DANGER! Brick Bug ? Yes,Insane chip - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i tried the eMMC check and got Brick Bug? and the result is
Yes Brick Bug ? Yes,Insane chip in eMMC check
&
DANGER! This eMMC chip is *known* to have bring but in Got Brickbug?
How do i remove it ?
Currently i'm on RocketRom V1 JB version and using Speedmod Kernal.
Do i have to stop flashing rom and stick with the current one?

you cant remove it. it is about the chip but you can avoid triggering that bug by using a safe kernel.

yes speedmod is a safe kernel

all gn n7000 and several other phones have this emmc chip, hardbaked on mainboard of phone,
one does not simply remove it,
the bug will also not be solved
Only workaround is safe kernel

Which GB kernel should i install so that im safe? I searched but was not able to find appropiate solution. which thread should i refer to?

I know that a wipe through cwm may cause the brick bug. But a simple factory reset to the phone can also cause it to occur?
I might be terribly wrong, but my understanding is that both cwm wipe and factory reset done from affected ICS ROMs may result in superbrick, GB is considered safe (does not contain the feral command affecting the emmc), that's why most threads on ICS update suggest changing ICS ROMs via GB

Yeah maybe they must be safe, but when i installed the superbrick app from chainfire it showed that my phone was prone to bricking.
Since im on stock gb,il root my device and install the PARANOIDANDROID rom to be on the safe side. will that work ?
gotbrick app shows if you have the affected hardware, it does not mean that any operation will result in brick, it means there is a probability that this may happen when you attempt to flash or wipe using ICS kernel (the thread I mentioned is here),
since you plan to go from GB to ICS, there is no direct risk, at least no related to known causes of superbrick,
anyway, to spare yourself unnecessary panic attacks in the middle of flashing - before you attempt to flash anything read instrutions until you feel comfortable

I already read that thread. It says all GB kernels are safe. Since im on GB,il stay like this till the time any permanent solution comes up or will change to PARANOIDANDROID rom after reading how.! thank you for your help! Since i got the note today only i dont want to mess it up the very next day!
appreciate your help. thank you very much !
If its your first day, then I'd definitely recommend staying on GB for a few weeks, until you get bored with it, stock roms are not that bad, especially when you disable unnecessary crapware

It can occur with wipe cache/wipe data/factory reset/deleting big file, even it is recommended not to use recovery at all.

slight in-and-out movement is ok, side-to-side not, but if it does not does disturb your writing/sketching let it be, impresses you have Samsung service centre nearby

Downgrade to GB

Hello, I've looked around to find this answer but couldn't find an exact match. I want to downgrade from rocketrom ics to stock GB 2.3.6 using odin, my current. Kernel is franco. My device is checked and known to have dangerous eMMC bug. Is it completely safe to flash stock gb from rocketrom?

Cm kernels will not work with tw based roms, only with aokp/aosp, and vice versa. You'll have to read up on the kernel pages themselves on which rom types they support.
So flash to gb first, perform full wipe, root and install cwm, then you can install custom kernels and roms from there. Never install from ics kernel, only downgrade to gb to be safe.

Most of the rom files split down into three files but If you place the original tar file into pda, odin sorts out the partitions correctly for you.
All stock gb kernels are safe from emmc superbrick bug, safe to perform wipes.

Just upgraded to 4.0.4 using kies, is the kernel safe?

Just curious if this kernel also contains the brickbug and if I should return to speedmod or other friendly kernel. The one I got installed by kies is now:

No stock ICS kernel is safe.. Only Custom kernels with the MMC_CAP_ERASE disabled are safe.
Of Course YES if u will not flash any rom.... If u r thinking to do so..Think once again..It can cost u around 600$..

there have been isolated reports of getting brick using CF kernel as well. Though it has yet to be confirm on the how's and why's it got bricked.
Generally still. kernels that have the MMC_Cap_Erase command disabled should be okay.

This issue is with the cwm. Exe file only so far, which I believe is a shortcut root to rooting on ics. All kernels that have cwm baked in are ok.

Very true!
Bricked mine last week trying to installed cooked ROM.
Send it back to Samsung for repair under warrenty and they kindly fixed it for me.
Also installed ICS 4.0.4 for me too (It went with ICS 4.0.3).
Got back in 5 day including shipping back and forth. They even sent the bag for it.
Pretty happy with service.

Yes GB is definitely safe from Brick Bug.
You can downgrade to GB from ICS (I presume you are on ICS right now). But please follow to the point instructions given by Dr. Ketan for downgrade to pre-rooted GB ROM. The link can be obtained from his signature from the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1801341
you are right but you can be safe on ICS too if you want to
depends how you want to use your Note
If you're rooted on ICS - Just flash a safe ICS Kernel;
Speedmod
NoteCore
HydraCore

Bad chip/CM10.1

Hello,
I just rooted my N7000 with Philz kernel (i have root amd cwmr now), to get rid of the brick bug, but chainfires brickbug app says its still there, (I am still on stock rom) See attachment.
Is it really there? Or is it just the firmware, amd cant it harm my device?
Another question, I want to flash cm10.1 official nightly, but do I have to flash another kernel first? Can somebody provide a guide step by step with links, so probably nothing goes wrong?
Thanks in advanced!
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
It will always say bad chip because the chip is bad. The kernel will suppress the brick bug. So philz is a safe kernel and you will be safe. You can flash cm rom using the same kernel.

After you install cm10, it will install its own kernel and that's safe too.
If the chip is bad, did you scold it? Did you try giving it a 5 minute timeout?
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy SIV using Tapatalk 3
lol
op for your understanding, the brickbug is caused by a command that triggers faulty command in your emmc firmware, to fix it you need to flash the chip, impossible for 99,9999999999999999999999999999999999999 and so on and so forth%
You can shield that from happening by using a safe kernel (but not if you use a separate cwm. zip, then you can bypass safe kernel)
this means it will never be fixed, just prevented from happening
remember, after you flash safe kernel, reboot on that kernels recovery to be safe
