My KFHD7 isn't rooted, but I've sideloaded a few games onto the device that are appearing under the "Apps" category. Is there a way to make the game apps show up under the "Games" category?
In addition, some (if not all) apps that I sideload have low quality icons. Any way to increase the quality so that they're not so fuzzy on the carousel?
[Edit] I have found a thread that answers this question. It's available here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1495854
Many thanks in advanced!

I would also love to know how to make this happen. I'm clueless as to how they are flagging the apps as games but the icons shouldn't be that hard... right?
I stumbled upon a guide that allows modification of the APK icons. I've edited the OP to include the link to those who find it useful.
Want to know make this possible too.
Did anyone work out how to do this?

If you want to change Android app icons, check out this APK editor: APK Icon Editor
It also supports Kindle Fire devices.

Is it possilbe to clean up the start menu of the Sense UI? Like make folders for system tools, multimedia, games and so on. instead of having this endless list of apps. i always miss the app i am looking for, even that the are sorted a-z.
i am used to it from my old hd2 with win mob. you just make folders and move it where you want. but i dont know how about android handles this thing.
maybe somebody can help me.
Thanks
sorry i was doing some miss-spelling on the title, if some mod or admin would be so friendly and correct that please

As of yet I dont think there is a way and your best bet is to just create folders on your desktop and organise it that way. To be honest I would prefer the windows menu because I love organisation....unfortunately...the rest of windows mobile sucked...
Hope that helps.
i agree, that was the only positive thing on windows mobile. i had everything organized and could find everything in a few clicks. now i have to scroll up and down the list especially some programms have wired names, so i dont always remember them...
do you know a good folder programm?
i am trying right now "folder organizer lite" is there anything better, except the paid version of it?
I was a bit put out when I saw that the items are in one big list. Mind you, I've just come from having years of Nokia phones and if you don't use something very often it's a pain to remember which menu tree it's in so there are pros and cons.
What I've done is clear out the HTC stuff from each screen and arrange different *groups* of widgets on each. So 'media' (camera, music, etc) on one for example. System-type stuff on another (settings, brightness, etc etc).
Works for me but each to his own.
Dave
Use Folder Organizer it does a good Job for me you can find a free version on Market.
i am using folder organizer already and bought the full version. but it would be nice if i could get rid of this messed up menu.
i have just one question to folder organizer. how can i get or make my own folder icons. do they have to be in .ico format and where do i have to put them?
Why cant we create folders and push them to a home screen and use it, this can be better if i am not wrong! I am still new to android but i found this useful and easy to access my apps!
You can try "smart shortcuts" its a free app from market
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
You can create folders on your home screen and put shortcuts to any apps within them. Just drag and drop. You can also rename folders by long-presing on the title bar of an open folder.
Alternatively, if you don't mind using a different launcher to HTC Sense you can get ADW.Launcher free from Market. This allows you to create 'custom catalogues' in the app draw. You can set it to have pagination buttons within the app draw to easily switch between the catalogues. You can, if you like, have one for games, one for navigation etc. It's not ideal but it works and ADW.Launcher is a great (and very customisable) launcher too.
Hope this helps.

Has anyone made a set of icons based for this app. Such as media, tools, utilies, games, ect..
Thanks
No, but I have just done Google searches looking for some...All you need are general categories.
I wish more people would make icons for categories, I love just having thie folders on my homescreen.

I've made MANY...as I do the same...organizing my apps in category folders. I currently use...
Core or Home (the "main" apps that can't go on the dock...calendar, email, camera..)
Utilities (file explorer, back ups, battery monitor, etc)
Customize (custom clock widgets, beautiful weather...stuff that has an app for settings)
Tools (stuff that makes the phone and you productive. Dropbox, springpad, maps, QR scanners..)
Services (bank apps, travel apps, market, shopper)
News and Info (RSS reader, weather, wolfram..)
Leisure or Fun (yelp, urban spoon, netflix, imdb, youtube)
Connect (linked in, facebook, talk, various chat sites, ebuddy)
Games...
I almost always use an existing icon set that I downloaded, though it has to be a large one. I do also make my own icons.
Using any graphics program (Gimp, Photoshop, I use Illustrator), you can give them a background, title, etc. My current trend is to use Desktop Visualizer and make the folder icons 2x1, so they show up as special.
Posted some examples...the one labeled "various" has most of what you might be looking for. If you can't see it well, let me know. As you can see...I've been busy LOL
Hope that helps and gives you some ideas. If there is anything I can do to help, let me know.
Can you make an icon pack
Allow me to bump this thread...
I have applied an icon pack but they're not changing in Folder Organizer. I have tried many things, but no luck... Any suggestions?
Thank you

