[Q] changing from RocketRom ICS -> ParanoidAndroid CM10/AOSP - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all.
I'll make it concise. I'm not really sure about the way to change my custom rom from Rocket Rom (I'm currently at V12) to ParanoidAndroid - CM10/AOSP based (current latest version is 2.51, I believe). I've read through the instruction, but it really confuses me. Any advice/instruction will be highly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
P/s: my kernel is NoteCore_v14.1

You are on a safe kernel
So simply copy the rom into your sdcard and flash through cwm recovery

Hi,
To be able to flash paranoind and get as less bugs as possible , please do the following :
1. Make sure you are on a safe kernel ( if not download 1 and copy it on you phone )
2. add paranoind on your phone , start into recovery ( if your current kernel is not a safe, flash the one you have just downloaded) and do a full wipe ( data , partition , dalvik )
3. flash paranoid android
4. flash gapps from 11/10/2012
Don't flash any custom kernel over paranoind android , I think they must get updated to a new driver
Have fun

you might have used a wrong ROM for your device, can you try going to recovery menu>mounts and storage>format system

you can try to flash this rom with odin --> http://sourceforge.net/projects/ficeto.u/files/JVU/JVU-RE.zip/download
it's JVU RE GT-I9000 ( DarkysRom )
after you've flash this make a fully wipe.
Then go to recovery
Flash your Rom , after this
reboot ( do not make a full reboot ! , only recovery reboot ! )
When you're again in the recovery wipe data/factory reset & wipe cache
and flash your rom again

If you have this again , just use the small guide
try flashing semaphore 0.9.1 , i think pppl reported this issue with aokp build 27
Final words frm me
Finally i wana say, dnt try cm roms as those roms doesn't work always either cm7 or cm9. i personally on jvu rom which is latest samnsung rom and didnt tried cm, use any jvu rom from any dev like gamers rom, simplicity(best n full featured rom which i m using) all will work gud cz devs only modify ui and do some tweaks so there is less chance of bugs as compared to cm roms cz they modified core or rom

[Q] [ROM] ROCKET ROM - v2 - ICS - XXLPY [Update 23/05] -- Safe?

Hi guys,
i read a lot about the hard bricking stuff and the kernel questions. But one thing is still not clear to me. In the warning thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1633943) they say "XXLPY official ICS release for GT-N7000" is affected. The creator of the Rocket ROM wrote as a feature "CF-Root kernel XXLPF"
Now my question:
Does this mean that i can flash this rom without the fear of the hardbricking stuff? Or would you suggest NOT to flash a new rom until there is a new stock rom out and stay at GB 2.3.6?
Thx for your help!
Better to ask this in the RocketROM thread, the guys running it would have a better answer for you.
Personally I live in fear of the SuperBrick all the time, so I avoid all the ROMs based on the affected kernels.
Hello,
The Problem is that i cant post in their thread due to the "minimum of Ten posts" rule. So i was forced to ask my question here.
you can flash it if you like. just make sure you have the RIGHT kernel before you do a full wipe. i was on rr v1 i dled v2 but didnt flash it. installed kingdom rom instead

I followed the procedure suggested by this forum:
When on any rooted GB Rom:
1. download AbyssNote 4.2 kernel and place it on your internal/external SD Card
Also download the ICS Rom you want to install and put it on your SD card.
2. reboot to CWMR and do a backup of your current system
3. after your backup is done, stay in Recovery
4. go to install a zip from SD card --> select AbyssNote 4.2 zip and flash it
5. go back to CWMR's root menu --> advanced --> reboot recovery
6. you'll find yourself in AbyssNote's Touch Recovery
7. factory reset --> wipe cache --> wipe dalvik
9. flash the ICS Rom of your choice
10. reboot and let the Rom settle for a couple of minutes
I have flashed Criskelo V3 ICS rom, LiquidSmooth, Stunner, and CM9 using this procedure without problem so far.

Flasing JB from ICS

Hi,
im not pretty sure how to flash safely from my ICS to JB (CM10).
Im on RocketROM ICS XXLPY v3 with the Notecore Kernel.
In the developer threads there is mentioned that you have to upgrade from
CM9 or something like that.
I just want to get sure, before bricking my note .
Hope somebody can explain to me which methods are safe and which not.
Thanks !

