It was an old wreck running window 3.1 with 12 or sth MBytes of ram and a hard disk of ~250 Mbytes. Black and white monitor, and a brand new 3,5 floppy (not like the old 5 inch ones). I used to play Prehistoric Man on this and Lemmings.

I know, I'm a kid !
First real computer was a BBC B (with a sideways ROM/RAM board giving me an extra 16KB of RAM with the flip of a switch - total 48KB) and was far superior to the C64
We had it with a RGB Cub monitor and a double floppy drive monitor stand. I remember one of dad's friends saying "Why do you want to waste money on floppy drives? Tapes will be around for years!"
We had it out in Saudi Arabia, but back in the UK as part of the BBC Education project which had spawned Acorn's creations they would broadcast programs over the radio for home users to record to tape and then load.
Without the success of Acorn's computers, ARM wouldn't have been created and we wouldn't have the smartphones of today.
A year or so later we got our first PC, and IBM XT clone, costing $6000 with a 10MB hard drive and a 8088 CPU running at 4.77MHz
Mine was an old jalopy from CompUSA. I had to sign up for a year of Prodigy Internet (remember those guys, lol) to subsidize the price. It had a 10GB HDD, and like 128MB of RAM. It was slllllow. It had 56k.
Mine was a custom built AMD running at 40 mhz. Had a 40 meg hdd, dual 3.5 and 5.25 floppy drives, 256k ram circa 1990. It was screaming fast compared to similar Intel's of the time.

Hi Everyone,
Ive been follwoing the development on the HD2 you guys are producing some good stuff.
I have been looking for a laptop now for some time which I could use for gaming, but my budget is 500quid
this has really taken my fancy;
Toshiba Satellite Pro L670-14L
Intel® Core™ i3-330M Dual Core Processor,
17.3" HD+ Screen,
Windows 7 Home Premium Edition 64-bit,
4GB DDR3 RAM,
320GB HDD,
DVD Rewriter,
Dedicated ATI 5650 Graphics,

for £500
What do you think?
Sounds great for the money
Otherwise maybe look at this Samsung, Which I personally will probably buy when I get the cash
Samsung R580 and the Amazon page.
although it is a smidge over £500
Specs;
15.4" LED HD screen (1366 x 768)
Intel i3 330m (2.13Ghz)
nVIDIA GeForce 310M (With 512MB dedicated memory)
It's red
HD Audio
Webcam
Bluetooth

macbook was my first and only lappy
HP Dv8350us.. until the hard drive died and I didn't bother to order another one because it used IDE connectors.. Too ancient.
I don't recall the model #, but it was a Dell with a 15" screen and only a 40GB HD. Every Dell that I've ever had, came with defective/finicky DVD drives. HP, Lenovo, and Toshiba didn't have this problem (at least as has been my own personal experience).
Siemens-Nixdorf (something) 485sx 33MHz, 120MB HDD, no sound card
Got it as my first PC for studies in 1994, It was on sale, as newer and better laptops was...
The Nix-sie replaced my beloved Amiga 500, (Yes I kept using a comp that had been presented ten years earlier).
Back to the Nix-sie. It had a Dual-scan 11.6 screen and after a few year the line was clearly visible+several dead pixels. The 120MB HDD seemed like something that a normal user never could fill up.
Got myself CD-ROM connected to the printerport?. Upgraded the RAM from 4MB to enormous 12MB. Had a 9-pin printer with it. running the DOS6.22 and Win3.11(for workgroups?)
In 1999 the Nix-sie died, the screen was a joke and the Ni-Cad battery dead since years back.
Replaced Nix-sie with a Cyrix Desktop, win95 with a soundcard and obsolete...

My first is the one I'm one a Compaq (CQ50).
I dont remember the model number but it was some cheap Toshiba from walmart. Since then it has been a compaq,hp (crashed in less than 6 hours after it ran windows update), dell inspiron 15r(hard drive crashed after 4 months), now Im back to a toashiba satellite.
It was Acer Aspire 3985 with 30GB HDD, 512MB RAM and 1.6GHz processor. It was built-in with 14.1" screen. Now I have higher clocks on my phone..

I heard that for durability macbooks are the way to go and for max performance (what I need) PC's are better. Im also a big DIY person so I need a laptop that when the warranty ends, I can take it apart without much hassle. At one time i wanted a macbook but I just dont feel like its for me.
Samsung nowadays has cheap/budget laptops with great specs. But sad that when it comes to laptops, everyone only thinks about Dell, Sony Vaio, HP, etc..

I found 2 laptops that im interested in: Samsung series 7 chronos and ASUS N55SF I liked the Samsung cause it was portable and powerful and same for the ASUS.
I don't see whats wrong with dell, Im using a dell that I've had for almost 4 years even though at one point it broke but it wasn't my fault. Dells in my opinion seem like they can take a beating and keep on running my processor gets average ratings in the windows score index and overall there weren't any major problems that I've had with Dell
Any Samgsung series 7 or 9 are REALLY nice. i'd definietly recommend em.
Without any doubt Dells are good. But due to their Brand name, the offer price is high and when compared to Samsung, not only the price is less, but also you'll get major increment in the hardware specs.
An example should be a Dell Inspiron comes with :-
Intel core i3 2nd gen/3GB RAM/320GB HDD/14" screen/1.3MP cam/No OS/Glossy screen
whereas a Samsung (no idea about model) comes with :-
Intel core i3 2nd gen/4GB RAM/750GB HDD/15" screen(with numpad keys)/1.3MP cam/No OS/Matt-finish non reflective screen
And the price is, Samsung still is under for some penny's than Dell Inspiron.
Not sure whether its true, but heard Samsung provides "their own" produced hardwares to their Laptops except processor. But in case of Dell/HP/Vaio the HDD should be Seagate/Samsung or RAM should be of Transcend's.
Just don't buy any Toshiba...

Personally I use:

MW3 only on low settings if. I got a Intel HD 3000 and a nvidia gt540m.
But if I was you I would look for something better if you plan play some games. I think nvidia gt540m works good with MW3 because I play it on my notebook and the graphics look good.
When i played MW3 on the Intel HD 3000 I had idea it was not running so smooth.
But Intel HD 3000 can handle 1080p just fine and you can also play some games but I think games like bf3 will not run good on this notebook.
I myself got an Asus K53SV-SX838V and it has Nvdia optimus.

The 3D performance of the HD 6320 should be only minimally faster than a 6310 and therefore only low demanding or older games should run fluently (e.g. Call of Duty 4, Sims 3, Left 4 Dead 2, Fifa 11).
Based on the chip in the link bellow it's only a few Mhz faster.
http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-ATI-Mobility-Radeon-HD-4330.13973.0.html
Unfortunately gaming laptops are bank breakers. "cost very much for very little."
