Anyone gotten the new ROM yet? I followed the instructions over at the this thread and it doesn't look like it worked.
The instruction that states "Once you are back up, you can use the browser to download and run .APK files from anywhere."..
When I go to the browser and try to select "Zeam-2.9.2.apk" or "Superuser.apk" which are mentioned in the post, I get an 'Unsupported file format'.
Sounds like something didn't work right, but I'm not sure what that is.. anyone here seen that problem?
I tried to post this in that thread, but didn't have access to it....
You can install without unrooting on 1.1 version only. 1.0 and 1.01 need to be unrooted. Once the update is installed, you can use this hack (hamncheese's) to kinda root the new stock froyo version, but it is not a real rooting. As of 4:45pm pst no one has gotten a working root for the new 1.2 version. Give it a couple of days and they will have a method to totally root the nook on the new version. Or, you can run dual boot and be happy for the time being until they get the new root patch.
......
I probably should have been clearer.. my bad.. I did try hamncheese's kinda root, but it didn't look like it worked.

You and me both.......... LOL I d give it a couple of days maybe tomorrow they will have the root patch figured out... Tell you wife it has been only 24 hours......... XDA Devs are fast but sheesh....... they need a little time......
I was unable to do this. It attempted to install, then rebooted, then attempted installation, then rebooted... I unrooted, did a full restore and allowed the update. Not so impressed to be honest with the stock Froyo. Seriously considering going back to rooted 1.1.
Read the thread, it sure does not work hope someone comes up with an answer. Thanks
Just got my Nook and had it updated in the store. The guy says, "it should have lots of other apps plus Angry Birds".
Well, it is 1.2, but no apps and no Angry Birds... Figures.
I too hope someone gets 1.2 Root-able soon.
I sideloaded 1.2 and in the "shop" section, you can "buy" Angry Birds. It's $2.99. Its not RIO or Seasons but it is Angry Birds so maybe you can appease the wife until a root is released. I downloaded it (bought it) and it works great! Ken

I know some say the market works but I am still having trouble with it. I cannot seem to install anything. I click the app to download and install, it "starts" the download but the progress bar doesnt fill. Then it suddenly fills, says installing, then dumps me back to the app's description page, with nothing installed. It reports that the "download unsuccessful" so I repeat the install again...no change
I am tempted to go back to 1.1 since 1.2 doesnt offer me anything new unless rooted....

Forget about running netflix unless you are willing to flash the cyanogen rom. There are settings that you simply cannot change (at this time) without switching to a different rom. I dont know what to tell you other than to follow the directions others have already posted. The problem with the cyanogen rom is that it does not put the nook to sleep properly when the screen is turned off, so the battery life drains like a leaky faucet. But, I think they have finally started to figure that out so I think that it should be added to one of the next iterations. Once it does, I will happily switch over to using that rom, especially now that the nook app allows magazines etc.
UPDATE ON FAILED INSTALLS: Turns out that only SOME applications do not install correctly, I have been able to install others from the android market place and amazon market place. Angry birds (any version) is one that will NOT install. Any tips? I have definitely used an sd card properly with no change.

That is not correct; with rooted stock 1.2 it is quite simple (especially with Root Explorer).
As for installing Angry Birds, if you are on rooted stock 1.2, try downloading it WITHOUT the SD card mounted.
interesting
Interesting, I will try to enable netflix by changing the file using this method:
http://reviewhorizon.com/2011/05/how-to-watch-netflix-on-nook-color/
I had read a post that mentioned I needed to use ES File explorer to access the file. ES File explorer didnt want to cooperate and complained about my rom, and i figured I need to be running a different rom.
As for the angry birds, I have tried installing with and without the sd card and not had any luck.

when you first install an app, it should ask you what you want to install it with. One option is "Android Package Installer" and that's the one you want. I chose the other one the first time around and ended up restoring and rechoosing. The other package installer (i think it's called nook something or other) does not allow you to select the permissions for the program, and thus, will not install the applications properly.
To test and see if that is the issue, try to install an app... if it comes up with the permissions for the app upon install, then that is probably not the issue. On the other hand, if it immediately just says failed, then you may have chosen the wrong package installer.
also,
For problems with large file install errors, such as angry birds, try installing the kernel in the this thread... that's what worked for me. Alternatively, if you want to install angry birds, etc, then you can copy the apk over to internal memory, take the sd card out, and then install it. (this kernel makes that unnecessary though)
Rooting nook is easy when using the CM7 Mod. You can get the market working with out problem and would be able to run most application and games. I had raging thunder 2 running with out problem.
The thing that I don't like on it is that, CM7's replacement of the stock softkeys (navigation buttons on the buttom) seems to be designed for mobile phones as they are small buttons.
So i unrooted my nook but would be trying this link and see what i can get:

Alright so out of nowhere today my Kindle fire 7 10.4.6 started displaying lock screen ads again. It's rooted and I've renamed the dtcp_apk.apk to dtcp_apk.bat. And it hasn't been showing ads since I rooted. But today it started again out of no where. Here's the complete background and what I've already tried.
Kindle has remained charged the entire day and has not died since purchase, I've confirmed I still have root access through Root Checker, I've renamed the dtcp file back to it's original .apk and restarted and then changed back to .bat and still ads show up. Confirmed that OTA updates are disabled, I'm at a loss here, anybody else having this problem or found a way of fixing it? Short of wiping the root and starting over from scratch.
And thank you in advance for any help or feedback!

