I have bought a USB Micro B connector with 5 leads. The leads are as follows:
HTML:
<pre>
o o
o o o
</pre>
I assume the pin numbers are like this:
HTML:
<pre>
1 2
3 4 5
</pre>
Attached is am image of the Micro B connector. (With clamp-able enclosure).
Yes. The fifth pin needs to be jumped to the power(pin 1 or 2 can't remember which off hand) with a 1k resistor. The ground would be number four so make sure 4 and 5 don't cross(really bad). Double check what I've just explained as I could have mixed up without it in front of me.

Thanks. I was actually unclear about the 5 metal lead that can be soldiered. These 5 leads are arranged such that there are 2 lead on the top row, and 3 lead on the bottom row. There are two possible PIN number arrangement:
HTML:
<pre>
1 2
3 4 5
</pre>
OR
HTML:
<pre>
2 4
1 3 5
</pre>
According the to factory cable guide for Kindle fire I need to jump PIN 1 with PIN 4. But I do not know how the Pin arrangement/layout is on a Micro USB B connector.

Does anyone know how the Team Black Hat factory cables work? What's different internally that allows the phone to boot normally, but without the battery?
I made my own. On a normal cable pin 1 is 5v+, pin 2 and pin three are transmit and receive(Tx-Rx), Pin 4 is unused, and Pin 5 is Neg-.
On the TBH cable (also known as a Motorola Factory Programming cable) Pin 4 is used as a 5v+. So essentially if you can find a cable that you can get access to the pins (I went through a few till I found an accessible one) you can solder a jumper wire from the #1 pin to the #4 Pin and it allows you to flash your phone in fastboot no matter what the current charge status of the battery is (or potentially whether there's even a battery at all)
It's a lifesaver if you do a lot of flashing or modding to Motorola phones. Especially phone like the RazR that have an internal battery. I've been stuck in fastboot a cvouple times on a dead battery unable to flash and had to hardwire the battery. This solved that issue. I also find I have a lot less failed flashes as well.
If you're not the small electronics savvy kinda person, I highly reccomend grabbing one up from any available source.

Couldn't I just cross over a few wires in the actual cable instead of trying to work with the tiny plug?
Queberican, also, how does Moto make it so that other/older USB cables are only seen as power. Are the transmit & receive crossed over internally? I have an older cable I carry with me for on the go charging and it's only seen my by D3 as a power supply, but my friend's D Inc sees this same cable as data and power.

Before we had our cables produced for us and started making them available, MotoCache1 wrote up the procedure and explanation and posted it.
We were very sensitive to accusations that we were trying to exploit users who had bricked their phones by selling them overpriced cables.
The truth is that having these custom made in very small quantities is expensive, especially doing it domestically in the US using premium quality components.
I dont know if any of you guys know this but if you call moto and till them the phone you got from verizon was referbished they will send you a new charging block and usb data cable for free i did this and my new moto cable works good

So, basically, all I need to do is add a split to the pin 1 wire so that I can provide power to both pins 1 and 4?

I may do this just so I don't have to butcher my current cable. I want to build a "factory/programming cable" that allows me to flash and/or boot without a battery.

The same exact type of cable is used with the Kindle.
If you don't wish to make your own. You can get them on ebay around $10. Search kindle factory cable or fastboot cable.
I have used it with the Droid 3 to flash and power without battery.
Hi team and members,
I am facing issues with note screen and s-pen. My note is almost 10 months old.
Issues as follow:
1. Screen and touch does not respond to its potential while charging. Other wise its response is perfect. Eg: while charging, shortcut in internet browser (finger drag from left or right corner) does not work but works fine when not charging.
2. S-Pen sometimes work without touching screen. Eg: when I write a word using s-pen and pick the s-pen from screen to place it to other position, it drags a line between to words.
I am not sure if this is software(OS) issue or screen or s-pen or hardware issue. I am on stock 4.0.4 ICS.
Help and response will be appreciated.
Thanks.

1. It some times happens if the socket is not properly earthed, it can interfere with touch sensitivity. Try a different wall plug preferably a 3 Pin on
2. not had that at all.. but try disabling the hovering spen icon from settings and test it
Thanks for your response my friend but charger itself has 2 pin plug. How can I use 3 pin plug? I have 4 chargers
1. N7000,
2. Galaxy ace,
3. HTC wildfire,
4. Sony tipo.
But all are 2 pin.
Kindly suggest.

no i mean use a 3 pin socket ... not a 3 pin charger.
Can you please suggest how will that help as charger is 2 pin and 3rd earthing circuit will not complete.

i have noticed that if i change the socket, the response restores. so just try it out
i just bought mhl adapter for galaxy SIII and it's worked well with my note 2 although there is no sound
today i tried again with another TV and suddenly it wasn't work! it only charge my device and even the message "HDMI connected" didn't appear
what should i do? is there any certain setting?
1. Buy one made by Samsung.
2. Return the cheap Chinese one you have.

Are you sure its 11pin not 5pin?
When that happens with my Note 1, I power cycle it and its adapter starts working again.
How can you tell if is 11 pin?
My old mhl still works on note one, htc sensation and skyrocket doesn't work on note2

Look at the MHL micro usb connector. You will see a 2 step connector. 6 pins on the lower step, 5 pins on the inside step. You can also look at the Note 2 micro usb plug and you can see the 2 step connector pins.
Lol it was fake

Did you get a Samsung one?

Is your Samsung MHL adapter like this...
Mine cuts in and out (both video and audio), and wiggling the entire set of attachments seems to bring it back. I've replaced the hdmi cable and power adapter / cable to no avail. Also, the power plug into on the MHL adapter seems very loose at the pin connection. But even with the charge indicator on, the video/audio signal cuts in and out randomly.
just looking for a little help, i have my nexus 7 and im looking to attach a usb joypad to the device. now i understand the use of the usb otg cable but that has not arrived yet, in the meantime i am trying to use a female to female usb adapter and on one end i plug in the joypad and the other end i plug in the usb cable for the nexus 7. am i being a huge n00b here. can someone explain to me why this does not work?
Look through other forms on XDA for the full OTG cable info because I know I've seen it here. But short answer is that a normal cable has 4 of the 5 lines of a USB connection in use, power +- and data +-, but an OTG cable uses all 5. I believe that the 5th line gets shorted to one of the other lines to indicate its OTG-ness but I'm not sure which is why I suggested looking for threads in other forums here at XDA if you want that info.

note 5 cable
cannot find where to get a second cable for my note 5. I am coming from a note 3 so I know that cable is different but what about the note 4 cable, is it the same? Thanks

Yes the note 4 cable will be the same. Any standard micro usb should work but if you want Samsung specific Amazon has them on the cheap. The Note 3 is only different because of the USB 3.0 but actually a standard micro USB cable will work on the Note 3 as well. But again, virtually any store that sells phones or computer peripherals should have cables that will work.
Yes any micro USB cable will work. However, if you want to charge your battery with quick charge 2.0/adaptive fast charge then you need a cable with thicker gauge wire.
