[Q] Can't update to JB through Cheesecake - Motorola Atrix HD

Hi guys. I did something a little dumb. I was on a marching band trip, and on the bus ride, I thought, "Oh, while I'm in the middle of no where, why don't I OTA to Jelly Bean? That'll give me something to do." So I figure out PCA and get it all set up, and when I reboot and check for updates it says Heck yeah theres an update. So I select to do it over 4G, thinking sweet, I don't even need wifi.
Well, it doesn't ever download, because it wants to wait for non peak hours. Sure, thats fine, I can wait till I get home I guess.
When I get home, it connects to wifi and sits there. It doesn't do anything. Its not even peak hours, might I add, its like, 2 in the morning. Me being a very impatient person, I think "Im sure rebooting will fix this" (because you know, when your semi legit phone hacks dont work its a great idea to kill power). When I turn it back on the notification is gone. I go back to Check for Updates and it tells me Currently downloading update.
Well, I go to bed, it sits on the plug all night supposedly downloading this update, but when I wake up, nothings happened, and it still says Downloading update. Keep reading, it gets worse.
I think to myself, Oh snap, I messed it up by rebooting. Whatever, I'll just run PCA again, factory reset, and check again. So I do that, and when it finally settles down I check for updates and it straight up says "Check for update is not available at this time. Try again later."
And that's it. No matter what I do, I can't get off this message. Does anyone have any idea what I can do?
Thanks,
Peter.

The update was taken down after just a couple of hours. A link to it is in the cheesecake thread.

It could have been deleted from the server while you were reaching home. You can go to general section and there's a thread title "cheesecake". Someone has shared the zip which you can easily apply it via stock recovery.

Aw dude bummer! But thanks for the reply. Any idea why it would say there was an update?

That I do not know. But no bummer just download the zip from cheesecake.

Because there was one. It was taken off of the server, though. You can find it in the Cheesecake thread in general but it's not completely finished. There are some small bugs and other missing things but it's nice to have if you know how to do it.

[REQ] Get root on atrix update 4.1.57

So we have confirmation that superoneclick and aroot doesn't work on the new atrix update. If any dev will work on this please use this thread.
EDIT: Please don't comment on this thread anymore. Go to Ririal's v2 root method
I just updated and it does seem smoother to me. Might just stick with it.
please everyone, this thread is for getting root on the update. if you want to comment on the update itself, use my thread on the general forum

Maybe this is your first piece of electronics, but it's completely expected that everytime a software update for a piece of hardware is released, exploits are closed. Apple does it, Sony does it, Microsoft does, HTC does it, Motorola does it, Nokia does it...The list goes on.
This WAS EXPECTED. I always found it entertaining how whenever an update was released for my EVO the forum here on XDA would get absolutely flooded with people saying how they lost root NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES THEY WERE WARNED! It could take 5 minutes, 5 hours, 5 days, 5 weeks, 5 years, or eternity for root to be regained after an update. There's no way to know.
any way of installing 3rd party non-market apps, like amazon appstore?

Pretty sure that's why he made the thread - we're being patient, just looking for someone to work on this fix. I'm ashamed I even posted on this comment, but if you're not going going to help fix it, you shouldn't be either....
Hey everyone, if you want to sideload apps just use the ADB INSTALL method it works for me.
I still have my root after update
Hello,
I just ran the update, it shows in the system version as 4.1.57 yet I still have my superuser permissions and can tether without adding to my plan. Not sure how or why, but it happened.

I would be helping fix it if I had the update. I'm still waiting for the notification, but thanks The OP is just forum clutter, and it's pretty rude to be making these requests minutes after the update is even pushed, and a BETA update, at that. That was my point.
Where are you guys located, getting the update already. I just checked and it said mine is up to date and I still have 4.1.26. Wierd!

