Why the system creates sortcuts on it's own for some apps? Like for viber: I put sortcut on second page on homescreen, and after conversation, or a message it creates one more on the first page, if there is space. Why is that?

As far as I understand, it has nothing to do with the ROM -- this is what particular apps do. Some apps create their own shortcuts on the home screen upon first launch, and some don't. If I see it, I simply delete the shortcut that I don't want (it doesn't reappear, as it only gets created on very first launch). Yes, a little bit annoying, but not a big deal. Same thing in Windows -- some apps are creating shortcuts on the Desktop without asking. Just delete them, that's it...
On other phones is Rom-related, I don't know if that's the case with you.
There is a setting in newer versions of the "Play Store App" which can be turned on and off.
It can be set to create shortcuts to all newly installed apps.
As kt-Froggy wrote, some apps do this by themselves (e.g. Dolphin Browser) at the first startup.
Thanks . I was curious to know why this happens.

tried looking but no luck, i just want to put certain apps into one folder like spare parts, settings, etc. is there a way?
as it seems not at the moment, but i want this feature too. how is it possible to install an infinite number of applications but no way to organize the startmenu?
it would be nice....but in the meantime, there is an app in the market called aps organizer. you can assign different apps to different labels (and create your own labels), and then you can put shortcuts to those labels on your homescreen.
That way you get the folders (sort of) on your homescreen and don;t need to use the main menu. I think ive used the main menu about twice in the two weeks i've had it installed.
Given that the market is already split into categories I don't understand why this isn't implemented in the App menu. It IS quite annoying. Also, given that the market already has a categorization couldn't someone develop an app that Auto-sorts the menu. Gnome on Linux does a very good job of this, don't know about KDE...
This is one of my biggest gripes with my Hero. I'm a bit OCD when it comes to organization on my phone and computer. The sooner I can organize the programs more efficiently, the better! I'd really appreciate an app, update or custom ROM that could enable this.
I have folders on my home screen for different apps. but the main programs menu still bugs the hell out of me, especially when it displays things like font packs with the rest of my programs :S
Is it possilbe to clean up the start menu of the Sense UI? Like make folders for system tools, multimedia, games and so on. instead of having this endless list of apps. i always miss the app i am looking for, even that the are sorted a-z.
i am used to it from my old hd2 with win mob. you just make folders and move it where you want. but i dont know how about android handles this thing.
maybe somebody can help me.
Thanks
sorry i was doing some miss-spelling on the title, if some mod or admin would be so friendly and correct that please

As of yet I dont think there is a way and your best bet is to just create folders on your desktop and organise it that way. To be honest I would prefer the windows menu because I love organisation....unfortunately...the rest of windows mobile sucked...
Hope that helps.
i agree, that was the only positive thing on windows mobile. i had everything organized and could find everything in a few clicks. now i have to scroll up and down the list especially some programms have wired names, so i dont always remember them...
do you know a good folder programm?
i am trying right now "folder organizer lite" is there anything better, except the paid version of it?
I was a bit put out when I saw that the items are in one big list. Mind you, I've just come from having years of Nokia phones and if you don't use something very often it's a pain to remember which menu tree it's in so there are pros and cons.
What I've done is clear out the HTC stuff from each screen and arrange different *groups* of widgets on each. So 'media' (camera, music, etc) on one for example. System-type stuff on another (settings, brightness, etc etc).
Works for me but each to his own.
Dave
Use Folder Organizer it does a good Job for me you can find a free version on Market.
i am using folder organizer already and bought the full version. but it would be nice if i could get rid of this messed up menu.
i have just one question to folder organizer. how can i get or make my own folder icons. do they have to be in .ico format and where do i have to put them?
Why cant we create folders and push them to a home screen and use it, this can be better if i am not wrong! I am still new to android but i found this useful and easy to access my apps!
You can try "smart shortcuts" its a free app from market
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
You can create folders on your home screen and put shortcuts to any apps within them. Just drag and drop. You can also rename folders by long-presing on the title bar of an open folder.
Alternatively, if you don't mind using a different launcher to HTC Sense you can get ADW.Launcher free from Market. This allows you to create 'custom catalogues' in the app draw. You can set it to have pagination buttons within the app draw to easily switch between the catalogues. You can, if you like, have one for games, one for navigation etc. It's not ideal but it works and ADW.Launcher is a great (and very customisable) launcher too.
Hope this helps.

