[Q] Cannot mount as disk drive - Sprint HTC One (M7)

Just got my One today and been playing with it. First thing I noticed is that I can't find a way to mount it as a disk drive to easily move music over. Am I missing something here or is it an actual problem?
Thanks
Kyle

If you have the drivers installed it should just open a dialog box and chose view files.

there is really no easy way on mac tho now.... osx doesnt really support mtp well

As dumb as thus sounds have you taken a photo on the phone yet? For some reason the phone doesn't make its internal memory available as a hard drive until you have taken at least one photo. Kid you not. I spent almost an hour trying 3 different ways on 2 different computers and a fellow tech goes... Take a photo... I looked at him like he was crazy, but sure enough I unplugged the unit took a photo of the ground, plugged it back in and suds enough there it was.

Are you on a Mac? If so then you're gonna need this http://www.android.com/filetransfer/

I am using windows xp. Everytime I plug it in it shows up on my computer as an MTP device and installs itself as a CD ROM drive.

****FIXED****
Alright, here's the answer for anyone else that feels as dumb as me. I guess google and microsoft got into bed on this one... You must have Windows media player 11(or higher I assume) installed for the drive to show up. I've been trying to stay away from WMP for the longest time... now it's a must for me to access the internal storage on my phone.

Was going to suggest this too. Been working for me, but Google could definitely fix this thing up.

[Q] USB Port Kaput , Internal SD card recognized as USB Storage, can't root.

Good day folks,
I am in a bucket of hot soup at the moment with my Galaxy S.
Firstly, my Micro USB port has decided to call it a day (I have tried the alcohol cleaning trick and all other "fixes" at this stage I am contemplating getting a new MicroUSB port and installing it) . At the moment the only thing it can do is charge the phone and so perhaps I should be grateful for small mercies.
However, No USB means download mode is now unavailable to me.
This also impacts rooting with a PC. A lack of root means I cannot update my gps.conf, I cannot install a custom recovery and I cannot install custom roms. I also cant back-up or re-install my apps using titanium. I also cant use googletalk 1.3+ wth voice and video calling.
Secondly, my Internal SD card is mounted by the system and recognised as "USB storage". I can still use most apps even though its mounted with the wrong name however certain apps looking for Internal SDcard cannot find my storage. So I need to somehow change that. How do I do that?
For an individual used to running custom roms and tweaking my device any which-way I please, I find my galaxy s very unattractive right now.
I got into this situation when I was coming from Jetpack and I was moving to Simplicity. Simplicity just would not boot. At this point my phone was stuck with no ROM and after sitting and fiddling for about 5 hours with a several micro usb cables and plugging and unplugging my phone odin recognised it for one last flash and i was able to get stock JVT on it. I lost Clockword Mod 3 and so now stuck with stock recovery and thats as good as having no recovery
I really dont want to buy a new phone till I can make a decision between Nexus Prime and Galaxy S3. Im a firm believer in as close as possible to a 2 year phone cycle and my galaxy s has just turned 1 year 3 months.
So if i can root this thing I have now and survive another 6-9 months I'll be a happy man.
Help? Suggestions?
Cheers guys
You say you got stock on it... Any particular reason that you cant give it in for repair? SGS is 2 year warranty as remember...
Also crazy idea, if it is possible, turn cf-root into a update.zip and get it signed LOL. Or check to see if you can use cyanogenmod, and work your way around from there?
Lastly which you should probably do first, another computer?? (or did i miss that?) Oh and check drivers, reinstall them.. (I dont know what fixes you have tried...i just know you've tried)

Really didnt know that about the warranty. Not practical for me as the country I bought it in is different to the country in which I reside. And Samsung Here wont support/honour the warranties from There yeah what a pain . When I bought the phone I semi-bricked it and had to ship it back and forth to the other country. At the time it was worth it because the shipping values were less than 25% the value of the phone. However now shipping would be almost 100% of the current value of the phone.

List of "fixes" include amongst others,
1) Different makes of micro-usb cables.
2) Different computers, 3 to be exact.
3) Cleaning the USB port , alcohol trick , scratching with a wire trick , tissue paper trick.
4) Driver un/re-install on all three machines.
5) Rebooting phone interspersed with varying combinations of cable, computer, cleaning steps all to no avail.
All in all, the ownership of this galaxy has been a bit of a pain because I got it within a week of its release and it turns out it was part of that notorious batch that had no 3BR hence the intial semi-bricking.

Hey, did you find any solutions? I have the same problem and I can't find any answer to it... Please help
Try this method this worked for me once:
1. Remove battery, plug usb cable with other end connected to pc, insert battery and switch on. I expect you've selected the usb debugging

It is definitely a moisture problem. I managed to change the USB port and that didnt make a different but I also noticed that my board is starting to corode.
So i tried to cleaning the coroded bits gently with a piece of cloth soaked in alcohol and I had one last flash and so I finally managed to root and get clockwork mod.

