[Q] My X8 got laggy after failed overclock - XPERIA X8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

WARNING: I'm pretty much a noob at this stuff, so please bear with me.
Okay, first of all, and I'm not sure if this is relevant, a few days ago I hard-bricked my phone trying to unlock the bootloader. I got it repaired (I think they changed the motherboard or something) and after that I installed GingerDX (for stock kernel) and everything was working fine and smooth. Then, I tried to overclock it with a module for overclocking (not sure what it was called) and SetCPU.
When I inserted the module, everything was working fine. But then I installed SetCPU and tried something with it. I think I tried setting it to a higher frequency, but not much. And after that, it rebooted itself. And it kept rebooting all the time. It would turn on for less than a minute and then it would reboot.
I wasn't exactly sure what to do, and since I didn't have much time and I needed my phone, I just went into CWM, made a full wipe and just installed GingerDX again. But when I turned it on, it was lagging quite a lot. Not THAT much, but it was quite visible and irritating.
I tried to change the governor from ONDEMAND to PERFORMANCE, and it showed that the CPU frequency had changed from 600MHz to about 700MHz I think, but it still felt the same. Then I switched it back to ONDEMAND, and it's still the same.
Does anyone have any idea on how to fix this? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Are you sure this will fix it? Because I don't want to lose all my installed apps just for trying something out. It takes a lot of time to re-install all of them.

Use Titanium backup to backup , and then restore

On stock kernel , the more the frequence the laggier the device will become.

Just did a double full wipe and flashed the ROM again and it's fixed now. Thanks a lot for your help guys!

For me, the overclock never work on froyobread and gingerdx on stock kernel. When I install the module, the phone just stay unstable, and without a overclock (at 600 mhz with module installed), the performance is sh!t. So, if u need overclock, install a rom with include the module, like cm7 v7 (i dont know). The best is unclock bootloader, but i dont do this.

install app for overclocking then...many available.

I dont need overclock and I test many apps for these, but just test in froyobread and gingerdx. The overclock works for me on cm7 v6, but again, I dont need this. Its just a sugestion.

[Q] Plane mode bug

Hi everyone.
So, this is my problem:
http://images.orkut.com/orkut/photo...9E7ePr_8Am1T1UHiPgwGpeh7tb_Dn59t24Hsb_ZWU.jpg
My wi-fi is turning on by itself after i manually turn it off. And even when i set plane mode the wi-fi is still on. At first i thought it was impossible and i was dreaming but no. This is really annoying me, my battery won't last a day with my wifi always on.
If anyone could possibly help me with this problem i would really aprecciate it! =(
Oh and i already tried wiping all user data and tried flashing other roms as well. I tried shadowmod and cyanogen too. currently i'm using the froyomod 2.7. All have the same problem. I really don't know what to do.

Do you have any 3rd party power saving apps installed? For example, I have an app called "Network Switcher" installed, that given certain conditions, it turns on or off 3g and wifi. I have it set to turn 3g and wifi off between 11:15pm and 7:15am if the screen is off. (this helps save a ton of battery while I'm sleeping)
Your screenshot doesn't look like a clean stock ROM, so even if you did wipe data, it looks like you installed some stuff. Did you do a complete wipe back to stock, and it's still doing this?
No, i don't use any apps to save battery or manage my networks. And yes, everytime i install or upgrade to a new rom i wipe all data. I haven't tried using the 2.2 stock rom to see if i'd have the problem there too. I'm currently using froyomod, i have always used modified roms and i'd never had this sort of problem before.

So when did it start happening? Did you notice it after you installed something? Or after you flashed your current ROM? Did you have anything installed before that may have been saved to your SD card using apps2sd, and it somehow got "lost", but the setting remained?
If I were you, I would flash the stock 2.2.1 SBF (get it here: http://and-developers.com/sbf:milestone221), and reflash the latest FroyoMOD on top of that. First back up all your app data using TB though, and restore afterwards. That may be your only hope.
I noticed it after i installed Froyomod 2.7, but i don't think it was the rom since nobody else complained about a problem like that. And i haven't installed any different apps than the ones i've always used.
Thank you for the advice! I'll try to flash the SBF file right now, and i will also erase my SD Card, just in case.
I'll let you know after it's done. Thanks again!!
Unfortunately i did everything as i was told and nothing worked, the problem won't go away. Guess i'll have to use the 2.1 stock rom. It's better than having my wi-fi always on. But thanks for the help!! =)

Turns out you're not the only one... see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1064823
They did not have any solutions that worked for them either though. Sorry.
Yes, a few people had this problem as well, but nobody said if they got to fix it or if it stopped.
The most annoying thing: I went back to 2.1 stock rom because i thought it would stop, when i installed it was ok but after a few hours that i'm using the rom the problem started again.
This really sucks. I will never buy any motorola products no more.
Anyway, thanks for your help. It's really good to have helpful people on this forum.
Turning the airplane mode on will not disable your wifi... only the radio(antena).
The question is: does your radio works normally?

Yes, everything is working normally, only the wifi that won't turn off.
Ok... there are two free apps on the Market that might fiz your problem.
1) Wifi Fixer
2) FXR Wifi fix and Rescue
Try it and let us know.

I had already tried wifi fixer before, didn't work.
Tried FXR and didn't work as well! Honestly i'm giving up.
I will sell this phone as soon as i get the chance and i'm never gonna buy a motorola ever again! -__-'

Dont give up yet... have you tried flashing the GOT 2.2.1?
Try this and flash CM7 over it.

