Hopefully no one gets upset I'm asking this here but I figured it would be ok since I'm in the "off topic" section and I can always find answers I need regarding my Droid so I figured you tech savy ppl could help me
Toshiba Satellite Laptop screen barely comes on?
I've been searching everywhere (online) for answers.
Long story short, my laptop screen stopped turning on. Even if solid the lights come on (AC/Pwr), I hear the internal fan, hard drive, etc. if I try and Turn the laptop on 10x the screen may only come on twice (if I hold down f1 and f2) It's windows 7. I reinstalled the OS (via partition) and still had the error. (cmos needs replacing too I hear but ppl say that won't give me errors like I get)
What do the errors in these pictures mean? Is the problem hardware or software or bios?

I think its the software. Try rebooting into a dvd or a flash drive (if you know that). If that works you are good to go
On the first look, apparently u have ram misconfigured on bios settings
The bios could have loaded one of the predefined settings and its incompatible with ur ram (it could be because something messed those settings or u have ram with different speeds/sizes
Take a note of every setting in bios and try loading the default settings to see if that error still occurs, if still exist those errors, go to the ram settings and look for one option that says something like allow compatibility
If there are no errors, put back the noted bios settings except the ones for the ram.
Or u have a busted ram module
Anyway more info about the laptop would do wonders in path to the correct solution

Hi all,
I have a friend who rooted his Galaxy Tab and has used odin to partition his device, an ext 4 partition i think, anyway, something failed and and gave an error and he turned it off because it became non responsive and now it wont turn on, the screen lights up but nothing comes on, power and up or down does nothing and power with up and down also does nothing, rooted with v4root.
Sorry if this is a little vague but is there anything anyone can say which might be able to help? I know adb can be used from the bootloader (or is it recovery) but if those key cominations are doing nothing then how could he get to it?
Thanks in advance and sorry if i sound vague.
Pm me with more details and ill help you out.
1. Can you get into recovery or dl mode?
2. Will it charge?
3. If connected to computer, will computer still recognize it?

Hi and thanks for replying,
Answers to his questions are below:
1. Can you get into recovery or dl mode?
NO – when pressing power and down (or up) it just makes the screen light up after about 10 secs then the light will turn off after you let go of the button
2. Will it charge?
Looks like it, although I do not get any icon to say it is charging or not. Have tried holding down the power and touching the screen (mentioned on another Forum) to see if the icon will appear but nothing. Have left it on charge from the mains all night (over 8 hours)
3. If connected to computer, will computer still recognize it?
No – Have installed the latest version of Kies and my machine does not pick it up as a connected device at all. Also, Odin no longer see’s it connected via USB (yellow tab with a COM number)
Like i said sorry for being a little vague, hope this helps.
Hi itsjusttim,
dladz is helping me out with this Tab issue. He said it best to try and post on xda and look for similar posts.
I've looked around and am very stuck at this moment in time.
If you want to PM me, please do

Ello m8,
If you get a resolution post here so others can maybe get a hand from it.
Best thing I can think of is to let it charge overnight and try again to connect to odin.
If thats a nogo then I think I read somewhere that someone was making jigs to get into dl mode.
These things have helped others from recovering there tabs. I bricked my tab a month ago, tried the jig and still didnt work. I ended up calling samsung and "played stupid" and got it fixed. [$99.99 repair]
EDIT: just looked over my bill and the part they replaced is labeled as "PBA" and cost nothing to replace.
let me know if there are any other qs. Imo, looks as there is a way to avoid the $99 'standard repair' charge.

looks like I've gota send it to Repair Center feel like such a n00b to do it but after lots of post reading and forum searching it seems like it's the only way!
Spoke to Samsung and they said coz "i've tried to do a software update and there is no software update yet officially available, that I may have voided warranty". I basically played dumb and they said to send it in.
It's looking like I'm getting it replaced or reflashed by them now, so hopefully will have it back soon and working
Really wish you good luck. Please keep us updated if/how much they charged you...

Hi all I read these forums every night and dont think I have seen anyone that has this issue? (Touchscreen controlling itself)
Sorry about quality I only have 2 hands
I am stock ROM, no root and locked boot loader (I have tried custom ROMs get same issue)
P.S it happens randomly and is fixed for an undetermined amount of time after a reboot

Hmmmmmm it could be a hardware issue, maybe the digitizer wiring is faulty or some contacts on the screen are bad and causing shorting. Ive only ever gotten ghost touches from heat but nothing like what your video shows haha its like its possessed!
Sorry all. I forgot to make the video public. Should work now.
I'm thinking this is a hardware issue. What do you think?
I have turned on developer options and show touch option so when it does it again I will see exactly where its detecting input

Did you get any moisture in it? I was using my Nexus outside and if a snowflake landed on it it would register as a touch. Does tilting it have any effect on the phantom touches?

