So I followed this guide to get the ICS lockscreen, but I can't figure out how to add wallpaper. (the background is black). It would be great if someone has any ideas on how to make wallpaper work! I think this is would be a great step in deamazoning the kindle.

Thanks for the pic the photo was fine. To be honest id almost prefer the black screen then some
advertising for amazon gift card/at&t/ultrabook crap.
thanks for the post im sold and diving in...
Ya I have the same problem. This lock screen gets triggered when you change the DPI too, but anyways. I've been dealing with this too. I think that what says to use a wallpaper is set up in the framework-res.apk, and would require some major reworking to have it set the wallpaper from the launcher it's using. I say this because right now, the framework-res.apk is saying that if everything on the fire HD is working okay, display wallpapers within the app itself. And is everything isn't okay on the fire HD, display a black background. You would have to edit it to say that if launcher is using x wallpaper, than use x wallpaper as it's own wallpaper. It's so complicated because amazon reworked the entire android source code in relation to the lock screen, amazon didn't want anyone messing with it. To change the wallpaper, you will have to have a full knowledge of how to rebuild applications for android, and balls of steel to mess with an app like the framework-res.apk

I don't think we can get it using the same wallpaper as the launcher automatically either. I would be fine with it using amazon's stock images (you can change those with 7zip/winrar to match your launcher's anyway).
EDIT: does changing the dpi make the status/navigation bar smaller? If so, I might do that!

is there a way to have your home wallpaper at just 480x320 resolution where it just stays in the same place & doesn't scroll behind the icons? without using a home replacement app.

I am not sure what the previous post meant? You need to compile your own launcher with eclipse. When you download the source from git, there is a launcher.java file which allows you to change the number of homescreens. I am trying to figure out how to do the actual compiling. If you find out let me know.
I think I have this figured out. When I am able to make a 3 screen launcher, I will also do a 1 screen, and post it for you.
what he wants or wants to know, is if it can be set up to make his icons more from screen to screen, but have his wallpaper not move (now it moves a little bit left or right when you slide to a different screen.) I have never seen such a thing myself to stop this from happening.
the "wallpaper set and save" app worked perfectly. thank you
Wallpaper Plus
well you can use wallpaper plus but its a paid app but it works and you can also crop the selected image for the single screen and that'' leave it as one image but will suck in landscape since its cropped and wont strecth but i suggest it, works very well

what someone should do is make it to where itll show a DIFFERENT wallpaper for every screen...

Hey guys, I just bought my Nook Color yesterday and rooted it as well. The thing I am trying to figure out is is there a tutorial on how to get it like a tablet and put icons on the home screen and use a launcher just like any tablet running on Android? Please keep in mind I am looking for compete instructions on how to change the launcher and add icons and such because I rooted it by following the exact steps. Currently I have Soft Keys as the default launcher with the book one running under that. Thanks very much in advance!
I'm in the same boat. I read the threads and learned a lot, tried a few things, and asked a few questions. The problem with simply following a list of instructions is that you wouldn't really be setting it up the way you want, and that is one of the beauties of rooting.
Az
Well I put Zeam Launcher on it and I am pretty happy with the way it looks so far, just gotta figure out how to add icons and widgets to the pages... Also whats the ideal size for wallpaper for the nook color?
I suggest looking at the screenshots. Finding looks you like. Than going to the android market and doing. No better education that doing.

Use" wallpaper set and save" (free from market) to change wallpaper, and as for placing icons on "desktop" pages, go to apps drawer and press and hold on an app. The drawer will disapear andyou will be able to place it...
Sorry for rushed answer...
Thanks for the replies guys I got my book perfect. The only thing is how can I remove a black bar at the top and bottom of the screen? Its behind the page indicator on the top and behind the dock on the bottom.
i made a complete guide on my website how to root with some different tweaks you can do:
mrm3.net
Thanks for the reply but there is nothing on your site saying how to remove the bars and/or to stretch the wallpaper to cover the whole screen as well as behind the dock.
Anyone have an idea of his to strech the wallpaper as was stated in my previous post? I really hate the black bars on top and behind the dock.

You have to get the right size wallpaper. I have lost the link to the site, but you can choose what size wallpaper to dnld & If I remember correctly, if you go to the site with the NC, it will offer the right size files by default.
Cheers,
kev
P.S. The NC screen is 1024 x 600
this will blow your mind on how crystal clear the wallpapers can be when we use native 1024x600 resolution. this is not some blown up 480x800 blurry wallpapers we always see to acheve wallpaper scrolling wich I always have off cus it lags my scrolling
1. download multipicture live wallpaper
2. download a highdef wallpaper here wowallpapers.com/show_wallpaper/world/england_wallpaper_01_1024x600.jpg
3. go to live wallpapers and select multipicture live wallpaper
4. go to common settings - picture source - single picture and select the high def pic
5. then select crop resize ratio and select Show Entire Picture
6. go back and under drawer settings select transition type and select None.
7.go back and under picture folder selection uncheck double tap to change picture
8.then go to picture change interval select Never
enjoy the most unreal wallpaper on your nook. if u have adw select landscape oreintation only . because potrait kills the wallpaper
Or just check the long-standing steps posted in the OP of a stickied thread in this very forum There is a quick & dirty solution there, but also my steps to get a pixel-perfect wallpaper.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=889951
PS: 1024x600 is too small. You need a bigger image than that if you want to have it move in the background a keep an un-stretched image. We use the same size as the Galaxy, which is 1200x1024. That seems to give me the best results.
that method involves cropping the picture. my method SHOWS THE WHOLE 1024x600 picture (no croping)and its a tottaly diffrent way of the one that's posted on there. and I also mentioned I dont like having the wallpaper scroll at a cost of performance. if u wanna do it your way by all means I'm just sharing my way of doing things. cheers

