[Q] how to unroot samsung galaxy note ics,malaysia version(HELP) - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im new for rooting.i had follow the video below to root and at the end my bluetooth is not functioning. Can anyone teach me the way to unroot it so that i can send my devices for warrantly. After unroot, will my bluetooth recover? Thank for help
Go youtube n type *How to Root ICS on Galaxy Note GT-N7000* and click the first video.

Need more info.
Files you used.
Where were you before. (rom, kernel?)
The method you used involves Franco kernel which is no longer being supported.
Also, it is known that Bluetooth does not work on Franco.
Also, it uses temp cwm which is known potentially brick your device.
Next time remember to do more reading about it or just follow the up to date guides on XDA.
I can suggest to you to flash a safe kernel (I am not sure if that version of Franco from June is safe). Try speed mod or Hydracore kernel found in original development sub forum. Flash with Mobile Odin.
Then, test your bluetooth again.

Find the firmware number you're on, and flash stock kernel from here Flash it in PC odin. Instructions are on that thread. You will get unroot, and stock, and you can send it back. This however is assuming you are on stock samsung ICS? No custom roms? Correct?
I'm not sure what you did, but if you want to see if you're bluetooth is working, download the Hydracore kernel from here, put it in you're sd card, and flash right from recovery (vol up + power + home at the same time). Reboot back into recovery, don't boot up the system. Once you boot back into recovery, wipe cache go to advanced, wipe dalvik, then reboot system.

assuming that you have downloaded and placed the CWM Zip file, Super User Busybox and Super user Uninstaller Signed Zip file and placed the same in your device’s internal memory, turn off the device so that it can be entered in the recovery mode.
To enter your Galaxy Note in the recovery mode, Press Volume Up + Home Button and while holding these both, press Power Button to boot the device in the recovery mode. Release the keys once you see the Samsung logo.In recovery mode, select “install zip from sd card” and then followed by which select the “cwm zip file” followed by the “SU-Uninstaller-signed.zip” file.
It will take less than a minute to finish off the process.Once the device is unrooted successfully, you now need to select the option of “++++ Go Back ++++” and select the option of “reboot system now” to reboot the Galaxy Note.
use triangle away to reset flash counter for warranty purposes.

Okay,
now you can refer to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
Search for the Malaysia ICS stock rom under N7000DXLR5---4.0.4/12.07.30-N7000OLBLR2
You can use CTRL+F to search your country as there are many roms there.
Now, you can follow Dr xp55's link to download the kernel only, but I find the rom list more thorough to get back to the exact state you were in before as flashing the rom will reflash the kernel as well.
Follow the instructions as given in the thread.
You will need:
1) A PC computer
2) USB cable to connect phone to PC
3) PC Odin, software download link is given in the thread.
4) The stock rom, also given in thread.
5) Your phone
Flashing your stock rom will:
Remove root.
Revert your kernel to stock ICS.
Note:
Stock ICS kernel is dangerous to factory reset on, once you have determined bluetooth is working, you may want to consider the following kernels:
Philz:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901191
Hydracore:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1749863
Speedmod:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1673072
Instructions should be given in the links.
For re-rooting again (once you are comfortable), see the first link I gave.
There is safe rooting guide given there and is updated and maintained by Dr. Ketan.

And how would he use triangle away after unrooting his phone? You clearly should know what you are talking about before guiding someone else.
Do not follow those steps he just mentioned.

Actually if you have read what he posted, he has already used triangle away on his stock rooted ICS rom with franco kernel.

You can't watch a video, root, then put a post up expecting others to sort your mess out for you. It may sound harsh but all you need is here ,if you get off your butt. Look up Dr. Ketans thread on unrooting the note and follow it to the letter. He has all the answers you need.

Ok I have a root now ,
when I rebooted my note to recovery I get this : Android system recovery <3e>
It looks like CWM but has no backup and restore options and thats why Iam confused
How I can get the CWM I used to use with my HTC Sensation
It looks like you only did root when what you wanted was root + CWM.
Go back to Dr.Ketan's guide and look at the procedure below this line that is in the first post:
-----------------------------------------Forget all Above and follow simple Step below------------------------------