If it's plugged in, screen is dirty, and potentially if there is a screen protector on, all of those could potentially cause weirdness.
If none of those things, and a factory reset doesn't fix it, warranty it.
Thanks for your replies, I have been from stock to rooted and back effectively factory resetting twice, but I did reset again last night for good measure. I'm a clean freak when it comes to my tablet, use a lint free cloth on the thing regularly. the video was recorded after picking the device up after a period (whole day) of none use. Since turning on the developer options, sods law it hasn't happened again.. I was hoping it would point out for me where the input is detected. When it first happened it was clicking random things in Facebook.. I thought some app had hijacked my device!, its been happening for weeks.. But until now as it only happens a couple of times a day I have rebooted and shrugged my shoulders.. But as you can imagine it is getting rather irritating.. I'll see how I get on and warranty it if neccesary

It has been mentioned here a # of times, descriptive terms varied and there's another youtube video floating here - don't freak out b/c I went thru that myself with the older 16G WiFi model - to the point where I shut down the wireless router, change the IP & LAN address and zipped up the firewall settings tightly just to be sure, and, even turned put the N7 into airplane mode, and checked to make sure that Bluetooth & NFC were not turned ON or left on, etc. (It's like the N7 is running in a Remote Terminal mode when IT used "logmein" to take over our desktop when one of the update patches stalled ...)
Stock Rom was worst for me, 4.1.2 was better vs. 4.2.x but some of the newer custom Rom like "Smooth" were not as crazy as PA, which seemed to be in an endless loop ... I've returned it to local Staples & exchanged it for a (paid upgrade) new 32GB WiFi model - warranty work is definitely indicated (return the device to stock & lock up the bootloader, etc. & do a factory reset to clear everything before boxing it away)
Good luck.
I had whatever, that updated to 7.3 as soon as I turned it on. Rooted fine with KF First Aide. Installed ES File Explorer, Google Play, etc. All was well. Then I read a post here how hard it was to copy/paste with ES File Explorer. I was joking about it with my husband and showing him how easy it was and copied random file... literally just randomly long pressed a file to show him the options, picked copy, and then went to another directory and *meant* to point to but touched paste instead... it was one of the Google Play files.
Kindle fire hd 7" immediately started freaking out. A mac address type error flashing so quick I couldn't do anything else. It was the same low letters and numbers you'd get with a mac address but said error and just an OK button which did nothing when you manage to tap in while flashing. Restarted, thinking if I was lucky Google Play just would't work... got the red triangle and neither option helped. So I ordered one of SkOrPn's cables which works flawlessly and boots right into fastboot. Yay for SkOrPn! Not so ya for me... (not their fault!).
It shows up as "Tate-PVT-08". I've tried every variation of driver I can find. Uninstalling all old things I can find, complete with the command line command to show ghost hubs/devices and what not and removing them and shut down/start up fresh too... no joy. Also removing and restarting between each driver try... neither of the Amazon drivers work for fastboot for me. I've tried so many things at this point my brain is fried.
So I'm hoping someone can help direct me how to fix this. . I won it in an online giveaway, so I'm not out anything, but it'd sure be nice to use it! As messed up as the Kindle crap is I'd be pissed if I bought it... but I'm majorly spoiled on Sony (Ericsson) and their "ya, play with it, screw it up, we don't care, here's how to fix it online just plug it in"... even before they had the online thing they'd let you send it back (and paid shipping both ways for it!) would reflash firmware and send it back with paper ticket that said "No problems found" lol... even on a device you actually bricked (wouldn't turn on... not the cute "brick"="I screwed it up but it's fixable" that people use now).
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Especially if you could steer me to drivers that work for 2nd generation HD 7 inch in fastboot on Windows 8. Thanks for reading if nothing else!
Try The SoupKit found here.

Swap cables. Boot with the factory cable then switch to a normal one.
Thanks for the reply, but I've been doing that. Great advice for anyone who doesn't know though!
You couldn't have damaged anything by just copying a file unless either:
You cut the file
OR
You overwrote a system file
OR
You filled up your system partition.
If you still need help, I might be able to do some researching.

Thanks, I was hoping there was a better answer than just keep uninstalling/reinstalling various drivers in various ways til it works lol.
I've got a pc I haven't plugged it in to I'll try this weekend, if that doesn't work I'll do the Linux Soup Kit.

