I couldn't quite find the answer I'm looking for, but I plan on importing a device from Roger and unlocking it for use on At&t in the US.
My concern is that I won't have access to the US market or Google Maps Navigation without hacking. Does anyone know if this is the case or should I have no issues?
How does Google Market or Google Maps Navigation determine where you are?
If you look under settings>privacy, you can see that there is an option for "Use My Location", which is used for google search results and other google services.
I'm guessing the other google services include the market.
as for google maps, the phone will use its GPS to locate you in the map, so no worries on that one.

I know about that thanks. I would like to know from someone who actually knows though, no disrespect, rather than guessing.
it should work after you install the maps app from the android market since the phone is in the us and if it doesnt work you can used the modified one which doesnt need root

So I'm told the Market identifies your location by your SIM card and carrier IP address.
It's the location, stupid.
I was having some troubles with Evernote and Rainy Days FCing on start, couldn't figure out why. Turns out it's because they were expecting hardware to be there that isn't -- the GPS. Downloading an app called "My Fake Location" and running it completely fixed the issue!
Now I just wish I could get it to fake location based on Wi-Fi location data. Anyone know how to do that?
location services can't define my place by wifi even i check all squares in settings and same problem when using mobile data enabled
this issue for apps and google maps .............google maps can define my location by wifi when i open the GPS only -i can't lock any GPS sat cuz it's restricted here in Egypt-so it's the wifi location
plz help me to fix
Help me plz.........im sure that 1 of u has the answer
Recently I found the NLP wakelocks have used up much of the battery and can't a way to switch of Google location reporting. Any thoughts? I don't want to switch off all location services as I may need them for Maps or so...
I experienced exactly the same problems leading to a ton of wakeups from Google service. The only solution for me until now was to switch off all locations even though the weather and everything doesn't work properly anymore..
Stock Moto X 2014 Pure running Lollipop.
Google Maps finds my location perfectly. However, when I use any Mapping Fitness App, my location is consistently between 1-2,000 yards in error. I've tried Runkeeper, Runtastic, and Map My Walk. Is what's really frustrating is they all use Google Maps. I can switch back in forth in "real time", and Google Maps will have the correct location, but any of the three Fitness Apps will have me in the SAME incorrect location.
What could be causing this inconsistency between Google Maps and the Apps utilizing it?
