So...I just managed to order a new international o2x for $180 from amazon. Am I going to have issues with rooting and roms because it's international? It seems okay from what I see, but I just wanted to be sure after sorting through info. Sorry if i'm asking an idiotic question, i'm new to smartphones and I tried researching as much as I could.
I ended up settling on this over the atrix 4g due to motorola's support, even though I regret the RAM difference and dislike that o2x has a bit of a stereo crosstalk issue.

hurry up and go in to the development thread, there you will find all your answers. Make sure you know, what type O2X you have, you most probably have the P999, made for the north american market.
Good luck, the fun starts now
Remember, there are no stupid questions, just a lot of quizzical idiots!!!!!

the US version is P999
korean version is SU660
international version is P990
In the future, if you want to know if any android phone will have rooting issues or ROM install issues, don't look at whether it's international or not.
The key word is "bootloader." Specifically, its lock status (yes/no, and if yes, does the manufacturer allow it to be user-unlocked?)

Thanks all by the way for clearing my mistake, and mentioning the part about the bootloader, i'll keep it in mind.

"LG Aus irons bugs out of Optimus 2X
World's first dual-core phone on sale downunder.
LG Australia has finally broken its silence over ongoing problems with the Optimus 2X, which Guiness World Records acknowledges as the world’s first dual-core smart phone.
Users overseas and locally who had bought the product through eBay and other online sources reported a number of issues with the phone including random power-offs.
The Korean company subsequently released a patch, however, many users continued to report malfunctions.
LG Australia marketing director Brad Read confirmed that the problems related to the incompatibility of the phone's software – developed with Google’s Android 2.2 Froyo – and the handset's dual core processor.
For several weeks LG Australia’s Facebook page has been peppered with customer complaints, however, LG only acknowledged the problem on the social networking site yesterday.
One reader said he was selling his Optimus 2X for $1 on eBay as a paperweight.
Read, however, said that all of the problems had now been ironed out.
An updated software fix had been installed in phones shipped to Australia with no customers buying locally expected to have any problems.
The Optimus 2X goes on sale this week at Harvey Norman and was expected to soon become available through other outlets including mobile carriers.
Its price tag in Australia would be around $650.
Notwithstanding the software compatibility issues, the Optimus 2X was expected to generate much kudos for LG in the highly competitive mobile phone market, and woo users with its promise of dramatically faster management of mobile apps and downloading of web content."

So it seems to be a driver/kernel/software problem?
But when are we getting it??

Could anyone living in Australia confirm this?
The explanation seems kinda vague to me, not to mention the timing. They say the fix it just in time for the Australian launch? Sounds like a publicity thing to me. People who use custom roms with gingerbread still have the reboot problems, right?

come on...custom rom with gingerbread its very diferrent than stock..dont forget that is CM7 nightly version and it has very different commits and drivers and blah blah..i also suffered by reboot issues in the very first start using nightly cm gingerbread but if you will try the last build you will see that random reboots it has been fixed..at least for me!i dont get any random reboots..!with stock rom also i didnt got even once a random reboot..!
cm7 it has nothing to do with stock froyo and even if when stock gingerbread will be released!
But why should we accept a flagship phone that have known fatal problems?
u know, the price of first batch is about 30% higher than now.
And we always face the sudden dead when charging.
LG should have solved this issue before selling.

I got all the ones without oil and damaged engines and flat tires...
Or in other words an used car for the price of a new one ;-)
Is this normal phenomenal for this branch or only for this particular car.
Well after owned many, I dare to say that all engines where new and not broken...Sometimes a flat tire
I don't trust that the mechanic will fix this engine

That's really great! I hope for 4.0.
actually, LG Indonesia also confirmed ICS for O2X.
Indonesia is huge market for LG Phones, so their info is trustworthy.
but the question is, WHEN?
we just received GB in Nov.
so ICS, next year? on 12-12-2012 lol.
It would sure be a good start of a comeback if they manage to deliver ICS without too many delays.
I'd give LG an other chance, when they try to make the updates faster.
Yeah, we gonna wait more 50years with GB until we get the ICS update...
This is truly amazing news.
Hi
I recently found that one of the online shipping site(Flipkart.com Indian) has marked Optimus 2x as permanently discontinued. But with ICS release in the near future i want to know why lg has done this?
Is this is in indian only or can anyone confirm elsewhere it has been discontinued?
I sure that the discontinued is only applies for that store and has nothing to do with LG or its ICS update.

its been out of stock there for a long while.
its still available in Ireland,
and im pretty sure i can still buy it here in New Zealand.
even if it does get discontinued its got some awesome hardware.
we're lucky with all the exceptional Dev's on this site, i know my phone will only get better and be in good hands with the XDA community.
This pertains specifically to the recent LG release of ICS (with the NVIDIA accelerated hardware drivers) for the SU660 (Korean version of the Optimus 2X) and the lack of developer interest in porting it to the P990 and P999 versions of the same phone.

They'll be back when the kernel source code is released (don't worry, LG is legally obliged to release it due to the contract terms of using Android).
I doubt the devs can just pick apart the Korean .kdz file to extract binaries - they need the source code. And we know the source code WILL come now, it's just a matter of time.
Hang on man, I'm excited myself. Especially being in North America where we are unlikely to get any OTA update.
hehe, forward your message to LG man ;P

LOL, I think Stefan already announced that this would happen. Although the SU660 and the P990 have the same specs there are slight variations in the partitioning and so on that makes it impossible to just mix-and-match ROMs. Same for just about every phone with regional variations, it's to prevent people from easily debranding phones and removing carrier bloatware. It's nothing that our devs can't overcome... but they need source code first.