Safe methods:
- Flashing from GB kernel ( for CM9 )
- Flashing from custom / non-stock ICS kernel that had the format command removed
- Flashing from CM9 / CM10 kernels
Brick methods:
- Flashing from anything ICS that came from Samsung
Simply follow the instructions in the thread and you'll be fine.
Check if Notecore kernel is "safe". If it is, you're ready to go. If it's not, you need to flash safe kernel first, and then go for CM10.
If you're afraid or anything, you can always go the long way: stock GB via PC Odin > root > CM9 > CM10, although we should really stop using this method now because devs put a lot of work so that we won't have to do it like that.
Okay.
My way, i would try it:
1. Flash AbyssKernel 4.2 over my ICS RocketROM ICS XXLPY v3.
2. Reboot the recovery
3. Flash CM9 and GApps
4. Factory Reset/Data Wipe
5. Reboot
6. Reboot in Recovery
7. Flash CM10 and GApps
8. Factory Reset/Data Wipe
9. Reboot
The only part, which makes me unsure is "Flashing from anything ICS that came from Samsung". You mean the kernel or could RocketROM brick my note cause its from a samsung firmware ? Even if i flash Abyss before ?
Sorry for asking again, but the Note is a expensive device and I dont want to go back to my Lumia 900
Thank you !
This is my metod. All working good on my N7000
My method:
-Flash CM9 kernel with PC Odin
-Boot into CWM and flash CM10+gapps
-wipe/factory reset and wipe dalvik
done

[Q] New Galaxy Note ! How should I start for Custom Rom?

Hi everyone, I'm not a new one here, before I had a lovely Motorola Defy with 4.0.4 CyanogenMod . ( Sorry for my bad English )
Now this change from Motorola to Samsung it's a little bit different .
I'm a little bit worried because before this Note, I had another one and I've hard-bricked it trying to flash RocketRom ( I've made a fullwipe, bad kernel and root with CWM .. Idiot, yes, I know :cyclops: ( stuck at factoryfs .. :cyclops: )
That's the reason why I started this topic because now I want to be sure about everything I do . I DON'T HAVE WARRANTY AND I CAN'T REPLACE IT AGAIN !
So .. what I want ?
1. Root
2. CWM STABLE / Adevanced recovery
3. Kernel Stable ( to be able to full data wipe, factory reset )
4. PARANDROID ROM or ROCKETROM ( Last versions )
5. Maybe a little overclock , maybe . I'm not sure now, deppends how fast will be my Note after another Rom .
Now I should tell you my Note info :
GT-N7000 ( United Kingdom, Carphone Warehouse )
Android Vers 4.0.4 STOCK NOROOT
Baseband Vers N7000XXLRK
Kernel Vers [email protected] #3 SMP PREEMPT Mon Jul 16 20:50:37 KST 2012
Build Number
IMM76D.XXLRK
Someone can explain we every step I need to do before .. I don't want to brick it again !
I've tried to find some info in Dev but too many info and I'm stuck, I really don't know exactly what should I do .
Please help me, thx a lot ! Andrew .

hi
sorry for what happend to your first Note ...
for a safe root/kernel/CWM ,I advise you this kernel
HYDRACORE:
- have the eMMC_erase-safe diseabled ,so it is safe to do wipes
- CWM 6.0.x safe
- root your note will be rooted when you flash this kernel
- work with all rom types (TWstock , AOSP ,AOKP ,CM) so rocketrom and paranoid works on this kernel
- have to versions one O.C at 1600Mhz and a STD version no O.C
- and more features I can't list it ...
you can see all this on the original thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1749863
thanx lord-ralf-adolf
Alright, thank you man , seems to be a good one, but I'm a little bit confused how to do it cuz' I'm coming from STOCK ICS 4.0.4 , no root, no mod, nothing .. I need someone to explain me here ( if someone want ) .. anyway, thank you.
I'm waiting also for another opinion .

To Root your phone just go here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360
after that flash Hydracore kernel from here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1749863
You will have CWM with safe kernel. Now you can do wipes as much as you want. Nothing to worry. After that flash any rom and start rocking your device.
Alright , thank you so much guys
One more question :
If I want to root , can I use this mod ?
1B.If you want just Root but not kernel, follow this
- Download Root_SuperSu 0.95
-Copy downloaded file to Ext SD card.
-Reboot into recovery (vol up+Home+power)
-Select install zip from ext SD card
-select 'root_SuperSU-*.zip' which you have copied to Ext card above
-Reboot device
-You can see superSU on appl drawer. open it and update.
-Now This will give you only SuperSU not busybox, though application which doesn't depends on system busybox will still works.e.g.Titanium Backup.
-To get full Root+busybox, Download Root_busybox *.zip
-Copy Root_busybox* only to Ext SD card
-Reboot into recovery, Select Install zip from Ext SD card. select Root_busybox* .zip and Flash.
-Done !
And then , flash hydracore , and after that parandroid ? Thx