My summary of your best options:
Follow from Step 2 and use the already-rooted.bat file
OR
The better (in my opinion) way:
Purchase Mobile Odin Pro(MOP) from the market and go get the CF Root Kernel that matches your firmware to get CWM. Just put the Kernel on your sdcard and run MOP, make sure EverRoot and all injections are checked, select file, find kernel, flash. Done.
MOP has also enabled us to retain root when flashing stock firmware updates by using the EverRoot and injections options, however you will lose most CWM functions when this is done. To regain CWM, you simply follow the same steps as above to update to a matching CF Root Kernel.
Have fun, and be sure to hit the thanks button for Ketan and Chainfire!
Dear beestee,
So: I have Kernel KK2 - Download This - and Extract
then : I am Already Rooted - Execute "already-rooted.bat" and follow the instructions
is there any side effects ? like format ot can not Upgrade via OTA or else?
Is there any thing need to be packed up first? like the original kernel if this method will change it
Nothin side effect, you can upgrade over OTA, BUT If you update over OTA/kies, you will lose Root.
So you have to use CWM or Mobile odin to update newer ROM

Ok I done it and it working, but I found that CWM is a program now you can access from phone not like in HTC where you must inter bootloader and MAGLDR to inter CWM
I can make the backup and restore from inside the program - right?
You can get it with entering recovery too, you have to press Home + Vol UP + Power to enter in recovery mode.
you can simply do it with inside app - restart in recovery
when you give command to backup, it will restart and auto enter in recovery mode and finish it

He wrote earlier LB2 kernel thats enough to decide.
about my option
about my option
1)after i flash pre rooted rom how can i update to my rom ?
2)what is the option to wipe ? it delete the all device ? becouse if yes how can i put custom ics,if there is nothing on the device ?
1. After flashing Pre rooted ROM you will have CWN
How to use is depend on which custom ROM you want to flash
For stock ROM this is the way
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20963730&postcount=3
2.Don't understand what you want to ask
about option number 2
the second opion seem to bee more easy than the first one
my Q is : the option wipe is like format in computer ? and using after that with odin is like to boot with bootable cd with os in computer ?
No, Format in computer requires to Install OS.
Here wipes means your device will reboot to factory set. Means everything will be there except stuff you have installed manually.

IMHO=In My Humble Opinion (just in case you were wondering what it meant)
Follow dr.Ketan's advice,a1shay1.
First root successfully, play around with simple things(stock, safe stuff) then think of modding.
Its very very easy,(believe me) to turn your Note a simple, humble paperweight.
suggest
A friend just suggest to root with
I9220LP1-N7000-ICS-REPACK.tar
And then to put the stunner from sd card
stil not good

For future reference, don't perform any wipes under re packed kernel, they have the bug. There shouldn't be a need for these re packed packages anymore steer clear of them. Don't do wipes or nandroid restores under ics kernels AT ANY TIME or you risk bricking.

[Q] I'm about to root and flash rom - here is my checklist - thoughts?

Hi Guys,
After reading a lot, I think I'm set with rooting my note (N7000) - **I was used to AT&T Note, but now I have N7000.
I was so scared hard bricking this N7000 so I watched some videos, read some articles/forums etc.
I watched the video in rootgalaxynote.com and the videos I watched are the how to avoid EMMC brick and how to root Galaxy Note without PC - and I integrated them.
I currently have a fresh 4.0.3 (pure stock)
So here goes:
1) Following this guide http://rootgalaxynote.com/galaxy-note-root/how-to-root-ics-on-galaxy-note-gt-n7000-no-computer-required/ he is saying to download 3 files. CMW.zip + CMW-SU version something + Franco Kernel. **I'm skipping Franco - I'll just use Abyss because I'll flash a totally different ROM anyway
2) Follow the instructions in the guide - flash CWM + CWM-Su version -- reboot then install EFS pro then backup my /efs
3) After backing up my /efs - I will reboot to stock recovery, flash CWM again + CWM-Su-version then instead of using Franco kernel, I will flash Abyss.
4) After flashing Abyss, reboot to recovery (don't reboot completely - since it is gb kernel) <- this to avoid EMMC brick
5) Flash the ICS ROM that I want
Did I miss anything?
Thanks guys!

