[Q] Help!!: How to bypass the launcher - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I installed an application, which did not install correctly and causes the launcher to enter an endless reboot loop. The OS and the phone seem to work.
In order to back uo my data, I would like to access the setting and allow the Kies to log in the phone and for that I need to run settings, or to install backup complete and then format the device and for that I need to run "Google Play".
Can anyone tel me how to launch applications w/o the launcher?
Thanks,
Avishai

i'm afraid you cannot use apps without a launcher
do you have root? if yes, download tw launcher from our wiki page (http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_Plus/GT-I9001)
use root explorer or something like that.
put your app to system/app
rebbot into CWM, wipe cache and dalvik
fix permissions.
should work, you have now tw launcher

No Launcher
Yes, but W/O a launcher, how do I do anything?
I can only launch the dialer, contacts and SMS before the launcher reboots. I cant access any application.
Is there a dialer shortcut or key cobination that bypasses the launcher and allows me to launch applications with the volume/power key or a similar debug trick?
Thanks

Boot to recovery
Mount internal memory
Put a zip with a launcher as suggested above
Flash it
Now you will have 2 launchers

If you flash a zip that has ONLY a launcher then you will not lose data. That means don't do a full wipe, just flash the zip and clean cache.
Are you rooted?

I purchased the phone with a haked flash, with some applications that seem to have rooted it. I am not sure on the status when I boot.
In recovery mode, I have clockworkmod version 2.5
As for the tw_launcher, its for I9001 not I9000. the zip file is only 1K size. Will it work?
Most launchers come as apk. How do I generate a ".zip"?

I will try it later, thanks.
I am not sure - I think it was 2.3
There are 3 versions, which will work for me?:
GB version
only deodexed for now
- tested on JVU, JW4 and JW5
TouchWiz4-v2-deodexed.zip
mirror
CM7 version
- tested on CM7.2 RC1
CM7TouchWiz4-v2.zip
mirror
ICS version
- tested on CM9 20120508-NIGHTLY-galaxysmtd
ICSTouchWiz4-v2.zip
mirror

Go to settings scroll down to the end and choose device information or something similar and check what android version you have.
Edit Ohhh sorry you can't boot. Silly me.
I suggest you look around at pictures of GB ICS or JB and try to find out which one you had.

I'm not sure if the launcher will install before the phone reboots but you can try. When it's installed, you will get an option which launcher to use when you press the home key.

[Q] can't mod P990

Hi,
I rooted my LG P990 and installed Rom Manager premium. Since I didn't find any released cyanogenmod in the download section of Rom Manager, I selected JMCyanbreadMod ROM's (1.9) and in later attempts the latest Nightly.
I only selected Wipe Dalvik cache.
The phone reboots and goes into the recovery screen. After only a few seconds a warning appears and the phone reboots, showing my old LG screen .
I don't know how to consult a log file regarding the install, so I can't tell you more.
Oh yea: both rom manager v4.3.2.3 and the flash clockworkmod recovery v3.0.2.8 are up to date.
Anybody got an idea how I can make the flash work?
Many thanks!
Cooled
Google is your friend. Go and download cyanogen on the web, put it on your sd-card and flash it from cwm. Have you flashed cwm? When you have done that, hold in volume down and press down powerbutton. Hold them in to cwm appears. Then choose the zip-file with cyanogen.

[Q] can't find a good enough guide - CM7

hello all,
relatively new to the forum.
last couple of days i've been looking for a guide to installing CM7 on my O2X.
I failed! I can't find even one guide with a-z instructions.
please, can anyone point me to a guide?
I did read quite a lot and got 2 conclusions:
1. It scares the **** out of me
2. It needs rooting which i've already done day-1 using SuperOneClick 1.8
plz help me,
Eitan
1. Download ROM manager from market
2. Open ROM manager, install ClockworkMod Recovery
3. In ROM manager, Download ROM -> CyanogenMod -> pick your ROM
4. When your download are finished, choose "Backup" and "Wipe Dalvik-cache", press install
5. Thats it

Be sure to be rooted first
Don't forget in this method
1. You will loose EVERYTHING on the phone including the internal partition where mediabis located...
2. You cannot download Tom using the above meantioned way unless you've have premium rom manager
If you don't have premium version just download the update.zip and do install from SD
Hope I helped I am also playing around with this latelly I got the phone 2 weeks ago

Also if i download and place on my sd can i use this method for the modaco vanilla rom?

Warranty question
I'm aware that rooting voids your warranty. However, does anyone know if unrooting will make your phone look normal, and thus, applicable for the warranty?
can always install original rom at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1035041 using smartflash.
Note: all data in internal SD will be erased. Hence unroot phone.

Backup and wipe in Rom manager after you picked your downloaded rom.
So open rom manager, select "install ROM from sd card", find your downloaded zip file (on external sd), select backup and wipe from the popup menu, install.
Your phone are going to reboot into recovery and install your zip automaticly. When its finished, it going to reboot again but this time you should see Cm7 bootscreen
DONE!

Can I ask two (potentially) stupid questions?
Say I want to use vorkkernel with the ext4 option:
1. Is ext4 considered stable enough for every day use?
2. How would I go about this? Format my internal storage to ext4, flash CM7 on, and then flash vorkkernel on with the appropriate flags?
Thanks.
Just flash the kernel, it will convert /system & /data to EXT4.
There is no going back to EXT3 afterwards though, you have to wipe everything to do that.
~HELP~ i followed the steps in beginning of post. CWM did its stuff ending with a CM7 installation. First boot of CM7 started and repeats endlessly.
How can I proceed?