Did you flash back to stock before the update or did you do the update on a rooted/gingerblured phone? Do you know if you were using 1.2.6 or 1.5.2? Have you tried running su in a terminal to make sure root actually works?
Was worried bout flashing without stock software already installed think ill go back to stock anyway to try it the official way first.. Can always go back and upgrade after rooted though if this works consistently.
The security hole that allowed for root on the phone is CLOSED in this update. There is no way of rooting your phone after this, save going back to one of the available SBFs. Confirmed by designgears as well.
As someone said earlier, "for now" the root method is disabled, and there is no way of rooting your phone after the update "at this moment".
I have confidence everything will be OK.
Boy am I glad I decided to stay away from this "update." I got accepted but when I go to check for updates it says I need a social networking account setup. When I then hit setup nothing happens so I said forget it lol.

Update available tomorrow afternoon??

So...I know I shouldn't believe Verizon reps when it comes down to this ...but I just got off the phone with tech support manager from Verizon trying to get a different phone for my bionic due to data issues. She told if I can hang in there for a day bc new update coming out tomorrow afternoon . I asked her I then can get into a different if it isn't and she me options of any lte device out there or 3g except phone. She told I could then switch to one if update doesn't drop.
I know our community has been given a run around when it comes to updates. Just a fyi that is all.

Does anyone know whether or not forever root will still be valid for this OTA (5.5.893)? I remember p3droid saying do not take any further moto updates as the exploits have been patched...but...
I had data drops 27 times today. I counted and kept track.

I'm with you on that, I go most of the day without data. I have to wait till I get home to use wifi, in lucky if my feeds update. hopefully this will correct the reboots as well.
I have been on 5.6 then 5.7.893, never did the first 5.5.893 but my data drop is definitely alot less often. Maybe only 1x or 2x a week. Its been solid for the last week. Usually when the drop occurs and needs a reboot or airplane mode cycle is when it wakes from sleep.

According to Verizon's lastest list of fixes for the new OTA, is suppose to fix the dreaded BSOD.

[Q] Bricked my phone. Help please

Downloaded decrappified 1.1. Computer has a bad usb port and i think it disconnected before it was finished downloading. At this point the phone became stuck in cwm, so I erased user data and reset settings. The phone then said i had a bad sim card, but two replacements didnt fix it. I bypassed the sim card with up, down, search, home and the decrappified seemed to have flashed, but the phone now resets itself every 30 seconds or so.
I'd like to at least get this phone back to stock so i can take it in. been using my wifes old purple curve for the last 2 months. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

My wife told me if I bricked my phone, I would have to go back to using the Cricket Wireless phone we had. YUCK. "Again" she says as she is reading over my shoulder. Anyhow.... stay calm, all is fine. In the forums there is a way to fix it. The phone is unbrickable. LG thought of everything. So diagnose the issue, and look in the forums. You will probably need ADB and stock programming, you can search our forums for ADB and you should track it all down. If you run into issues you can go to IRC the channel we have there is #lgrevolution and someone might be there to help you. It took Cubed 5 minutes to fix my phone, but it took 5 hours for him to come on IRC. I will try to dig up somethings. But you will need ADB so go get that.
Yeah, that blackberry is one hell of a leap backwards, nevermind the comments i get for carrying a purple phone. Even the wife likes to poke fun.
Ive been looking through the archives some and not sure what route to go, not farmiliar with ADB but i'll start looking into that.

If you didn't make a back up, there is a nandroid in the the development section. When did you get your phone? How long ago did you root it? Do you have Froyo or Gingerbread? If you had Ginger, of course Mt is right, you would do the Gingervolt. But you gotta take it back to your stock to get rid of decrap. Most of your answers will be in the Development section of our forums.
I didn't make a back up, so that isn't an option. I rooted and then broke the phone 2 to 3 months ago, i am not sure if that was before gingerbread or not. I guess i'll search the development section for answers on getting back to stock.

I disagree. I Hard Bricked my Revo. Won't get into details as it's not important and I managed to find a local seller via Craigslist for same day replacement.
What happened is a flash occurred that should've failed, but didn't. The power button would no longer function and the 'failsafe' usb, no battery recovery method would not even work either. I would get a quick response when pulling the battery with USB plugged in, but then it would fail beyond that. Have since then destroyed the board due to some very private files located on internal board that were 'in transition' and couldn't chance being recovered by other parties for security purposes. I do, however, have a nice parts phone, such as screen, body, and battery cover.
Anyhow, moral to the story.. YES, the Revo CAN BE BRICKED!