After doing a lot of research I discovered that this galaxy s is very prone to moisture issues.
1) Its not well put together so moisture does tend to get into it.
2) Moisture from your hands
3) The daily heating and cooling effects of sun. Especially if you live in a humid environment. The moisture condenses internally in the device. I live 100m from the beach.
4) I also use my phone to monitor my regular cycling activies. I ride in the rain etc and although I have what I thought was a splashproof case for the phone, it still has been quite moistened.

Well given that you cant stop the corroding its only a matter of time before the phone eventually fails so I would recommend the following;
1) Stop storing any data on your internal card I now bought a 32GB sd card and I will just use that so if the phone fails I simply bin it and put the card in a new device.
2) Regularly back-up your device
3) Start saving for a new device
4) Get a new motherboard for the device
5) A scum-bag thing to do is hard reset it and sell it to someone who isnt aware of its data storage properties.
Thanks dude i tought it was the driver fault. Quite sad for my dad

did you resolve this issue?

Issue with Mass Storage Mode on PC

For some reason, when I plug my phone into my PC and put the phone in Mass Storage mode, only the Internal Memory shows up, not the SD-Card. I've never had this problem before. The only thing I can think of that may possibly be causing this is the fact that my SD-Card is currently full, tho I don't see why this would cause it not too show up, but you never know. So I am hoping that someone on here has the answer as to why the External Memory Card isn't showing up and how to fix it so it does show up.
thankfully it still shows up in my phone itself and I can access all the files through my root browser, which I can use to delete, move/transfer files to and from the SD-Card and all that, but it's just a lot easier and faster to do it through the computer. So I really want it to show up like it normally does. Like I said, it's never not shown up before. I've had this phone for about a year and never had this problem with it. So any help fixing this issue would be greatly appreciated

Not exactly sure what to tell you, but do you have a micro sd adapter that you could pull your card out of your phone, insert it into you pc, transfer all files, format card, transfer them back and reinsert into your phone and check?
no, if i did I woulda just used that, but now that you mention it, thats a hella good idea, and I will remember that for the future, thanks for the info. Apparently it was just being retarded cause I just plugged it in, and bam, it worked lol it brought up both my Internal and External memory in Win7. I think its just the phone itself. It's always been a really finicky phone, and when I dropped it off this big rock, what they call a "Glacial Erratic" that is next door to my house
which, by the way, is the biggest Glacial Erratic in the country apparently, according to the newspaper and wikipedia and the US Geological Survey who came out and analyzed it. Which its kinda retarded they just figured that out last year, i moved here 10-years ago when i was 16, and even then I knew it was a glacial erratic and friends of mine who have lived here all their life knew it was a glacial rock too, tho they didn't know the term Glacial "ERRATIC" but yea, just figured I throw that interesting fact in there. Sucks now that it suddenly has become popular even tho like i said, its been there for thousands of years, and our house which is only like 20 ft from it, has been here since the late 80's, early 90's, and they just now "Discovered" it lol
But anyways, dropping it off that Glacial Erratic, definitely didn't help matters much hahaha, but even before i dropped it, its always been really touch and go with this phone. the drop, tho it did no external damage thanks to the case, seems oto have made it worse, and my batter doesn't last near as long as it should. I used to get about 6-hours on a full charge if i used it heavily/constant throughout the day, which now it gets maybe 3-hours if I'm lucky, and even with it just sitting there not being used, where it used to last well over 24-hours on light to no use, now it only last about 10-hours. I need a new battery....Hell, I just need a new phone. I really liked this phone at first, but not so much in the last few months, and especially now that i dropped it a couple weeks ago. Time to go get the Samsung G-III

Toshiba Laptop Problem

Hopefully no one gets upset I'm asking this here but I figured it would be ok since I'm in the "off topic" section and I can always find answers I need regarding my Droid so I figured you tech savy ppl could help me
Toshiba Satellite Laptop screen barely comes on?
I've been searching everywhere (online) for answers.
Long story short, my laptop screen stopped turning on. Even if solid the lights come on (AC/Pwr), I hear the internal fan, hard drive, etc. if I try and Turn the laptop on 10x the screen may only come on twice (if I hold down f1 and f2) It's windows 7. I reinstalled the OS (via partition) and still had the error. (cmos needs replacing too I hear but ppl say that won't give me errors like I get)
What do the errors in these pictures mean? Is the problem hardware or software or bios?