I think you should inform yourself a little more.before creating a thread calling for developers.
I don't know of a single dev who has a "lack of interest", most are quite excited. If it would be easily possible to port the SU660 ROM to the P99x one it would already have been done. It is NOT the "same" phone.
And keep in mind that this phone never had a lot of - how to phrase it - "real kick ass developers".
The best thing which could have happened to our phone was arcee, his skills are amazing. Without him the LG 2x custom ROM scene would be nowhere near the current state.

Many have "moved on" from the Optimus 2X/G2X.

If you have been following the threads about the leak, you would know that they can't do anything at the moment because basically they still need the kernel sources to work (which we still don't have) and in consecuence you wouldn't have posted this (right?).
I'm a developer and I don't really like this kind of stuff. It feels like pressuring them to get working on something, remember they are doing this for fun / self training and for free - so please people let them be. If something new happens they will be the first ones to inform about it.

I'll leave that to you because you know that more than that have sold their Optimus 2X and G2X phones and moved on and others such as RC have "put it on the shelf" and, depending on LG releasing ICS with accessible NVIDIA hardware drivers and whether he thinks it is worthwhile spending his time on it instead of his current and future interests, he may or may not be counted among the developers who "moved on" (hopefully not).

Yes, JB alpha for the O2X was just released but ICS and JB are already available for other, older, phones with less worthy hardware. W're fortunate that, in spite of NVIDIA and LG causing development for the O2X to be somewhat masochistic, there are still some developers working on it. If LG releases a public version of ICS with a locked bootloader for the SU660/P990/P999, there will be even fewer developers. It is interesting to note the lack of developers commenting about my post. I think they understand where I am coming from.

1. The opposite will happen when we get the official ICS release (which will most likely have the locked bootloader, yes). More devs will gain interest as there's finally something to do instead of waiting. The locked bootloader will be annoying but there will be ways around it.
2. The real devs usually don't read xda in general and not the general section in particular. No wondering why...
3. Start learning to develop your own stuff then the 2x will be exactly the way you want it to have. No offense, but this thread leads to nothing.

And yes... no word about 4X
If 4X don't get Jelly Bean, it will be my first and last LG phone
I really don't know what to do. Sell my LG? But for the money I'll get, there is no much alternative devices with similar features that I can buy now...
But stay for next 2-3 years with ICS on 4X is no option either. Hardware is ok, but maybe android 4.3 will have really cool features and we will never get it on our devices. It's really frustrating.

Well it this is the case that we will not got JB or more updates, iam gonna get bored in some point... then a new phone or superduper htc HD2 back, and this one starts acting as a bar phone
The reputation of LG was already below zero after they leaved 2X die. Normally, nobody should buy their phones after they do same thing with 4X.. They really should think long time about their crappy marketing strategy.

This has to be an over site. I just got mine so i'm okay with it for now (that will last a couple weeks, lol).
With the Optimus LTE II getting it, it would make no since that we won't.
Just unlock the bootlaoder and XDA will take care of the rest.
LG 4x?

Various sites are reporting no update for the 4x . Anyone buying LG has to be mad.will have to sell mine and and get the nexus.

Yeah, there's no mentioning of the 4X. And that's because it is a korean update plan. As far as I know there is no 4X in korea, so nothing to update. With the LTEII getting JB i'm pretty positive that the 4X will be the next one, at least in Europe.

LG sucks
LG will announce an update for our 4X in Europe because there's no 4Xs in Korea
Made possible by my sexy LG Optimus 4X HD (P880)
I can't see them announcing a 4X JB update in Europe before the new flagship Optimus G is released. They'll be eating into their own sales by promoting an older device.
Be patient, I'm sure the 4X is further down the schedule

Imo i dont mind not getting JB on my 4x. See guys, ics will still be the majority of the android system and app support for it wouldnt disappear until quite sometime later.
And even by the time ics is really becoming obsolete how old do you think your phone will be? There will be new hardware by then or anyone on the general market wouldnt be even using the phone anymore by then.
I'm speaking as a general user who treats a phone more as a personalised, friendly thing more than using it for technology development. I think LG is really doing a good job. How my phone now (ics) is fine. I dont really care about not getting JB on this device.
Looking outside of developers circle, i think majority of smartphone users are still those that has little interest in catching up with technology, and has the same purpose of phone as me, using it as a connection, entertainment, tool.
My 2 cents.
Ps i had used samsung android phone before.
Edit. Enjoy more of your time now. Sometimes certain good things are already what you have now. Just forget about not getting the update for a while and take a brand new look into the beauty.

I currently have an HTC Desire S which I have rooted and booted over and over again, from GB all the way up to Jelly-Bean and back again. I have placed an order for my 4X HD and am collecting it on Saturday. I don't really care if it gets upgrades to JB or beyond - this time I want a fast, nice phone which I can just use - this is why I have gone for this rather than other phones. I will keep my DS for playing with and to get my kicks from when I feel the need to play around. I'm quite sure that LG will provide us with upgrades for a while, but as long as I have a fairly vanilla ICS I will be a happy bunny.
it will be updated .....wait and see

We all hope so. But until now we have only this info where 4X is not mentioned.
What has LG from half year old device with locked bootloader? Can someone explain this behavior? I mean, we all know that using unlock tool will void the warranty and only experienced users will do this. Why not let them do what they want?
This is LG Korea they do not have the Optimus 4X in their country, therefore completely ignore this. xD
