I got my phone bricked! Recovery does not work. All i can see is GT-7000 with triangle samsung logo. Can't even see samsung glowing logo. But download mode is working. What should i do now to not get my phone bricked totally?
Bricked when i flashed new rom. I did full wipe/cache/dalvik cache. Problem was not there. Something with recovery itself. When i flashed previous rom recovery changed from PhilZ-cwm6 to CMW 5.5 and i tried flashing rom with it. Why recovery changed with new rom install?!??
Odin. Back to GB and start again. If you get stuck at factory fs you may want to try the revive method posted in general.

Ok first, you need recovery back. I assume you know how to use PC Odin? You do? good:good:
You need to download a stock ICS kernel. Get one (any will do) in Tar format from Dr. Ketan here.
Now download one of Philz Temp recovery's from here (again any will do.)
You need to get Philz temp recovery onto external SD card and put it back into your Note. (Old phone?, Camera?, Card reader?....)
Done that? Excellent!
OK, now flash stock ICS Tar file in PC odin. (put it in PDA box).
Reboot into recovery, "apply update from external storage" and select the temp Philz recovery.
The recovery will now miraculously change to Philz 6.0.1.4
Now select "restore" and choose the file that you backed up on Philz before.
When the operation completes, reboot phone. You will be back on ROM from when you did original Philz backup.:good:

Ok. Flashed kernel. Pass! I got into recovery and there is lot of error. They says
E:failed to mount /cache (invalid argument)
E:can't mount /cache/recovery/log
....
...
about 12 of these
Is it safe to flash recovery or i should do something more?
And other thing is https://www.dropbox.com/s/qkx2z5auzxg8k0j/20121103_113422.jpg
I shutters. Is this ok? I now just flashed N7000XXLPYkernel. Recovery works.
Try flashing the temp recovery and see what happens (its safe)
You may have corrupted partitions, We can address that if temp recovery boots.

Theoretically factory reset wont brick, even on stock recovery. But don't do that just yet, time for a different approach, just wait, back soon...

OK now go here and download Samsung_Wipe_Data_System_Cache_2.0-signed.zip get it onto external SD card and flash from stock recovery. If it works, try flashing temp recovery again.

Yes, quite right, but I was trying to see where the problem is. And it looks like Data partition is bricked. I feel doing GB through Odin will just get stuck (classic superbrick symptom).
Lets see how he goes....
just flash any 2.3.5 or 2.3.6
from the thread you following. and let us know if it passes in odin

Hi guys,
I am getting an error as you were getting when trying to install a custom ROM on my Samsung Galaxy S.
I am currently running on stock Gingerbread 2.3.3.
Baseband version : I9000DDJV5
Kernel Version: [email protected] #2
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.DDJV9
I rooted my phone using SuperOneClick and installed ROM Manager on it. Then, I flashed ClockworkMod recovery using it. Now, I am trying to flash Cyanogenmod 7.2 on my device and have downloaded it and kept it in the root directory of the SDcard. Now, whether I go to recovery mode manually or using ROM Manager, I am getting the error as below:
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:failed to seek in /cache/update.zip (Invalid Argument)
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
Also, I get only four options in the recovery mode, viz, reboot, apply update from SDcard, wipe data, wipe cache partition.
I get the same error when I try to Backup my current ROM using ROM Manager.
I searched through threads and found that some people have had similar errors but there is no solution I could find which worked for me.
I have tried clearing my download cache. Also, the download is not corrupt as I am getting the same error when trying to create a back up..
Is there any way I can correct this? Or is there any other work around for flashing like using Odin? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Yes, I can get into download mode..but how to proceed after that?
I am currently running on my stock rom JV9.. so, you mean to say that I should first upgrade to JVU using download mode and then proceed to upgrading it further?
Can you please also tell how to upgrade to JVU using download mode?
Thanks
SIMPLE WAY TO ROOT AND FLASH LATEST ICS
1. Flash by Odin (download Odin) Semaphore 1.2.0 kernel (as PDA, UNtick repartition, UNtick reboot).
2. Take out battery.
3. Go into recovery (vol up + home + power, release power after few secs)
4. In recovery mount internal SD (sdcard) and plug phone to PC. Delete all files from internal SD (if you don't have any important files). Copy latest CM9 and gapps to internal SD. Unmount internal SD.
5. In "mounts" menu use every (excluding internal and external SD card!!!) "format" option.
6. Go to flash ZIP menu and choose CM9 ZIP, then gapps.
7. Turn off recovery (phone).
8. Turn on phone and wait to boot.
Hope I helped.
Re:
Hi,
Problem here is that you didn't flash ClockworkMod recovery. If you only have four options it means you just have Recovery 3e - which is stock on most devices sold with GingerBread. I assume you are new to this so ClockworkMod recovery might be a little tricky to use.
I suggest you go to http://www.darkyrom.com/index.php?threads/darkyrom-v11-0-black-edition-android-4-0-4-ics.7941/ and follow the guide there.
I'm not saying that Darky has the best ROM there is but it does have a nice complete guide for flashing from stock.
Good luck