[FIXED] ok, if this happens to any of you what I did to fix is:
1. shut the phone off by removing battery.
2. boot into recovery by pressing volume down and then while holding pressing power up.
3. in recovery: wipe dalvik cache, wipe cache & wipe data
4. in recovery: install from zip on sd card i chose the cm7 installation again.
(it can be found in clockworkrecovery foleder and inside in cyanogenmod folder
hope this helps.
Just one more thing... if, say, you install CM7 do I understand correctly that all apps bought before wiping everything will be lost and would have to buy tumor again??
Thanks for the help

Lol, when you wipe data it will take a bit more time to boot.

If you don't have Nova ROM and you can't boot directly into recovery and you're stuck in the boot whenever you power it on, then you'll have to flash a firmware.

If you haven't nova, you cannot directly boot to recovery. Two ways:
Remove the battery and try again. It will probably fix nothing and may be harmful.
Or go to the firmwares flashing tgread and use method 1 by modaco to reflash stock firmware and do from there.

Ups, I didn't know relax was using ext4 on /cache.
This will cause some problems since the recovery isn't ready for it.
I'll later upload a new version.
Thanks!!! Maybe you can find some time to fix the progress bar, too

If this is only partially functional too, whats the benefit of installing this?
Noejn it's impossible rewrite the bootloader for hardware combination key for enter to recovery for use with all rom?
It's very dangerous for bricking the phone?

Hey guy, there are different launchers to personalize your apps. I prefer the Apex launcher which offers a lots of customizations.
Themes and gadgets are available in the playstore just look for them some gadgets from cm9 running in cm10 as well.
But you have to try the different cm10 Roms by yourself, because every Rom have other nice features. I tried the most of them and Helly Bean from der Teufel should be the best Rom for customization in my opinion.
Task manager only available in a few beta Roms because touch wize from Samsung isn't fully ported (stable).
You need to install a search app like OI file (its free) which is similar to my files on old Roms.

Can you give me a tutorial for "THe best ROM" "Helly Bean from der Teufel" ,for my SGS?
Okay:
1) your phone should be rooted. If not, follow this step
Search for darky's Resurrection package and follow the instructions from there.
2) search and download the latest cm9 nightly (just use xda search) and put it on your internal sd card (via usb)
3) grab the latest release from Helly Bean Rom from the xda thread (development thread) and put it next to the cm9 nightly on your internal sd card.
4) reboot into recovery (voll up + main button + power button or choose recovery via in the powemenu if the phone is running)
BEFORE FOLLOW THE NEXT STEP BE SURE TO HAVE A NANDROID BACKUP OR TITANIUM APP BACKUP!
Do all wipes:
Factory reset
Wipe caxhe
Go advanced and wipe dalvik cache
flash the downloaded cm9 nightly
After install and reboot, go back to recovery and do all 3 wipes again. Now flash the latest Helly Bean Rom. Wait for reboot, maybe pull out the battery if the first flash let your phone go into a boot loop. Try to enter the recovery menu via 3 button combo and flash the Helly Bean Rom again. After reboot all should be working fine.
Hope you'll get all of the steps right in your mind. But be carefully. Flashing on your own risk and be sure to have backups of all your data and especially from the efs folder (without that folder your not able to get access in mobile networks anymore!)
Good luck and best regards

[Q] Mackay 4.4

Hey there, I registered because i recently bought a used galaxy i9000.
It came with the 2.3.6, so I wanted to upgraded it, so I had to use this custom rom's, which I've never heard about before.
After some research i decided to use the Mackay_ROM_4.1.7 to upgrade my phone, but after i did it, some problems appeared:
-The Play Store disapeared; (Meanwhile I was able to fix this error)
-It's always appearing this message on the screen "Unfortunately, the process android.process.media has stopped."
Is there a way to change to another ROM?
If yes, is there any way to fix these problems without need to change the ROM?
I would appreciate your help and opinion.
Thanks!
And sorry for my bad english and all my questions, I am kind of a noob in these things
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Meanwhile I was able to fix both errors.
1- I fixed the google play store problem by trying with another "gapps" file, the first one maybe was corrupt.
2- The other error I fixed it by doing a factory reset
Hey
If u are new to things then i would recommend using cyanogen mod..
get.cm
Download from that link and also install gapps from goo.im/gapps
Steps:
1. TAKE EFS FOLDER BACKUP
2. Boot recovery
3. Wipe data/factory reset
4. Wipe cache & dalvik cache (under advance)
5. Install zip from sdcard
6. Choose zip
7. Install gapps
8. Reboot, first boot will b about 5-10 mins..
Done..

Thank you for your answer!
I will do that when i get back home, but there isn't any problem to do that while I am using Mackay? Because now when i press the keys to the recovery menu, I don't go to the samsung recover, I go to the Mackay recovery...
And what link are you talking about?
Now I have a different problem, my back camera is all blurry, is there a way to fix it?
Try to clean data of camera app and reboot the phone....

Are pictures fine once you focus it?
Clear data of Camera and Gallery (they're seperate on Kitkat), or push another apk from another rom to see kf there is any difference. Also try apps from the market like Focal

I've already cleared the data, but continues the same.
What do you mean with "push another apk from another rom"? I am kind a noob in this questions, sorry.
Thanks for your help!

From another rom's zip file (CM, Omni etc), extract the Camera.apk and try install it.

Hi to all
I'm using this rom but unfortunatelly when i try to pair the phone in BT with the "car" (spleakers, rubrica...) i get an error, a force close (on the mobile) and often an "unable to update the data" ....
Someone can help me?
Thank you in advance
