weirdest problem, and i have NO clue how to fix. please help. - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I decided to upgrade from CM9 to Lanlight V6.5DD:
I installed V6.5DD using the exact method that was written on the OP. I was coming from CM9, it booted up correctly and everything works great except three things:
1) i have no lock screen (lock screen is checked(slide))
2) I don't get any notifications, whatsoever(i can pull it down, but i hear an email or sms come in and nothing appears)
3) when i hold the home button, the recent apps don't show.
I formatted everything again and re flashed, same exact problem.
What should i do? everything worked well on cm9
I installed different JB roms and same problem.
I decided to go back to CM9, and guess what? the same problem stayed (i formatted everything, and clered nstool, inti.d, clean old kernel files, everything).
It looks i have to Odin back to stock. Can anyone please help me, so i don't have to Odin. OR at lease so i can try JB for once.
please help
sincerely,
Thatguy

Yeah try flashing a gb stock rom e.g. uckk4 from the master thread. Then flash the rom you want.

you should have made back up of your cm9 to Restore back to. I have a cm10, lanight, and slim bean 2.7 backups. that i can go back to.
I just Flashed Slim Bean 2.8 last night. Running Good :good:

Yea, i'm planning on going back to Odin and flashing to the latest official version (newer GB boot-loader would do the trick?I don't know anymore)
I had a nandroid backup and i restored yet the same problem is there.

[Q] How to make my note brand new?

First of all, sorry for the absurd title. Couldn't think of anything else.
Anyways, since the time I've got my GN, I've flashed CheckROM (GB), TeamRocket's ICS, Imilka's AOSP, Stunner and I don't remember the others. Now, as discovered, there have been tons of issues with all these repacks and what not. I am on stock GB for now, tried the official ICS, couldn't get root somehow. My question is if there is any way by which I can make my note "brand new". Like nothing ever has been done to it. I don't think just flashing the stock ROM with PC Odin does that, or does it!?
flashing a stock rom, providing its a wipe rom should set it back to factory settings

I flashed a stock GB ROM (wipe version) through PC Odin over the stock ICS. Rebooted like a 100 times and always getting FC messages. All my apps are crashing, gapps crashes all the time. Had to reflash the stock ROM like 5 times, working fine for now..
dr ketan has a nice how to... follow it and you should be fine...

CM10 Helly Bean V10 -- Bootloop!

Hey all,
I installed CM10 Helly Bean (DerTeufel) port for Captivate V10 with full wipe.
It seemed to be working fine... fooled around a bit, tried out Google Now, etc.
Was restoring apps (not data) w/ Titanium Backup.. forget if it had finished or not...
Didn't try to run any of these programs or anything, just tried to unlock and the touchscreen was not responsive... Tried wiping cache+dalvik + fixing permissions... tried reinstalling ROM and GAPPS...
All are in a non-responsive bootloop.
I'm starting over now with another factory wipe... as of now it is stuck on "Welcome" Screen and touchscreen is not responding... AND.. it just restarted
Any ideas as to the problem... Was it Titanium Backup related? Should I resist running that again (assuming this ever works)?
I would post this on Development thread but I still don't have my 10 posts, heh, mostly a long-time lurker...
Thanks!
Worse than I thought!
So It's worse than I thought... I gave up and re-flashed slim (ICS)... and the same problem still exists... boots up, looks normal, can't touch anything.... eventually it reboots....
Suggestions?
Would ODIN flash do anything different? I9000 bootloaders?

What I can suggest is, go back to GB. Download a one click Odin w/ bootloaders, you can search that in the dev forum. After that flash it with a corn kernel so you can have a working CWM. And then Go to recovery, have a full wipe (data, cache, dalvik) TWICE and flash this--
Slimmed Down V10 by cbalt
Wipe Data/Factory Reset/Wipe Dalvik
Flash http://www.mediafire.com/?9p212pempybwnj3
Then Flash http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?bdjabcmobz6aw6k
Then Fix Permissions
Then Reboot

I can recommend you that one because it's the one the I'm currently using right now and I can say that it's working like a charm.
The method above is the one I'm using everytime I flash a ROM. I always do a full wipe so I won't be encountering any issues or whatsoever.
About TiBu, I am not sure if that's where the issue coming from because I've been using TiBu for a long time and haven't encountered that. Just always remember, if you are using backup using TiBu, just backup the User Apps+Data, DO NOT INCLUDE THE SYSTEM APP. Goodluck!
So you think w/bootloaders will help?
I have flashed every odin w/o bootloaders that I have access too and all get me stuck at ATT bootscreen....
Little hesitant to reflash my bootloaders since I was/am already on GB bootloaders, but if it might help I may have to do it...
I actually was on that JB version (but with the normal gapps b/c I wanted google now...)... now I'm on no version of anything hahah

I met a problem. I do not know wether or not it is common. The phone will reboot by itself sometimes.
Do you have the same problem?
same here
seems as though many of the problems experienced by one are shared by the other
this is logical as they share many common points including the same partition and both jellybean derivations
I was having issues... accelerometer and audio issues.
All came out right as rain after flashing back to stock and reflashing

[Q] ROMs Boot loop every time I flash them.

