides as I would have to zip all the files and unzip them on the phone again
3. It already works over 3G if you use Google Drive to transfer the files
Btw. tonight I released a update for both the Android app and the windows client:
Android version 1.1.3:
» Added option to redownload a file
» Added Jelly Bean Notifications with Buttons
» Migrated to the new Google Cloud Messaging (GCM) Service
Windows version 1.0.0.5:
» Changes for the new Google Cloud Messaging Service
» Fixed a crash that could occur when using Google Drive
Cool

First off, thanks for getting the full version!
Did you login with the same Google account on the windows client as you registered your device with?
Did you press "Refresh" inside the preference window of the windows client? You can bring that screen up by right clicking the FilePush Icon within the taskbar and then clicking "Preferences".
Thanks!

Hi. I would like to announce Wassapp, a non-official WhatsApp client for PC. This application basically allows any user to chat with his WhatsApp contacts from a computer (using a phone number that has been previously registered in WhatsApp, using a smartphone or any other method).
Start chatting is as easy as introducing your phone number, your password (depends on which device you registered your number in WhatsApp), and adding your contacts.
If the phone number was registered on an Android phone, the password is the phone's IMEI.
If the phone number was registered on an iPhone, the password if the WiFi MAC address.

Wassapp is already available for Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 8.
Linux and OS X versions will be available soon (a Mac Mini is needed for proper developing and testing, donations are welcome!).

I really would like to see this for mac. =)
Cool, really looking forward to the OS X app!
.....
I hope we can have a version for OSX soon. First we need to get some money, then find a cheap Mac Mini to buy it

Thx, just saying....
Sent from me using Forum Runner.
OSX version is on its way! Development goes slowly, as I don't have many chances to test it on a real Mac, but today I was able to run it and login with my number
totally doesn't work for me
W7, I chose North America, and entered my IMEI (as safeguard, I double checked and enter twice) as instructed. No contacts at all, tried Google import, no show, tried adding friend's phone number, don't show either.......

Don't try to use WhatsApp in your mobile phone while Wassapp is running (or close WhatsApp to use your mobile phone safely). WhatsApp server doesn't allow simultaneous connections so it drops the oldest connection. If you start using WhatsApp in your phone while being logged in Wassapp, WhatsApp will reconnect (as it will detect it was disconnected) and this reconnection will cause Wassapp to disconnect.

A new version of Wassapp has been released. It implements the new WhatsApp protocol so it's now fully working again!
Also it fixes a problem with contacts that were not added
Great stuff, dont now how long ive been looking for something like that!
And I have a wierd question: Are you the waninkoko from the wii modding scene or am I just confused?
Cheers,
Alex

Great app but doesn't import any contacts or groups from current whatsapp account.
Does the app support whatsapp groups?
I won't work on the Wii U, I left the scene forever.
WhatsApp doesn't store any contact list in their servers. They just take your contacts from your contact list and show you which ones use WhatsApp. You need to add contacts manually or import them from your Google account.
Hmm is group chat working?
This is great. It worked perfectly. But I whish there was a way to have two connections simulateously (PC and mobile). I had to put my mobile on "flight mode" to stop whatsapp from trying to reconnect.
By the way, are you the same Waninkoko as in the PS3 scene?