Yup, It is better safe than sorry.
I'm getting ready now. Thanks
you probably wont be able to boot on abyss, might be best to use notecore or speedmod k3 for ICS. If your phone has GB preinstalled use speedmod k2.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
After step 4 its a good idea to wipe, before you do the rom installation. Sometimes you can install a rom without wipe, but sometimes it will end up with a rom not as stable as if you did. Just make sure you have installed Abyss 4.2 and REBOOTED recovery before you wipe, else you might get a nasty brick.
Also, a nandroid backup and titanium backup of user apps could be a good thing to do first =)

Damn, I'm sooooooooooooooooooooo pissed. I left this N7000 at home then my cousin went home ... then ...
My cousin (who thinks he's an Android hero) followed the flashing step suggested by zedomax (no pc required) and he said the temp touch cwm.zip flashed fine but he can't flash the other cwm zip file with supersu .. he said it says:
can’t access /emmc/
The phone still reboots fine normally, like nothing happened.
But I'm wondering if my /emmc been tampered already? Is it still safe for me to root using Desktop Odin?
What version of Desktop Odin should I use?
Lastly if worse comes to worst and this phone got bricked - I heard you can send your phone to have the JTAG thing repaired (will that fix it?)
Sorry for the questions, but it scared the hell out of me when he told me about the /emmc thing.
Thanks
well, if you read the first reply you would know about cwm.zip being risky. The link there shows a way to get root. But first.
I think you dont need to worry, cause with superbrick its likely your phone wouldnt have booted. You can check by flashing throught pc odin a stockrom/or prerooted rom as link suggests with same csc, if it gets stuck at firmwaresys its superbricked (like longer then 60 minutes and progresbar shows no progres)
just use the links in that thread, dr ketan is very thorough with info, so in first post you will find al info you need.
alternatively, with big risk, place cwm. zip on internal sd, place cwm flashable of speedmod k3 there to, flash cwm.zip, flash k3, reboot and you are root. Then install emmc brickcheck app from market and let it check your phone You will have brickbug firware, all notes do, but you probably dont have corruption on emmc chip.

Yup .. that is why I was so pissed with my cousin. I think he flashed an N7000 (his friend's) before using the temp CWM.zip method and it did work. He actually wanted to surprise me that before I got home it was already rooted.
I was actually reading the thread that the 1st reply posted and I was already decided to do it when I got home .. then I found out about his doings
Also, maybe you might know what version of Desktop Odin I should use, I don't see it on Dr. Ketan's post.
EDIT: Correction - It was Can't mount /emmc
Not - Can't access /emmc
Thanks

Problem wit galaxy note after change of the DPI

Hi All,
Hope I am in the good place to present my problem (i'm new in the forum and I'm just learning the "how to").
Yesterday I've rooted my Gnote (GTN7000 XXLPT - ICS just installed from OTA update). It was the paradise before i decide to instal "DPI change" ...
I set the DPI from 160 to 240 and then save + reboot ... Till that moment, my GNote stuck on the launching logo (Samsung Galaxy Note N7000).
I'm not an expert of Android (the proof ...) and I'm looking for the safest and easiest (step by step) solution to revive my GNote.
I know that XDA is an expert forum and therefore I please every of you that will see my request to help me ...
Ps: A part from the root I have applied no other manipulation on the phone (even the setup of the debuger mode).
Your kind help with this will be saving for me, given that there is no repair / after sale service available in my country.

Thank you for your reply Tibosee,
However, I wonder how I can flash the kernel (a little step by step tutorial will be welcome).
Please help with this.
Regards.
I´d recommend flashing this kernel (HydraCore) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1749863
Kernel Installation
Install either through CWM or PC/Mobile ODIN in the usual manner. Wiping Cache and Dalvik Cache is unnecessary and wont make any difference. Flash only with 25% or more charge on the phone

If you had searched you would have known that you shouldn't use the app to change the DPI. Once you have reflashed a ROM or installed a new kernel, then use Rom Toolbox instead or edit the build.prop manually to change the DPI.

Don't be to hard on him its not stupid to think that an app on market will work as advertised

Dont use apps to change dpi.. it wont work mostly.. i had the same problem on my note.. change it manually via your build prop..

Rom toolbox works if you don't want to mess with build prop but evilspyre already mentioned that

Dears,
Thanks a lot for all assistance with this. Google play will never lies me as long as XDA will be there !
From your various explanations I've drawn the process below (please confirm that my comprehension is correct):
1 - Download and install Mobile Odin (Please provide a link to the safest version); Dont know if Odin will see the phone since i've not activated the debuger mode when the phone parameters was accessible.
2 - Download and install Hydracore Kernel;
3 - Connect the phone on the PC and run Odin (at this step I am not sure to know what to do);
4 - Flash and enjoy (Hope I'll reach this step)
May be the procedure with CWM will be more practicable, especially in case Odin do not see the phone ... But I really not know how to handle it. That's the reason why I was asking a Step by Step assistance.
Thanks and Regards

You only use one of the two applications; Mobile Odin or PC Odin. You don't have to use them together. Since your phone doesn't boot, then I assume Mobile Odin is out of the question. I'm gonna write a quick guide to use PC Odin.
1- Download PC Odin from this link: http://ul.to/xt4607xx (you can search the forum, you will find many download links for Odin 1.85)
EDIT: Here's another link, the 1st one doesn't want to work anymore. http://k0nane.info/rom/odin-185.zip You can google "odin 1.85" and open the first link (it should be an xda forums attachment)
2- Download the standard tar file of the Hydracore 3.5 kernel from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1749863
3- Open PC Odin and click on PDA and choose your kernel tar file downloaded from step 2.
4- Remove all check marks and leave only Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time CHECKED.
5- Turn your phone off and remove the battery and reinsert it.
6- Turn your phone on by pressing and holding the Power button + Menu button + Volume Down button (to get into Download mode).
7- Connect the phone to the USB cable and connect it to the computer. Odin should show a yellow box.
8- Press Start in PC Odin. The yellow box will turn green which means a successful flash.
9- Now you can wipe data safely (never wipe data using stock ICS kernel btw).
How is flashing the kernel going to solve the problem of a b0rked build.prop? Get out of here people.
The only solution to his problem is to flash a custom Rom.

Joey_oggie, thanks a lot for your step by step tutorial, it is realy clear now. I'll try it and revert to tou with the status of the phone.
Just a quick one, regardind the end of your post, you mentioned that I should not wipe a stock rom. My understanding is that stock rom = official samsung rom. Therefore it seems my rom was a stock one (GTN7000 XXLPT - rom updated from GB to ICS - OTA update), since I never change it.
Should I wathever do the wipe as mentioned in your post?

Hi Chasmodo,
I was just about to flash the Kernel of my GNote following Joey's + others advices above.
Please why do you think flashing the Kernel is not advisable? ... Do you think the phone will thereafter completely brick?
Please answer these two questions as quick as you can ... My finger is on the "red bouton" just waiting for you.
Could you also provide a link to a step by step tutorial in case the solution proposed by Joey is safe but comes unsuccessful ?
Thank you for your contribution.
Regards.
If your build.prop is corrupted/broken, flashing a new kernel won't fix it because it won't replace your build.prop.
As Chas said, the easiest fix would be to flash a custom ROM, as this will replace your build.prop.
Regards,
Dave

Well, to flash a new ROM, he needs to be on a safe kernel...
And anyway, I thought wiping data = factory reset. Isn't that right? If so, then wouldn't the wipe fix his problem? I'm new to this stuff so excuse me if that's completely wrong.

Well, from what I read, most (if not all) Samsung stock ICS kernels have a bug which would corrupt the data partition when you wipe on any of them. The problem would appear when you wipe ON them, and not wipe them.

Also flashing the stock Samsung ROM would also solve the problem as it would replace the wrongly edited build.prop with the stock build.prop.
Assuming you have the stock ROM downloaded on your PC, flash it using PC ODIN as explained in an earlier post.
Everything downloading, installing and rooting the stock ROMs is explained here by Dr Ketan
Once that is done, you can root your stock ROM and install mobile odin. You can then flash any custom kernel which is safe and has the brick bug covered. Factory wipe using a safe custom kernel wont brick your phone then.
I am not sure if flashing a safe custom kernel and doing a factory reset would replace the faulty build.prop file with a stock one directly. Chasmodo could explain more....
Flashing a stock ROM would surely replace everything with stock. So you have a clean stock state from which you can play around (rooting, custom kernels/ROMS, etc)

Xda is full of instructions on how to use odin search it. Flashing a kernel won't fix your problem. Best to do as previously advised and flash a new rom, stock or custom either will do
AND DON'T PANIC take it slow and don't do anything before you understand the process your phone is currently in no danger what so ever but a faulty flash can definitely brick it

Thank you all,
Really hope that this issue will help all GNote users when solved. Sure we are approaching the solution ...
I read in Dr Ketan tutorial the following:
Don't wipe anything from stock ICS recovery
Don't factory reset/Hard reset on stock ICS.
Don't flash any Wipe version of ICS ROM
Yesterday, after my GNote freezed on the "Samsung Galaxy Note N7000" image I tried to hard reset by wiping user data via ICS recovery (just after rooting the phone with CWM.
Does it means that my GNote is now bricked?
If it is the case shoud I anyway continue to follow Dr. Ketan tutorial to flash my GNote with a stock rom?
Regards.

Very sorry to say buddy, your Note most likely is bricked. I hope I am wrong.
Try installing a stock ROM, preferrably Ginger Bread ROM via PC ODIN. If it fails, most likely, at FactoryFS write, then your phone is surely bricked.
Let us know how it goes, we can guide you further accordingly.

see if you can still go to download mode and reflash a stock GB on your device. If it's successful then your good to go... if not, then look for the thread here to revive a brick phone.. note down the errors your getting (if there are any errors at all) when your going to reflash it again.

[SOLVED]Stock ICS vs Custom ROM

I have a gingerbread G.Note (the international version) since 6 month and I need to install ICS to install some applications. but I read that Stock ICS either 4.0.3 or the 4.0.4 are not safe as they may cause damage when simply resetting to factory settings or when doing other things.
I read about many custom ROMs but can't decide which is better because ROM fans always write positive review but also I found many people with negative feedback on the same ROMs.
I am not a game freak. so speed is not very important to me. I just need stable and bug free software because I am a busy person and I have no time for installing new ROMs every week plus I read that flashing ROM after another is a great way to damage your phone.
Any Suggestions ??
Download a stock Rom ICS and root it with PhilZ Kernel. Nothing else.
After that your are not in danger or the brick bug anymore and you have all ICS features you need.
Thank you for replying

just to be sure that I understood.
First I will root my stock GB and Install stock ICS like it's said here:

Second I will root the stock kernel and install safe kernel like it's said here:

Any more suggestions
I'll be very thankful if there's more suggestions.

You dont need root GB to flash stock ICS. Just follow the steps in first link how to flash ICS via PC odin.
Download all necessary drivers, pc odin etc... install these, reboot pc.
After that, download ICS rom which you want, charge your battery.
Open PC Odin, reboot phone into download mode, connect usb cable to phone, check in odin (check box must turn yellow), place rom files into odin, then flash. I wrote these steps but it is all described in detail, in the first link, so follow it
When it boots into ICS, when all is finish, download philZ kernel from second link (depends which kernel, considering which version of rom you have now), place your kernel.zip in internal sd card
Reboot phone into recovery mode, follow steps written in post #3 from Philz kernel thread.
Which means, flash philz kernel from stock recovery, just reboot your phone and thats it.
Now you are rooted, and safe from brickbug :good:
But be aware that your apps will gone (not pictures and stuff from interal sd, but to be sure, backup your important files to pc), and your warraty if you have one will be void.
Good luck, if you have question, and you are not sure what you need to do, better ask here, before going into trouble, somebody will respond...
OK I'll try this way

Re: [Q] Stock ICS vs Custom ROM
I am on stock ics rom with stock kernel. My device has the 0x9 brick bug thing. I tried everything to get my device brick because its still in warrenty. But fortunately or unfortunately didnt got it bricked. So i am still not sure what advice to give u. I think u should go for a philz kernel if u feel unsafe. But being deprived of ics despite ics being on this device for half a year now is not wise.
Make the most of ur device rather than being afraid. Brick bug is not ur fault its samsungs fault, so u can always take the device to them and can yell at them.
For me i want my device to get brick so i can take it back to samsung and if they didnt own it. I would take them to the court. People make money from that. I know a lawyer who always welcome such suits with a % share.

@quazibasit. If you want to brick your note, download Cwm.zip from rootgalaxynote.com or youtube, flash it in stock recovery from extSdCard and do /wipe data factory reset with it. It a temp recovery and will disappear on next boot so Samsung won't know what you did.
Let us know if it bricks on first wipe.

Everything is perfect
Everything went perfect.
I have rooted ICS 4.0.4 now with philz kernel.
Thank you all for your help.
I rooted my device downloaded rom manager flashed cwm, give my phone a complete wip and rebooted. It deleted all the data and my device was like a fresh decice. But didnt find anything that explains the brick bug. Some OPs said that its not necessary that it happens when one wipes the data. It can happen anytime even file deleting a large file. But fortunately i didnt experience such thing. So i am no more scared of this bug.
I even flashed slimbeans on my stock ics with stock kernel, but didnt find any bricking, yes it went into bootloop once, but on wiping data it was all ok.
Sorry folks wont advice any of u to do this, it was just experiment which ended smoothly.