I've been trying to Change the ROM in my phone all day and I've had no luck.
I first tried Slim Bean and that worked no problems BUT...
I had a blank IMEI which means I cannot make calls and I also learnt that you can't go from GB to JB, you need to go in steps of each ICS
I think If I go back to 2.3.3, copy or back up the /efs files or something then go back to Slim Bean then copy them that MIGHT work but I haven't tried it.
[Would be nice if SlimROMs just kept Play Store in the Rom, it would make things easier but they don't call it slim for no reason!]
So I went back to 2.3.3 using an Ezbase Recovery and I've been trying to Install ICS ROMs and they have ALL failed when installing causing a boot loop.
I've tried Cyanogen 9, 9.1.0, Slim ICS and a few other I cannot remember.
Is their something I am missing? a certain kernel? Need to upgrade to 2.3.6?
I really just want to get to Jelly Bean, I've tried it first hand Via SlimROM and it's like BUTTER but It's useless at the moment if I cannot get my IMEI or network provider showing up.
Thank you in advance.

ok, for upgrades from GB to ICS, you need a 2.3.6 bootloader, you can use Ezboot without changing ROM ( link in My Android collections) and a CWM by flashing a semaphore kernel. Here you backup your EFS.
In ICS ( follow guide by developer of your chosen ROM) , you may need to flash twice, as first flash may give you boot loops
Worked like a charm.
You've been so helpful since I joined XDA.
I wish I had money to spare for the help but I massive thanks is all I can give at the moment!

[Q] VERY worried about flashing miui rom and new bootloader.

I have just recently restarted using this phone due to my uscellular S4 getting turned off. I am now back on my LG-P990 currently rooted and running CM10.1. BUT most importantly to me is the fact that I have all my wonderful apps on my s4, I want to be able to use them by using the LG phone as a tether and calls not much else BUT CM10.1 tethering does not work, so i find myself flashing rom after rom, avatar rom, older CM mods, none would turn on tethering, so i flashed a modded version of MIUI for this phone and it worked except for ONE thing no signal, tethering turned on just fine so i decided to look around for other roms and found Slimrom TRYED to flash it didnt work, try to flash actual MIUI roms off there site, didnt work, met with an error in CWM Recovery after some searching I found its because Im running the OLD Bootloader -_- THIS is the issue im having IF MIUI does NOT work is it possible to downgrade the bootloader again so i can restore my CM10.1 backup? I have been working at this for a week, if there is something here about this can someone please just point me at it? I would appreciate any help.
On a side note i DID soft brick the phone the other day and found a program called nvflash witch flashed an install of CM mod. Dont know if that will help any.

I really do not understand how other ROMs deny Tethering. Did you flash the latest 2.x kernel by pengus77 after installing the rom? Did you make a clean install(wipe everything then install)? On the other hand, yes you can switch bootloaders as much as you like, just remember that changing the bootloader wipes everything on your internal memory, so do a backup. Did you try just plain old stock 4.0.4? Should work there. Ask anything you want, if you're still having questions.

As to the flashing to stock i lost the original rom backup i had made along time ago and cant find the original firmware anywhere online. When I flashed CM 10.1 I just ran with it, when i go to try tethering it says "Turning on portable wifi hotspot." and it stays on that no matter what untill i restart, left the phone running for 2 days once and that was still stuck on that before i restarted. As for flashing a 2.x kernel i had no idea about that. But yes when i did the installs i would do a clean wipe and install. Most of what i read online led me to believe that there was an error with CM 10.1 nightlys that was not being fixed for the tethering. So that is why i decided to go to another rom. Two questions one how do i go about finding the original firmware for this phone and two how would i go about updating or downgrading the bootloaders and could i be pointed to the files please?

Okay, This is SFSP by @sgspluss which is a pretty fast, stable and battery-friendly slimmed down version of stock ICS. It is available for both Old and NewBL, so you might want to try that first. This is AIO Toolkit. I know that you've used it and bricked your phone, but try again, and for the love of God install the nvflash drivers because most people skip that part. You have to do it manually and if you're running Windows 8 you need to disable Driver Signature Verification. But yeah, you switch bootloaders with this.

Need help Bad!! Weired problem

Hello guys, my problem is as follows. The other night I was about to try a different ROM than the one I was on. So like always I said let me back up my ROM. I was on a recent cyanogen nightly. Maybe about a week old. So I make a back up and hit reboot. But it won't reboot. I go in to recovery to use backup that I no just said completed successful but its not there. Actually nothing is there from old ROM. So I say OK. I will just try to restore an old stock type rom I had. Well it restored but the camera kept unfortunately stopping. So I said fine. I will wipe and use same ROM but start like new. When I did that the camera still crashed and I had no sound.. Crazy...tried latest nightly and it got to part saying starting apps but never booted... Any help would be great. Had to go back to one plus one for now..