Hey.. I had flashed ClockworkMod Recovery using ROM Manager..It is also showing that my current recovery is : ClockworkMode 2.5.1.2
But you are right that when I boot into recovery mode, it shows Android System Recovery <3e> written at the top and gives only four options..
I went to the DarkyRom guide you mentioned..Here is the written guide
1-If you're coming from a Froyo (Android 2.2) or Gingerbread (2.3) ROM, follow these steps;
Have your phone rooted with CWM
Make a NANDROID backup & Titanium backup & backup anything you need or find important on a PC
Now, I don't understant what does the first step means exactly? How to go about rooting with CWM and make a NANDROID backup without ROM Manager?
Please help..Thanks
For an update..I found a guide to flash leaked version of 2.3.6 XWJW1 using Odin.. and I have been able to apply that successfully on my phone..I have rooted my phone again using Odin this time.. But now too, if I am trying to backup using ROM Manager, it is giving me the same error.. Is there a way or a guide that tells how to upgrade to cyanogenmod 9 or 7.2 using Odin..instead of doing it through the recovery mode..?
No. CM7 or CM9 you can only flash from custom recovery (CWM).
And one important thing: do NOT use ROM Manager, don't ask why
Just use my tutorial. But be aware that you have to delete anything from phone.

I have rolled back to 2.3.6 now but still it is not in service and not showing any baseband either.. Please advice what should I do!! Thanks for the help
You probably have damaged IMEI. If your IMEI in phone status starts with 000... you have damaged IMEI. Now you have to flash stock ROM by Odin with repartition (or 1st with Clear EFS option, 2nd without this option), backup EFS (Google!), use my guide again, and after that restore EFS.
After restarting phone, you'll get right IMEI and you should have network signal.
Hope I helped.
BTW, there's no explanation for damaging IMEI.
Guys I really need your help.
After "succesful" flashing the official German ICS 4.04 ROM with PC odin I can't start up my Note again. It hangs at the bootscreen.
I can still get into downloadmode, can flash all the ROMS with PC Odin succesfull but after booting it gets stuck at the bootscreen.
I can also still go to recovery, wipe data and cache but after rebooting it always stuck on the bootscreen.
If I go to recovery I see the errormessage:
E: failed to mount data <invalid argument>
E: copy_log_files_to_data : : can't mount /data
In recovery i can still root my phone and flash Abyss kernel. Also with the Abyss kernel i can flash al ROMS succesfully but they all stuck at the bootscreen when i reboot.
Does somebody know how to fix this problem?

You are not supposed to do wipes running stock ICS kernels. GB kernels such as abyss are the only safe ones (to avoid the Emmc hardbrick bug)....If I were u I would try to flash a stock firmware with odin.
If you get stuck and nand write or factorys.img then u are bricked....:crying:

Heyyyy Rishal try the cwm-recovery-ace.tar.md5 file from this thread. Flash from odin
Tried.. But still no result.. Same problem..
Sent from my GT-S5830 using xda app-developers app
Flashing through odin deletes every single file on your phone. So there is no chance that CWM 6 causes this. Also i don't think the problem is widespread!
If you can get me a logcat and dmesg i might be able to help..

Sorry if my post ever offended you. It's just because the whole issue started after flashing cwm6. Im glad you are happy to help. During which process do i need to get a logcat? While booting into recovery?(haven't tried getting a logcat of a boot process before)
Yes. Flash the recovery. Boot to recovery and grab a logcat as well as a dmesg.
Pastebin both. And don't worry. I don't get offended easily!