I think its the software. Try rebooting into a dvd or a flash drive (if you know that). If that works you are good to go
On the first look, apparently u have ram misconfigured on bios settings
The bios could have loaded one of the predefined settings and its incompatible with ur ram (it could be because something messed those settings or u have ram with different speeds/sizes
Take a note of every setting in bios and try loading the default settings to see if that error still occurs, if still exist those errors, go to the ram settings and look for one option that says something like allow compatibility
If there are no errors, put back the noted bios settings except the ones for the ram.
Or u have a busted ram module
Anyway more info about the laptop would do wonders in path to the correct solution

[Q] Samsung Captivate Galaxy S (SGH-I897) with broken LCD, access files

Just watched the "noob video" and I'll apologize in advance for my ignorance here. I'm pretty tech savvy but not an Android user so please bear with me and feel free to dumb down any (and all, perhaps) responses.
I have a friend who cracked the LCD on her SGH-I897 (the four touch buttons on the bottom seem to respond). She already replaced the phone but now wants her photos/videos off of the internal memory. She literally had never plugged the device into a computer in the two years she owned it (this should give you some idea as to why it was handed off to me...). USB debugging is apparently off as the device connects to the PC, but no drive appears that I can access. It is obviously not rooted either.
I tried some file recovery software hoping that could bypass my inability to mount the drive but to no avail. I have a Macbook running 10.5 and a PC running Win7.
I've been researching for the better part of two days and I found this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15563295, but after following the link provided it said the kernel was for the Samsung Galaxy S2. It seems there must be a simple way to resolve this. It's just hacking into a photos folder after all...
All I need to do is retrieve and transfer the files, so the simplest means of doing this is the best. The phone is pretty busted up so once the files are off it's getting recycled.
Thanks again, all.

Basically, you'd use ADB to mount the SD.
You said the screen is cracked but can you still read and/or see the image? If so, you could get in recovery and mount from there (using the volume and power buttons).
Thanks for the quick response, Wolf!
No link you posted was referencing a Nook Tablet, but I'm trying to access a Galaxy S Captivate. Would the instructions be identical..?

So when you say "SD" you're not talking about a removable SD card, that's the term used for the internal memory for Android phones?

The LCD is actually cracked (not the outer protective glass/touch screen) so the LDC is completely inoperable (blacked out, no backlight, nothing).

ADB can be used on pretty much any androids, it sends command from your pc to your phone. I linked you a easy to follow guide but there are plenty out there, just google/search ADB and you'll find everything you need to know about it.
As for the SD, our phone has a internal SD and a slot for external SD. So yeah, I meant internal SD. (This is true for almost every androids)

It's called a internal SD but I have no idea how hard (or if even possible) it would be to get it. But it's surely something to look into.

Alright, road block... ADB can't be used if USB Debugging isn't enabled.
Can anyone help me enable USB Debugging without the LCD screen being functional?
To save you from reading all the above, my friend cracked the LCD screen on her phone. USB Debugging is off, phone is not rooted, touch screen is not functional. Four buttons on the bottom of the screen do work.
All she wants is the pictures off her internal memory (not an SD card, as a card reader would have solved this by now). Any help would be appreciated.
if she had an app called 'my phone explorer client' installed before the screen broke, then you could install my phone explorer on a pc, connect via usb with phone up and fully booted, then my phone explorer creates a mouse clickable image of the phone's screen. but ugh, this only works with usb debugging - perhaps there is another app can do it.

Kinda running outta options here :/ Personally, my storage connects automaticly on my pc, don't need to manually mount it. Then again, I'm using W8 so that might be why (dunno really).
Another option could be to get another screen, connect it (but don't fully install it), get your files, return the screen. Not exatly the best option ever but it would work eh.

That would be a negative. Its a chip soldered onto the board. Its just habit to refer to it as the internal SD since that's how the android software treats it.
Also if you could get into recovery which of course would be hard to verify with a blank screen... At least with custom kernels I believe ADB is enabled so you could run commands there. But it may not be with stock kernels. Just a thought.

Newbie way in over my head. Any help would be appreciated.

I've been following the guide here on how to get Android on my HP TouchPad. A while ago I followed these guides and had no problem, but a little while ago I thought I would try and update my Android version and I did something wrong (what, I don't know).
Right now I have KitKat running on my TouchPad, but my PC cannot see my TouchPad when I plug it in via USB. My computer makes the sound when I plug it in as if it IS connected, but it doesn't see it in my list of drives. It DOES, however, see it when I boot into webOS.
I'm sure there are other problems I'll run into, but I feel like this is the first major one. Is there anything I can do to make my computer recognize my TouchPad when plugged in via USB? I'll answer followup questions to the best of my ability, but like the title says, I'm in a bit over my head here I think.

Hey, thank you very much for this. Apologies for the late reply, but something personal came up that kept me away from my computer for a few days.
I looked at the guide you linked, but I actually already have MTP checked. I hear the connected sound playing on my PC, but nothing shows up as a connected device. Could there be something wrong with the drivers on my PC's end? Oddly enough, it does show up when I have the camera option checked on the tablet.

It's something inherent in KitKat. I had the same issue, and it was never resolved, but it goes away in later Android versions. You can still download and upload using the camera option. It just ends up in Pictures, I think.

I hadn't thought about uploading to an inappropriate folder like Pictures, but as long as the files I need are on the tablet I don't see why that should end up being a problem. I can just move them internally with the Files app. Thank you for the idea!