I tried CM7 and had the same problem. I think it might be a hardware problem because i tried everything. :/

Hi, I think the problem is coming from the ROM.
First you should wipe cach/data. I mean factory reset, then download a newly fresh Open Recoveries, and do the flash ROM again and place it into SD card (remember to delete the old one: Nandroid and Open recoveries folders and update.zip file). THIS STEP IS IMPORTANT.
Here is the link of CM7 ROm but very light. it si good for MS than ever:
http://www.mediafire.com/?hdymcqvueo8opm9
Below is the google apps package:
http://www.mirrorcreator.com/files/GV5OSDAN/Gapps_CM7_new.zip_links (including Gtalk)
I use it and it works well.

system is not responding - why?

I get this message with every ROM I tried with fresh install or "restored".
It happens almost everytime I install or uninstall some app or do something cpu intensive! Why? Does system have the highest priority when in use?
It happens in GB and ICS!
Let's not talk about how SLOW and unresponsive it gets after you install or remove something. I really don't get why. Never happened with another android device I have :S
More info, what Rom + Kernel and ramhack are you use...?
What app unistal, system app or user app...?
Because if u remove some system app get errors and freezing...
Fresh install is wipe data / factory reset before install a new rom...
It happened with every single rom/kernel I used. And also with a fresh install wiping before installing
Don't worry you're not alone.
System has stopped responding occurs frequently on my phone when installing uninstalling or updating apps.
I'm on Temasek cm7 120.

Strange, I use temasek CM 7 at long time ago + vadonka's kernel and don't have some issues like you... My phone is faster, responsive like a first day with + 100 app instaled... I don't have your problem... Try flash only rom without kernel and looks if is stable...

I would like to know the reason! My inexpert guess: some process gets all the cpu with a high priority causing everything else to queue, basically the resources are not balanced
Is it know that tegra 2 might have bottleneck problems?

Help, Touchpad resets after a few minutes of use

Hi, I'm having a problem with my Touchpad 32GB. I'm having problem with the CM9 2012/11/18 build. I've installed it, but after a few minutes of use, it resets on me. I've done it a few times, same problem. I've restore it back to webos 3.0 using this page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426244 and I've tried installing it again, but I still get the same problem.
The files that I have in the cminstall folder when I started are:
moboot_0.3.5
update-cm-9-20121118-NIGHTLY-tenderloin
update-cwm_tenderloin-1012
And when I run the novacom command, I'm using the ACMEInstaller2.
Can someone help me with this problem? Also, on a side note, which version of Android would be most stable?
Thanks in advance for any help.

I use the 11/18 nightly and it works fine for me.
Take a look at this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2002968
It could help with your rebooting problem. I've been lucky, never have had that problem.
Make sure if you doctor back to 3.0.0 to update to 3.0.5. You can do it OTA.
Good luck.

Okay, I'll give that a shot. I'm curious, can you tell me which version of ACMEInstaller did you use? Thanks
Update:
Playing a sound didn't seem to work. There were some sounds played when I tap a button, but I also played a music button to be sure, but it still restarted on me after a few minutes.
Update 2:
I've restore my touchpad hopefully back to the way it was when I got it. Can someone give me some direction on what to use to install Android, hoping what I originally done caused some kind of problem.
I used acme installer 2.
I recommend using ACMEInstaller3. It will be necessary if you ever want to install Jelly Bean, so might as well do it now.

I dont remember where the setting is on CM roms, but if you go into settings, then they should have a cyanogenmod setting option, then performance I think. The min clock CPU speed is 192 I believe, I can't run anything below 384, and on some rom's I have to set the min at 432 or it will randomly reboot. Not saying this will solve your issue, I was just curious what your speeds were set to.
You can also use an app from the play store, such as kernel tuner or no frills cpu to set your speeds.

Just reinstalled CM9 on it using ACMEInstaller3. The min/max is 384/1188 MHz. This time, it was a little different. A few minutes in, I tried to turn on the WiFi and the screen gone blue. I restarted it and and up the CPU speed. It restarted in a few minutes, last longer this time. I wiped the both cache and did a fix permission, saw it in another post, and it restarted within the first 2 minutes after it boots into CM9.

help - need something retarded

hi - i installed the beastmode kernel on my phone and using setcpu i set the max clock to 1800mhz....
now my phone locks up as soon as it boots to the home screen, i cant get into setcpu fast enough to change it back.
is there anything i can do about this other than having to wipe and reinstall the rom?
thanks

You could try reflash the kernel see if it helps. Or flash another kernel then flash that one again.
Btw when you OC it is recommended to not set on boot the new frequency until you test it for some time without rebooting. Once you see it works fine you can set on boot.
thanks for reply - flashed redux which i remembered had max clock of 1500 mhz, and it worked again.
thanks lol
will know for again! (hopefully!)
Set on boot is not your friend. Set on boot will never be your friend. However wiping the phone would have worked fine.

Please Help with Motorola!

Hi.
Am using Motorola Milestone (A853) running on Cyanogenmod 7.
Am having a telephony problem since few days and my mobile frequently is having this error and asking for a reboot. Error image is attached below.
I have installed Vulnerable recovery, Open recovery (2nd boot).
When I had this problem, I reinstalled open recovery, wiped dalvic cache, external partition cache but still am getting this error.
Please help me to fix this.
Thank you.

Most of the time it is caused by having the 2.1 BPSW (baseband processor software) instead of the 2.2
I recommend flashing these two files (bpsw and devtree) just to be sure.
Good luck.
I have applied the updates you mentioned. Will check if my mobile if i gives or not the error again. Will post if it is fixed.
Thank you.

I think you have installed CM 9.1 in your Milestone!
Can you please give me a feedback about the performance and usage of milestone on CM 9.1!
Thank you
It works great. I'm not saying it is as speedy as on a newer phone, but most of the time its okay. If it slows down, I just restart the phone and the problem is solved.
I recommend you to try it out for yourself. I also recommend to change the stock launcher.