Hey Rishal flash stock recovery from this thread
And bring the zip for cwm 6 tomorrow.PLS
i flashed CWM 5 using odin, but that also gave the same problem.
Is there any stock recovery that i can flash using "odin"?
Aditya: u gave d link of stock recovery which has to be flashed using other recovery modes, which is not possible in my case as the other recovery modes r not working.
Try deleting all except recovery.img from stock rom.tar file

Its not possible to delete files directly inside a .tar file.
i have to extract the recovery.img and then change it to .tar file.
i flashed that file using odin but it stopped suddenly giving me a yellow triangle error because of which i had to reflash again.
now i have the stock recovery working again.
I am facing a similar issue. Please do post your solution here if anything at all works
That wasn't the right way to do it. Download total commander and then remove other files from stock rom.tar file WITHOUT EXTRACTING. Did u renamed the recovery.img to recovery.tar and then flashed as one file in Odin???
Another way is to push recovery.img through adb.

Could you please elaborate the problem you face and how it all started in the first place?
Since we were facing constant reboot into recovery problem, we flashed stock Rom entirely through Odin to get back stock recovery. However flashing any version of cwm would make the problem resurface. The only cwm recovery that works is cwm6 by shaan. Confused why??

Since the CWM 6 by shaan is working, i tried to install a zip through it. the zip was successfully.
but on switching on the phone, it gets stuck on cynogenmod screen(not the samsung screen)
The reason is that i cannot wipe data/cache.
on doing a factory reset, the log is something like:
Error mounting /data!
Skipping format...
Error mounting /cache!
Skipping format...
E:format_volume: make_extf4fs fa(the next thing is out of the screen) ...block/mmcblk0p2
formatting /sdcard/ .android_secure (something-something)
Data wipe complete
So this means that there is some problem with the cache, data mounting..
I also tried to mount cache and data using mounts and storage but it shows cannot mount cache and data respectively.
P.S.: Every time i get into recovery or flash something an error like this comes at the bottom:
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/log...(can't see the next part)
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log...(can't see the next part)
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/las...(can't see the next part)
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/las...(can't see the next part)
So there is some recovery file in the /cache folder which is causing some problem
(recovery working is a progress. thanks adityabhagat95.)

My phone was running 2.2.1 Froyo. I tried to upgrade it to 2.3.6 using process mentioned here. http://androidadvices.com/update-galaxy-ace-s5830-official-gingerbread-236-xwktm-firmware/
The Odin completed successfully and restarted the phone. But the phone was running spanish language. I was getting an alert after every 3-4 seconds. But i could not read it as it was spanish. I restarted the phone and it went in boot loop. The phone keeps rebooting every 2 seconds.
I can't get into recovery mode but I can get to download mode.
I have tried flashing many ROMs from sammobile.com but none of them is working.

Is reboot into recovery working? If yes (don't tell me the problem is solved), in recovery format cache and data thru mount and storage option. (Maybe the data and cache partition are still using rfs. ) tell me if it works!

Flashing a STOCK Rom from Odin must not cause a bootloop. Reflash the stock Rom from recovery (again )and then reboot into STOCK recovery to wipe data ( factory reset or whatever its addressed as).
Yes I can reboot into recovery, but I dont think the problem is solved or else the other recoveries would also work (its just a progress)
I tried to format data, cache, system but all of them failed as it was unable to "mount" the respective folders.
I did not try d format sd-ext, as I thought it was not required...
There is surely some problem with d cache, data or system files...

Hey,
I am trying to fix a friends optimus black. He has CWM recovery installed but when I flash ROMs then reboot system, it just boots straight back to the recovery. Is there anything I am doing wrong? I have tried 3 different ROMs from the dev section, ICS, GB and JB. I make sure to do a full wipe between flashing.
Many thanks, as I don't have much experience with this phone. (Although I have many years experience with flashing android roms)

Reflash with Smart Flash Tool. A few kernels automatically go to recovery if they fail to load. I can't think of anything else.
Try changing your CWM Recovery by flashing another version. Use my CWM Recovery flasher (in my signature).
thanks, i tried changing CWM using your flasher, but it still didnt work.
I cant use the smartflasher as all the links are broken...

What do you need? Some ROMs to flash? Find links to kdz files in post 3. Extract and root it yourself (also see post 3 on my how to).
might be redundant saying this but in cwm itself have you flashed the 6.0.1.4 update within itself ald?