Also, if it was closer to 3 months ago then it was going to be froyo, right? Find the v4 stock and flash that. I'd link the thread but I'm on my Revo. : /
I found a rooted stock rom posted by thecubed, currently downloading that to my sd card. Anyone see a problem using that? Also found some tot files for stock. I think i had ver 6, but my phone wont let me check. Does it make a difference which one I use if i go that route?

You are nit making this easy, lol. You should have the v6 version. I would go to the tot file. Also you would have had froyo, but after a month it should have updated to ginger bread. So go get the v6, then I would check phone status and see if there is an update. majority of us got the gingerbread update, if you don't there isinfo on how to do it. If you do, there is the one click tool kit that will get your phone rocked out.

Jeez, I know, I just took him at his word, no need to fight over it. Lol. When cubed told me it was unbrickable he said he did everything possible too, and the secret to fixing it was dependent on how the phone acted, what lights were on, what the screen did, because each one had its own fix. I had a mismatch md5 and it said in the instructions don't turn off your phone. I did and caused it to brick. But there was a section in our forum to fix that brick. And with cubes help and mt laughing at me,we got it fixed.

Got it unrooted and back to stock! The phone still resets itself every minute or so. Not sure if that is because I manually forced it past the sim card setup screen. Anyway, at least I can now take it into verizon. Thanks all for the help.
Glad to hear you're making progress. You may still want to go the ADB route and put zv6 on. I understand getting the Over The Air push upgrade to zv7 will then get you the upgraded radio. I haven't heard any other method for getting the radio.
I found my own noob way to brick a Revo, not in a good way.

That kind of makes no sense flash the v7 tot it will get you to gingerbread get rid of your reboot issue. Also I wouldn't take the phone to Verizon unless you don't have cwm recovery in your phone cause more than likely they are going to try And factory reset your phone which will then boot into cwm recovery. Either way you're going the long way about fixing that phone.

Old posts like these (below) lead me to believe the radio is only OTA. Of course it's old info and things may have changed. I didn't follow the TOT thread/s as closely since my phone behaved and did the OTAs fine. Realized I forgot there was a radio update on zv6. That's partly why I was paying attention to mentions of radio upgrades and it was taking a while to get root for zv6.

VZW Halts OTA

I just got off the phone with VZW. Apparently, they've stopped rolling out the OTA because of "software issues," though he didn't specify beyond that. So, for all of you who have been waiting for the OTA over the past few days, off the top of his head, the tech guesstimated it'll be around a month before they begin rolling it out again. Lame.
Edit: You can still install the .217 leak...but if the update has been pulled for software issues, that obviously means .217 is no longer the official OTA.
What? thats BS! even though im on Eclipse ICS 1.2, its still BS for anyone still on GB!

Yeah, I've been mashing the "systems update" option habitually now for a couple days, but also avoided just manually updating to the .217 leak for this very reason. Either way, it is kind of disappointing.
honestly, if I were you, I would jump on either the 217 leak, or if you want a custom rom that's slightly themed and has extra features/no bloat, go with Eclipse
It wasn't supposed to be released for the general OTA, they did that on accident, only people who were signed up for the motorola feedback network test were supposed to get it, but for some reason they pushed it to all devices. It should be officially pushed in a week or so, because it appears the soak test isn't showing up any major issues.