Just received a KF2 (10.4.6) this week as a gift. Spent several days trying to remove the lock screen ads. Finally got it working. Hopefully this is not a repost - could not find it in the search.
Need to root device first. In addition to renaming the /system/app/dtcp_apk.apk file as referenced elsewhere on this forum, it looks like Amazon has put the same app in a different location. I also renamed /data/app/com.amazon.kindle.kso-1.apk, rebooted the device, and now no more lock screen ads.
I'm on M3 rooted with Despair kernel.
Got Android pay update and tried to activate it by adding a credit card information. It bailed out saying that my phone can't be trusted, I figured out that's because of root.
I tried to unroot in SuperSu. First by disabling Enable Superuser root button, second by Full unroot. Both methods didn't work, Android pay still couldn't be activated.
I then tried to format and flash boot, system, recovery MPA44I images. I started to get a RED message your phone can't be trusted on boot. Android pay still couldn't be activated. NOTE: I didn't erase data partition.
I don't want to do a full factory reset.
What are my options now ?

Go to the Android Pay app info, and uninstall updates. This will roll it back into Google Wallet. You should also go and uninstall the new wallet app if you have it so as to avoid confusion.
After that, I had to find an APK site that could update my wallet app back up to Version 9.0. I've since disabled auto-updates to the Google Wallet app until I see some signs of support for root.

Hello All,
So, I have been away from Android for a bit (not my choice ), and it seems that I am unable to play movies and tv show from Google Play if I am rooted, or even using a permissive kernel. I just get the try again later, restart, blah blah error. Is this the norm nowadays? I googled/searched XDA and only found a thread about the HTC M8 where this was discussed (with no solution other than rootcloaker). I thought Google had had stopped that a while back?
Any informed input appreciated, as I like to use my own ROMs/kernels. I will logcat/dive deeper if no-one knows, and see how far that gets me...
Thanks!
Steve
I have never used Google Play for music or movies but I was wondering if you could still install apps or use gmail. Curious if its related to account. I'm sure it would be mentioned more often if it was a common problem , so very possible a setup issue!?

Sure. You could always try a kernel or rom from the development section as a test and narrow it down. Wish I knew more of the inner workings, but still learning. hope you get it back on track. Its a very nice device.

Okay. Just restored this tab to stock. Google play movies worked fine. Then redid the root process and Google play movies don't work. Did some searching and apparently root breaks google play movies. Anyone?
I'm having the same issue... also couldn't get hulu to play anything. Twitch and Netflix work fine.. google play and hulu, no bueno. My Nexus 6p is rooted though and it plays hulu and google play movies just fine... so it's not necessarily root.. it's something with this tablet and root.
Suggested in the T917T Root thread: if you're running Xposed, give root cloaking a shot.

It should work on 5.1.1. Are you sure you didn't have root before? The system needs to be clean. When supersu installed did it say systemless root?
If everything was as it should be then you need to make a bug report in the supersu thread to Chainfire.
I thought i blocked it when I used the tool to unlock the google playstore and everything, obviously i was wrong.
Is there anyway to set it back to 5.0.1 or even 5.0.0, also is there any way to do that without losing all of my apps/information.
Or can i simple run that google playstore tool again. Thats all i really want on my tablet right now, dont reallly want to root kit it at the moment, and i dont wanna brick it, messing around myself. So if there is anyway to get the play store working on 5.1.2 again or resetting it to 5.0.1 or 5.0.0 with or without losing my data can anyone please let me know and help me out if possible. Thanks guys
Edit: Ok the original install google play tool still works with 5.1.2 without any problems and it still lets you reblock updates (as far as i know, it said it worked) and now my playstore works again.
What exactly did you do? Uninstall all the google framework etc? Just reflash the bat script?

Yeah i uninstalled all the google framework, the playstore any google related stuff. Re ran the the update blocking and re-ran the playstore install from the batch file

I have 2 tablets, and both were patched with Glytchy's script. One of the tablet never updated to 5.1.2 from 5.1.1, but the other tablet did, and it removed root.
I try running the script again on the 5.1.2 tablet, but it doesn't work (see picture).
How did you get it to work? Maybe your never really installed 5.1.2, and only downloaded it?
This doesn't work for me anymore. My fire updated and wouldn't sign in after that. I uninstalled all the google stuff. Reflashed the bat file posted by shadow. Now when I try to add my google account it says can't establish connection with the server.

Not sure which method you used as the linked post contains references to many other articles. If you used 'adb shell pm hide' then I'm not surprised it didn't work. Preferred method is to rename components responsible for providing OTA functionality.

Right - guessing it didn't work. Hidden components are easily exposed.

Damn I've restored it too, still no dice. My other 2 kindle fires are ok so far on 5.1.2
I bought them all at the same time.
I messed up and had my kindle automatically updated to 5.1.2
Same here, update to 5.1.2 and now rooting not possible. Therefore no FlashFire, therefore no custom rom, therefore lots of time wasted...
It is new guys, give it some time... I am sure people are working on it... Just keep an eye for it...

Google play installed successfully. Root failed because 5.1.2 was yet another d*ck move by Amazon to patch root.
