hey guys,
after 3hrs trying to figure out,how i can root a Wildfire from my friend i wrote this tutorial for you.
I am not responsible for any bricks or damages !!
1. you should make sure you have Bootloaderversion 1.01.0001
2. After this make sure you have uninstalled your HTC Sync and restarted you PC
3. Then go to http://alpharev.nl/x/beta/ and download your desired version of alpharev (linux or Windows-->i used Windows 64bit)
4. after that you connect your phone on usb,but select "Charging-only"-Mode!
5. Finally Run alpharev.exe as admin and follow the instructions....
6. Now you should have S-OFF and can install superuser :

Okay, it took me some trying and stuff but I finaly found a way!
Okay, this is going to be simple step-by-step
FirsT: Copy this to the root of your SD card: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=548407&d=1300751790
Second: Go into HBOOT and click yes when it asks you to update (note: Please make sure your SD card is FAT32 and not FAT, it must be FAT32 for this step to work.
Third: Remove the img file from your sd card and add this file: http://bit.ly/su2361ef
Fourth: Go into HBOOT and click Recovery!
Fifth: Click install zip from sdcard (or some thing like that)
Sixth: Click choose zip from sdcard
Seventh Locate your zip and let it update
AND YOU'RE DONE!
Have fun being free!
If you're having problems with the HBOOT not detecting the .zip update, please check if you SD card is FAT32.

So i have a rooted htc vivid and today my battery died today and now my phone will not boot up at all. I can plug in the charger and the charge light comes on for a few seconds and then goes off.. It did this once last night and came back on after pulling the battery. Died today and cant get it back on...help me out please someone..
We followed Slapshot30's Superguide by doing the following:
HTC Dev Unlock - confirmed
Followed step 2 but got an error trying to update recovery
Used the Supertool Method and confirmed root with Titanium Backup
Tried Flashing a couple different versions of CWM to no avail.
Now we are at the current situation, unable to even boot into hboot by pulling battery and using power/vol down method.
At a standstill now
Edit: Oh and I helped him root this phone. I've rooted both my OG Evo and my E3D.
Edit #2 - Got it to boot into hboot and now the phone is booting up normally. Anyone know why it would do that? Also, does anyone know where I can find a download for CWM that I can flash through the bootloader? When we try to go to the recovery now it just goes the the screen with the red exclamation.
Are you able to flash the PH39IMG from the superguide? It's really easy, just put that file on the internal or external memory and boot into hboot and the phone will automatically update to the newest recovery.
If that doesn't work you cab flash the recovery using the other guide in the superguide, the one involving flashimagegui app.

How about going to the thread for the new recovery (thecubed is the dev that made it). There is another method posted there, just a little more confusing. It involves a line or two of code in the command prompt.

yeah I guess that can be a bit of a pain... Sometimes when I have an error and can't seem to figure it out I like to re-start at least a portion of what Im working on with a clean slate and make sure I did everything correctly, cleanly, etc.. but that's the programmer in me coming back out after years of unintentional suppression

I mean that would get rid of of absolutely everything third-party making the Vivid just like it was when it was first turned on?

Yes, just follow that tut...should work for all ruus...don't worry, I'm a noob too when it comes to HTC...this is my first HTC and I'm still trying to figure all this stuff out...just make sure you delete any apps before from system/app before you flash that you don't want

Follow the guide...you don't actually flash through the .exe file, you run the program and when you get to the first screen with choices click start/search>type in "%temp%" but with no quotes, search Rom.zip and take that out to you desktop...you will need linux (ubuntu) to continue from there...
If you flash from the .exe it will have tons of bloat and yes it will wipe everything

Titanium back up is your friend...download free version from play store and back up apps, put a copy of the back up on your pc in case you ever delete it on accident...

Yeah, people think, but that doesn't mean you must write that it doesn't do this or that, as you posted there, that was from another version of Touch Recovery, mention the version so people know this or that, many someone don't mind the mount-usb as there is a workaround, but when they see that cleand dalvik doesn't work or other things, they will surely panic )
For starters it is a good guide, just some polishing here and there

Hi, i'm using Sensation XL w a Cobra rom, i got this problem trying to install various apps from market. For instance, XDA, its keep saying "Can't install on USB Storage or SD card", but some other apps can be installed just fine. Storage count: Internal 4Gb, Phone Storage 8.89Gb - So i don't really know what's going on.
Also did try to fix it with this solution http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1965039, but the XL doesn't have a removable SD card, so ... there's no "unmount"
So i heard about your fix, tried it, but it stays the same.
It would be really great if you can help me out.

Hi,
It's been about a year since I've messed about with my XL, I flashed it the day I got it as usual, but then a few months later the speaker broke. So I unrooted, re-locked etc, and after spending 10 months psyching myself up to be without my phone for a week, I eventually sent it off for repair. I've had it back a month or so, and got a bee in my bonet last night, and decided to go custom again. I decided to go for Evervolv, and went through the processes again (in a much easier fashion than it was in Nov 11 when I got my phone). Anyway, having made several mistakes, and attempted short-cuts, to eventually go back to doing it the way i did it last time (China ROM etc), I eventually got my phone booting again. It is all working nice (big thanks to the team behind the ROM - love it, and big thanks to Vertigo and Shinger5 for some of the guides), but I had no usable SD card. So more searching and came accross this thread, and got a little stumbled at point 6 of second method (XL Tool). So decided to d/l the JB fix, and side load it. This now gives me an SD card, but only 236kb. I have no idea what I've done wrong, and short of starting again to eliminate the lack of sleep having influence, I don't know what to do.
Any ideas anyone?

I don't think so. Actual 'rooting' takes place within a rooted ROM, but you have to unlock your bootloader first, and even that is not a one-click process. MAYBE if you get the HTC dev unlock code file via email, and place it in a certain folder on your PC, there may be a script out there that could do the rest, but that of course requires a PC with proper ADB and HTC driver setup. Bottom line is I don't think it can be done without a PC.
