After rooting, go to System settings -> About phone -> Software update. This is 1.2 MB to download and it's XXLI1 baseband (newer).
You have to root it again.
Wait a few weeks/months for getting the GPU sources and building CyanogenMod, if we have it, you have it, and you can flash it (we can also flash it, whatever ).

Rooting a phone means that you now have access to the system files of the phone. You can delete unnecessary apps pre-installed with stock roms (e.g. Office viewer or native email app etc) to obtain extra internal space. Rooting a phone is NOT necessarily a prerequisite of installing a custom ROM. Most (if not all) custom roms are pre-rooted. However you do need to install a custom recovery to install Custom ROM/Kernel. You can find all the custom ROMS and respective details in the Development Section of s5830i as already suggested by farrukh. Every ROM will work on your s5830i, irrespective of which baseband/firmware you currently have (Unless instructed otherwise by the developer in the respective ROM thread).

[Q] rooting note for the first time.

Hey guys!!
I am thinking about rooting my note ....I am bit worried. I have LB2 right now and I am going to downgrade to KL3. Will it affect performance of my note in any way. I have heard that on previous versions of firmwares game performance was not so good. I have latest version so gaming is just amazing. Will it be affected after rooting to lower version? Please note that I am not going to use custom roms. I just need rooted phone. Furthermore, if OTA update is available can I update it over the air even if I am rooted?
Regards,
Abhi.

Yeah there will be some performance issue in the earlier versions hence the newer version of stock roms have been out by samsung. The best you can do is root and then use Mobile Odin Pro and flash the newer stock rom by selecting the option of ever root so that the newer stock rom you are flashing gets rooted in the process of flashing through mobile odin pro!
Cheers!
Hit thanks if it helped!
Thanks.
Got perfect answer. What about OTA udpates? Furthermore, will I face issues with Video camera and other functions on custom roms?

You might be able to get them. But the best bet will be to take the roms from here on xda as you will get to know whether the new one can be rooted or not. So you can then choose to update if you want root and the new rom cant be rootable so you can wait for the root to come and then flash it.
I am currently on custom rom rocket v 23 as seen in my signature. And i haven't faced any of such issues !
I will advise you to go custom as you get to have many options and features. Rest depends on you
Thx buddy. Will do rooting thingy tomorrow and let you know the results.

Hi,
I installed a custom kernel under the latest stock rom. Here is the guide:

this speedmod kernel looks promising. After installed the kernel you just have to install the super user from play store and titanium backup if you like..

I'm about to try chainfire's kernal and root my Note for the first time.
It seems pretty strait forward and looks like something that you might be interested in.

How root/new ROM

Hello,
I am a complete noob and need help figuring out how to do this, I have a kindle fire that i set up with the pure android 4.2 ROM, and was wondeing how i could do this with my captivate, and is there any way i can use this on AT&T without a data plan.
By the way the captivate is running the way it comes form at&t .
Click the link below and read (to get the idea), then read again (to understand what you are doing), then do exactly what it says (to get what you want). Start with CyanogenMod Stable 10.1.2, it's the most popular custom ROM (may change it later to whatever you want 4.2.2 based). Don't flash Android 4.3 beta ROMs as your first custom ROM. You need to download Google Apps too, version for 4.2.2 ROMs. Don't forget to backup your data before upgrading. Good luck!

Can you not install it from Google Play? If you can't, then it most probably will not work on your device.
Yes I cannot install it because the current version available in google store isn't supported by my phone, because of the rom I guess.so I was looking for an older version apk compatible with my current rom.

If you are interested in installing the latest version of Instagram, I suggest you upgrade to CM 9 or above. Are you using Ace S5830 or S5830i? Anyway I tried searching for Gingerbread compatible version and found this (haven't personally tried it),
Instagram 1.1.0 apk for Android
Do post the result. Hope I Helped
i tried it and as for other older versions i have tested,it gives me the following message
''error your version of instagram is out of date.please upgrade your app to log in to instagram''
So i guess i have to try a more recently released custom rom.
do you have any suggestions?i have tried a lot of them and the one i have now is the most reliable with no problems, that's why i keep searching for an instagram apk compatible.
My device is Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-S5830 or just Cooper
anyway,thanks.

CWM 5 is more than enough with CM 7, CM 9 and CM 10 roms. CWM 6 should only be used if you want to go for CM 11 (KitKat) roms. But even in CM 11 roms, there is one rom (KitKat for All) that works quite well with CWM 5. So you are good to go with the recovery you have know. Make sure to follow the installation instructions specified in the thread. Good Luck

You can use Greenify to hibernate other unnecessary apps that runs in the background. You can save some RAM that way.

