Don't listen to gossips. This is a seriously good gadget.

Geez, nothing like throwing the baby out with the bath water.
Plop a good kernel on it and don't worry about it...but...to each his own I guess.

I know, I bought a well taken care of one in mint condition, a extended battery, docking station all for 250 bucks, because he learned of this bug.
Got home, flashed a safe kernel, flashed PA 2.55 ultaka. And now I'm lmao

Are you unhappy with your Samsung Galaxy S?

I have noticed a lot of unhappy Galaxy S owners on the forums, Most complaining about slow or bricked phones.
If you are unhappy with your Galaxy S GT-I9000/GT-I9000M I will be happy to take it off your hands. I will offer you $150 for your phone. If it is bricked, I will offer you $100.
You can take the money and buy a nice shiny new phone that will suit your purposes better.

But if anyone really wants to accept that deal I'll take one as well!

I'm serious. I figure if people are b*tching about their phones performance or that their phones are bricked because they are dumb enough to mess around with their phones without doing the necessary reading and screw up their phones, maybe they'll be dumb enough to fall for this. I'll be more than happy to take them off their hands.

Yes, i am unhappy and will be switching to either Motorola or LG.

Not at all. I bought mine last Thursday. Started by hacking the Kies registry and downloading the JPY firmware.
So far it's meeting or surpassing all my expectations. Sure, a LED flash would be nice. Or a nice aluminium body. Then again it fits into my pockets exceptionally well this way.
Anyway, I'm loving it so far!
Appart from the GPS performance, I'm really happy with my Galaxy S.
Completely happy with my Galaxy S.
The software on SGS is getting better and better:
- firmwares (soon gingerbread)
- costom ROM's (allways optimised)
- kernels (speedmod, voodoo, OC, ...)
- usefull app modifications (phone, email, mms,...)
- sound improvements (voodoo)
- video improvements (voodoo)
- file system improvements (ext4,...)
- new features (audio true usb, connect external usb flash,...)
- many more things to come...
Best phone of the year 2010!
I so much like this phone, so much potentional, so much future!
I only miss a flash :/

Definitely unhappy with the phone. I mean, I'm waiting on my third one to come in, and that's nothing compared to the number of phones some people have gone through on here (first one was on stock JH2 as well and died before the Froyo update even dropped, so it's not the hacks).
That said, $150? Makes a hell of a lot more sense to get a replacement, sell it for $400-500 and buy a Desire Z or some other more stable $500 phone.

Anyone still buying std Inc batteries?

I've got two D-INC std 1500 batteries that are used( 6mo, 2mo) and a back cover for one too. I was just wondering if people are still willing to buy the original batteries rather than going for the higher end ones that are out now? I just have no use for them myself as i've upgraded to a D-INC II and no longer have the D-INC handset it self due to it being sent back to big V for repair/trade for the II.
selling price within the US?
If your battery has an STD, you might take it to the clinic. I'm pretty sure they can clear that up.
Hate to revive but what did you mean by clinic? And really I'd be selling both for like 20ish, back cover possibly included if you need/want it.

fyi, stock batteries are 1300 mah... and $20 is ripping us off cause i got a 1500 for ~$5 last year when i got my phone, and just bought a seidio extended batt and cover for $12.
If you wanna help someone out, you could offer it to a friend who has a Dinc or an EVO 4g(works on this too).
Oh see I had no ideas what prices where otherwise I would have said different.

[Q] long term experience

What were your long term experiences with the phone (advantages, disadvantages, battery drain,...)?
Would you buy it again?
It depends. I got this phone because I was on a budget. If the $300 price point is out of reach to buy a prepaid phone (as is the case for me), then nothing beats this phone, especially with the amazing support available here! If I had the chance to spring for an S2, or N4 I would in a second, but I'm very happy with my $200 phone so far!
tl;dr Yes, for the price.
I have had this phone since it came out and sold at Walmart. That has been sometime back. Rooted and peachsunrise 1.2 installed in month 1. Since then I have bought the girlfriend one and did hers with CM9 and now I am on slimbean with sgk 1.55 and have never had a problem other than burning up a battery flashing Galaxy W overclock kernel. That's my fault not device. Girls is put to side as her upgrade Thu Verizon finally came around and she went sgs3 and has since had it in for warranty 2 times versus 0 for this phone. I love this phone and have an upgrade phone sgs2 but this is my daily phone still to date. Ease of use reliable and convenient sized as well as extremely resilient to damages using the d30 fitted case.:thumbup::thumbup:

Safe to sell bricked phone? Hacking/identity theft risk?