Yes but when you are you rooted your device , you must install Mobile Odin and then Flash HydraCore kernel (to avoid yellow triangle), then you are safe.
My way is little diferent but also safe. If you want, you can folow this steps (no need to root).
You said that you are on xxlrk so i sugest this steps.
First download PhilZ kernel for xxlrk from here (choose right kernel for your xxlrk rom): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901191
Then download a HydraCore kernel from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1749863
And then download your favorite rom and put it all on your internal sd card.
1. Now go into stock recovery VolUp+home+power. Now you are in stock recovery - Never do wipes in that recovery!!!
2. Flash PhilZ kernel (because you can install this kernel from stock recovery) - select "apply update from external storage", choose PhilZ kernel and wait untill its done. Then reboot your device, wait until its booted up and go again into recovery volup+home+power.
3. Now if you see different recovery (not the black-blue one) you are good. This recovery has a grey background, and that is a CWM6 on a safe kernel. You are safe to do all the wipes but there is no need to do it now, yust folow next steps.
- Note: I sugested these first three steps because you dont need root and dont need use mobile odin or PC odin. Maybe it sounds complicated but it isnt.
4. Now when you are in recovery and seeing diferent new CWM6 from step 3. You can flash HydraCore kernel (install zip from sd card)... and wait for message installing hydracore kernel is complete.
5. Go in advance and reboot recovery. Now there is no difference in recovery but you are now on HydraCore kernel. From that point you are safe to do all wipes and flash any rom you want (PhilZ kernel is only for TW roms, also safe to do all wipes)
6. To be sure that you are on HydraCore kernel you can reboot your device and go into settings > about and check that you are on HydraCore.
7. Go into recovery again , do all three wipes(cache, data and dalvik cache) and you are ready to flash your new rom. Just to make sure, read installig instruction in OP of rom you want to flash!
From now on, when you want to flash a new rom, always check on which kernel you are. My advice is when you want to flash for example Paranoid from RocketRom yust make sure you are on HydraCore kernel (if you are not, first flash Hydracore) and then flash your new rom. HydraCore kernels made flashing easier because it is one kernel for all roms.
Dont forget hit thanks button to all devs that make your flashing experience easier
Hope that helps!
If you want, you can wait untill someone confirm that my steps is right. Or someone has better suggestion. Untill that, search forum, and read, there is a lot of similar question.
But dont worry, i flashed it that way, from stock TW 4.0.4. and never had a problem :good:
Thank you man, so much . I'm done . I've installed hydracore ( checked in about phone ) .
But now I want to ask something :
- For RocketRom v11 ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1654838 )
following this steps :
a) coming from a rooted GB-ROM:
- download Abyss Kernel 4.2 from here: http://www.mediafire.com/?c65mndvpk6ocbaa
- put zip-file on your USB-storage
- boot in Recovery
- Flash Abyss Kernel 4.2!!!
- boot back in recovery!!! (you find this option under 'advanced')
- FullWipe
- Flash ROM
- reboot system
- ...you are done
I really need to Flash Abyss Kernel 4.2 ? Because now I've Hydracore v5.4.
- For Parandroid , which one :
(1) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1797698
(2) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1654838
What means that cuz I don't understand very clear " Make sure to run CM9 or an AOSP-based ROM : FLASHING FROM STOCK ICS OR ROMS BASED ON STOCK ICS WILL RESULT IN A BRICK! " . I'm safe to continue with hydracore v5.4 ?
Thank you and sorry for stress with me

Flashing abyss on advise by rocketrom, is for u to be on safe kernel to do full wipe before flashing the Rom.Can
But.. U r on hydracore, mate.
No need to flash abyss alrd, hydra is safe to full wipe.
Sent from my GT-N7000 at the corner of this rounded earth.
Ok now you are on stock xxlrk with HydraCore.
From that point if you want try RocketRom:
1. Reboot recovery (VolUp+Home+Power)
2. You are now in new shiny CWM6 recovery (with grey background, if not, something is wrong dont do wipes, but i assume everything is ok, just a safety check)
3. Now you are safe to do all three wipes (wipe cache, data and dalvik cache)
4. "Install zip from SD card" choose rocket rom, select install
5. Sit back, relax and enjoy
Now you are on rocketrom. Rocketrom also came with hydracore kernel, so if you want try paranoid you are safe to flash. Just check in about phone, that you are on safe kernel (safety check).
Installing procedure is almost the same. I have never installed paranoid, but installed some others CM10 based roms,so i will just copy/paste installiing instructions from OP.
1. You are on hydracore? yes. Now reboot recovery.
2. Full wipe (cache, data, dalvik cache)
3. Install Rom
4. Install possible bug fixes (look out for "FIX" or "BUGFIX" prefixes and make sure the build number matches your rom)
5. Install GApps
6. Wipe cache / dalvik cache
7. Reboot
8. Enjoy
Thank you guys, almost done ! I'm so happy now !

