I was running Cyanogenmod 7.1 stable and all of a sudden in the notification bar it says that my SD card is damaged. I put the stock SD card (Sandisk) in an old nokia and was able to format it on windows 7.
However this has not solved the problem and I can't seem to access any SD card on my phone. Tried a Samsung 8GB and a 1GB Nokia one.
If you try to format it says that SD is currently being checked. I would try a different ROM however 4ext can't access any backups/zip files.
confused now
Edit: Should I try to S-ON, however without a SD card it may be difficult
Perhaps try a different rom just to make sure its not a software issue!! If not then there's a fault at hardware level!!

Yeah I have been playing around with it for the last 2 hours and have managed to get the Samsung one to be recognized so maybe it is a broken SanDisk card .
I put the bootloader back onto S-on and the problem is still there even though its not a custom rom. I think i mght try to get it repaired since everything i have tried has failed
Yes get it repaired by HTC since you unrooted anyways

Just to update If anyone looks back at this thread at a later date. I sent my phone to htc repair centre and they gave it back to me 11 days later with a replaced sd card reader. All seems to be working well so its all good.
Must have been a hardware fault.

Today morning I had installed the custom Insanely Cool Sense Rom By Three Muskeeters and the phone was working really fantastic. Lot of improvements like more batter life, good Wi-Fi signals and also the Network radio and the fabulous performance. But later, I have found that my SD card only shows the size of 234KB. I was wondering and I had restarted my Device into Recovery and formatted the SD card which results the SD card cannot be mounted. I tried several times, but no possibilities. Later I restarted my device which doesnt boot into the Android OS. Now, I dont know how to reinstall my Backup ROM which I have with me over the ClockWork Mod Recovery. Because, I dont have the access to my SD Card to copy the Backed up ROM. Now what can I do?
Shall I have to give my mobile to the HTC Service center for repair? or if any other way to remount my SD card. I have tried to format and mount the SD card through CWM Recovery. But it fails.
Can Someone help me how to make my device works again? I will be thankful to you if you help me in this regard.
If I give my device to the HTC Service center, Sure they will charge me again 300 US Dollar to replace the main board. I am residing in United Arab Emirates. Here people dont even look at the phone to figure out the real issue. They use to say that you have to replace your main board in order to make your phone work. I have already paid 300 US Dollar before when I was not familiar with the CWM.
That time when I have given my phone to HTC Service center, My CWM Recovery and SD card is working fine. But I dont know how to install the Custom Rom Via SD card over CWM. Because of the device unlocked, they charged me 300 US Dollar to repair my phone. They told that I had damaged the main board of my device. I was really wondering that time.
Now, I really need your help guys. Kindly give me the proper appropriate solution to get back my device working. Thank you.

Ummar Hathaf

I had similar problem and what i did was relocked my phone and run ruu for ics 4.0.3 for my region. It worked fine. You will then have to unlock and root again. I have decided to stick with stock ics 4.0.3 update for now.
Try ICS Rom by FShami - Really well optimized for Sensation XL
Thanks for the Superb and Fantastic Well Optimized Rom by Fshami.
Ok I hope I am in the right section. I have literally tried everything on this forum to return my wife's vivid to stock. The ruu doesn't work it says it's the wrong one, except it's not !!! her phone says vivid in the settings menu but is being reported as holiday in hboot unlocked s-on. I am on windows 8 and none of the fastboot or adb drivers will recognize the device, I even disable driver signing and fastboot will still not recognize it.
The phone has been acting wonky and I want to warranty it. I don't have access to recovery even though I've flashed them multiple times with cwm and goomanager. All I can do is boot into bootloader or boot into android, recovery hangs on htc white screen. phone will not charge when it's off?!?!?! WTF I'm stuck.
all the recovery PH39IMG.zip i can find point to the same file that was on this forum and has been deleted, so i can't try that.
please read my details before you snark me to death.
Thanks

i'm kind of a newb so i probably shouldnt be giving advice but how else am i supposed to get 10 posts :B firstly the issue i see is that you are using Windows 8 which to my knowledge isnt supported by HTC.. so there are no drivers for it.. if that has changed and for some reason you are just having issues with the newly released drivers then ignore me haha.. when i was having issues rebooting into recovery i just reflashed the ones that come with the AIO tool.. because i know for sure those work.. i've used both of them and the only recovery that didnt work was the ONE that i tried that didnt come with the AIO..

Yeah I tried that and hboot says it's an older version and then makes me reboot. does anybody have a ph39img.zip of the stock ICS recovery for at&t ????
I was able to install VMware on ubuntu and install windows xp inside of it. I got one of the all in one tools to recognize the phone and reboot it into fastboot however now when I try to flash a recover it hangs at writing recovery. Does anybody know how to either fix this or brick the phone worse so I can warranty it?
ubuntu usb?
Maybe try making a bootable ubuntu usb stick and install the android sdk on it, then acsess the phone from there?
I tried fastboot and adb in Linux and the recovery won't write, it copies over but it won't write.
Is there a way to modify the ics ph39img.zip to trick hboot into thinking is a newer version so it won't halt the update?