I was trying to follow the unbricking guide in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1448803
but the links for the following are broken:
stock ROM V10A EEU XXX with .bin & .fls. [CRC MD5: d880b8834400575b5827bafbf29a745e] - DepositFiles, FileServe, WUpload.
Other bin/fls ROMs are HERE. (All these links are working again!)
You need to install LG Mobile drivers. They are located HERE. [CRC MD5: e4614071e72c0292d3a8238908b5c7ba]

Also, I am on CWM 6.0.1.4 but now I get an error when I try to choose a zip from the SD card "E: Can't mount /sdcard"
Cheers for the help.
EDIT: managed to find the files... will update soon.
EDIT 2: Flashed the official firmware with smart flasher, now im in a bootloop with the "firmware update" screen, first I had a BSOD.
Im about to flash the V20a files using smart flasher. fingers crossed.
EDIT 3: Flashing worked via smart flashing tool... BUT I'M STILL STUCK IN CWM RECOVERY!
any ideas?
Thanks

Wipe data, cache, then go to advanced, wipe dalwik, go back, go to mounts&Storage, mount as mass storage device, put any ROM you want on your sd card, go back, install zip from sd card, choose zip and install the ROM you downloaded

I have just done exactly these steps. I have tried flashing both the zeus rom and AOKP jelly bean build 4. Each time the ROM flashes successfully, however when I select "reboot system now," it just boots straight back to recovery again...
The only thing I could think of trying would be to restore a nandroid with cwm. I dont have one though, can anyone link me to a working nandroid, or upload one?
thanks
A crazy idea......

1.Did you do a factory reset or wipe on an unsafe kernel?
2.What error do you get in PC odin and at whst point?
3. Can you get into recovery?
4. If so can you flash Cm10.1? (Do wipes first from safe kernel)
5. If so, can you flash lr1 tar file successfully using mobile Odin pro?

@mrjapan21 --> please slowly and carefully read below (i copied and pasted from other thread my most recent post) and post back...
1. yes philz doesn't let you do a factory reset from settings to stop you from bricking your phone. I mean did you do a factory reset from STOCK ICS before this problem happened on the stock kernel...
2. IT IS IMPORTANT that you tell us WHAT THE ERROR in Odin 3 is...
3. You can get CM10.1 from dev section of xda. you need gapps too. This will all be linked in the original post of that thread. download it and put it on your phone's SD card - you can hook up the phone to computer and boot into philz and then use your phone as a storage device to copy it over. To install it, in philz, first wipe /data /system /cache /preload and dalvik-cache from mounts and storage. Then, flash CM10.1 zip. After that finishes, flash GAPPS.
3a. You can THEN use Mobile Odin to flash the .tar file from CM10.1 of LRI
3b. ALTERNATIVELY you can, AFTER ALL WIPES, try PC Odin 3 again to try to flash LRI
3c. ANOTHER ALTERNATIVE is that instead of flashing CM10.1 as i suggested above, you can try a modified samsung touchwizz rom from the development section of xda.
---------- Post added at 09:14 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:07 AM ----------
I FORGOT - If you choose you JUST want to do warranty, and we can't get it working, you SHOULD be able to flash CM10.1 even if you damaged your phone, since you can get in recovery and its a light rom... then get far enough through the boot to run Triangle Away (search XDA) so that yellow triangle is gone... We can discuss this when the time comes if you want.

1. No, I didnt do it.
2. As a matter of that theres no error on ODIN. It says PASS!
3.ok to much info here tell me one to try it: cm10.1 of LRI or Samsung Touchwizz Rom.

my n7000 got a problem. it keeps shutting down.
So:
1. i installed from sdcard via philz cwm6 CM9.0 (as i read on xda)
2. after that installed from sdcard CM10.1 via philz
3. flashed gapps
4. reboot
5. nothing. it keeps shutting down
what should i do next?
OK since your under warranty your best bet is to run triangle away from xda to remove your yellow triangle if you have it...
The use Mobile Odin and flash a stock image... DO NOT ROOT....and then send it in for warranty repair
Things are bad if if it is auto shutdown

I dont understand. The Mobile Odin is apk right? How can i open it in philz cwm?
Search for triangle away on xda and if you consider to donate please buy it from play store and install it you will find the option to reset counter.. Your phone will reboot in kind of download mode.. Press upkey to continue resetting would be the option.. Just follow the prompts

Are ALL stock JB kernels safe? Also, should the phone get stuck in a boot loop while updating from OTA or flashing with Odin (coming from ICS) would it be safe to factory reset? Thanks
There is no use trying to risk formatting in stock recovery.. If you have issues with bootloops upgrading from OTA or odin.. Install philz kernel.. It is safe from brickbug.. Do the wipes that is format /system /data/preload /cache /dalvik cache and use odin to flash stock rom again.. Do remember to flash philz kernel after that..