Okay, so far, mostly good, but have a few questions I'm hoping someone can help me with. I've used autonooter for 1.0.1 (after upgrading the firmware to 1.0.1 of course) and also disabled the cell and telephony services by renaming them to .OLD.
1) How do you get the web button to actually launch a different browser than the stock one? I've installed Dolphin and Dolphin HD and set each in turn as the "default browser" in their settings and mutliple times after multiple reboots. But when I use the 'web' button on the NC menu, it always takes me to the stock browser. What am I missing here?
2) I don't want the 'email' app running. I don't need it, don't want it (have web-based email for everything I need), but can't figure out how to keep it from running. Or maybe I just don't understand what it does? Can someone explain either the necessity of email or how to shut it off?
3) I also notice something called 'social' running. Have no clue what it is and figure I probably don't want or need it running. Can anyone explain this one for me (why I need it or how I shut it off)?
4) Has anyone found a workaround to replace needing a reboot to make installed apps show on the extras page?
5) How to you manage the 'extras' page? As the amount of installed apps grows, the page is becoming more and more difficult to use. Is this something simple I'm missing?
6) I noticed the open book/recently reading icon doesn't work now unless I use the stock launcher. I've read that all you have to do is run it once (then go back to softkeys or whatever) and the button works, but also read that disappears each time you restart (see above). Is there any workaround to having to do this?
7) Is is possible to remap the other keys? For example, make the open book button do something else? Or the keys in the menu that comes up?
8) Lastly...what size microSD card does everyone recommend? Seems anything over 4GB would just be a waste.
Thanks to anyone who responds!

Don't use the Web button. Launch the browser.
Set it to sync manually. Fixed.
Ignore, part of B&N
Use a launcher. ADW Launcher works great.
See above
Pretty sure if you hit the softkey for the B&N apps, hit Library, then tap the Book icon you're talking about it will launch the last book. 2 extra taps.
Those aren't keys, and let's just say no.
Anything under 8G ain't going to have much music or data. Up to you.
Thanks khaytsus but...
1) When you say "launch" the browser, from where do you mean? I tried the web icon in Zeam and it does the same thing. Are you saying the only way to use an alternate browser is to open extras or apps and launch it? So 'set as default' doesn't work on any of these browsers?
2) I set up the email check frequency to never but it still runs once rebooting.
4) Tried using the applications icon in Zeam and ADW, but it still doesn't show newly installed applications until a reboot.
6) Thanks for the suggestion, but the book button still doesn't work.
Any other thoughts?

I'm not sure I understand why that's relevant. Have you posed that question to the hundreds of others on here who have done so?
I am curious why people choose to root.
Just root your own and find out.

I am rooted. I rooted because I thought this $249 eReader would make a great tablet with the right hacks/rom. So far the market, gmail, calendar and others things work great. Waiting patiently for CM7.
4/5 Theres no readin to use the b&n bar. Use the app drawer (from adw or zeam) to launch your apps. In the app drawer hold down your browser (use dolphin hd or another, the default is no good) icon and it will make a shotcut on the main screen. You dont really ever have to use the default bn stuff.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=872295 Do this to put books on your homescreen. Even when u close a book it will remember the last page u were on.
6 Its broke, havent seen a work around.
Correct me if I am wrong, but I though I heard somewhere a while back ago that Windows Phone 8 might get a folders opption.
Define...
You can see various folders on the computer when the phone is connected with USB.
Also, some programs can see those folders, but the app has to be programmed for it.

Just to get multiple apps in one tile.

Plus, you could organize.
Don't you have grouping on you start menu?
Personally, I don't think I would use the feature.
I like my start screen clean and concise.

Judging by your recent posts, I do not think you understand what live tiles are supposed to be.
You are not supposed to pin every single app you have to start screen(that's why you have an app drawer)
You are supposed to launch an app with a single tap, not spend several other taps just to get to the app you need.
Windows Phone already has a simple but very effective way of sorting apps. If you don't use an app all too often, why do you need it on the start screen?
If you use an app very often, why do you need to spend extra taps to get it launching?
Folders are really not needed on Windows Phone, and for that matter, any other smartphone, they do not bring anything useful to the mix, but more clutter and less performance.
And if you really die for not having folders, get used with the concept of hubs, which is a much better implementation of folders, and you can pin them to start screen, and they also provide you with nice info.
There aren't hubs for everything: no news, social etc. Further, not all apps populate the hubs you'd.think they should. Jaxbot's folders app essentially allows creation of custom hubs and an uncluttered Start screen. So yeah, WP8 could use something similar.

Dude, I completely understand what live tiles are no need to vent or get all fired up. It's just an option; some might like it while others might not.

Social has two hubs, actually: Me and people.
Apps not populating the hubs is not the users nor microsoft's problem, it is developer problem.
And if you really want a news hub, go suggest it to Microsoft, they are already considering it anyway.
Well its actually technically possible to create folders now without homebrew apps. The folders will work fine for non live tile apps but otherwise u lose the live tile capabilities.

Hello! So I'm keeping my apps list to a maximum of two pages for practical reasons, and whenever I install a new app, it becomes the first and only app on the third page of the list. That's why I have some of my apps organized inside folders, to always have two pages filled with apps. The thing is, whenever I drag that last app to a folder that is located at the beginning of the first page, the app order gets messed up. All the apps located after that folder get shifted by one place to the right, leaving an empy space on both pages, requiring me to drag the apps (one by one) back to their original positions. I find that extremely annoying. Why would they make the apps behave in such manner? Is there any other way of moving apps to a folder?

Yes, there is another way to add apps to existing folders.
Just open the folder and click the plus at the top of it (see my screenshot). Then you can select all apps you want to add to this folder. So your apps drawer will not be messed up accidentally.