I've noticed that when I try to install quite a few apps on my Nook Color running Honeycomb, they don't show up. One good example of this is Pocket Legends. Is there something I need to change on my NC to make these apps show up? Thanks!
Pocket Legends now installs directly to the SD-Card. Try moving the app to internal and seeing what happens from there. Or taking out the SDcard before installing it.
Well, when I go to the market and do a search, Pocket Legends doesn't even show up in the search..so I don't even have the opportunity to install it.
On a side note, I notice that for some reason the UI gets clipped when I hold the NC upright. The 'desktop' icons on the far left get cut in half. I don't know if I need to adjust some DPI setting or something.
The build.prop needs to be edited so the app will show up. Even if it does that does not mean it will install correctly. As for what the build.prop needs to be edited to I can't say. I don't run HC myself but I know when leaked Android fiel come out of the Moto devices that are not public yet we have to edit the build.prop so all apps will display. There is a line in the build.prop that tells the Market what device you are using and what will work on the device to install. That is why you currently are not able to see the app even when you run a search for it. I don't have it handy but take a look over at Nookdevs.com I'm almost positive I saw info on wha tto change the build.prop to so most apps will show up.
I've followed the instructions at http://nookdevs.com/Honeycomb_Google_Apps_and_Market to change the build.prop file. I've tried both the Xoom and Nexus S entries without success.
I've got all the apps in the market showing up now that didn't before.
The following vid was posted in the Nook General forum that explains how to do this

I have to admit, I was really skeptical of this working... but it did! Running HC (on SD) on my wife's nook color, and couldn't find numerous apps in the Market. Did what the video said, and voila! The missing apps are there. Awesome! Thank you for posting that!

That video really follows what is posted in the "Getting Protected Apps To Show in Market" section of -> http://nookdevs.com/Honeycomb_Google_Apps_and_Market
Settings -> Manage Applications -> All -> Market
Clear Cache then Force Stop -- DO NOT clear data
Settings -> Manage Applications -> All -> Google Services Framework
Clear data then Force Stop
Then reboot the NC

Except the video doesn't have you edit the Build.Prop file, tells you to start market first, go to "RUNNING" rather than "ALL" for applications, and it tells you to try market and let it error before reboot.
I've done it the "Video's way" without seeing any additional apps. I've done it nookdevs.com way (including editing build.prop), and many more apps have shown up including those I was looking for.
However, even though I see more apps, I'm not sure I see "ALL" apps in market that I do on my android phones (Incredible, Droid X, Moto Droid).
Guys
Browsing market and hunting apps is a hobby of mine.
I want to share some of them i find very useful.
You might know them or not..
Dice player-Paid
Very smooth and plays everything. Xvid, Divx, Mkv, wmv, everything. With ES File Explorer Lan mode it plays network video files without downloading.
Better Cut-Free at market
Creates shortcuts at homescreen with custom names but most importantly custom icons from various file types WITHOUT shrinking them smaller then original icon size.
Multiling Keyboard-Free at market
Amazing keyboard with almost every language support and handwriting. It even supports split keyboard mode and lots of themes. Typo check etc, etc.
Set Dns-Free at market
I mentioned about this before. A tiny app for setting your DNS proxy. Super easy to use.
LCD Density-Free at market
Changes the resolution of your xoom (and other android devices).
I dont know what is my resolution now. Defoult is 160, mine is 140. I tried as low as 130 and it still works but i liked 140 better. Works without any performance or any other problems so far. Lots of extra screen estate. ( if you created shortcuts with Better Cut before bumping up the res, those shortcuts stays at the same size but names get cropped at bottom. Renewing the shortcuts solves the problem)
App Backup & Restore-Free at market
I have problems with Titanium. When i backup with titanium, after wipes Titanium cant restore my apps. Data yes.. Apps no. I dont know why.
So i find this one. It backups all apps and restores them without a problem.
Then i use Titanium for restoring the app data and xoom goes just like before the wipe.
Thats about it for now.
I avoided to mention about the "famous" ones and tried to underline the ones i didnt heard about anywhere.
I hope it helps someone
Thanks! Installed multiling keyboard and seems pretty nice! Like being able to change keyboard size, theme, etc. Handwriting recognition looks promising. Will need to check it out more!

Because the app was pulled, if it's not hosted on the developer's site or an officially endorsed mirror, it constitutes warez.

Upss I didn't knew that.
I can't help you then. You need to Google it.
I'd like to release an icon pack that I've created to the Android Market. I currently have one app on the market, but am unsure of how to upload the icon pack. Basically It is a .zip file full of the icons. I don't want to make a launcher specific pack, just have the icons available for download.
How do I go about doing this?

Easier release - More people to see it - plenty more reasons.
Anyways, I'm not completely sure but I think you'd have to compile the icons into an apk

Even I'm looking for an answer to this. But I know how to create apk from raw icons, so never really searched for it.
Anyway, you can check with the developer of "Lucid Rounds" icons pack. He has his icons pack in the market, which essentially is a zip, wrapped in a apk. i.e. when you install his app, it gives you a button to press to download the icons zip.
Thanks, I sent him an email. Surprised no one knows how to do this.

How to do what though? The market only stores apps, so it would have to be an apk and if you don't want it be launcher specific, what exactly would that apk do?
You could easily do this with a variety of methods (off the top of my head):
Same as Lucid Rounds author (I have that and hate this method)
Just store your icons as raw assets and tell users where they are
Store icons as raw assets and let users save them to SD in your app
Store icons remotely and let users save them to SD in your app
Include the icons as extra data for your app and save that to SD automatically (e.g. like a game with extra data)
The last method is best IMHO, especially with the new partial updates the Play Store supports, that way you'd never need to update the app, just the icons.

Thanks, the lucid rounds author got back with me, and I just followed his directions. Its basically a zip file to download, and I got it in the market. Not ideal, but it works.