Well you only need to crop the image if it's not the right size already, which is true of any method of setting a wallpaper, including yours. Not to mention that your method breaks in 50% of supported orientations Hardly "tottaly diffrent..."
And I have no idea what performance hit you are seeing from having a scrolling wallpaper. I've had no issues at all on Android 2.1 or 2.3, both at stock or with an OC'ed kernal. I mean, you're of course welcome to use whatever settings you want, I just dont know what performance hit you're talking about.
Either way, this just seems like a bunch of extra steps to accomplish the same thing that has been posted previously, just with less functionality. I dont mean to sound malicious; I just dont understand what advantage you're offering people.

wow I have to spoon feed u an understanding of what i acheved. read and read again. u get a 1024x600 native wallpaper on your nook on landscape. no chopping or visible blockyness. if u want a wallpaper that scrolls your method is prob good I never tryed it. but since I DO NOT have my wallpaper scroll I like to have the WHOLE picture visible and none of it hiding on the sides

Thank you so much
You are a genius cowballz69!!! Not only did this solve my problem and keep me from having to crop, resize, etc, etc, it also allowed me to have random wallpapers, different size wallpapers, etc. And they all scale excellently and look wonderful on my Nook Color! I was even able to mess around with the program settings and get an accpetable workaround for the wallpapers in portrait mode. (I have the mirror effect above and below the image, looks nice.) Thanks again!
Is this 1-1 pixel mapping when done either way?
I haven't even tried putting a wallpaper on other than the defaults yet, too busy exploring other NC features.
I tried every single method out there, this was the only one that really came out nice and crisp. Thanks man.
After reading up, i also tried ES File Explorer's Wallpaper function and got very good results, not as good as your method, but i would prefer to not run a live wallpaper if possible and got good results. I hope a surefire solution to this wallpaper situation shows up for the nook one day. I force the nook to landscape btw.

I just tried Wall Switch with 1024x600 wallpapers and it still insists on cropping and otherwise adjusting the pics.
edit:
On the subject of the thread, I'm kind of surprised that this hasn't been fixed yet. Usually you guys jump on wallpapers and themes right after root.
I don't understand why the settings aren't built in that will allow us to just go choose a 1024x600 image, apply it in the correct orientation, and not let it move no matter how the screen is tilted. I don't want my wallpaper to scroll or change at all. That seems like it should be easy to do.

I would just set it up as the main wallpaper. I saw a lot of people wanting lock screen centered wallpapers so when i was working on it i figured why not make one. I too wish i could have two wallpapers one for lock screen and one for the home screens. I have seen some apps that do this. MultiPicture Live Wallpaper is one that i can remember. Ill install the app and redo the picture sizes so they can work for you guys.
OK so install the app -MultiPicture Live Wallpaper-
Go to the setting and check the lock screen option.
Set the lock screen as http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13348576/Android/Xoom/lock.jpg
Then set the home screen wallpaper as http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13348576/Android/Xoom/Wallpaper.jpg
Change the transition to none and BAM you are done.
This is from memory but should be pretty close. If you have any problems let me know and ill redo it on my xoom.
Any wallpaper you find online could necessarily work. I use wallpapers that are 1920px x 1280px and seem to work just fine.

Yes but most of us are picky and want them to be in the right size so they look the best they can.
Hey everyone,
I've been looking for an answer to this question, but I can't find one anywhere, blah, blah, blah.
I am running Nova Launcher Prime 4.2.2 over the stock launcher on my N920A with Android 5.1.1. I have a wallpaper with a solid black background. It looks something like the first image below. You might not be able to see it on a monitor, but the problem is that across the bottom, something (I am assuming it's my stock launcher or theme service) is lightening my background. It is happening in front of where the dock would normally be. In order to highlight what the problem is, I took some screenshots and then used paint to color in my background. Since I am a first-time poster, I can't post links, but I can tell you that my screenshots are on i dot imgur dot com with the following file names (sorry for technically posting links...):
My home screen with Default theme: tEvYClN.jpg
My home screen with Default theme and the background colored white: i9wfuK7.jpg
Now here is what happens when I change the system theme to sd-Black
My home screen with sd-Black theme: T7tDb5N.jpg
My home screed with sd-Black theme and the background colored white: vpfYaE7.jpg
Here is one more view of what I see on my screen. iNH7n7t.jpg
So changing the theme adjusts the height of the color distortion at the bottom. and top I want to know how I can get rid of those bars altogether. I am sure that this bar on the bottom changes when I adjust the system theme and I have tried it with other wallpapers with the same result. I have done as much troubleshooting and narrowing down of the problem as I can. Any thoughts? Thank you all for your help!