I apologize in advance if this has been discussed in the past, but my searching here hasn't helped so I gotta ask for help.
Having a problem with me wife's HTC Vivid. It's bone stock. Nothing has been messed with other than whatever updates may have been installed automatically over the air. She wouldn't let me touch it to root it, mod it, nothing.....
Anyway. Problem happened Saturday night. Phone shut down due to dead battery. Put it on charger overnight. Tried to boot it up Sunday morning and it stops at the white HTC screen. Period. Just sits there. Forever.
I did some reading, learned how to hold power and vol down buttons to get to HBOOT. Tried navigating to recovery. It goes to white HTC screen, then to a black screen with a green circle arrow icon, then to a red triangle with an exclamation point.
I downloaded drivers and the HTC RUU and was going to try fastboot usb, but when it said all data will be lost I stopped.
My wife has tons of pics and stuff on her phone (that she has failed to back up ) and really doesn't want to loose them.
Before I wipe the phone and try to reinstall the stock rom do any of you have any suggestions on a way to get it back up and running and recover her pics and stuff?
Or are we screwed? :crying:

You get the red triangle/exclamation point because you dont have a custom recovery installed if Im correct. Using the all in one here is the most user friendly way of installing -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1498003
Install twrp and you should be able to recover your pics/vids by selecting "mount/mount sdcard" in the twrp ui with your phone plugged in to your pc. Then opening the storage located under computer. Navigating to the appropriate folder & cut/pastting to a folder on your pc.
I dont know how technology savvy you are but it sounds like flashing the stock kernel will repair your phone hanging on the htc logo. This is the stock ICS kernel - http://d-h.st/rHX
You can flash it through the all in one. Or follow up here -

Thanks for the help. I was able to get the bootloder unlocked with the all-in-one but when I tried to install the kernel it kept failing. I tried several different things over and over again but no luck.
I finally got frustrated and tried the HTC RUU from their website to see what would happen. I had to relock the bootloader before it would work though. It finally ran successfully and the phone is back up and running now.
Only bad news is that I wasn't able to recover any of her files.
Now she understands the importance of backing up files and getting stuff OFF the phone to another form of long term storage. :good:
Thanks again for the help.

You probably could have recovered your media. Just by mounting the internal memory like I said in my original post. You really should invest in an SD card that way no matter what happens your stuff is accessible. You can use up to 32GB. People also say 64GB SDXC cards work too. But glad its up and running again.

I got into CWM recovery and tried mounting the sdcard but kept getting "error mounting sdcard"
No mater what I did I could not get it to mount and become visible on my pc. I could see the disk drive(s) for the phone, but they were shaded and when I'd try to access them it would say insert disk into drive. When using the all-in-one it would try to push the kernel to the phone, but it got errors too. I tried putting the kernel on a micro sdcard and installing it from cwm with no luck. Couldn't get that to show/mount/work either.
I've done modding to my Samsung phones and build my own pc's so I'm not too technologically challenged.... but, Something was just wrong with this phone and it didn't want to cooperate.
And/or I didn't have the time and patience to keep jacking with it.

Thanks in advance for helping, i've spent hours searching and did not find anything.
Ill try listing exactly what happened to avoid many questions.
I had my HTC one with an unlocked bootloader and s-off (using revone) with the latest 2.24 firmware. Due to a hardware issue i had to put the phone back to stock and return it.
I used an RUU (RUU_M7_UL_JB_50_HTC_Europe_1.28.401.7_Radio_4A.13.3231.27_10.31.1131.05_release_310878_signed.exe) for this. I used revone to make it S-on again. But i couldn't manage to get it locked again to i returned it unlocked.
After the hardware issue was repaired, i tried to update the phone to latest firmware via adb, it said successful and my bootloader showed it as updated, but when i switched on the phone a black screen with HTC logo in the center and 4 triangles in the corners of the screen showed up.
It wouldn't switch on. After countless tries it finally switched on and in my bootloader it showed the latest firmware and hboot but in my "about" it showed the old firmware. My wifi wouldn't turn on, and my speakers had a cracking sound when used, the phone was hanging alot and i couldnt use it to transfer anything onto the phone. I even tried saving a file via dropbox and it wouldn't save.(i cant transfer a ROM to SD card)
The phone can still be used via adb though.
Is there anything i can do?
SOLVED
I flashed TWRP using all in one toolkit, and ADB sideloaded android rev HD, flashed it and walla everything was good as new
Install a newer ROM.

i just got an email from technocare (the local HTC dealer). They said the mainboard is damaged and need 900dhs (about $225) to repair it.
i immideately rejected. do you guys think it could be a hardware problem? seeing that it happened after a bad RUU flash im guessing it should be software. thanks for the thread will give it a read once i get the phone tomorrow!
You could get one of those USB OTG devices that lets you plug a flash drive into the phone and access it.
I'm thinking about doing the same just to have it on hand because the lack of removable SD card scares me.
I've been in that spot before where the only way I could get my phone to function was by using my PC to put some files on the SD card to use from recovery. Your recovery might also support sideloading which I've never done but I guess it lets you push a ROM straight from the PC into the recovery. I use philz touch and i believe it does both USB OTG and sideloading although i've verified neither.
Recently I flashed something naughty that messed with my boot.img and it broke my wi-fi (wouldn't turn on). I fixed it by doing a selective restore and restoring only /boot from my nandroid backup.

thanks for your reply,
I have a nandroid backup .zip but i don't know how to put it on to my phone because i can't transfer anything to it.
My h-boot is 1.54 so i can't run any RUU's. I can't root because i can't transfer superuser to my SD card so i can't gain S-off.
I don't know what else to try, spent loads of hours over this.
Any other way i can root without needing SD card or an RUU for hboot 1.54?
I can't get those USB otg devices cause they aren't available in my country.
