Good news if I understood right :
Video driver for the Raspberry Pi are now open-source.
Does that mean we could soon have a working Android 4.0/4.1(or any other OS needing Video Acceleration) without hideous lag, for instance.

Yeah I don't think he read the blog post
I don't think createpassword knows what he's talking about This is good news as it has great potential for devs looking to port other operating systems. Now devs won't need to waste time reverse engineering this, they can get right to the good stuff!
As seen on Phoronix:
With the opened up user-space, the kernel driver also stands a chance of being accepted into the mainline Linux kernel tree... The only bit that's not opened up is the microcode/firmware, which still must be loaded at boot, but still that's nothing different than how the AMD Radeon driver functions along with some other GPUs

Thank you for the links. Ok it's not "fully" open source as advertised, but is it usable to build something functional ?
If I understand well, they gave a "how-to" of their black box, not the blue prints.

LMFAO!!!!!
And FYI: Larabel posted a retraction: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=MTIxNDk

Lol yeah I read his retraction and I was hoping to get back to this thread to retract my comment but you beat me to it... is it too late to blame Phoronix? So yeah, I was wrong about that one, big time. But seriously, what do you have against Michael Larabel? I always thought Phoronix to be fairly reliable (though how this played out is making me second guess that). Is there a better source for Linux hardware related news you can recommend? I'd be interested to check it out, you obviously have a better grasp on this than me

Adreno (which involves some RE, but is mostly from Radeon documentation since Adreno happens to actually BE a Radeon -- specifically, its a hybrid of R500 and R600).

I was wondering if anyone has tried to get this issue on TV? Something like CNN TECH, X-Play, or Attack of the Show. Maybe something a bit more national and mainstream would spark a bigger fire. I think all of the technology websites linking the story are a HUGE help, maybe its time to call in the larger media cannons.
Can we get more threads about this today?
I have five Browser Tabs open on this subject just so I can keep up....

This just in, HTC an electronic gadget creater has pissed off some 13000 nerds with overpriced phones. From our understanding the gadgeteers decided to neglect its customer base by omitting a video driver in it's software package. This missing video driver is responsible for poor renduring of the display and the nerds also accuse it of slowing down the phone and causing crappy camera quality.
Now back to your regurly scheduled program.

It's amazing how all these newcomers with only 1 post ask about the video issue. Makes me wonder if existing members register with a new username and post either to piss others off or ask questions without harming their reputation.

I will check this game out!
the game is already out.
Firing controls need improvement, many a times they don't fire at right moment or they just stop.
Been playing it since 2 days now.
Looks good. Gonna try it once I update to mango.
nice game...running smoothly on hd7 =)
thank you!
for control I simulate two analog stick and you are the first that have problem.
what model are you?
Well the game is good, but it needs some improvement..I was planning to provide a video review but it lacks a lot..It would have been great if the OP fixes it
BTW..Great job
Tried the game now that I updated to mango. Great game. Yes, the controls need to be polished. Sometimes they just don't respond/or respond with a delay. otherwise, a great game. Thanks.

"lacks a lot" ????
"OP" ???
I do not understand what you say
Pictures kinda remind me of Gauntlet. Looks cool. I'll have to check it out.
It was a typo...I mean to say 'lag' instead of lack..The game needs to be polished especially the controls...Sometimes it doesn't fire at all
OP=Original Poster
I guess this word is not often used over here.

Guys,
For some purposes here on XDA I always had a file repo on AjaXplorer.
Nowadays it's kinda laggy and buggy, so I need something else.
Do you have any ideas?
I just want a file repo which is directly public available. I've tried:
- Ajaxplorer
- OwnCloud
And this would be great:

But I want an opensource 'and' free one. Any ideas and suggestions?
Maybe one that already has some android source code available for making
an app too!
:good:
There's a bug running around on my screen!!!!!

This might be a dumb question on my part, so forgive me, but is there any reason you wouldn't just use something like Google Drive? I looked up AJAXplorer, so maybe it's just that you want to host it yourself? I didn't delve into it deeply, though, so I could missing the obvious.

Totally correct mate
I host it myself, I've got a huge repo with several own built ROMs, modems, drivers etc.
So it would be nice to have a nice interface. AjaXplorer is giving me headaches.
There it is again!

Need to find the latest news in software? Here's the place to look. Want to be the first to leak information about the new Android? Post it here. Everyone sees software news in their own device's forums but why not post it here for everyone to see?. What's the point of going all over the place to find the most recent software news when you can find it here?
Yes, the XDA portal is a great source for software news but all the information is dependent on what gets approved by XDA staff. Here, you have free reign to post the software related news that matters to you.
And before it's said...yes, there is already a forum for computer and laptop discussion, but it seems to be geared towards the hardware side. This thread is specifically for software news. And I've already checked with Archer so everything is copacetic (no need for ib4l ). Oh, and be sure to post links or it didn't happen.
So, without further ado...
Stop-gap' way to get Linux on Windows 8 machines to be issued
Penguins are playing ball with a Windows 8 Linux-blocking security mechanism to keep their favorite operating system on PCs…
The Foundation plans to obtain a Microsoft key to sign a pre-bootloader from core Linux kernel maintainer James Bottomley. Together, the key and pre-bootloader will allow users to start up and run Linux as an authorised piece of software on Windows 8 PCs –*it would otherwise have been barred by the machine as potential malware.

Flip this app: Secondary mobile app market quietly taking off
App creators without the time or inclination to service or monetize their apps can simply sell them off for a flat, up-front sum of money. Buyers can then either tweak them as they like or not, and either attempt to monetize them themselves or re-sell the apps to still another party.

Yes, I'm gonna port it soon™
Sure. I can port Windows for your phone, too.
But why would you buy an Android device and then try to castrate it by running iOS?

on, MI5/MIUI you can install a theme, from the theme store, that the interface is identical to Ios, but better, it's android! there are hundreds of themes emulating ios, don't complicate yourself!
Ask Apple if they're willing to do that. iOS is a fully closed source system, no one but Apple can port it. Not to mention its code must be tied to its own hardware, hence limiting the possibilites of porting. At most the portability layer won't be as comprehensive as Android which is made with platform agnostic mind.