EDIT: Did NOT work
I called VZW tech support earlier today because it was not working and they did not mention anything about it being halted, but it probably depends on which tech you speak with.
I am not sure if this works or not but the guy I spoke with did tell me that performing a factory reset can sometimes trigger the upgrade. I don't have anything on there that I can't live without or easily re-install so I am going to go ahead and give it a shot.
EDIT: Just tried above. Did NOT work

As mentioned above, there was no planned general release yet. Moto did a release for "a few thousand" phones, of which only a small portion are official MFN soak testers. The test will end soon, and it looks like no show-stopper issues have been found, so, if things go as usual, the general release will roll out, probably in groups, over the next several days.
Sounds like the OP spoke to someone in VZ who really didn't know why the release wasn't available and made something up. (And I bet you never thought a VzW rep would do that!)
Keep in mind, even if they had decided to halt it due to a showstopper bug, they've already released it to several thousand owners. Which means they're obligated to provide anyone on .217 with a way to get back onto the upgrade path, if they decide to release a newer update down the road.
All in all - if you're impatient, just install the current .217 files - you'll still be able to upgrade again later if you need to.
Btw: I'm on it now, and I ABSOLUTELY HATE the Dialer and Contacts being split apart into totally separate apps. I always hit the Dialer icon first, and then if I can't remember a person's phone number, I now have to back out of it and look up the contact first. Whereas on GB I just had to select the Contacts tab and go on. So from a human interface perspective, this new design sucks.

It's happened to me twice now in the last two days that I was unable to hear the people calling me. Switching to speaker mode or rebooting the phone fixed this. Actually only rebooting. Alternating between speaker and normal mode is just a temporary fix as long as I'm in speaker mode. Plug in the headset and it works. Take it out en again no sound... I think it happens after I use BT.
Maybe people who are on this update officially could raise a bit of fuss about this and ask to be put back onto Gingerbread?
As we all know this currently can't be done due to the highly restrictive bootloader, perhaps we could wangle a better bootloader out of this?

Well, we can certainly dream, but given a choice between unlocking the bootloader and shrugging apologetically and insisting nothing can be done, I'm dead sure Verizon will require Motorola to do the latter. :crying:
Installing OTA right now on my wife's D4
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using xda premium
Seems like more people are getting it now. I just got too antsy and went ahead and installed the .217 leak floating around, I bet if I had waited another day I could have gotten the OTA. Hopefully I did not ruin my ability to get future OTA updates.

You didn't. .217 is .217 no matter how you got it. Anyone on the "leaked" .217 is on the official update path as that is what was pushed as OTA.

If you had a nickel for every time you had to tell somebody that you could probably retire! LOL
Droid 4 - AOKP K1L0
Update fails anyway
I received the update this morning, and after attempting to install, it fails within 30 seconds and reboots. I factory reset, erasing everything, downloaded the update again, and same result. Anybody have any information on this? I pressed the volume up button and it says:

Just install from a PC via FastBoot.
ROM: http://sbf.droid-developers.org/cdma_maserati/list.php
Instructions: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dr...otorola-droid-4-xt894-stock-windows-only.html
Note. Do not download one of the two ROMs that post suggests, use the 217 ROM from my link above. Do not attempt to downgrade via this method either, it will not work. You might also want to skip steps 6-9 if you don't want to reset your data. Not sure how well this will work after an upgrade.
The soak test is over and "the software is officially released and will be rolling out in stages"....

Fantastic! I restored to stock and downloaded the update again, and it's currently installing without a hitch! Thanks!

From what I can tell that OTA seems legit. Some people were getting this update at least as far back as April 10, as you can tell from this thread. I received it around April 14. You can use it if you want to, or you can just go to http://www.htc.com/us/support/rom-downloads.html to get the full RUU. I'm sure some just haven't received it yet. I think they roll out updates to certain locations at different times.
Well I got my phone this month from Wal-Mart & when I turned it on it updated itself
me personally, was not able to update. I kept getting update failed, must be cause I don't have the stock kernel.
I apologize for not having any proof to make it legit, it's the first time I uploaded a file on here. Thanks Blaqueknight for having my back on that.

It will pop up again in a couple days. While it's gone use Titanium Backup and freeze Updater.apk and you won't see it again unless you thaw it.

Hey man it's ok I just didn't want anyone using this and it screw their phones up.
That's exactly what I did but it took me a few minutes to figure out it was simply named updater.apk, thanks for looking out.