That was my first thing to try. Unfortunately one of them says stopped by user (preferred one) and the alternate won't install, gets to the end of installing and says didn't install, do manually... which has the same results. I'm getting the same results on another pc. Fun times lol.
Edit... I give up, it's Linux time. Will report back later.
My husband did the Soup kit (correct version, followed directions, etc.) with it for me while I was at work today on an pc he put Linux on (so nothing phone/tablet/adb/driver has ever touched it for anything). He's more savvy with Linux, I haven't used it much since the 90s while he regularly has it as a dual boot on his main pc. He used Ubuntu, followed the Soupkit directions and still no Linux love either.
I'm pretty much down to just sending it back, worst case they send it back and tell me I'm screwed. Both of us are so spoiled on Sony (me) and Google/Nexus (him)... that this some things only works sometimes and just keep bashing your head into the wall and something you already tried three times will work thing is out of our frame of reference (which is what it took to get it rooted lol). I've already spent more time trying to fix the stupid thing for something that shouldn't have even caused an issue than I've spent on both my Sonys combined... even though I've borked both more than once... crazy.
My only advice ... buy a real tablet lol. Luckily I won this so I'm not out anything if Amazon won't swap it... but I really like the 7" size for book reading.
I'll fix it for you...

Ya did all that fun stuff, repeatedly with various drivers with all the 20 steps in between to remove others, lol.
Husband spent quite some time with Linux and SoupKit to no avail also. He could get his phone to work (making sure he had all the rules and steps correct), but it never would do anything with the tablet.
I gave up and called Amazon late Monday. They had me turn it on and verify the red triangle screen then sent me a new one that arrived today. Take the new one out of the box and put the old one in they said. They paid shipping both ways. If they complain I'll tell them send me the old and I'll send the new one back lol (at my expense). If they want to make the thing such a mess to deal with what do they expect? They know there's a whole group of people that won't live with the crappy launcher mess they have .
Just got my One today and been playing with it. First thing I noticed is that I can't find a way to mount it as a disk drive to easily move music over. Am I missing something here or is it an actual problem?
Thanks

If you have the drivers installed it should just open a dialog box and chose view files.

As dumb as thus sounds have you taken a photo on the phone yet? For some reason the phone doesn't make its internal memory available as a hard drive until you have taken at least one photo. Kid you not. I spent almost an hour trying 3 different ways on 2 different computers and a fellow tech goes... Take a photo... I looked at him like he was crazy, but sure enough I unplugged the unit took a photo of the ground, plugged it back in and suds enough there it was.

Are you on a Mac? If so then you're gonna need this http://www.android.com/filetransfer/
I am using windows xp. Everytime I plug it in it shows up on my computer as an MTP device and installs itself as a CD ROM drive.
****FIXED****
Alright, here's the answer for anyone else that feels as dumb as me. I guess google and microsoft got into bed on this one... You must have Windows media player 11(or higher I assume) installed for the drive to show up. I've been trying to stay away from WMP for the longest time... now it's a must for me to access the internal storage on my phone.

OK so i noticed over the course of about 6 days my phones screen would glitch, when i say glitch i mean crazy colors and sometimes just go dark. a reboot would sometimes fix it other times it would take a few reboots. Now the screen doesnt come on at all. I have tried everything. Removing the built in battery for some time, charging, connecting to PC, wiggling the LCD etc etc.
I have about 4 years of pictures and videos on this phone with unfortunately no backups anywhere!!!!
I have got to get them off this phone one way or another.
Is there anyway i can work around a dead screen to copy files from the phones internal memory.
I have ADB, Fastboot, CentOS, Kubuntu, Kali, Winders 7,XP, and 8 to work with here so whatever it might take im down to try anything if anyone has any good ideas. Heck ill even take bad ideas at this point!!! ANYTHING would be better than what i got now.
(i should give a few details. when the phone boots up i hear the "DROID" boot animation sound the soft keys used to light up, the keyboard backlight comes on after sliding the screen out. All with no luck!!!
Please let me know if there is anything i can try here!!
Thanks
Evan Calo
Just 2 options quickly:
1) After the phone boots up, just plug it on a Windows PC through USB. If it recognizes the phone in mass storage mode, you should see the internal and external storage, then you're golden.
2) If that doesn't work, try to plug it on a TV or monitor through HDMI. You can use screen mirroring or webtop to reach the phone interface (if you are on stock ROM). Even if the LCD is bad, the digitizer should work so it recognizes the touch, helps you navigate.
I hope that helps.