I think it's OK but in the rom's thread, it's said :

You gave link of ClasssicRom V6, and it is based on latest indian DDLR9. (you are on xxlrt that is a germany latest version, a ddlr9 is indian latest version of ics 4.0.4)
ClassicRom v5 is based on XXLRQ.
If you want to flash a V6, it is ok, i think that is a very good rom.
Just make sure that you are on safe kernel before flashing, like hydracore. And reading installing instructions in OP.

This ROM is compatible with your device. You can flash it :good: (It is hard for me to explain why but it is all ok) They are all for international N7000, no need to worry
Yes you can follow sahilarora2003 post. Also you can follow my posts in this thread, you can flash hydracore kernel in few ways. choose the way you want.
If you want the other easiest way to flash ClassicV6 from stock XXLRT I recomend the following:
1. Download a PhilZ kernel for XXLRT (if you are on stock XXLRT) from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31914226#post31914226
Put it on your internal SD card
2. Now you can flash PhillZ kernel from stock recovery (never do wipe here in stock recovery!).
Going in stock recovery by pressing Volup+home+power, when you boot up in recovery choose "update from sd card", choose PhilZ kernel and install it
4. now choose "Reboot your device"
5. Now go again in recovery (volup+home+power). You will see a different new shiny CWM6 recovery, if you dont see it, something is wrong (dont do wipe)
If you see a new recovery you are safe to do three wipes(cache, data and dalvik cache)
6. Now "install from zip card" choose ClassicV6 , and thats it!
7. Enjoy
I recomend a PhilZ kernel because you dont need to root to flash it, and you can flash it from stock recovery and it is brickbug free
You can flash HydraCore after you flash ClassicRomV6 because this rom came with Speedmod kernel, which is also good and safe for wiping. Because if you flash it before, Classicrom will flash his kernel which is Speedmod k3-13 kernel. So you will be on Speedmod.
I hope that I did not confuse you more

NO!!
Just download all neccesary files to your device on internal SD card (kernel and rom). Thats the only reason why you would plug it to the PC. Then unplug it and follow the steps..
P.S. Just make sure that your battery is charged over 70% (in case that something goes wrong)
mhhh
i was about to DL the PhilZ kernel and i don't know which one i should use : lrt or lrk
i said that because when i go into menus, there are LRT and LRK and i don't want to make any mistake

Hi mate, in my case, I didn't type any code to find out info. I just go to settings > About Phone > Baseband Version ( In my case was N7000XXLRK UK ) . This is your sure baseband version .
Follow #6 , Flash PhilZ kernel from stock recovery It's easier than the ODIN PC way . Be sure if you flashed done ( " This recovery has a grey background, and that is a CWM6 on a safe kernel. " ) .. After that , flash Hydracore . ( To be sure if you flashed done, check again settings > About Phone > Kernel Version , and if you see hydracore there, You're fully safe now. Can do any wipe )
Just follow the steps from #6 and chose the right version of PhilZ kernel for your phone.
sorry, i was busy today...
I cant see atachments...
Ok, PDA is what you are looking for. You need a kernel for PDA ok?
Phone is modem (baseband version)
csc is country sales code
So i assume that you have (when you type *#1234#)
PDA N7000XXLRT
PHONE N7000XXLRK
CSC N7000XXLRT

The procedure is simple, once you understand what is needed for custom ROM's ( all ROM's above 2.3.6 are custom ROM's as it was not released by Samsung but customized by developers for i9000 )
1) your current ROM, is known as stock ROM that still has an upgrade ...latest is 2.3.6
2) to flash custom ROM's you need a CWM (clockWorkMod) recovery, which is best installed by flashing a kernel with CWM recovery on the i9000)
3) After Flashing the 2.36 ROM plus flashing the CWM recovery , its best to have a Backup ( that can be restored in the event of problems in the future ) as well an efs backup ( this backs up your IMEI ( phone Identity) that can get lost/corrupted when flashing cutom ROM's
4) Once you have the above, its best to do a progressive upgrade , so its best to flash the ICS version than the Jelly Bean version ( which is what you like) before the Kit Kat version ( coming soon)
Note:- you can jump from Gingerbread to Jelly Bean as many have done, and had experienced IMEI problems and look for solutions to resolve or just flash the ICS first to avoid it.
5) once you understand this go here> upgrading to gingerbread 2.3.6, than to ICS and finally to the ROM you like, which clearly tells you
First time installing to your Galaxy , or coming from another ROM:
- Make sure you're running a proper working ClockworkMod-Recovery
- Boot into Recovery
- DO A DATA WIPE / FACTORY RESET (otherwise your device will be stuck at boot)
- Wipe cache and dalvik cache
- Flash crDroid zip from internal SDCard
- Flash GApps zip from internal SDCard
- Reboot
- Don't restore system data using Titanium Backup!
- Restoring Apps + Data might cause problems and is not recommended, avoid it if possible!

that's it you are done
Check this out! You , YES! you are an " Android ". Not your phone but U.