[TouchWiz-I9190/5] scSTOCK

scSTOCK NK5/COC2 - I9195
4.4.2 KOT49H.I9195XXU NK5/COC2
scSTOCK COC1 - I9190
4.4.2 KOT49H.I9190XXUCOC1
Hello, I always wanted a stock ROM, because they are well tested and have no grammatical mistakes(Wich bugs me really bad in some Custom ones) So,
I took the NK5 version from this thread by ladislav.heller
COC1/2 Stock version from Samsung.
Download
I9195
NEW(COC2) - Yandex.Disk
COC2 MAIN Firmware(Wich also can be found on Yandex), download here
OLD(NK5) - Google Drive
I9190
COC1 - Yandex.Disk
COC1 MAIN Firmware(Wich also can be found on Yandex), download here
How to install:
Do a Nandroid backup, just to be sure.
INSTALL THE BASE from my Yandex, or the other sources I provided. NECESSARY! (Otherwise the debloated one, from "ROM" folder, won't boot, because you possibly have an older Bootloader)Check the "Phone bootloader Update" option from ODIN
Flash a custom recovery(If you haven't, I recommand ClockworkMod Recovery)
Disable signature check from your recovery
Install scSTOCK.zip from "ROM" folder
Reboot and Enjoy
Features:
It's the STOCK ROM, you don't have to worry about any bugs, typos, or anything.
It's debloated, so you have only a few basic apps (See SS's below), nothing deleted from "Settings/System/etc..", so you don't have to worry about any FC's while wondering around
It's KNOX free
It's SuperSU/BusyBox pre-installed
It's fast, long live battery \m/
FAQ
Q: What kernel it's pre-installed in this ROM?
A: COC1/2(For both versions,i9190/5) = Stock Samsung kernel / NK5(i9195) = SilviuMik's kernel
-
Q: I don't know my bootloader version, and the ROM doesn't work
A: Flash the "BASE" I provided above for you S4 mini specific version, then install the scSTOCK from "ROM" folder
-
Q: Wi-Fi doesn't turn on/doesn't work, and I flashed the BASE from Yandex
A: Modem actually needs 2,3 flashes to get going, get the COC1(For i9190)/COC2(For i9195) modem from this thread.
-
Q: What kernel should I use ?
A: I recommand SilviuMik's kernel from this thread.
For COC2 i9195 version, flash the " I9195-LTE-Custom-Kernel-Silviu-v3-CWM-NK5-KitKat" version.
-
Q: This version has/will have S5/6 ported apps ?
A: No, It's exactly stock, I think here are enough rom's with S5/6 portings, and much less s4 mini stock ones

Update:
-Replaced Google Keyboard,with stock Samsung.
-Included SilviuMik's kernel automatically in to the ROM
Update:
-The COC2 source was directly sammobile, I "compiled" it with ArchiKitchen
-Removed pre-installed SilviuMik's kernel (I heard the combination caused problems to some users)
-ZipAligned,compressed so it would't take so much space
Update:
-Added COC1 version for i9190
goooood, like xtrestolite on S5.. is that linked custom kernel already integrated in rom or should it be flashed thru recovery after rom is flashed?
hope you will update rom when new samsung firmware will be released (now is COC2)

No,it's not integrated in rom YET, I'll make a new release tonight/tommorow with kernel included
it is not what i meant.. i like stock kernel..
it is easy to flash any kernel thru recovery.. i suggest leave good rom in that stock form.
rom with stock kernel and flashable zip of modded kernel..

the next thing : you replace stocks apps with S5 or S6 ones ???? and themed "S6" ???
works very nice.. when my new extended battery comes from ebay i will test another kernel that supports 2850mAh battery.

Thank you ! ,I don't know yet, I mean..I really like the stock feeling, right now, I'm still learning and I'm not able to say what it will/or not be included in this rom
Stop this s5 or s6 **** ...just like now it is perfect. Best s4 Rom here.

i just answer to the OP what is his future own project ! by simple curiosity ! a dev OP do what he want to do.....
And for replace stocks apps with lasts samsungs ones ,it's not the problem at all !
if you have had bad experiences with "s5 lollipop project" or other ===> these devs have included too much changes with tweaks ,optimisations ...etc ... , the rom not clean ,not "pure", too much useless things ....don't work correctly ! it's not good ...