I'm considering selling my girlfriend's dead exhibit ii but need some technical advise first. The EMMC chip died, as confirmed by an attempted JTAG repair by Mobiltechvideos. It is dead as a doornail, and Mobiltech suggested that I sell it on ebay. They think it might go for $75 to $100 for parts, which completely astounded me. It is in museum-quality shape, but I figured it would only be worth $5 with a dead EMMC chip. Anyway, I'm afraid that there might be some recoverable data on the phone that would create an identity-theft risk or some financial risk. Am I being overly cautious? I had not wiped the data/ROM/cache before the phone died. Of course I will remove the micro SD card. But will selling it on ebay present some sort of data-loss risk? Please advise. I'm happy to say my exhibit ii is going strong, with slimbean, and she bought another exhibit ii, since they're still so dirt cheap. Nice little phone for the money.
If its dead I'm pretty sure nothing can be recovered from it. As far as getting 100 for it I believe that's gonna be impossible since I paid 80 for mine a few months back and its flawless

Thanks. What's a wild guesstimate that it might bring? Wonder if it's even worth selling? If it were an Siii or a really expensive phone, it would be a different story.

Should I buy a captivate?

Hey guys,
I have a galaxy Nexus on Verizon. My girl friend HAD an HTC Vivid on AT&T.
Her phone recently broke and she needs a replacement. We don't have much money, so I started looking on ebay for some cheap phones on AT&T that I could get her. Originally I would have liked to get her some kind of Nexus phone, but they are all expensive.
I noticed the Galaxy S captivate is widely available on ebay, and it can be purchased for around half the price of the galaxy s 2. It seems to be around $70 on ebay.
I was considering buying this phone and putting CM10.1 on it.
Considering the price and performance of this phone, does this sound like a good idea? Will my GF be happy with it? I don't think she will miss not having 4G.
Thanks.
I've been running 10.1 nightlies with no problem for the last month.
You might just install the monthly M build on it.
The captivate is an awesome phone. I have a gs3 and my old captivate will do almost anything that my gs3 will grant it the gs3 is a lot faster at it. Development is awesome for the captivate too. Don't think you could go wrong with the cappy. I was running 4.2 aosp before my upgrade and it ran great.

I purchased one with a slightly cracked screen for forty bucks on ebay. It seemed like a good deal. I'm trying to find a cheap replacement digitizer. I have successfully replaced a few screens with no damage to the phone/laptop/tablet, but each smartphone is different so I hope it isn't too hard to fix the captivates.
I'm looking forward to putting a rom on it. My only concern for my GF is if she will really miss the lack of an LED on the back to use as a flash light. I wasn't aware of that missing.

If you want a reliable phone with great development this far into the life of the device than do yourself a favor and grab a Capdaddy. I've had mine since its release and I am not looking to upgrade anytime soon.
Great Value for money.

Apart from Battery Backup Front Cam and LED Flash this phone has everything with Strong body panel.
I am running CM 10.1 and it is working lag free.

I get that it has no front cam or LED flash, but what do you mean by battery backup?
And I am excited for it to arrive so I can start tinkering with it and give it to her.
Go for the Samsung Captivate Glide

If I were you i would consider a newer phone. While i love my 2.5 yo cappy, and have ported and polished the heads... er I mean rooted rommed, upgraded and inverted it, its still is a 3 year old phone. Att has free phones (with year contract) like the Samsung Captivate Glide, with 8 meg camera, dual core CPU, slide out keyboard and front facing camera. Not sure how hack able it is, but if it is a SG captivate at heart things should work fine.

It is also .99 cents.

I think it goes without saying that we are locked into a contract and are unable to take advantage of the subsidized phones.

edit: things aren't going so well. I wish I knew it had so many GPS issues. Mine has busted usb pins -.-
Busted usb pins sucks. Was it $40 functioning as is? When $70 on eBay or craigslist you usually get a good deal. You can try yer hand at soldering and get a new port for about $5 or send it to be fixed for about $30-$40. By battery they meant its almost three years old so the battery is not the best. You can get some slim extended batteries really cheap or any battery that works for the Sprint GS2 Epic Touch 4G, but not the other S2's. All in all its a great phone though. Hellybean and Captivating "newest m2 build seems to be a little buggies for most" 4.2 ROMS are running amazing on it. I've heard great on slimbean too. 4.2 is the best my Cappy has been yet.

I am currently running a Vivid (Raider here in Canada) as my daily driver and I love it as she probably did as well.
The actual usability will be very similar to your nexus as cm10.1 is very vanilla user experience. As long as she doesn't need too much power it will be a great phone. The size, weight and screen are the reason I bought one again.
If you are not familiar with running custom roms, it will be a little bit buggy, but mine hasn't had any problems so far. Great phone and $70 is a reasonable price. (I got my first for $60 brand new and second for $20 barely used from a friend)
Keep in mind you can buy ANY android phone and unlock it quickly and for free or little cost.:good:
