Hi All,
Need help. I installed the ICS ROM upgrade using the RUU from HTC dev on my wife's Incredible S and while the install process seemed to go well, when the phone booted up, the touchscreen and screen buttons were completely unresponsive (not laggy, it is completely frozen).
I have tried a factory reset from the hboot menu. The result is the same; the phone gets to the android home screen and connects to the cell network, but no touch screen or screen buttons working.
To make matters worse, it no longer connects to the PC via USB. The PC sees a device; calls it an "Android 1.0", but I can't interact with it. I have tried to force update the correct drivers, but no luck. HTC sync says there is no device connected; have uninstalled and reinstalled it several times. Have also tried a second computer.
I also tried to reinstall the ICS ROM from an SD card using fastboot with the PG32IMG.zip file. Again the install process seemed to go smoothly, but at the end no touchscreen.
I was going to try the stock gingerbread ROM using the SD card fastboot, but from what I've read, going backwards is not an option.
Both the cell provider (Virgin Canada) and HTC customer support were not able to help. The phone is past warranty and they want us to send it in for repairs.
Device is currently showing:
Locked
vivo pvt ship s-on rl
Hboot-2.03.0000
Radio-3831.19.00.19_M
emmc-boot
I've done a bunch of searching, but haven't been able to find anything quite like this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The filename was:

I also tried the Gingerbread ROM via SD card, but it gave me an error saying it was an older version.

You won't be able to run GB ruu without hboot downgrade, but that will require bootloader unlocking via htcdev site.

Yes, but the problem in doing that is that I cannot get a useful connection to the PC. The bootloader unlocking method on the htcdev site seems to require a PC connection.
Try uninstalling HTC Sync and installing drivers provided on revolutionary installation instructions page.
With no connection to pc you will find it very difficult, if not impossible to rectify. is it a problem with your phone micro USB or your pc USB. I faced the same issue and found it was my micro connection (which also led to charging issues) got it replaced at phone repair shop cost me $80 au. Now everything works great.

You might have more luck with the Canadian variant. Run the ruu utility until it gets to the first screen, the phone doesn't need to be connected at this point. Open start menu on pc and type %temp% in the run/search bar. A temp window should appear. In this window search for rom.zip and copy the file to your desktop.
Rename rom.zip to PG32IMG.zip, place it on the root of your sdcard somehow (another phone or sdcard reader) insert back in phone and start phone into hboot (power + vol down) phone will scan and find the file and prompt install, accept and wait. After installation check your touchscreen and let us know how it went.
if this doesn't fix it, I think you might be looking at a hardware fault.
facing similar issue, just want to ask anyone having issue with ICS/JB, no matter what rom i flash, its still nt smooth

When you said it got stuck do you mean it wouldn't power on at all or was it stuck on the splash screen? Was you doing anything special to your phone like rooting, installing a custom rom or anything of that nature?
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using XDA Premium App
It got stuck last night while installing an app from market. Then I left it on table so hoping it will finish it by morning. But in the morning it wouldnt powerup at all not even recovery mode and when i plug in to charge charging light wont come up..
It had few reboots and remove battery to fix kinda problems(stuck on some apps) few days back.Since its my first droid I thought Its normal for a droid...
I only installed apps from market. And have not rooted it..
Return it to wherever you bought it... Something is clearly wrong with it... and if you didn't S-OFF, root, or flash it then your warranty will still be in tact.
Thanx. Will do that.Bought it on ebay.\With the shipping costs I would have been better off buying from a local shop
HELPPPPPP! My HTC IS does not pass hboot screen.
The white hboot screen reads:
Alpharev
Vivo PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-1.09.1000
RADIO-3805.05.03.22_M
eMMC-boot
I do have the HBOOT menu. The key work.
When I fastboot/bootloder it just returns to fastboot.
When I choose Recovery or factory reset the phone blinks black and white with the HTC logo in center, and vibrates.
I haven't tried the other options of HBOOT menu.
How this happened?
I flashed the radio with this radio 3805.04.03.22. After the flash no voice for all in/out calls.
Then I thought to reflash the radio with a froyo radio: 38.02.01.17, which created the problem.
This a a big call for help! Any idea how to have my phone back to work, even at factory settings.

I have now responded to 2 different posts you made with suggestions to try.
I have a full backup of my phone, at state when it worked (data.img, radio.img, ...).
It is possible to install this backup to my phone, which presently does not go past hboot menu?

I must assume that you made this backup using ClockworkMod recovery so you can only install these backup files if you can get into ClockworkMod recovery from the hboot menu when you select RECOVERY.

Hey, hows your IS going? you've tried flashing an original RUU using goldcard?
Vibrate 7 times and no boot
Hello,
I've got the "vibrate 7 times and no boot" issue on my Incredible s. Last time I was playing the "Plants VS Zombies", then the phone froze and my phone is not very hot actually. I took off my battery and reboot it, but it froze again on the HTC screen, then I took off the battery again, and then... never boot but only vibrating 7 times.
I've also read many about this issue, But more seriously than the other ones, I cant even go to the recovery(vol minus + power) mode.
The phone is S-ON and I've updated it to 2.3 with HTC OTA.
Would anyone help about this? or should I just send it to repair? that's cost much...
My IS is still "sick" - never beyond hboot menu. The radio flash was a really bad thing, and even the gb flash. A good lesson for anyone - think well before any update!
I played a lot with my IS during these days.
I tryed to install RUU_xxx.exe. The only one which went to the end was a sasktel one. As a result the phone lost S-OFF, which may be a good thig as now eventually the warranty may not considered as void.
I have tried a lot of combinations with PG32IMG.zip. I pou int oit even the files made with clockworkmod. No result so far.
At this point I have lost any hope to fix it. I plan to send it to service.

As I know about goldcard technique, I cannot create a goldcard without the phone running properly.
I have been trying to upgrade my htc magic 32a from 1.5 ever since I got it 10 months ago...but no success. One of the reasons I learned in my inquiry is that it is not possible to upgrade a "perfected spl" which is what I have. However, I have found several bloggers who claimed to have done so using ROM Manager, flashrec.apk, ADB, etc. But when I try any of the suggested methods, I eventually reach a failure message (can't be installed on this phone, force stop, etc) of some kind.
So here are my questions:
Was the blogger correct about the "perfected spl"? If I knew that for certain, then I would dismiss the claims of success as bogus, give up the ghost on this phone, and start looking for an upgradeable replacement!
If the answer to the above is no...meaning there is a procedure for upgrading my phone, then I would be forever indebted if someone can point out the way!
Desperate in Buenos Aires,
Laurie
if you use flashrec.apk, you have to enable the option to install application out of market.
Perfected SPL issue
Although I appreciate your input, if you'll read my post, you'll see that I have tried flashrec.apk and I did it correctly allowing non-market applications.
"...ROM Manager, flashrec.apk, ADB, etc. But when I try any of the suggested methods, I eventually reach a failure message (can't be installed on this phone, force stop, etc) of some kind.
My question which I will repeat more clearly is this:
Is it possible to upgrade an HTC Magic 32A with a PERFECTED SPL...and if so, how do I do it?
Laurie
I can tell you I HAVE read posts of people upgrading these phones. even changing the radio and spl on almost bricked ones.
My question to help you from here is :
Do you have a mytouch 1.2 (fender)
If so it says 32A but it is really a 32B board.
I have the fender and I used clockwork recovery, superwipe, and then ezTerry radio and spl update zips.
I suppose I should ask: upgrade 1.5 what?
If you just mean android 1.5
I used clockwork recovery and then put cyanogen 5 on. Easily
I have since put cm6 on and even cm7
All in all. Keep reading I read for days and days, but... Putting a rom on already rooted phone was easy. And very possible
Sent from my Dream/Sapphire using XDA App
Yes: I would like to upgrade from Android 1.5 to whatever!
No: I don't even know what a mytouch 1.2 fender is! When I boot up, the Airtel logo appears followed by "HTC Magic." There's a T-Mobile logo printed on the case above the screen and "With Google" on the back. Here's what it says I have in about phone:
Sapphire PVT (32A) Ship S-On H
Hboot-1.76.0009 (SAPP10000)
CPLD-12 (Dec 8, 2009)
Radio: 6.35.08.29
Type: EB11/32A
I cannot or do not know how to use clockwork recovery. In fact, I am not able to boot into recovery...only HBoot which has no options other than to reset or power down.
I have tried to download and install ROM Manager from Market but get an error saying that there is no such apk. When I try to install from the SD card, I am told that the apk is not for this phone. I have also tried to install it from AppBrain Market but repeatedly get an internet error "Please check your connection and try again." My connection is fine and I'm able to download and install a variety of apks...but none that help me change the rom. I am rooted by the way.
Any ideas?
Laurie
Fender means that it has an audio jack.
Have you read the Cyanogenmod wiki quide? First you need to have root access and an unlocked bootloader (hboot). Only after that you can start installing custom ROMs
Looks like you have the same phone as I do, so you should use this guide: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Magic_%2832A%29:_Rooting_%286.35.x_radio%29
It's old but works. After that you can go forward on installing a ROM you like. Also you always have to remember to have correct radio/SPL versions (you'll learn about them with the guide) before installing software. Otherwise it won't boot.
This is what my phone looks like ATM:

Your phone is pure 32A Magic, not fender or mt4g v1.2
Well then, I don't have an audio jack so my HTC Magic is not a Fender. And I have read...but not followed the Cyanogen Wiki because it specified the "HTC Magic (32A) with 3.22.x radio" while my radio is 6.35.08.29.
I did install ADB on my computer and I created a Gold Card both as per the Wiki instructions. However, I gave up on that method after repeatedly getting a "device not recognized" error.
I do have root access but not a clue as to whether hboot is locked or not. How would I determine that?
Sorry I'm being such a dimwit but I am soooooo frustrated with this phone. Maybe I should either just leave well enough (Android 1.5) alone...or find someone who has a clue to replace the guts of the device with a more adaptable OS.
Thanks for trying,
Laurie
No recovery & fastboot fails to install
I just attempted to follow the instructions from http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Howto:_Install_the_Android_SDK once again to install the SDK and fastboot on Windows 7 but the installation of fastboot failed. See screenshot attached.
In addition, I seem to have no recovery at all on the device. Booting from Home/Power brings up the Airtel screen where it remains until I remove the battery. Booting from Vol-Down/Power produces Fastboot which offers 4 options as follows:
<Vol Down> HBoot Mode
<Send> Reset Device
<Action> Restart to HBoot
<Menu> Power Down
Choosing <Vol Down> gives me:
<Back> Fastboot Mode
<Send> Simlock
Both <Send> and <Action> restart the device and of course, <Menu> turns it off.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I suspect that I cannot proceed with changing the radio or the spl without Fastboot on my computer...and I should not try to proceed without Recovery on the device. So what do I do?
You need to run the installer as admin, and it's safest to run everything as admin since it's the easiest way
The recovery you have is the stock recovery so it won't show anything useful.
I followed this guide: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Magic_(32A):_Rooting_(6.35.x_radio) and it worked perfectly!
I did run the SDK installer as Admin and after a bit of manipulating managed to get fastboot where it is supposed to be. Then I attempted to follow the guide you suggested. However, when I try to "push adb"...I get a "permission denied" message and can go no farther.
So does having the "stock recovery" mean that I cannot enter recovery mode? Hanging up on the Airtel screen is to be expected? Then I truly don't understand. How do I back up my current ROM? And if things go wrong...which they can't because I cannot adb push anything to my SD card...then how do I recover?
I honestly appreciate your help...but I seem to have the device from hell and every time I hear how "easy" it is to do what I have not been able to do in a year, I want to tear my hair out!!!!

Please try to follow the 6.35 instructions
Did you use a goldcard? Check the wiki for that too
You can probably try temproot and then backup with that - but SMS and some other stuff can probaby be backed up in some other ways. If you can't push anything to the sdcard, have you enabled USB debugging from the settings? You can also try to enable USB storage from the usb menu that appears when you connect your phone to your computer and put the files there that way. I can't really remember how I did it since it was such a long time ago :/
Don't worry, it's hard but not impossible!
Yes...I have tried to follow those instruction as well as versions thereof listed below.
And yes...I have created a Gold Card as well as installed SDK, Eclipse, etc...but all to no avail.
When I read "Hey look. I just upgraded my HTC Magic (with the same credentials by the way) to Froyo...in only 10 minutes!" I must come to the conclusion that I am the problem in the sense that there is something that I am not getting. Consequently, my question is this:
Does anyone know of a technical service where I can send my device to have it upgraded professionally?
If it is in the general vicinity of Denver (CO)...that would be cool but at this point I'm willing to mail it. PLEASE HELP! The phone works just fine...but it is sooooooooo limited by Cupcake!

Try Spanish posts
Hmmm.... the science of the magic is a little hard to some few...
Have you tried Spanish tutorials?
There's also an Spanish page (h ttp:/ /htcmania .com) that can help you, because the Magic was first released in Spain
(if you are going for the spanish forums be careful! those use 32b motherboards)
BTW, if you want to upgrade, remember something, you must download 1= the recovery and 2= roms
To install them, you need to use a terminal emulator and all that.... (the forums w/download links also have an installation guide)
I wish you look n.n
and if you need help on how to install or root something... contact me (Y)
Yes...I need help!
Hola Cesar,
Thanks for your suggestions. Since I have the 32A motherboard, I don't want to risk bricking my phone by doing anything meant for the 32B. But I can surely use your help with the following which by the way, I have already tried:
Finding and installing the correct Recovery & ROM. I have been referred to a variety of each but haven't been successful at installing any as you can see from my list...even when following the respective installation guides.
Currently, I'm running a rooted phone with a perfected SPL with no recovery. No problems so far but I would love to upgrade to Froyo if that is possible. Another by the way: I just spoke to an Android specialist at Cricket who said he could do it...but didn't understand why I would want to since I'm not having problems with the phone - if it ain't broke, why fix it?
Laurie
Try to root by SuperOneClick. Even shell root will help in future
If not, i will write more hard manual
I am rooted
Thanks for the suggestion Strogino but I already have root. My problem is not being able to upgrade from Android 1.5.

Laurie, The magic of the Magic is a pain!
Let's do this:
Turn of your phone and turn it on by presing back + power
That's the bootloader screen, then tell me what says there
second: Download any root app (like root explorer) and tell me if you can acces the root of your sd (something like / or try to go to /system/data and see if you can COPY an app to the SD). BTW, how did you rooted your phone?
for now, you must decide wich ROM you will use, tell me that and give me the link of the rom (if you want a reco' look for Ginger Yoshi)
That's all for now, do your homework an tell me that ^
Glad to help you!

I have Root Explorer installed and am able to access the SD Card although there's no /system/data folder. I went to system/app instead but can't figure out how to COPY any of the apps listed to the SD Card.
As for the ROM, I don't have a clue which will work on my device. I do have Ginger Yoshi on my PC. What's next?
Hi, I have a rooted HTC One running the Google Play Edition ROM (first rooted device) but I stupidly hit the 4.3 OTA update when I got the notification. Apparently this is a big no-no, but I didn't know any better and now my phone can't get past HTC's splash screen. I can still enter bootloader and recovery (CWM 6.0.3.2) but that's about it.
I don't have a ROM on the internal memory, so can't just revert to the previous 4.2.2 and because I can't enter the phone's settings to turn on USB Debugging. The phone does not show up in Windows Explorer, nor in 'adb devices' when I do the usual thing on Command Prompt. The phone shows up in Device Manager under Android USB Devices as 'My HTC' but again, no device will appear in Command Prompt, otherwise I'd adb push a new ROM onto the phone.
I've tried clearing cache, dalvik and so on with zero luck. It's causing me all sorts of grief and I've been pulling out my hair since yesterday. I've heard that an OTG micro-USB cable might help by loading a ROM onto a flash card, but I'm looking at a few days delivery (at least) and would like to get this problem sorted ASAP. If you can help, I'll name my firstborn after you.

I think an RUU for your carrier will do the trick. There are a lot of RUU's posted in the HTC One forums in the various sections, search and find the one for your phone/carrier. Pretty sure that will do the trick!

Hi, I've read up on this option but apparently it unroots my phone and basically returns it to factory settings. This will be my last choice. Thankfully all my photos from a recent trip have been backed up to Dropbox/Drive, but I'd need to root again and jump through all the hoops. I simply want a way to get a new ROM onto the phone to flash it, but neither of my computers are recognising the phone in recovery, with USB debugging off.

Dude, have you a phone that won't get past the splash screen, and you're worried about losing data? If you could get a computer to see the phone, you could push a rom to it in ADB and then sideload it in recovery. If you can't, I think you're left with an RUU I'm afraid.

You can just root/unlock/s-off it after, you've come this far already so you should be familiar with the short process
Flash a ROM using an OTG cable if you have one.

Cheers for the info guys. I think I'll wait till Monday to buy an OTG cable, fingers crossed this will work. In hindsight, I should have kept some ROM on the phone memory or left debugging on. At least now I'll know not to do an OTA update on a rooted phone.
Thanks in advance for helping, i've spent hours searching and did not find anything.
Ill try listing exactly what happened to avoid many questions.
I had my HTC one with an unlocked bootloader and s-off (using revone) with the latest 2.24 firmware. Due to a hardware issue i had to put the phone back to stock and return it.
I used an RUU (RUU_M7_UL_JB_50_HTC_Europe_1.28.401.7_Radio_4A.13.3231.27_10.31.1131.05_release_310878_signed.exe) for this. I used revone to make it S-on again. But i couldn't manage to get it locked again to i returned it unlocked.
After the hardware issue was repaired, i tried to update the phone to latest firmware via adb, it said successful and my bootloader showed it as updated, but when i switched on the phone a black screen with HTC logo in the center and 4 triangles in the corners of the screen showed up.
It wouldn't switch on. After countless tries it finally switched on and in my bootloader it showed the latest firmware and hboot but in my "about" it showed the old firmware. My wifi wouldn't turn on, and my speakers had a cracking sound when used, the phone was hanging alot and i couldnt use it to transfer anything onto the phone. I even tried saving a file via dropbox and it wouldn't save.(i cant transfer a ROM to SD card)
The phone can still be used via adb though.
Is there anything i can do?
SOLVED
I flashed TWRP using all in one toolkit, and ADB sideloaded android rev HD, flashed it and walla everything was good as new
Install a newer ROM.

i just got an email from technocare (the local HTC dealer). They said the mainboard is damaged and need 900dhs (about $225) to repair it.
i immideately rejected. do you guys think it could be a hardware problem? seeing that it happened after a bad RUU flash im guessing it should be software. thanks for the thread will give it a read once i get the phone tomorrow!
You could get one of those USB OTG devices that lets you plug a flash drive into the phone and access it.
I'm thinking about doing the same just to have it on hand because the lack of removable SD card scares me.
I've been in that spot before where the only way I could get my phone to function was by using my PC to put some files on the SD card to use from recovery. Your recovery might also support sideloading which I've never done but I guess it lets you push a ROM straight from the PC into the recovery. I use philz touch and i believe it does both USB OTG and sideloading although i've verified neither.
Recently I flashed something naughty that messed with my boot.img and it broke my wi-fi (wouldn't turn on). I fixed it by doing a selective restore and restoring only /boot from my nandroid backup.

thanks for your reply,
I have a nandroid backup .zip but i don't know how to put it on to my phone because i can't transfer anything to it.
My h-boot is 1.54 so i can't run any RUU's. I can't root because i can't transfer superuser to my SD card so i can't gain S-off.
I don't know what else to try, spent loads of hours over this.
Any other way i can root without needing SD card or an RUU for hboot 1.54?
I can't get those USB otg devices cause they aren't available in my country.
Hi Everyone
I humbly approach you today with a HTC One issue, that needs solving as I have no phone as a result.
So to put it simply I Unlocked and Rooted my device through this guide .
/watch?v=kJYAS2KN17Y
Following that I proceeded to gain S-OFF, or at least I believe I did. Checked the Bootloader after and it said S-ON :S Through this guide.
/watch?v=NeFwsqU4YL4
All seemed well up to this point, so then I followed to this guide to install 4.4 KitKat on my HTC One (I am based in the UK, and the network my phone runs in is O2).
/watch?v=AySbx90YB-s
However as it turns out, my phone will now turn on, I will reach the default Android Language Selection menu, and my phone reboots automatically before I can even press anything. I have tried to re-install the "bigxie_Reset_M7_3.62.401.1.zip" several times, and nothing has come from it.
So I attempted to restore my stock HTC rom, using the "RUU_M7_UL_JB_50_HTC_Europe_1.28.401.7_Radio_A4.13.3231.27_10.31.11131.05_release_310878_signed.exe" and it fails every time, and it also detects no image when I run it, it simply shows what image it will install.
Additionally I tried all possible USB ports on my computer to check for a faulty USB port with RUU, I have tried to push "Guru_Reset_M7_3.62.401.1.zip" through CMD (I am running windows of course) and naturally it hasn't worked (the push). Having not made a Backup because I blindly followed the tutorials, I have nothing to go back to.
I think the problem is that S-ON is enabled and I can't seem to find how to solve it, or enable S-OFF using the AIO Toolkit and pushing Revone. Anything that could help me get my phone working, and hopefully with stock Android will be greatly valued. Thank you for taking the time to read this .

I am not so good at android but.......a way to S-OFF HTC One would be using this video - /watch?v=MCMJkVbIiIg
It basically uses rumrunner to do so and for me it worked flawlessly
Hope you can fix your One soon.

Thank you for replying guys!
I actually managed to fix it by pushing TWRP instead of CWR and then installed Android_Revolution_HD-One_31.6.zip got my OS back and now trying to enable S-OFF.
:good:

Gratioz!!!!! Good luck for getting S-OFF.
I used rummrunner to get S-off. Works like a charm. Takes a bit of time to do it though, don't close it whilst it's doing it's thing!
